[X] Go to Bowser's Castle and wait for the Koopa Troop to catch up.

Following the Troop directly would be likely to give offense; going to Bowser's Castle, as far as has been indicated, won't, particularly because Bowser & Co. haven't told Aya and Hatate that they're going there. It would be slightly embarrassing, and the magikoopas would be more suspicious of H&A, but not a problem.
Well, Bowser and Toadstool does it all the time to Mario anyways...

To Bowser's Castle
Go to Bowser's Castle and wait for the Koopa Troop to catch up.

"But seriously, do you think there's a chance they're going somewhere other than Bowser's Castle to try and take it back?" Hatate frowns at you and looks toward the path the Koopa Troop made.

"... Not really. I mean, sure, there could be some other mission they're on, but I don't think that's the case. At least, if he really has been kicked out of his castle. That'd be like Remilia being thrown out of the mansion; in theory she might have something else to do, but if she went off somewhere to do something it would be a given that it would involve getting the mansion back." You nod.

"Good, glad you agree. So we're going to go to Bowser's Castle and see what it's like." Hatate sighs and nods, and the two of you rise into the air rapidly. You can't track Bowser's group, but that's quite alright, because you're not following him, you're just going to where he will be. Completely different thing.

You fly north, over the small mountain range that contains the Molevilles, skirting along the coast of the inland sea, and passing the Mushroom Kingdom. The Koopa Kingdom is, as Bowser pointed out, incredibly distinct from the Mushroom Kingdom. Instead of rolling green hills, farmland, forests, and grasslands, all you can see when you look at Bowser's domain is mountains of red rock. You land on the Mushroom Kingdom side of a vast chasm, near the broken foundation of a bridge that had stretched to the great doors of the enormous castle. You shake your head at the extravagance of the marvel: the rusty outcropping that supports the castle has been carved in imitation of Bowser's own head, giving the impression that the Koopa himself is rising from the mountains to assail the viewer. The castle itself is mostly fairly unimpressive apart from its great size, and is built of grey stone or brick.

What is impressive is the great sword that has been planted through the castle, its hilt slightly taller than the highest tower. A new addition, probably – perhaps from Smithy? To symbolize the defeat of Bowser, or as some kind of challenge? Or maybe he just likes that kind of décor …. You take pictures of it, mostly from the edge of the bridge, but a few you fly over the chasm to take from more sideways-facing angles, and a couple you take from above, showing the great sword impaling the castle. Perfect article material, especially since you don't need to see inside to give a solid overview of the area. It is Bowser's Castle, and the first thing you see when you enter the Koopa Kingdom; you need to try to look elsewhere to see anything else, and the castle is so close and so large that that is difficult to do.

"Now … now comes the hard part," you say, and Hatate looks up from her notebook. You smile. "Now we have to wait for the Koopa Troop to get here, and that could be a few days. Let's hope the new residents get bored easily."

***

The next two days pass incredibly slowly. Whoever is in the castle doesn't seem interested in poking their heads out terribly far. There are some small movements – turtle-like creatures, some winged and some afoot, singly and in small groups, occasionally slip away from the castle, furtively trying to keep from being spotted. It's hard to tell if anyone in the castle cares, though.

A brief bit of excitement occurs early on the third day, however, when a great flying ship approaches the castle. It floats over the castle, its axe-like prow almost scraping the great sword, and two smaller axe-blades fall into the castle, attached by chains to the ship – anchors, maybe? The ship sways in the wind for nearly an hour, then raises its anchors and descends behind the castle. Hmm … Bowser's ship, taken over by Smithy's forces, or one of their ships to begin with? If the latter, how many ships like that do they have? But you can hardly just walk in and start trying to interview people … well, you probably could, although you're not sure whether anyone could stop you. They may have been able to drive Bowser off through sheer power, or numbers, or simply an unexpected method of combat, and two of those methods might even work against you. But for now, you and Hatate stay put, keeping an eye on things and taking notes on what you see.

"There they are," Hatate whispers as noon approaches, and gestures down the slopes. Hauling themselves out of a hole in the ground is Bowser's Koopa Troop, with the formidable king himself near the front of the line. You frown, then look at the castle and back down at Bowser's troop. They're going to be slaughtered. It doesn't matter if that ship takes part, the only way they're going to win is if Bowser is personally powerful enough to retake his castle – and if that were the case, what would he need his Troop for?

"Should we help them?" Hatate blinks at you, surprised, and you drum your fingers against your notebook.

"What could we do?" You grimace; a good question. You could lift them to the top of the castle with the wind, or try to disrupt enemy formations, but anything else would require revealing your strength in obvious ways, most notably by entering the castle and fighting. Kind of a loss condition, really. You could also just ensure that Bowser survives, if it looks like he'll die. It would be obvious that something is going on, but wouldn't necessarily out you and Hatate. Or ….

What do you do?

[ ] Try to covertly support Bowser's attack.
- [ ] Disrupt any enemies that come out to meet them.
- [ ] Lift Bowser's force to the top of his castle.

