You should have come sooner, but you were finally able to since Sasuke was the most immediate problem in terms of dealing with issues. You blamed Danzo for the terrible reputation that the Konoha Therapy service had.
Though then again, half the damn staff you truly thought were in ROOT, and they were trying their best to manipulate vulnerable Genin and Chunnin into their ranks, as a way to increase and bolster their ranks.
You had heard rumors that Danzo stopped kidnaping orphans into the ranks of ROOT… you were one of the last that fell into that category because since taking control of the Mental health sector, he seemed to have full damn control over who passed the minimum sanity requirement. And with many of the highest paying missions being set out by the Hokage, and they were outside the village… That meant that those ninjas who needed the income were stuck on menial duties that not only didn't pay well enough to support their families…
Well, it put a great deal of power into Danzo's hands… and he pushed them into ROOT.
Or at the very least supporting the operations of ROOT.
So many shinobi who quietly supported that bastard just because he had control over who could leave the village for missions.
But Naruto… was not someone you worried about too much. He was not as rambunctious or troublemaking as he was when he was in the academy, that much was certain because the great number of Pranks that could be traced back to Naruto had gone down significantly since he became a ninja under your tutelage.
But that didn't mean you didn't notice the stares he got or didn't hear the whispers that some of the shinobi and civilians that talked when they thought you were not listening.
All said something that was negative, to his status as a jinchuuriki. You knew he knew, Iruka's mission report was quite clear about what Mizuki said, and how the boy was clearly upset about it.
You wondered how it really affected him. He claimed that he was fine. You knew all about those types of claims. And how many of them were lies.
So you were at the front door of his apartment, looking at the fake seal, feeling it to see if Naruto changed it out for a real one. But alas he did not.
Honestly, you think the boy should do it. At least to prevent his apartment from being broken in.
The knock echoed through the apartment, and you looked around, before taking a deep breath, and pulling out the only peace offering you had, Ramen.
The Door opened and Naruto was in pajamas, looking like he was preparing to go to bed. "Huh, Sensei, what are you doing here?"
You took a breath. "May I come in, I wanted to talk to you. About something important."
Naruto wordlessly opened the door and you entered it. He had cleaned up a little since you last saw it.
You smiled at that, it was a sign of growth, you think. Or maybe he just believes you would be checking up on him. You entered his kitchen, and he sat at the table, defensively protecting himself from any news by guarding his emotions. He must think something is wrong.
"Naruto… what do you know about the Kyuubi?" You asked. That made Naruto raise an eyebrow, he might not have known the fox by that name. "Um, The Nine Tails."
That made Naruto give a small sigh. "I know I have a seal that keeps it inside, and that's why everyone hates me." He looked defeated at that.
That made you shake your head. "They don't hate you Naruto, they hate the fox that once destroyed the village…" You paused, thinking of the next words to say but Naruto shouted.
"Yet why did they hate me!? WHY DID EVERYONE HATE ME INSTEAD OF THE FOX!" He asked, tears beginning to fall from his face as he looked at you. "Sensei, all my life everyone in the village hated me, despised me, and called me names that I didn't understand. I could never get close to anyone else, and I never understood until a few weeks ago!" He curled up into a ball and just sat in the chair. "I thought they hated me… so I decided that I didn't care what they think, I decided to turn that attention they gave me into something that would make me feel better."
You leaned forward and then said. "May I." The words seemed empty, but you placed an arm around him. The boy seemed to accept it as if it was a comfort he didn't want to push away.
"Let me tell you a story of a boy who thought he was a monster, who was asked to do terrible things, and thought he didn't have a choice… and then someone showed him that he did."
You regaled him the story of yourself, hiding those small details to see if he was paying attention. You told him about your time in ROOT, where you were… broken. A tool for a man that did not see you as a person. To be expendable.
Then your friend Kakashi… Dog, saved you, by helping you back from the brink. Bringing you back into the light and helping you become human… helping you in ways you didn't understand till you grew older.
Kinda like Guy did for Kakashi. The two men… did not love each other in the way that others did. But they did care about each other. And saved each other in ways both never realized.
You think it was Guy's influence that helped Kakashi save you that day. The flame of youth showed in a way even Kakashi didn't know about.
When you ended, the boy hugged you. "The one thing I want you to take away from this Naruto… is that you don't need to be defined by the things others think of you. Others may hate you, maybe even fear you for the rest of your life. But never lose that kindness that you have within you… and your ability to smile at the world even when it wants to destroy you."
And you remembered a masked man who offered to help you those many years ago. You only hoped that you could do the same for this boy. "You can be the brightest light that will aspire to be. You are Naruto Uzumaki, Genin of Konoha, future Hokage of the Hidden Leaf. And my Student, whom I will guide to help complete his goal."
You never thought the boy would cry tears of joy. But he did.
Someone believed in him. Someone who wanted to help him, just like Iruka.
And that made all the difference.

You and Yakumo were at the Kurama clan's teahouse because you wanted to speak to both of them. "Yakumo, may I speak to Hanzo?" You asked.
"Are you sure? He's still kinda… fussy about talking to people." She replied.
"I am. Because I want to help you as well," you stated. "Will you be able to hear me?"
"Yes." She replied. "I'm… afraid."
"Don't be. I'm here." You replied with a smile.
Yakumo nodded before she grimaced… and her eyes became shadows and Hanzo spoke. "Hello Yamato-Sensei. What is the purpose of this calling, I am-"
"I know that Yakumo is afraid of you. She can barely work with you in training. And that is enough to make me worry." you replied.
"I am not some beast to be controlled. I am alive just as Yakumo is." Hanzo replied. "I did not choose to be born to a weak-willed girl."
"That is not fair, and you know it." You replied. "She is stronger than you. Otherwise, why else would she join the ninja forces, especially when she knows she would have to be… cooperative with you."
"Because it was her dream," Hanzo replied, leaning back. "Because she would have someone else to protect her."
"What if she thought that someone was you? What if she got past her fear… and wished to truly make your partnership work, after all that you did?"
Hanzo seemed to pause as if he didn't realize what had truly happened. Nor did he seem to think about what Yakumo truly wanted. "She hasn't told me? She's always been afraid of me."
"Why don't you ask her what she truly thinks?" You asked. "Because you two will either fail separately or succeed together."
There was silence as Yakumo's eyes closed, and then minutes passed as if Yakumo was in a trance.
But you knew better than to wake her. She was speaking to Hanzo.
And then her eyes opened and she smiled. "I think We both came to an Agreement." They both spoke in Unison.
You smiled. "Good."
Reward: Yakumo has a trait update.
The Beast in Me (We're in this Together): She is part of the Kurama Clan, meaning she has a reality-warping Alter Ego that can bend reality to their will, with training, and trust. []Catching the Demon Cat Tora: The most dangerous D-Rank in the village. That cat is utterly insane
[]Weeding Gardens: You honestly just think people are lazy, considering that the weeds are so easy to pick. Well, time to pick them, and make the gardens beautiful.
[]Gate Duty: The Second Easiest Job in Konoha that may put you in actual Danger. Most of the time the Gate duty is not the same as guard duty at the gate. This means that the kids will be treated to the joys and wonders of Paperwork. Are you cruel? Are you mad? No, but you think that things are going to be alright.
[]Helping the Hokage with Paperwork: Wait, he wouldn't use shadow Clones, but would bring in unsuspecting Genin to the Paperwork piles! Hiruzen you Bastard!
