I like the much healthier interactions he has with the kids.
Yamato is a traumatized war orphan who has empathy to those around him and is going to therapy to work out his issues.
His three students are on very levels of broken, from issues that were not their fault or that they were born into... And he wants to make them better people who are strong enough to not be broken like he was, and others were.
Looking at you Kakashi.
And guess what, it's working. A lot. Because having someone who can help them through their fucked up issues is honestly something they need right now.
I like the fact that he's teaching all three of them, and not just the one with the Special Pink Eye. I liked the OG Naruto but one of my biggest complaints is that Naruto doesn't really learn any new techniques. Nor do they lean into the fact that just from what we see on screen he's an absolutely terrifying stealth specialist. I just would have liked it if they lent more into the actual Ninja theme over the Super Powers. Maybe even lean more into the politics of the area.
Well it wouldn't be a good Jounin Quest if we weren't teaching the kids properly now, would it.
After all, we aren't Kakashi, we aren't blinded by our grief and our trauma.
We're getting through that trauma and becoming a better person.
Stealth is the way to go when you have a guy who can sink into wood, a genin who pranks root and can play distraction with Shadow clones, an Illusion specialist with reality warping. Hmm. I forgot someone? Impossible. The idea that there is some third member who lacks broken ass abilities that favor sneaking is ridiculous. Your crazy.
All I will say is this:
Sasuke is really good at Poker, even without his special eyes.
It's just Naruto is much lukier, so if you want to make huge stacks of cash on Konoha's dime... you have the team for it.
Basically it might be actual canon. Think about the timing. Perfect to be refugees from the destruction of uzugakure. Other than garra and his father who do you see in sand with that shade of red hair? The fact that he was the first person to try dealing this thing since the original bearer and managed to get some solid passive sand manipulation and apparently trap a bit of his wife's soul in there too.
... I'm not bowing to the whims... but I am going to be very... interested.
