Welcome to Prime High (Part I)

Gally

Got the whole word talking King Kiba

THERE CAME A TIME WHEN THE OLD WORLD DIED!

THE NEW WORLD WAS FORGED WITH FIRE AND BLOOD, FROM THE CORPSE OF WHAT CAME BEFORE!

YOU ARE BUT A LOWLY MORTAL, AND YET YOUR FUTURE SHINES BRIGHT! FOR YOU HAVE BEEN RANKED AMONGST THE WORTHY OF THIS NEW WORLD, AND WILL ONE DAY CONQUER IN THE NAME OF GOD.

But for now, you'll go to high school.

A thousand thousand years ago, the heat death of the universe occurred. A new universe was then created, a universe with only a single world – Prime. Prime is a patchwork world, consisting of kingdoms from hundreds of different times and places. Kingdoms range from the mystical to the sci-fi and everything in between.

Prime is ruled by GOD, the unstoppable and omnipotent. From on high in his crystal tower he reigns, and all on Prime bow to his will. But still, there is strife. To carry out GOD's will, the most talented of the new generation are rounded up and shipped off to Prime High, where they'll learn to master their natural gifts. You are one such student. You are an incoming freshman at Prime High.

Welcome to Prime High (Part I)

You step off the transteleportinator into a small white room with no furniture. Before you can get your bearings, you're blasted by all manner of disinfectants – nanobot cleaners, anti-rad foam, high end cleansing spells – until nothing, not the even the smell, of your old kingdom is left on you. (That includes your clothes. You are now completely nude, which bothers you quite a bit.)

A holographic paperclip complete with googly-eyes appears in front of you, made entirely of blue light. "Hello!" It says in a robotic but clearly sinister voice. "I'm Clippy, the Prime High assistant! I'll be leading you through the registration process. First questions first: Are you a boy, or a girl?"

[] Boy
[] Girl
[] YOU DEFY CLIPPY'S OPPRESSIVE GENDER ROLES

Clippy waggles its eyebrows at you. "That's great!" He says. "I'm pulling up a picture of you now! Is this you?"

[] Insert Picture

"Okee-dokee!" Clippy says. "You were chosen for Prime High because your combat statistics were rated in the top one percent of all 1-15 year olds, which is a lot more impressive than it sounds! How would you classify your combat style?"

[] Genius. The hacker of firewalls. The constructor of robots. The pusher-upper of glasses. THE ULTIMATE NERD, IT IS YOU. Build an exo-skeleton to make up for your noodle arms. Build an AI to make up for your loneliness. Bitch about power levels on Internet forums.
[] Sorcerer. You have seen the mundane AND FOUND IT WANTING. You may know little of the mystic arts currently, but your potential is limitless, as long as it doesn't involve a lot of running. You posses a certain ethereal charm about you.
[] Warrior. Smash shit. Cut shit. ARROW SHIT. Whichever weapon you use, you've mastered it. Nobody can run faster, jump higher, or write on a third grade level better than you.
[] Cyborg. Half machine, half man. ALL FUTURE. You posses enhanced physical statistics. You posses a variety in built in deadly weaponry. You posses record processing speeds. You posses no ability to make friends, because you're half murderous deathbot.
[] Mystic Knight. You possess a sword FORGED IN THE EMBERS OF YOUR SOUL. Though you'll never be a master sorcerer or the perfect warrior, your ability to do both allows for great versatility on the battlefield and in your daily life.
[] Alchemist. Your knowledge of etheric potions and mundane chemistry DEFY THE LAWS OF BOTH GOD AND MAN. Nobody can understand what you do when you weave technology and magic together, and to be entirely honest, they're better off not knowing.

  • Yoshida Reina, 15
    First Year Heavy Mech Genius

    • My name is Yoshida Reina. I was born in Technacia, one of the most powerful, prosperous Kingdoms of Prime. Thanks to the advanced technology commonplace in the kingdom, Technacia is a near utopia, a marvel of modern (and post-modern) engineering. It's not perfect, but it's home.

More specifically, home is the Babbage Palace. I was lucky enough to be born the only child of the King of Technacia. I don't get to see my dad a lot, since he's always busy with ruler-stuff - if it isn't the Lords and Ladies of Technacia, it's the Kings and Queens of Prime's other Kingdoms. Despite all that, I love my dad a lot, and I know he loves me. He was so proud when I got accepted to Prime High, even though it's basically expected from someone of my station.