[ ] Directly aid Bowser's attack:
- [ ] Enter the castle ahead of him and start clearing things out.
- [ ] Enter after him and try to support him.

[ ] Go down and talk to Bowser, ask how you can help.

[ ] Just watch and record what happens.

[ ] Other?

[x] Just watch and record what happens.

As much as I personally like Bowser, I don't really think we have a reason to help him other than that we had an interview with him?

Attack on Bowser's Castle
Just watch and record what happens.

You look down at the assembling Koopa Troop for a long moment, then nod. Anything you could do would either reveal more of your true strength or accomplish nothing, so it's best for now to just keep an eye on things. "You're right. I guess I'm just restless." You see Hatate's look as she nods, but keep your focus on Bowser's force as you crouch near the edge of the hill, your hands already filled with pen and notebook to record the fight. You would fly, but there's no sense making yourself more noticeable, since anyone higher than you is already going to be able to see you easily if they look over the chasm. As the Koopa Troop finishes forming up – Bowser front and center, the goomba squadrons flanking him, and the magikoopas in the back – Hatate crouches next to you, eyes focused not on the attackers, but on the castle, watching for responses. Bowser snaps his fingers, and the magicians' wands flash before the air above the formation shimmers. Then they begin marching up the hill. Hatate hisses and nudges your arm, and you glance up to see the front door opening – but nothing comes out. Bowser roars and charges ahead of his troops.

Smithy's forces emerge from above the entrance, as a horde of red- and green-cloaked creatures leap down from the tower battlements, and you frown when you focus on them: they appear to be riding swords, and you wince and shake your head as some of the worst-aimed jumpers bounce on the ruins of the bridge. That can't be good for the blades. Others land around Bowser, with one particularly unlucky fellow landing on the Koopa King's shell and deflecting into the chasm, while others land closer to the rest of the Koopa Troop, even landing on the shimmering air, which resolves itself into blocks at the points of impact. The goombas hesitate, but as Bowser roars furiously they swarm forward and up, onto the sword-bouncing creatures stuck on the blocks. The magikoopas scurry forward to the middle of the shielding blocks, then start flinging blasts of magic at the visible enemies – red triangles, blue circles, and green squares that swirl around each other. The sword-bouncers explode into coins, or transform into pastel yellow blocks when struck, but the magic has no effect on the rocky ground or the castle itself; perhaps they're keyed to react only to the living? The goombas are somewhat less effective, needing to close to melee range and not having the numbers to really swarm their enemies, but they do display a quite impressive talent for jumping, somersaulting on the ground and leaping as they straighten, which allows them to knock the sword-bouncers off their mounts.

The star of the show, of course, is Bowser, laying about him in grand style, slashing and ripping with his claws, using his sheer bulk as another weapon, and occasionally sending a gout of flame streaming forward to char his attackers. And against these sword-bouncers, he is unrivaled: his shell makes him nearly impervious to their attacks, and he is easily able to deal with them. Even the group of bouncers you had thought had bad aim, who turn and fling small flaming orbs at him instead of engaging in melee, are all but useless, the flames harmlessly splashing off his shell. He isn't berserking, however, and when his troops – mostly the goombas – start to cry out fearfully, he snaps his claws, and with a golden flash a giant phantom-like entity appears above him. It wails frightfully, then covers its eyes and fades away. As worthless as it seems, however, the bouncers react immediately, shying away from the Koopa King – even leaping into the chasm themselves! – and falling to the ground. Rather than press forward, however, Bowser turns and rolls downhill, curling up tightly and becoming nearly spherical, and smashes into the remaining bouncers near the Koopa Troop.

While he's busy clearing up there and reorganizing his diminished forces, however, Smithy's troops regroup. Those bouncers who can flee back into the castle and are replaced by a horde of hammer tsukumogami – and Hatate pulls your sleeve and points up, because the great ship you saw earlier is coming around behind the castle. Before it comes into view of those on the ground, however, the tsukumogami charge downhill. Blasts of magic and bursts of flame fail to sufficiently disrupt the living weapons' assault, and the great ship slices forward … and something crosses in front of you, a pale cone that further savages the red rocky cliffs, the bridge, and scours the front of the castle. You leap back, hauling Hatate with you, as the beam follows the warship's movement and explosively impacts the bridge and cliffs on your side of the chasm. Chains of explosions ripple across both sides of the chasm, and when the red dust settles and you can look at the other side, nothing remains of either the Koopa Troop or Smithy's defending soldiers. You turn your attention back to the ship, and you scowl as it turns to sail across the front of the castle. Coming to sweep for survivors … or did they just happen to see you? In either case, do you really want to be found? If the forces on that ship are anything like the tsukumogami and the bouncers, you'll be fine if it comes to a fight, but if it comes to that … won't you have been better off helping Bowser to begin with? The ship descends slightly as it cuts through the air.

What do you do?

[ ] Flee immediately.
- Where to?

[ ] Attempt to speak to whoever is on the ship.

[ ] Attempt to crash the ship.

[ ] Since it's open, break into Bowser's Castle and look for Kamek.

[ ] Other?
