Stark Quest 2.0: The Search for Shinies

Hmm. Reading sounds useful for our current situation. If we want to improve ourselves, then Regeneration is probably better than Multitasking, as it'll allow us to heal Insanity points and reduce our need for sleep.
But we might need to fight Drogo and his allies soon, and for that, a Fire Name 4 would be useful. Hnng. Can't decide.

Of Attacks, Reading is complexity 10, making it very difficult to raise, and being able to read the emotions and thoughts of others would be massively usefull, both now and in the future.

Nothings really cool in Defenses.

Regeneration seems best in Augments.

Fire would be handy offensive wise.

Angreal does not seem seem usefull, since we cannot depend on it being powerfull, and since it won't give us a boost anytime soon. Also, it would add yet another item on the "share with Ithroen" list.

Help from Home is probably least usefull. What could they send us? Ned is the only shardbearer left and he cannot come, and normal men and support is unlikely to make any difference against Drogo, who is the biggest problem and we have plenty of gold.

[X] From Westeros with Love. Help is on its way from Home.

We do kind of need help; our ships are gone and we have angry shard armed Drogo/Joral and company to deal with.

We have 100K money, we can buy new ships, or just steal them if Ithroen is ok.

And what do you think Ned could send us that would be of any help against Drogo and Jorah? Theres no more shardbearers to send, which means normal men. Thats just more men for Drogo to slaughter with ease in order to further impress his horse gods.

I wouldn't mind some of the merman's boats...

Still, leaning towards Fire.

Getting a powerful sa'angreal for free would be a bit much, no matter how lucky we are.
And like I said, I would have gone for the angreal if we weren't in such great danger and didn't need something right now.

Thoughts about help from Westeros: Baelor Hightower to the rescue? :o

Tempted by that reading. We will likely encounter all sorts of political stuff after we return home, and being able to read minds would be awesome. Still, it would be good to have some combat ability.

Meh, lets go with fire! This will also help with naming otherwise, which should help a lot.

I don't think that Mazrick would offer a useless bonus compared to the others. Help doesn't have to mean the North either; the high towers may have sent help and there are a great deal of Shard bearers in the Reach.

The first two options seem to be the most shiny ones and many will go for them. I'm gonna argue that they are not the ones we should choose.

I'm for this one:

[X] From Westeros with Love. Help is on its way from Home.

REASONING: And I'm gonna tell you why. We don't roll for it like the first shiny, which we might not get. And it'll benefit more than just us. Personal gain is something the second shiny does.

The third shiny, though?

It isn't said what help we will get. Considering all the shinies should be more or less equal, the help will probably be significant. It probably won't only be Ned who'll come to our rescue. Don't forget that we're the grandson of Hoster Tully. Ned has the ear of both Jon Arryn and King Robert Baratheon. We could be looking here at a full invasion of Essos. Robert would certainly be up for it. Hoster would like to get his grandsons back. The North will stand with Ned. And Jon Arryn will go along to prevent Robert from doing something foolish. Wouldn't this be awesome?

Let's go for it. :D

@Mazrick, can we get a rough idea what Fire 4 would give us?
Fire 4:
  • Control a sphere of fire with up to 24 inches in radius. You can manipulate fire within this spherical space, you are going to be somewhat precise. +20 to a roll of 1d100 for precise actions
  • Move the fire at speeds up to 75 mph as long as its in your line of sight.
  • You may maintain control of fire for 12 seconds and call the Name 4 times a day without penalty.
  • Heat you can manipulate fire up to 2000 °C. This includes putting fires out as well.
Also, what would happen if we chose Ithroen +3? :p
Feel free to try.;)o_O

Hmm. This could be potentially handy. But if Ithroen/Hightower died, not sure how helpfull he would be. And if Ithroen is alive, we can acquire Jorah easily enough, so we would have 3 shardbearers anyway. I think I would prefer to boost Harlon in some way, and I think Fire could be handy. He could actually attack Drogo with fire from range, while Robb, Jon and (Jorah?) fought him. Maybe do that whole face full of flame trick.

I'm kind of wavering between Naming:Fire and Mind:Regeneration.
On the one hand, Fire is awesome. On the other hand, Ithroen can already do it better than us, and we're best at Mind Magic anyhow, which Regenerate will facilitate. It'll also help with removing the aftereffects of Observation (and Naming), as we aren't Jon 'Can Observe At A Reduced Penalty' Snow.
But Naming is a powerful field anyway, and we need to start on defense against the Speaker of Obscenities...
Can't decide. :(

Ahh. Fullscale War between Westeros and Essos that will kill tens of thousands. :)

Theres the Atri we all know and love! Everyone must die! :p

1. We have an bonus to learning on Augmentations and we have INT 10 which means we learn Mind Magic very fast anyways.
2. We currently have no decidedly lethal magics of our own. If we're taking a major learning boost, it should be to something that will hopefully keep us alive until we get home.

Just a thought.

Even a sizable army would help us even the playing field. The Dothraki would be easier to take this way. And even if we somehow ally with Dany, we can still hide her away in the underground base.

Robert Baratheon went to war for Lyanna Stark, his great love. Do you guys not think that he'll come to rescue us with a huge-ass army after he hears that two of Ned's kids are in Pentos, fighting against Dothraki barbarians and Targs? He'll surely do it for that, and to get away from Cersei and her brood.

Getting a skill boost is nice, but we're gonna get there eventually anyway, because we're Harlon and we love leveling. Loot like the first shiny we're probably gonna find in time. Robert-"I'll smash your face in with a hammer"-Baratheon with hundreds or thousands of back-up soldiers? Priceless right now.

Hmm. Fire 4 is a 61 cm sphere of flame traveling at 33.5 meters per second at temperature of 2000 C.

Can be used 4 times a day, we can hit anything in our line of sight, and we are reasonably precise.

@Mazrick, how much did we need to roll again on a 1d100 to hit someone from say 10 meters away?

What kind of roll to hit a moving target from 10 meters away?

What about to hit a moving target straight into the face from 10 meters away?

My devious plan bears fruit already

By the way Mazrick, what's Star Quest? *points to first sentence of the thread*