My mom though...she's kind of a mystery wrapped in a riddle wrapped in an enigma. She's the Queen of Technacia, but she's barely ever at the palace, or even in the kingdom at all! Dad says she's doing important diplomatic work, but I think something fishy's going on. One way or another, I'll figure out what my mom's hiding from me!

But more about me! I'm a genius, and that's not bragging. I was recruited to Prime High for my brains, and I excel at pretty much anything academic. But mostly my focus is on robotics - I love building giant mechs so I can punch shit I don't like in the face! I don't even care if that makes me sound scary. I'm going to be Queen of Technacia one day, so I need to be able to inspire fear and awe.

      • Ueno Yui was my rival back in Technacia, the daughter of a minor lord who served dad. She turned herself into a cyborg several years ago, and I even heard from some servants that she did it to keep up with me(!!!!). I haven't seen her in months though - maybe I should ask her what she's been doing?

In a moment of triumph, Yui revealed to me that she's been working on what she calls her ultimate invention. I don't know what it is, and I'm not sure if I want to...

      • There are four other people in my class besides Yui. I'll be spending the next few years with them, so it couldn't hurt to get to know them a little better.

      • Clippy, the school's assistant artificial intelligence, was kind of a huge dick. Might be worth asking if he's always like that, or if I'm a special case...

      • Prime High is for the top one percent of Prime's upcoming generation. As the future Queen of Technacia, I should probably scout out other royalty, and see what they're all about.

      • My mom is Technacia's Queen, but she always away on "Diplomatic Business". I think her and my dad are keeping me in the dark about something big! Somebody in Prime High's gotta know something...

      • Welcome to Prime High - I arrived at Prime High and met my classmates.

  • Ueno Yui, 15
    First Year Punisher Cyborg

    • Yui's from Technacia (duh). She likes computers and high capacity magazines. She dislikes "spoiled princesses". (Uuuuugh) Her goal is to create the perfect body. (Is that blasphemous? I feel like that's blasphemous.)

Yui's always been smart, almost as smart as me. In fact, we started building robots together when we were kids. Eventually we found different paths - I worked on consolidating what I knew into a single, massive unit, while Yui started focusing on bio-integration of her technology. I actually designed her plasma sword, although she'd never admit it. (Credit where credit's due though, she designed my rail gun.)

Yui's dad is a minor lord of Technacia, a pretty high standing. Yui's dad never really had much patience for her though - always pushing her to do better, better, better. She's like him in a lot of ways, she doesn't let herself or the people around her slack off. She doesn't really have much tact though - in fact, she's really, really mean most of the time. Honestly, I'm not her biggest fan, even though we were friends as little kids. She thinks she's soooooo smart 'cause she's basically replaced her brain with a computer, but I'm gonna show her that she can't count out good old flesh and blood!

    • Computer Brain - Processing speeds are off the charts.
Plasma Sword - My design! Super deadly at close range.
Arm-Integrated Grenade Launcher - She can compress it and contract it into her arm. It cycles through different ammo, but I don't know what kinds....
Cybernetic Eye - Aim assist, for sure. X-ray vision? Other stuff? Wouldn't put it past her.

    • As a Punisher Cyborg, Yui is what's known as the "switch hitter". She is equally deadly at range and up close, and her incredible speed allows her to harry opponents across the battlefield. She can't take the most damage though, so make sure she's not overexposing herself!

Friendship Rating: -6 (Fuck that kid)
      Reputation: Irrelevant Frosh
Grades: It's the beginning of the year!

    • Reina Rivalry: 2
      Binary Thoughts

  • Ban Sakura, 15
    First Year Elemental Sorcerer

    • Sakura was raised in East Kyneth (mostly deserts, I think). She likes music and old movies, and dislikes war. She wants to become an Angel, the direct enforcer GOD's will on Prime.

    • None, at the moment.

    • Sakura's a powerful elemental sorceress. Able to call upon fire, lightning, and all sorts of nasty stuff, she's devastating to large groups of enemies at range. But her limited mobility and health make her an easy target, so keep the enemies off her!

Friendship Rating: 1 (Fine, I guess)
      Reputation: Irrelevant Frosh
Grades: It's the beginning of the year!

