  • [X] Plan: This is Fine
-[X] [Seaspores] Facing extinction, some Seaspore colonies migrate even further from the surface, towards hydrothermal vents and volcanic caves beneath the ocean floor which provide their only source of heat. They absorb dangerous amounts of Nightmare Magic as they desperately evolve a new form to survive this environment.
-[X] [Aerograss] A coven of Wytchbrains use their alchemical skills to replace some Aerograss's Aero Magic with Hydro Magic, planting the new species of grass near their Prismlet farms to keep the ground moist and prevent devastating wildfires.
    [X] Plan: Cross
-[X] Megators develop an increased strength and a fire breath that enables it to easily assert dominance wherever they can walk on. A downside to this is such an increase to metabolism that it needs to constantly eat to survive.
-[X] Some Seaspore adults grew further to make themselves regenerate faster than the consumers can feed on, but can no longer reproduce.
    [X] Plan Winter Prepwork
-[X] Through much selective breeding the Farmsnots have created a version of Hornmeats that produces more meat, less horns and works for both carnivores and herbivores! The Great omni food!
-[X] Fishdeep develop blubber, retaining greater amounts of heat and keeping out the cold. Allowing them to survive the colder regions and colder depths.

Seaspores migrate to the bottom of the ocean, seeking heat from hydrothermal vents. This infects them with the nightmare magic that sleeps deep within the earth.

When ingested, the nightmare magic in their flesh puts the eater into a deep sleep filled with nightmares. This is highly divisive among the ocean-dwelling species-- Fishjaws avoid them or even destroy them given the opportunity while Necrodeeps migrate to where the Nightmarespores are found and ingest them, believing the nightmares hold some kind of meaning.

On the surface, Wytchbrains figure out a way to prevent the devastating wildfires caused by Kandles.

They infuse the Aerograss with water-attribute brews in order to replace their air aspect with the water aspect.

This results in the Squishgrass losing their juvenile airborne state as well as making them dependent on the Farm-species to propagate.

---

Farmsnots have gone extinct, their function as farmers and Slasher raisers have been replaced by the Heartsnots.

Additionally, the Farmbrains, desperate to not get replaced by the Wytchbrains have started a war with the Wytchbrain-led tribes.

With the Seaspores dying out and replaced by the Nightmarespores, Fishjaws become dependent on the Stone Gobsea farms raised by the Necrodeeps. However, there is a deep schism between Necrodeeps and Fishjaws regarding what to do about the new Nightmarespores.

Greater Fin Rokreb populations continue to dwindle as the Fishjaws and Necrodeeps hunt them for sport. However, as the corpses aren't being eaten, they start to poison the seas. The cold temperature of the seas causes the poisons to collect into crystals which grow on top of the corpses.

Frogmilkder Empresses have started attacking the Farm-species settlements in search of meat so they can produce meat to feed their young. However, they don't have much luck due to the Wytchbrains' powerful magic brews.

[X] Plan Mind Sun
-[X] [Farmbrains] Farmbrains in an effort to remain relevant have developed their brains and mental abilities further at the expense of their physical bodies, reaching a point where they develop telepathy and psionic powers.
-[X] [Kandles] The Farm-Species have developed a species of Kandle with the majority of it's danger removed, absorbing Sun Magic to provide more food for their tribes.

And who are we to say they are wrong? Heh.

I actually really like this strange social strife the Nightmarespores are causing. Which makes sense, in a way---what we eat is, and has always been, a point of conflict between cultural groups, classes and civilizations. I wonder how this will develop in the future.

Oh, that's interesting. And terrifying. Sounds like an ecological disaster in the making, too.

We're, ahahah, we're accidentally causing quite a lot of these recently, aren't we?

Farmwytches can do both, which is why Farmbrains are being kicked out. They don't offer anything unique to the communities
But Farmwytches didn't evolve from Farmbrains so they don't have the brains for administration.
Plus the Farmwytches got more to do than administrate do thru attention is divided between the 2 different niches.
And even if they were smart enough in the Admin direction and weren't divided, I thought the Farm varient were more peaceful and kinder than that?

[X] Plan: Big Big Monsters
-[X] [Greater Fin Rokreb] The greater Rokreb's have been slowly driven to extinction by the Fishjaw and Necrodeep hunters. They have gone from being the predators to the prey. In order to defend from their newfound predators they have developed harder shells and can hide inside the shell in times of great stress
-[X] [Megators] The Megators have started to develop stronger stomach acids and a bigger jaw. They now eat anything that gets in their way, trees, walls, shells, anything, they'll digest it. They still only get food from meat, however.
This isn't a legal vote btw. The second slot has to be a plant

But Farmwytches didn't evolve from Farmbrains so they don't have the brains for administration.
Actually, Farmwytches developed from Farmbrains, making them Farmbrains+ in effect: [Farmbrains] Centuries spent experimenting with agriculture has imbued some Farmbrains with Alchemical Magic. This new Farm-species uses their new abilities to create curious concoctions and refine radiant remedies out of the various plants in Monsterworld.

