So basically we did great on everything except the Stargate, and we probably still got an address list or something out of it. An excellent first showing.

There is an old quote... You don't remember the exact words of it, but the general gist is that humans are adaptable. That anything, anywhere can become normal, just part of life. Or... Something like that at least, and it is kind of surprising just how true that is.
You lean back in the cheap office chair that you keep here in your second office here on Abydos, watching out the glassless window as O'Neill chats with some of the Abydonian children. Here you are, in the middle of a desert on a whole different planet, and at some point over the last month it stopped being...
Well, no.
It is still amazing and awe inspiring, to know that you are in a place that no one from America has ever been before. That you are out in a new frontier that the world doesn't even know is there yet.
But, despite all of that, it has become just a part of your work week. You spend two days a week here on Abydos, with the rest working out from the Stargate Facility back on Earth.
You take a moment to sit there and parse that. You commute to a different solar system for work, and it's just a thing now. Nothing out of the usual, nothing out of the ordinary. This is your life now, and to be honest, the only thing that could make it better would be if your grandchildren could come and see this all.
It has been a month since you took command of the SGC, and what a month it has been.
The best place to try and start with your month would be with the simplest of the tasks that you starting working towards completing. With the way that your people are coming and going at all hours of the day, the people of Abydos need to be inoculated against any potential sicknesses or diseases that they might get from Earth.
This could have been a very troubling situation, if it weren't for your Chief Medical Officer, one Doctor Janet Fraiser.
You were introduced to the doctor at the end of your first two day stint on Abydos, working with the engineers of the new facility to begin setting things up.
Doctor Fraiser is... Well, she knows what she is doing, and you are quite thankful to have someone with as much experience but more importantly, someone with the kind of grit and moxie that the woman has. The way that she is able to stare down O'Neill in order to make sure that he is getting the rest that he needs... Prior to seeing it for yourself, you never imagined that such a thing was possible to begin with.
But that leads you into both the good news, and the bad news.
To get the bad news out of the way first - The mission isn't quite complete yet, and that's both in part due to the sheer number of inoculations that need to be done in order to keep them all safe, and the sheer number of people who need to be given these inoculations.
Despite all of that, the good news is that the program is running quickly, its running efficiently, and above all else, it's managed to go over well with the locals. According to the Doctor herself, the Medical teams are just under half way done with the program as it is now. Another month with the program running as smoothly as this one did, and everything should be done.
[INFO GAINED! TOTAL SCORE REQUIRED 250]
[Inoculate Abydonians 0 → 119]
Of course, there is the very real fact that part of the reason that everything went as smoothly as it did is because of your first fireteam, or SG-1 as O'Neill has taken to call the squad. Between O'Neill's connection with Skaara and the other abydonian kids, Daniel's marriage to Sha're, and Carter's easy going approachable nature, the three man team had managed to keep the peace among the people of Nagada while the doctors did their work.
However, that isn't the say that is the only thing that SG-1 managed to accomplish during the month. Oh no... They did something much greater.
Well, saying it like that really takes away from Skaara's contribution to the whole matter as well. Over the last month Daniel has been extraordinarily important in helping to not only translate between the people of Earth and the people of Abydos, but also helped people on both sides learn the language of the other.
Not quite because of that, but certain in relation to the increasing ability for O'Neill and Skaara to communicate with each other, Skaara has shown an interest in studying under the Colonel, and it was while mimicking the older soldier's daily training that the young man encountered something amazing.
Something breathtaking, and something that has shown the possibility to completely change the mission that you have been given going forward. That's actually much of what you are supposed to be doing right now, instead of reminiscing about the last month.
Skaara discovered a chamber buried in the sound not too far from the pyramid that is now the Abydos Stargate Facility. Inside of the room were dozens upon dozens of statues, each marked with six symbols, and topped by a unique sigil, unlike any of the other symbols in the room.
They are Stargate Addresses. So far only a single one of the addresses has been dialed, but notably this has run into a problem.
From Abydos, the address works entirely fine, but from Earth... No.
There is something wrong, something that isn't working correctly. Of course, that does make a degree of sense, because when coming to Abydos, anyone passing through the Stargate comes out freezing cold and frosted with ice, but the same doesn't happen when traveling from Abydos to Earth.
Captain Cater has a theory that this may be related to some sort of celestial drift that has occurred in the time since the Stargate was placed on Earth and Abydos. According to the Captain, that is probably what is so important about the device used to operate the gate on the Abydos side.
The doctor is certain that it won't take long at all to make the adjustments, and doing so with both solve the icing problem as well as allow travel to the other addresses that have been found.

Suffice to say that SG-1 had a very busy month, but your second fireteam, SG-2 may have actually had an even busier month than your lead team.
It was just over a month and a half ago now that Ra's ship was destroyed by the sabotaged nuclear device that General West sent with the original Stargate mission, and it says... something, that there are pieces of the ship that managed to survive the explosion. Thankfully it seems that the vast majority of the pieces crashed down to the planet below, even though there does seem to be some debris still up there, and more yet that was blown out from the planet's orbit into the depths of space, likely to never be seen again.
Those pieces that crashed to earth however... Those were what you ordered SG-2 to go out and find. Again, this would have been far more difficult if not for the help of the native people of Abydos, as...
Despite the fact that they have been denied the chance to develop technology due to the interference of Ra, the people of Abydos know much about their world and how to travel across it. One of the few developments that the fake god allowed them to have was something akin to a boat, made of bone and wrapped in leather with a massive sail that allows the winds to carry it across the sands.
It isn't as fast as a car, but at the same time, there are few cars that would manage to keep speed in the sheer sands of the Abydonian desert. But after a few days of learning how to pilot one, SG-2 took to their mission with a relish and a joy, and in fact, the next time that the SG-2 was sent back to Earth, for a debriefing, Major Warren ordered a windsurfing board for the squad.
Honestly, even you've been tempted to go and try it out, but there is just too much that needs to be done. Even better, between the two vehicles that the team now had, they managed to explore even more, and while you aren't certain that they managed to find every piece of the shattered ship, what they've managed to come up with is more than good enough. Honestly, there is so much here that you aren't even sure what to do with it all. The worst part is that if you had an idea what some of this was, you might be able to tell what was worth experimenting with and taking a look at, and what really wasn't.

