Nice chapter. I liked learning more about Miki, and it was kind of funny seeing Miki being frustrated at not being able to seduce Baeran. Beyond that, I am split on the vote. I think I'll abstain.

Edit: Well, I've been told it was important to vote, so I'm going to leave it. I think I'd just feel like an ass if the touchy subject was pushed.

That... is interesting. I kinda took Miki as a very what you see is what you get kinda character. Not to say she didn't have depth, but... I guess she does seem to have something of a switch, where one moment she's talking about her intellectual accomplishments and pursuits, her life goals and ambitions, of which she has some lofty one's. Then she's throwing herself at Bearen. Which is odd, because by this point I'd think she'd have picked up how that's not the way into his pants. It's base in a way that I wouldn't expect of her anyway, given how much she loves showing off her brain power and problem solving skills.

Then again, there does seem to be some inner conflict to her. One she's kept very buried given how much I haven't picked up on it. I'm good with pushing on that.

Is it a bad thing?

In my defence she hasn't had much chance to show up! But I've been saving revelations for over two years.

Not a bad thing, no. As you say, we haven't talked to her like, at all. She was never uninteresting, we just had a lot of interesting characters to talk to. Plus she came in just before Gorefiend, so a little late to the party.

Yep, I'm very happy to get to show her off now. She was always meant to be an odd little dichotomy.
 
what the hell, Baeran's a level 20 paladin who hopefully has the charisma for this, lets see how it goes. Worst comes to worst, he apologizes, and Miki still feels the need to heal him.

"As I truly am" might have something to do with whatever it is she lost. Or, she never lost that part of herself, making her different from other Mamono in a way that makes her self-conscious.

Mamono culture is weird, so it could be an issue that we otherwise wouldn't have a problem with. For example, any dog-based Mamono could be ostracized from a community for lacking paw pads, or a hellhound that doesn't like fighting.

It's a little bit of a jerk move to keep pushing after being told to get lost, but I don't think it would be a mortal offense or anything irreparable. Anyway, I'm just too interested to finally be going more deeply into Miki. Charisma stat, take the wheel!

Edit: ...I maybe could have phrased that better. Into her backstory.

This is a conversation that's probably going to have to happen at some point, and Miki seems almost as prone to dodging interventions as Baeran was. What better time than when they're both stuck in the infirmary together?

I must admit I'm quite excited for whatever comes next, Miki is someone I've had in mind since this quest was still on the drawing board, and was one of the characters I actually fleshed out well beforehand. It took a while to get to her, namely because she has her shit more sorted than some others. So it's nice to finally get to that.

Today is a day for elaborating on deeply held emotional/physical traumas. One would think Baeran has both covered, but theres plenty to go around!

It also probably makes going home awkward. She's the eldest by a lot, and what I know about Succubus makes me think they don't have much in common with Miki. That can be very tough in a sibling dynamic. Plus she's a completely different type of Monster Girl. All together, I wouldn't be surprised if she feels like an outcast in her own family.

Hmm, then you consider the effort they went through to get her an education, and the expectations that come with it. Cut to now, and her mom and dad probably aren't putting that kind of pressure on her many little susters. That's gotta suck on its own. And this is just extrapolating from what she's told Bearen just now.

I'm starting to see where Miki could be something of a mess behind the teasing and arrogance.
