SV digs a Hole - A Dwarf Fortress Succession Game

15 slate:

One of our peasants has been found stumbling obliviously and skipping work:

I inmediately draft him into our military. A bit of discipline will do wonders for the lad.

25 Slate:

Some new migrants have arrived. Most are useless, but one of them is a renowned jeweler - perfect to exploit our new found wealth.

There is also this rather suspicious individual:

A cursory inspection in our archives doesn't find anybody going by the name of Kikrost Tetotholtar. When i was interrogating him, however, he let slip he is the father of an Uzol Egdothathel.

Uzol Egdothathel is indeed in the clan register:

His father is Edem Nomalothil, a known murderer and profaner:

Shamefully, i have not enough proof to order him hammered. For now, i put him under arrest pending further investigation:

While reading old intelligence reports, i noticed rumours of a dwarven artifact in a goblin pit nearby:

Naturally, i sent an expedition to recover it.

Noiselessdies is a rather macabre, but undoubtedly valuable relic:

Adorned with star saphire, it's now the most valuable artifact in our fortress possesion.

17 Felsite:

Preliminary work to fill minecarts with magma has been completed. Soon we will have proper magma forges, although i don't envy whoever poor sod gets the task to haul the magmacarts up.

5 Hematite

Our miners found something truly wondrous. An ancient artifact, not of dwarven make, made of an strangely durable metal.

At first, i thought it was Adamant - but our scholar insist is not. Either way, it's a wonder.

Shame none of us can wear it though.

26 Malachite:

5th Galena:

New migrants arrived today. Shamefully, one of them was eviscerated by a pack of feral badgers before we could react.

Apparently, the fort is suffering some kind of curse that makes all wildlife insane - I blame the elves.

11 Galena:

Nobody has a clue about what happened to Erush. My best guess is that he somehow fell into a lava pit in the mines - we may never know.

I order an slab for the lad.

13 Galena:

Our magma carts i finally arriving to the surface. Soon, we will be free on the tyrany of coal.

Maybe the animals will calm if we stop cutting trees.

17 Galena:

The mine spawned a new fiend:

Fortunately, this beast proved to be quite slow. Led managed to outrun it, even while wounded

And our troops didn't had trouble dispatching it:

How can dwarves carry boiling magma? Well, the craftdwarfmanship on our silk mittens is of the highest quality...

Making pushing that magma-safe minecart much more comfortable. :) Although I wouldn't be surprised if someone (desperate) tried using nethercap buckets.

Btw, a chunk of bituminous coal suspended in magma will release smoke for weeks, if not months. Isn't dwarven science fascinating?

20 Galena:
Our glassmaker has created an animal trap. It's quite an artwork:

2 Limestone:

The goblins are back. It seems they haven't learned their lesson yet.

9 Limestone:
ADAMANTINE!
The legends are true, and we are rich.

I don't feel safe enough to start working in the vein, however - i plan to reveal it's full extent first.

The Queen has gracefully recognized my achievements:

22 Limestone:

A new beast has been unearthed in the mines. This one, however, is quite different:

It's clearly an intelligent being, armed and armored with strange and clearly powerful armaments.

Fortunately, it has proven itself completely unable to climb out of the hole where the miners found it:

And when our troops reach the zone, they have no trouble besting the monster:

4 Sanstone:

A forgotten beast has been seen flying in the caverns. Not a concern though - i am quite sure than our mines are properly sealed.

5 Sandstone:

An inmense maddened wolf attacked our main entrance - and was promptly teared appart by our giant dog horde:

22 Sandstone:

The mines weren't properly sealed.

The beast rampage continues. Their next victims are a young miner and a child:

However, these two won't be easy pickings. The miner hits the beast several times with his steel pick:

And the baby is no slouch either:

They manage to cripple the beast!

Despite this valiant stand, the miner falls.

Miraculously, the child manages to escape in time.

And eventually, our soldiers arrive to the scene:

I inmediately order to butcher the monster. Maybe we can get something valuable out of this debacle:

The skull of the beast now decorates the tomb of the fallen miner:

25 Moonstone:

One of our weavers made a mitten:

And our miners have found new treasures:

8 Obsidian:

New monsters in the deeps.

This time, however, they are fighting each other:

The duel is brief, but brutal:

The cockroach is in an awful state, but it managed to survive:

Year 258 - Broken25 - End of Year
13 Obsidian: I have ordered to start draining some of the magma pockets in the mine:

20 Obsidian:

A miner has been missing for a week. What could have possibly happened?

21 Obsidian:

One of our "Tamed" giant jay birds suddenly attacked a child:

These beasts terrify me. I don't know why we allow them in the fort.

1 Granite:

A new year dawns, and i most step down. We have suffered quite some casualties to our miner force - Hopefully my succesor will be able to train replacements. For now, i will dedicate myself fully to lead our hammer squad.

Don't fight Legendary Miners, they're absolutely jacked and pickaxes are excellent weapons; I can't count the number of times I've had a battle pop up and finish before I can even click on it because one of my miners was nearby. 'The pickaxe pierces the brain, killing X' is a common sight.

Holy hell, this thread went on without me. Notifications got borked and I was too busy to check the thread in detail til now. Good work guys. :V

Now to set up threadmarks for all these guys.

As long as they're not 'domesticated' animals will loose training levels after a certain time interval if they had no contact with an animal trainer like Nish, who's job title I put in all caps for a reason. ;)

Another year gone. Since we only have one person left on the rota, what's the protocol with the turns after?

They actually didn't want to participate, so I am currently at a loss on what to do to be honest. I guess we can begin rotating people around? I would play another year myself if my schedule wasn't so incredibly busy these days.

Maybe Kadmus or something would like another run? I'd be happy to play again but not 3 turns after my last go.
