Suffer Not the Witch (Warhammer 40k Psyker Quest)

[X] Distrust. Crane hates you and all your kind, you learned that much. You do not trust him to set that hatred aside and give you any reward he promises.

This isn't Space Marine Servant quest.
Honestly something about this situation feels off. First we manage to get lost despite the fact that we're in a group, then we find a servo skull of not just someone with a personal history with us, but the skull had enough of the memory of the person to actually hold a conversation with us. That's not something servo skulls do. They're made from loyal servants sure, but servo skulls are ultimately simple servants. They don't do this kind of stuff.

Then there is Ciciro's convenient timing, right after we kill this thing he shows up to press us on important details about our thought process.

This situation feels artificial.
I think the implication is that Crane was talking through the skull, and wasn't actually the skull

[X] (write-in) Solidarity. You think back to your decision to free all of your fellow prisoners, despite the differences, the risks, and it going against everything you had ever been taught. Like it or not, they are the only ones who will ever understand the meaning of that decision, and it's something you can't go back on.

[X] Loyalty. Ciro has been kinder to you than any since your powers manifested, and you would not spit on that bond for such a paltry prize

[X] Write in (QM reserves veto) Defiance: these people think they can break me? They are wrong, they THINK that I will let them take what I have left because I am not willing to die for the imperium who took everything I love from me the moment I
Didn't put their benefit before my life? THEY ARE WRONG, they BELIEVE that I will just bow down and summit simply because the imperium despises what I am?! THEY.ARE.WRONG!! I am Vincenzo Leonardo Borgia, of Malfi and I will not bow to anybody ever again, not to the Emperor, not to the Ruinous Powers, not to ANYTHING this gods-damned Galaxy in which there's nothing but War can throw at Me!!

If that's the case then we're in big trouble. Outside of astropaths, the Imperium doesn't have any ftl communication, and as such that would mean that at least Crane (and probably the rest of the Inquisitor's retinue) is in the same system we are in.

Pretty sure the implication was that he is still on the ship.

I like solidarity the most, as it implies the whole "found family" thing we wanted to go for when we woke them all up.

Seconding distrust as I don't want Simping to win. If there comes to be a relationship it should develop naturally, founded on mutual respect, not just the MC latching onto the first sign of affection given by anyone. Playing at least a little hard to get is more likely to get him to invest more emotionally in us instead of taking us for granted.

Given our protagonist is Malfi I can't help but wonder if this is merely what he says rather than what actually he thinks.

If that's the case I'd be strongly tempted to go with loyalty to convince Ciro to not brutally murder us when he finds his way out. On the other hand, saying you're loyal without really feeling it to a space marine is playing a dangerous game.

Loyalty seems a little much, we've only just met the man; I like the idea of playing up Vincenzo's paranoia more than the other options.

Ah, to clarify, the servo-skull was simply a remote drone controlled by someone elsewhere on the ship. In this case Crane, who is indeed still alive and somewhere aboard.

And what do you mean Ciro is perfectly trustworthy and has only your best interests at heart.

[X] Hatred. After all Crane and his master have done to you, you would sooner spit on his corpse than accept even the sweetest of deals.

I was tempted to vote for Loyalty because I like the idea that Vincenzo would be a devoted ally who repays whatever trust that people invest in him, but realistically, there's not been even close to enough time for him to be feeling a sense of camaraderie with any of the four prisoners he's freed. The Inquisition is a terrible organisation, but that does not mean that everyone they imprison is a good guy; any or all of the other four prisoners might yet try to kill us or otherwise fuck us over, Ciro included.

We are the only person we can be confident that will look out for us at the moment. When we finally get off this ship, if Ciro (or whoever else) has still not yet backstabbed us, then we can finally start evaluating whether he's worth any loyalty.

I will say I'm not sure going with Distrust here is going to lead Vicenzo in a great direction.

That is, he was born and raised in a culture that regards being deceptive and manipulative as foundational values to be practiced at all times, and on top of that he grew up having to hide his psyker abilities from everyone around him. And, cherry on top of being submerged in not-Nostromo with a deep dark secret, the one time he actually revealed that secret to someone (the Menagerie) they turned out to be Chaos cultists lying to him and manipulating him to their own ends.

Honestly, it's very much an open question if anyone in his life has ever been open and honest with him, poor guy is starving for something that he may not know exists, I'd like it if he did know that loyalty was a thing, if he craved it, he wanted to be loyal to someone who deserved it and have them be loyal to him, if he was reaching out, even in a fumble fingered way, rather than "Imma embrace the Skaven male grindset, lie, backstab, lie, backstab, yes-yes."

As far as Ciro goes, yes he's being charming, yes people are usually charming for a reason, by the same token he's a Space Marine. He and the Eldar are the two members of the group best equipped to ditch everyone else and still make it out alive, he knows this, he's secure enough and self confident enough that doesn't need to to play head games with Borgia just because.

And yes, he may betray us. Nadia may betray us (trustworthy Rogue Trader = I don't think anyone else has bribed them more than me), Bole may betray us (trustworthy Tech Priest = I don't think anyone has offered them an authentic Dark Age of Technology toaster if they betray me), Sidhe is...it's hard to say what her deal is beyond "Xenos in the company of four others from a culture that has the murder of her kind as holy dogma", but that alone "Oh no I had to throw the Imperial mon-leigh that hates and fears me under the bus oh well next order of business."

If Vicenzo's going to trust people again, or ever, he's got to start somewhere. And he's already got a decent rapport with Ciro (also everyone else he ever knew is probably dead of old age now, options limited in that regard, but that's kinda depressing to dwell on.)
