[X] "You've gone ten times too far. We're through, Maggie. You can call me to clean up your mess when she stakes you in the back. Until then, keep your toy soldiers the hell out of my way." Buffy shoved past Faith and left the office. She'd grab Willow and then hold a meeting to circle the wagons.

A concern I have with any attempt at "Congressional oversight" is we don't know (unless the Willows acquired this info somewhere along the way) how many pols WRH own/influence...but its unquestionably a number above zero. And I'm pretty sure that oversight authority on the Initiative is just the kind of loophole in our agreement that they could and would exploit.

I also am strongly against fighting Faith ... right now, anyway. Last time we fought, she lost, and nearly died ... and now here she is, pretty blatantly trying to bait us into another. Only reason to do that is if she has some kind of scheme: whether it's the canon switcheroo trick, or she's got armed backup, I don't trust it and don't wanna chance it. If/when we fight, it should be on our terms.

EDIT: I also don't think involving the Council is a good idea, for two reasons -- first being, they don't want Faith in prison or rehabilitation, they want a Slayer under their control again and they don't care what they have to do to get that, whether that's reconditioning/brainwashing Faith, or deciding she's not worth the effort and offing her to roll the dice on a new Slayer; and second ... we invite them into Sunnydalr and we're gonna end up in a three-way turf war between the Initiative, the Council, and us -- 'cause there's no way they'd abide our attempts at an egalitarian society with demons, and once they start a war against us and/or the Initiative, the Initiative will likewise take the gloves off.

[X] Buffy knew this was an awful idea, but she forced herself to be reasonable. If she cut off the Initiative over this, it would only make the inevitable meltdown Faith would cause go even worse. She had to be responsible about this, not for herself, but for the sake of the entire city. (NOTE: Due to the effects of Buffy's Domain, if you select this option Buffy's mental state will become seriously unbalanced for an indefinite duration, leading her to make impulsive decisions in matters unrelated to the Initiative.)

This looks like fun.

@DeAnno
1 Buffy know anyone with mind magic or a truth spell?
2 can Buffy put a geas on Faith?
3 can Buffy get a tracking chip on her
4 can Buffy beat up Faith just cause? I really want to see a fight scene.
5 would it be easier to do mind magic or place a tracking chip Faith if Buffy beats her up?

I am also against fighting Faith but for exactly the opposite reason. She can't possibly know about our speed, won't have practical experience with how much stronger and more talented Buffy is compared to 3 months earlier, and probably believes she is entirely inside Buffy's reach with the hammer. If we fight her now with Kill screaming out she is probably going to die. I want Faith to be around for awhile.

[X] "You're going to pay for what you've done, Faith. You may have pulled the wool over Maggie's eyes, but I'm not just a nobody anymore. I'm taking this all the way to the top, and you're going to end up in prison, right where you belong." Buffy had some phone calls to make, starting with Congressman Gold. This whole Initiative project could probably use some good old fashioned daylight.

Faith got captured and is being controlled with a mind chip. Faith in cannon was unstable and wanted to hurt Buffy. Here I am thinking the vampires who made off with her got taken out and faith got captured. She woke up and Maggie did something to her to keep her under control. I am thinking mind chip. Maggie is not the trusting type of person.

1. Both are fairly unreliable things Willow could try. Truth spell is more up her alley of the two.
2. Nope. Too hard.
3. Willow has them for the radios already but she isn't into wetworks right now. Implanting it would be pretty dicey, even if you had the opportunity.
4. Buffy thinks she is entirely capable of beating up Faith and would like nothing more than to fight right now.
5. Exercise left to the reader.

However I have to ask how the hell the Initiative get their hands on Faith?

Yo @DeAnno about my question.

Faith! I missed you so!
I knew it was her the moment Maggie started getting dodgy about the conversation topic.

Let's get it on!

People voting for the "peaceful" option are, I hope, seriously contemplating the consequences of the newly elected mayor becoming unbalanced and impulsive in all other fields, meaning her professional and personal life, and not just hoping to keep Faith alive.

Full disclosure: I want her alive as well. Partly out of pessimistic practicality (I don't want an unknown Slayer ending up in the Council's hands) and also because I like her character, and her canon future arcs (and, well, I'm also shipper trash, just like Eliza Dushku) but I think circling the wagons will allow us to work out a way to neutralise her while also keeping her alive, without the malus imposed on the vote here. And if not, we can at least try to handle some things (like coming out to our camp with Harmony) before imposing the malus

All options have a malus associated with them. Having the Initiative work independently and possibly at cross-purposes with us without actually taking steps to remove them from our city is probably also not ideal.

I was looking for their reunion because of the conflict and drama potential it presents, so I am fine with whatever form it takes. Hoping it'd be something more explosive where we get to trade blows, though.

...eventually, that is, because attacking her on sight is a bit more unreasonable than I am willing to stomach.

Yeah I going to go with Faith being the new Adam and she has a mind control chip in her head. You know since Maggie was not the most ethical in cannon I think this scenario is something she would do. I foresee a fight with Cyber Faith in the future.

Whelp, looks like our breakup with Maggie is going to happen a bit earlier than I expected.

Honestly? At the end of everything, jail was good for Faith. Which, considering the American prison system's track record, is something of a miracle, but it's true nonetheless. If we can convince Angel to deal with her (and thus get her some Angel brand counseling), maybe since Buffy is aware she's not a great choice for interacting with her sister Slayer due to their history and bad blood, she might have a serious shot at redemption.

I mean, beyond the direct redemption option here. That's liable to make Faith our problem while she's still in her bad girl phase, and then also screws with the rest of Buffy's life and job as well.

Oof, tough choices here. Wow, this is a great update, and a nice twist to have Faith working for the Initiative. I don't think she has the canon-switcheroo item, not yet or here at least. Keeping it quiet in the base would be tough, and I don't think Maggie would want to go for that, so I don't think that's why she's acting like she is here. No, Faith is probably just being her regular self and thinks that we can't beat her, not in the middle of this base. We could, but... that might end up with the Initiative in all out war with us.

Hmm, I'm not sure about getting the government to place a spotlight on everything. I don't know how much power Gold has for that, or how many favors we'd have to trade to get it. End of the day we might just push them towards even more unsavory groups like WR&H.

Closing off from them is the least immediately damaging or causing long term debts, but in the middle term, the Initiative is going to be in our town, probably causing trouble. A lot of tension and issues there.

Trying to move past it would be so nice without the mental issues (which is what makes this such a deliciously tough vote). Maggie, as much as she was coaching her words with us and trying to ease us into accepting Faith, did seem like she's on the verge of accepting a lot of the knowledge and guidance we have. It would make things run a lot smoother to have them on our side, and Faith can be redeemed, canon has shown it's possible.

Faith is my girl and if anything was going to unhinge Buffy it would be this. I choose to believe she'll be stronger for it afterwards. Or maybe I'm wrong and this will blow up on her face. Either way I'm glad Faith is back! Unless they did something to her. In which case, Death to The Initiative!

I often quibble about how to vote for this, but damn. I am really tempted to go with all out assault, but Buffy's powers strongly suggest she might get Faith dead. I really fucking do not want Faith dead, but I also don't really like Buffy reacting in a calm fashion and giving a speech here.