    • Broodfester Tongue

  • Minami Michi, 15
    First Year Barrier Alchemist

    • Michi was born in the no-man's land between two powerful Kingdoms, New Albion and Empire C. He likes cooking and coffee. He dislike bullies. His goal is to make enough money to move his mom into a nice house.

    • None, at the moment.

    • Michi's skill in Barrier Alchemy means he can create and shape powerful forcefields. He can use these forcefields to protect allies, hinder enemies, and reshape the battlefield to his whim - but he's another squishy caster. Make sure he stays safe.

Friendship Rating: 1 (Fine, I guess)
      Reputation: Irrelevant Frosh
Grades: It's the beginning of the year!

    • Eldritch Science

  • Lily, 15
    First Year Bareknuckle Warrior

    • Lily's from the mountain Kingdom Chai Tai. He likes birds and skateboarding. He doesn't dislike anything. Lily wants to achieve enlightenment, but I'm kinda fuzzy on what that actually means.

    • None, at the moment.

    • Lily is a bareknuckle warrior, a peerless physical powerhouse. His strength, speed, and durability are all enormous, but he lacks versatility, long range options, or crowd control measures.

Friendship Rating: 1 (Fine, I guess)
      Reputation: Irrelevant Frosh
Grades: It's the beginning of the year!

    • Zen Heart

  • Karakura Kin, 15
    First Year Griffin Mystic Knight

    • Kin was born in Scalia Minor (I feel awful - it was destroyed not long ago!) He likes sports and video games. He dislikes spiders. He's too embarrassed to talk about his goal.

    • None, at the moment.

    • A Griffin Mystic Knight like Kin contributes to the team by making everyone around him better. Allies fight harder, longer, and fiercer as long as he stands beside them. He's talented with a sword and has a few mystical tricks up his sleeve, but anything more than a brief stint on the front lines would be hazardous for his health.

Friendship Rating: 1 (Fine, I guess)
      Reputation: Irrelevant Frosh
Grades: It's the beginning of the year!

    • Lead From the Front

Mechanics

Mechanics will be based on a modified D20 system, with your stats and other factors adding to or subtracting from your rolls. You'll gain stat points on level up, and occasionally perks will add to your total.

Stats
There are 3 Base Stats

Athleticism - Determines your strength, durability, coordination, etc. Affects physical fighting.
Charm - Determines your charisma and people skills. Affects magical fighting.
Intelligence - Determines your knowledge and ability to process information. Affects tech fighting.

Spark of Genius
When you do sciencey stuff (attend robotics class, make a research breakthrough), you'll gain Sparks. These points can be burned in combat, to push your machines past their limits, or during training, to hasten breakthroughs. (For obvious reasons, you get no Sparks for breakthroughs obtained through Sparks.)
Rivalry Score
Under the right circumstances, you can strike up a rivalry with another student. When in direct competition with a rival, you get a bonus to all rolls equal to your score. Rivalry score is independent of Friendship rating.

Friendship Rating
As you meet the new students and faculty at Prime High, you'll begin making friends and enemies. Each NPC you meet will be assigned a friendship score, ranging from -11 (Arch-Nemesis) to 11 (Nakama). Friendship scores are determined by your actions, background, charm, and reputation.

Reputation
The gossip mill at Prime High is unforgiving. Almost all actions you take will influence your Reputation, or how the student body as a whole sees you. A high reputation has its perks, but remember that fame isn't all its cracked up to be.

Full Shounen
As a Shounen Protagonist, you posses the incredible ability to turn a battle around just when all seems lost. Once per year, you have the option to go "Full Shounen" and make a rousing speech that will give you a massive temporary stat boost. This state is triggered by a Shounen Motivator.

[x] Mystic Knight. You possess a sword FORGED IN THE EMBERS OF YOUR SOUL. Though you'll never be a master sorcerer or the perfect warrior, your ability to do both allows for great versatility on the battlefield and in your daily life.

Versatility is good, and I'm not feeling very techy right now.

[X] Girl
[X] Genius

If we're in the top precentile out of the multiverse, and we got there on nothing but our natural, perfectly mundane traits - that's pretty damn impressive.

Plus, this school is probably filled with hot-blooded fighters, so we could upgrade from our artificial BFF to a couple real ones who cover our weaknesses.

Fightin' man never, ever wins in voting. But I want it to win, because I'm feeling the mage even less than normal this quest.