And of course, on top of all the various bits and bobs of technology that SG-2 has collected, they also managed to find a massive amount of the strange metal alloys that make up the ship. Perhaps there is something that can be learned from all of that.
And speaking of what you might be able to learn... Over the last month you have had the research teams working day and night trying to understand as much about the Stargates as they can.
Good news - Nothing exploded, nothing was destroyed.
The bad news... Let's be honest here, the bad news was pretty much expected at this point.
The Stargate flies in the face of everything that we know about the universe at this point. It does the impossible as passive aspect of existing. And that's nothing compared to what happens when the thing is active. On more than one occasion, you came into the labs to find Ferreti sitting there, hitting his head against the table after failing to make sense of something that the science teams managed to find.
To be entirely honest, you are getting the feeling that right here and right now this is about the best that you can expect of your teams when it comes to trying to understand technology this far ahead of everything that you know and understand. You've heard the comparison before, of how a caveman would see a car as magic, completely lacking all the context to understand it, and to be entirely honest...
You were never the kind of man to believe that. But this... This might just be that very concept in action. Even so, it's a matter of you thinking that there might be better options to research right now, instead of continuing to push down this road.
While your scientists have been struggling to get even the slightest hint of information out of the Stargate itself, nearly the opposite has been happening with your engineers, who have been working around the clock throwing themselves into the process of ripping apart and redesigning the main room of your new complex, creating an actual staging ground for your teams to work from.
[ABYDOS GATEROOM REACHED 5 PROGRESS]
Much of the progress can be put at the feet of one Sylvester Siler, a Master Sergeant who has a remarkable skill when it comes to organizing the movement and usage of materials.
The original projection was that it would take a full month before there was an embarkation room ready to be used, but Siler managed to get the whole thing designed and constructed in less than a week.
CHOOSE ONE:
[ ][Gate1] Gear Lockers
- Due to the construction of proper gear lockers, all fire teams have the gear that they need already ready when it's time to go through the gates.
-- During any mission through the gates, all members of Fire teams get +1 Aim
[ ][Gate1] Gate Ramp
- With a proper Gate Ramp, it is easier to go in and out of the Stargate.
-- Increase Fire Team Max Size form 4 to 5
[ABYDOS GATEROOM REACHED 10 PROGRESS]
And of course the man didn't stop there, instead continuing to ride the engineers hard in order to make sure that progress was made. The room isn't quite completely done yet, no, but it is by far already to the point where missions can be controlled from the Gate Room proper instead of just there just being someone standing by.
CHOOSE ONE:
[ ][Gate2] Hard Points
- Setting up hard points for defensive weapons means that it is easier than ever to make sure that things can't come through the gate. Which, as you have just learned is an actual threat now.
-- In the instance of Gate based attacks, roll twice for Offense and take the higher
[ ][Gate2] Plexiglas
- You may not have the massive supercomputer that the Earth based Gateroom uses to work the Stargate, but putting up defenses around the Dialing Device and the rest of Mission control means that if things go wrong and a Hot retreat is called that the noncombat crew is safer.
-- in the instance of Gate based attacks, roll twice for Defense and take the higher
There is still more than needs to be done, yes, that is true, but the amount that Silas has achieved in a single month cannot be understated, and you are planning on recommending the man for a commendation out of all of this.
But those are the events that have occurred over the first month that you have been running the Stargate program. There isn't a lot to be said of it yet, but most of that is because you are here, on the precipice of things changing.
Who knows what is out there, a great frontier larger than any in human history, and you are commanding the ship riding into that sunset.
You can't help the smile on your face as you get ready to set out the orders for the month.

[][Redphone] Acquire Scientists
Definitely this. We have a massive research backlog, and the sooner we get more scientists the sooner we can chew through it all.
Fireteams I am Unsure.
Researchers I would like to apply to these first:
[ ] Study Colored Crystals
[ ] Alien Alloy
[ ] Study Stargate Mineral
The crystals strike me as a computer thing and the materials science is always a good baseline tech. The Sarcophagus is also really good but also is Risky To Use. EDIT: Did a google, the crystals are power sources, always good baseline techs to understand.
Engineering I would like to finish the Gaterooms before we get into new projects.
Not many opinions on Gateroom Design atm, although I am leaning towards the ramp.
Medical actions should of course be finishing the vaccines.
Okay, Fireteam 2 seems to be mostly good at shooting but also nerds? And SG1 seems to be actually just good at everything. Makes sense, it's all our hero units in one spot.
So maybe SG1 keeps doing Abydos Diplomacy and SG2 goes on an Exploration? Or SG1 could explore and SG2 could, IDK, go look for more ship debris? Or they could both explore.
What I don't want to do is have both Fireteams stay on Abydos. We have other stuff to do.
Hard choice between ramp or gear, but gear is more ready room.

So we really need to understand the Abydonians, so that should be knocked out first.
SG1 can put the new gateroom to use.
And we need a better feel for Abydos, Luckily SG2 have experience in sand surfing.
Engineering is hard choice, Barracks for places to sleep, Med to help with inoculations, or offices to get our own work done, and well, we did just request more people.
We need to finish the inoculations.