Farmwytches did evolve from farmbrains because the Farmswoles were already extinct when they evolved

If it bothers you so, you can always try to create a niche for the Farmbrains to keep them relevant. I think it might be interesting to see two civilizations in conflict over this, with Wytchbrains on one side using magic and, I dunno, some sort of Mechbrains on the other side using technology.

Huh. So it is. I thought for sure it said Heartsnots. Sry.
That sounds interesting. But I'm getting sick of all the needless fighting. And given the way the quest has gone I'm positive that's all the voting will be.

Hmm. Well, you can't really eliminate conflict from Monsterworld, I don't think. For one, conflict is interesting, and if everything always went right for everyone, all the time, that would stretch the limits of disbelief.

On the other hand, there's no reason you can't make eliminating sources of tension or conflict your primary goal! I personally take a more neutral stance in regards to this. I like to make things stable again after they've gone too crazy, and then, once stability has set in… I like to introduce a bit of chaos back into the setting. Tit for tat. Like Zen.

I'm trying to temporarily reduce tensions by adding more food option. Which of course in the longer run..

Have tried a few times:
[X] Through much selective breeding the Heartsnots have created a version of Hornmeats that produces more meat, less horns and works for both carnivores and herbivores! The Great omni food!

And the Heartsnots aren't even that good at farming. They are bred and specced for ambassadorial roles!
Ugh.

No but it'd be nice if ecological issues was their main concern for a few turns instead of constant warfare over dwindling supplies that disappear faster to feed the war effort.

Megators develop fire magic as a result of constant exposure from clusters of Kandles. This interacts with their natural earth magic in a weird way-- the places where Megators nest tend to be slowly converted into lava over time.

They also develop denser muscles which makes them stronger in exchange for a faster metabolism. This means they also die faster so their life cycle tends to be: be born, wreak havoc among the herbivores, reproduce and then die shortly after.

They quickly become problems for Heartsnots and Wytchbrains.

A new plant has emerged due to the growing toxicity in the ocean. They feed on the decay crystals that form on corpses and convert them into a protein that ends up being a convenient food for carnivores. However, the plant is very poisonous to herbivores and carries the decay aspect due to their diet.

The existence of the voracious Lava Megators and the Frogmilkder empresses puts pressure on the Wytchbrain led communities, forcing them to overharvest the Prismlets just to maintain their position. Because of this, Prismlets will go extinct in 5 turns.

With the Sandlet Tricolor giving a place for Greater Fin Rokrebs to hide and feed, they are no longer in danger of extinction.

Additionally, Wytchbrains begrudgingly allow the Farmbrains back into their communities as they need all hands on deck in order to combat the growing threat of Lava Megators.

The Wytchbrains discover a curious property of the soil-- because Squishgrass slowly imbues soil around it with the water element, it prevents the Kandles from growing there as well as making the soil more fertile. The Wytchbrains work on trying to make the Prismlets ontain more nutrition from the soil, but the process proves difficult as the plants draw undifferentiated mana from the air as nutrition.

Because Squishgrass becomes so prolific and hinders their growth, Kandles will go extinct in 2 turns

[X] Plan: Tarumath
-[X][Frogmilkder] A rogue Frogmilkder queen evolves scales and stronger legs to be able to live on the surface.
-[X][Kandle] Kandle roots become much more extensive to feed from dead matter in the soil.
Just wanna note that Frogmilkder Queens and empresses can live on both land and water so the first is a little redundant unless you want just a general increase in defensive abilities

The land already has an Apex predator in the form of Megators, maybe I can direct the Frogmilkdars into being a bit turtle Islandish.

I also wanted to provide a home for the Smalldrones as I like their current incarnation.

[X] Plan: Home.
-[X][Frogmilkder] A Frogmilkders Empress has become so lazy and so old that a layer of dirt has formed on her back. Which allow her crew to cultivate a stable environment through a combination of different plants as she lazily swims in the ocean either being fed her own grand-grand-grand children that have grown up on the plants on her back or the proceeds of raids conducted on colonies of other creatures.
-[X][Kandle] Kandle roots grow holes in them that allow the Smalldrones to safely nest in them protected against the stormy winds and their own periodic explosions. While the Smalldrones clear out any other plants that would halt it's development.

Hmm, we seem to have two mutually competing ecosystems on the land now. The Kandles cannot grow where the Squishgrass proliferates, and the Prismlets cannot grow unless their habitats are tended to by Squishgrass. We're basically trying to figure out how to balance two natural forces that are constantly accidentally trying to kill each other. Meanwhile, there's a war going on between sentient species that are purposefully trying to kill each other.

Damedame. How inconvenient... hmm.

[X] Plan Fire & Water
-[X] [Farmbrains] In a fit of (possibly mad) genius, a few Farmbrains attempt to use Contract Magic to form pacts with the Atmosphere itself. In so doing, they gain a very limited power over natural meteorological forces like air pressure, precipitation, and cloud cover.
-[X] [Kandle] Some Kandles are forced to grow in Lava Megator brooding nests. Because of the high concentration of Fire Magic in their new environment, the new Kandles have significantly longer lifespans, decreasing the need for its explosive fruit to explode in order to propagate the species.

...I am honestly not sure if this will make things better or worse.
