Style, Shadows, and Swagger: A Dark Lady Quest

true but we are DEFINITELY capable of trickery at this point, I mean we are a fallen angel it is what we do! seduction, deceit, and the like.

so I figured cover our weaknesses at first like direct combat in case some whack hero gets lucky and finds us early on.

Otherwise we need the scholar as they are more useful than the trickster.

Uhhh, the update itself devoted quite a few words to describe how badass Gabriel is. Stormwhite in the info post explicitly said that the protagonist is an accomplished shit-kicker and exp towards her base stats would be of marginal utility. She probably not as big of a shit-kicker as the valkyrie in vacum, but if people wanted a fite-woman who seeks strong people to challenge they should have chosen the valkyrie.

The vote here is about how Gabriel approaches her villainy. By martial force, where every village she conquers starts being corrupted by her very presence; By intrigue, where she attacks with lies and deceit seeking to undermine Albion's strength by turning the country against itself; or by knowledge, where Gabriel seeks to tempt with hidden secrets and letting the ruling class just enough knowledge to hang themselves with.

EDIT: The first vote was about what themes do the protagonist embodies, and this vote is how does she express them.

Meat Shield!

[X] A trickster, clad in smoke and shadow. A sly wink, a subtle whisper and sourceless laughter in the night; she wears deception like a dress and weaves illusions as easily as breathing.

Since we are the one who plots (and will basically end up being Lilith) I think it would be prudent to make sure that we have our own right-hand man to be a warrior.

apparently this is not an advisor vote but rather a vote on our characters own style. I would recommend focusing on what you want our character to be able to do instead.

ah right, sorry. It's just that I have a habit of skipping over pages of votes.

I what? Where did this come from?

Let me make this clear, this vote has no impact on your character sheet.
ah then it was just @SITB lying... good to know, ty for the info.

therefore BACK to my original vote...

[X] A scholar, eyes gleaming with hunger and enigmatic desire. A secret that is never to be told, a riddle that is never to be solved, a mystery that is never to be unraveled; she seeks all these and more.

I like all of them tbh.

Look, we need a Sorcha who can crush the countryside with an iron fist, but still be as beautiful as she is evil and have sexual tension with Mad Martigan when he shows up with a plucky band of midgets to save the day.

That's, like, Evil 101 there. A scholar can't do that, because scholars stay close to home, they don't go out marauding where they can run into heros. A trickster might be able to do it, but a trickster wouldn't be as good at keeping order in the actual evil stronghold.

Look, we need someone to have impressive battles with the heroes while we loom menacingly from above. Someone that makes them totally confident once they beat only for us to show up even stronger.

... Also, I want someone who can plant a gauntleted fist in the face of people we don't like.

The right secret came to my ears, and now I am tempted. Besides, I've seen too many stories of churches covering up dark secrets to think there's not a few to be found here...

I think this would complement us more. As said before, we're already an "accomplished shit-kicker", which means that any boost to our fighting strength will be marginal from any of these choices.

Since we're already decently powerful, the fastest way to gain more power, in my opinion, is through knowledge. A lack of knowledge is like having a nuke but not knowing where to point it at and how it works. But if we find some great weakness in a powerful enemy, or a shortcut to gaining personal or political power, or a loophole in the fabric of the universe, then that'd boost our power far more than getting a fighty person who's much weaker than we are.

While I don't really trust SV to be willing to go very far down the corruption route, I'll push it every step of the way.

It's a dragon to our antagonist. The very visible figure that beats face in and openly defied the forces of Light and Justice while we undermine them and corrupt them. The impossible for who's very servitude demands awe of wha even they fear and serve. It's all about the story.

The warrior contests the Crusaders, pushes them to the very brink until their devotion is of course rewarded, and where else would they find salvation than in the Arms of an Angel

This is looking interesting. We seem to be powerful enough to not require extra muscle and as our mother said, choosing a right hand is important, so I'd hate to waste that choice on a brute. I'd rather an intellectual to be honest, a steward in all things nefarious rather than a common thug. Loyalty's important though and tricksters are too tricky so...

We need a James Wesley for our Kingpin!

ehhhh I don't think they are a brute so much as a powerful combatant and strategist.

Which you should never discount, good strategy is something VERY hard to find among evil armies. It also tends to be either what allows the good guys to fight them or what ends up getting them defeated in the end.

Think about it, The empire from Star Wars, Amon for SC2, Mengsk from the same, Chaos forces from Warhammer 40k usually have poor strategy, The Burning Legion from Warcraft 3 and WoW, Hitler IRL, the list goes on and on.

Then you have the ones with good strategy which tend to last a bit longer such as the major Ork Warbosses in 40k, and I know there are others I just can't think of any atm.

But ya, NEVER discount a military advisor as they tend to be VERY useful.

I'll take Xel'lotath over either Ulyaoth or Chattur'gha.

All the description really seems to imply is personal power. I see no reason to believe any one option is the better military strategist.

But what, in the description of the scenario we're dealing with, suggests we want an army or military leader?
The land you currently reside in—the Kingdom of Albion—is a highly religious place. While it has a monarch who theoretically reigns in their capital city of Londinium, in practice it is the Church who rule the country. Any who attempt to contest them are swiftly subdued by their military arm, the Crusaders.

An order with thousands of swords that they can call to action, divine magic that they can invoke at need, and numerous so-called heroes sworn to their banner--they make an intimidating force, all-in-all.

It's a good thing you were never intending to face them head-on, really. Oh, you might very well manage to carve out your territory doing so directly, but it would lack… finesse.

What's the point of being a Dark Lady who has spent years mastering darker sorcery if you can't do things in style, after all?
