Tam Lin's Monsterworld

Actually, let me retract my last vote. I want to save the Miracle!Farmbrains for a (haha) less rainy day...

[X] Plan: Home.

Hmm, we seem to have two mutually competing ecosystems on the land now. The Kandles cannot grow where the Squishgrass proliferates, and the Prismlets cannot grow unless their habitats are tended to by Squishgrass. We're basically trying to figure out how to balance two natural forces that are constantly accidentally trying to kill each other. Meanwhile, there's a war going on between sentient species that are purposefully trying to kill each other.

Damedame. How inconvenient... hmm.

[X] Plan Fire & Water
-[X] [Farmbrains] In a fit of (possibly mad) genius, a few Farmbrains attempt to use Contract Magic to form pacts with the Atmosphere itself. In so doing, they gain a very limited power over natural meteorological forces like air pressure, precipitation, and cloud cover.
-[X] [Kandle] Some Kandles are forced to grow in Lava Megator brooding nests. Because of the high concentration of Fire Magic in their new environment, the new Kandles have significantly longer lifespans, decreasing the need for its explosive fruit to explode in order to propagate the species.

...I am honestly not sure if this will make things better or worse.
I don't know how to tell you this, but all of the monsters are fairly sapient. Yes, including the plants

[X] Plan Fire & Water

Someday I am going to introduce chaos magic to this world. Maybe in the form of gray goo hive type. Something like:
omnivorous insect-like creatures that reproduce by fission, able to mutate depending on environmental hazards and type of food, growing more intelligent the more individuals gathered in one flock... Oh, wait I wanted to work only with flora. Well, maybe go for the moss-mushroom path of global threat to existence.

  • [X] Plan: Home.
-[X][Frogmilkder] A Frogmilkders Empress has become so lazy and so old that a layer of dirt has formed on her back. Which allow her crew to cultivate a stable environment through a combination of different plants as she lazily swims in the ocean either being fed her own grand-grand-grand children that have grown up on the plants on her back or the proceeds of raids conducted on colonies of other creatures.
-[X][Kandle] Kandle roots grow holes in them that allow the Smalldrones to safely nest in them protected against the stormy winds and their own periodic explosions. While the Smalldrones clear out any other plants that would halt it's development.

Might have to do the update tomorrow as I'm not feeling well today.

Earth Frilkers cultivate a patch of dirt on their back with earth magic. By combining the earth magic with their natural water magic, this makes the patch of earth on their backs especially fertile.

Their empress form is rendered nearly immobile by the patch of dirt on her back and has to be fed by the queens and drones. The meat fed to her is then converted to milk to feed the queens.

Additionally, plants can grow on their backs, which are then eaten by the drones. The space magic that they normally use to extend their tails for use as a weapon is repurposed to make the patch of dirt on their backs even more spacious.

Although the Earth Frilker empress pictured here is only about the size of a Megator, they can grow up to three times the size of a Megator depending on age.

Kandlehives have roots that form into homes for Wingdrones. By entering into a pact with the Wingdrones, the Wingdrones will destroy plant life that hinders the Kandlehives' growth.

-----

Wingdrones become pests in Farm-species communities, destroying Squishgrass in order to allow Kandlehives to proliferate.

Additionally, a strange phenomenon happens when Kandlehives grow on Earth Frilker backs, where the Kandlehome is able to host a larger than usual tribe of Wingdrones. The Wingdrones feed the Earth Frilker Queen, usually by using their Krowtor minions to form pitfall traps that victimize random Farm-species monsters as well as the occasional Packsmasher.

With several species working against them, the Farm-species crop of Squishgrass are in danger of extinction and will go extinct in 3 turns.

Alright... my tentative plan to improve things in favor of the Farm-species.

-[X] [Sand Goblet] Periods of unstable, heavy rain cause the ground on which some Sand Goblets live to erode, and their roots to sink beneath the water line. They evolve longer, lankier roots which can filter out the muddy brackish water and start to parasitize the Stone Gobseas which proliferate in these areas.

Would it be too much to ask to separate this I to Plants and Animals?

[X] Colder Weather, but I'll See You again.
-[X] Fishdeeps develop blubber to insulate themselves allowing for colder climates and food storage. Allowing a time to hibernate in between feedings.
-[X] The Stone Gobseas sink down into the Deep. Often dieing but lately enough have survived to evolve a type of coral that surrounds the heat vents below. Sharing the heat with each other. Often this heats up their nectar nuts to the point they become gaseous and occasionally break of from the seafloor bound Stine Gobseas to float up to the surface. Only for a new Gobsea to grow and begin the cycle anew. From above the bioluminescent lights look like an active city.

Aggghhhh this tickles my deep sea romanticism so baaaad

It conjures some really pretty images, too! Though I wonder how that new Gobsea would interact with the worrying amounts of nightmare magic floating around down there. Maybe the gentle light is imbued with purification essence? Nightmares into dreams…

…@Tam Lin is approval voting allowed? I know it would be kind of weird to approval vote my own plan with someone else's but…

Approval voting isn't allowed. It messes up the final vote count

Huh, this hasn't saved the smalldrones, that is a shame.

Some Farmbrains have utilized Contract Magic in order to harness natural meteorologicl phenomena. These Stormbrains are able to call down rain with which to irrigate Squishgrass and Prismlet fields.

Branch Sandlets grow onto Stone Gobseas and suck the nutrients out from them. Their branches are brittle and don't make good material on their own, however when mixed with the crushed remains of the eye-like organ in the center of their roots, they turn into a cement-like paste.

The eyeball itself is a font of water energy harvested from the Stone Gobseas and will be periodically ejected from the tree if not harvested.

-----

The Farmbrains once again find themselves ejected from their communities because of the advent of Stormbrains. However this time, sympathetic Heartsnots exit the community with them allowing them to thrive even without the Wytchbrains' magic.

The plain Kandles find themselves unable to complete with Kandlehives who are being grown by the Smalldrones. Because of this symbiosis between Smalldrones and Kandlehives, Smalldrones are no longer in danger of extinction.

Under the sea, it seems that the Decay Aspected proteins of the Sandlet Tricolors have poisoned the DNA of Greater Fin Rokrebs. They will become extinct in 2 turns.

Because of the burgeoning symbiosis of the fire aspected Kandlehives and the Smalldrones, Krownin are in danger of extinction. This also carries to the Windgards who literally burst into flames when in vicinity of the Kandlehives because Wind Magic is ignited by fire magic. Krownin will go extinct in 3 turns and Windgards will go extinct in 3 turns.

For the same reason, Aerokrebs will go extinct in 3 turns

In this phylogenic charts for Turn 50, I can't see the chart for Seedlings. Anyone else having this problem?

The link to the image seems to exist but the image itself is broken or something?
