Starblazers: Journey Home (Space Battleship Yamato 2199 RP)

Okay, next GM post will be after I get some sleep.

Looking forward to it! The Cosmonaut Aubakirov is shouting into the darkness, particularly trying to reach the Tenri Tagh--or at least shower it and the battleships with telemetry and data from its vantage point (on the far side of Charon? I'm just eyeballing this obviously). Also basic verbal confirmation of the "This is the fast battlecruiser Cosmonaut Aubakirov on the far side of Charon, broadcasting to the other ships of the provisional First Offensive Fleet. We are maneuvering to engage the enemy formation and are awaiting further instructions from Fleet Commander Tremblay..." repeated over and over again, feel free to use that if you so desire.

(Obviously, its own crew would call it Cosmonaut Aubakirov, but I don't expect everyone else to obey that--that'st just the Eurasian tendency to sometimes avoid nicknames and contractions in technical jargon.)

And I'm kinda worried just straight-out charging the enemy was a mistake. I'm counting on the Australia's maneuverability to keep her alive, but I'm starting to regret my decision. Any advice?

Don't linger?

(There, now that the useless advice is out of the way--maybe use the telemetry and tracking information (on enemy movements) from the Cosmonaut Aubakirov to plot a safe course out of there once things get dicey? Don't linger too long, eventually the Garmillans will try and swat it down like the annoying recon gnat that it is.)

I certainly don't plan to linger. CruRon 4's plan is to make one pass right through the fleet, going like a bat out of hell, hopefully take out or at least wound a couple of battleships with shock cannon and torpedo strikes, then keep running at max speed until we're out of their firing range, then loop around and meet up with the fleet.

Now, do the small-fry have lasers, or shock cannons? I'd assumed, from the approval of my writeup and that we all have Ersatz WMCs, that it was the latter, but the GM post has the Kirishimas and such firing old-fashioned lasers. We know perfectly well by this point that lasers are next to useless, so I'd assume that as many ships as possible were refitted with shock cannons, but possibly not all of them were ready in time so sailed with what they had?

The small fry are packing Wave Motion engines too, but yes there wasn't enough stock of the new weapons so basically all the refits are using their original weapons with better recharge and fire output. They also no longer have to divert all power to the Shock Cannon to charge and fire it.

Hmm. Is it ok if we assume that some did get refitted? Maybe grouped into one or two squadrons? It would explain why mine was on a detached flanking maneuver here.

(Ships in my squadron... I'm thinking right now Division One: USS Kearsarge, USS Gettysburg, USS Yorktown, HMCS Halifax. Division Two: HMCS Suffolk, USS Bastogne, USS Constellation, USS Midway, with an attached squadron of destroyers, maybe. Under normal circumstances we'd probably be tied to one of the Kongo-type BB squadrons, but for this we're split off on our own.)

Writing reply now, but just for future reference you can write your ships destroying the small fry of the fleet, you don't have to wait for me.

I thought that was probably the case re: the everpresent Garmillan destroyers of the Kripitera class--though I don't remember what the Cosmo Navy called them.

The Cosmo Navy had the smallest Destroyers pinned right, but they misidentified the main Destroyers as Cruisers, the Cruisers as Battleships, and the mainline Battleship as a "Super Dreadnought".
So right now when our captains think they're killing Battleships, we're just killing Cruisers. and I'm going to give the Le Chevalier (the Gaiderol-class Battleship) the badass showing it deserves.

Next post is up! The Akagi and Arizona are mission-killed, the Langley is running around crying for its mother, and that Gaiderol-class Battleship is tearing the fleet a new one.

Edit: Also, without Migobueza coating, Amplified Light is... somewhat effective. Not really, but with concentrated fire from multiple ships it can mission-kill the target.

Uh bleach? Minor nitpick- the Yamato uses type-3 not type-9 shells.

Also time for me to engage the enemy battleship. Someone's gotta do it.

Whoops, my bad. Editing.
And if you're going to engage the enemy battleship, let's block it out here first, so we don't get bogged down in back and forth in the IC.

That's good to know, thank you. For the sake of consistency, I'll edit my post to refer to the Kripitera-class destroyers as "light cruisers" by Cosmo Navy crews.

This is my point of weakness--I can spin a decent yarn, but I'm afraid of overstepping boundaries to the point where I tend to lie dormant, separate from the main story. Time to correct that. May I come to the assistance of the Akagi, since the Cosmonaut Aubakirov is of the same class (well, formerly), instead of just waiting for some sign from the Tenri Tagh? I don't know if we could save it, but it'd be poor form not to try and free up a escape vector for it before it's completely dead in the water (and we can make good speed after all). If so, I'll compose my post out as such.

Rescue for the Akagi is unnecessary. Both fleets are matching relative velocity while maintaining acceleration. What this means is that any ship that loses power will retain its inertia, but will be left behind as the battle accelerates away from them.
However, the Langley does need help from Cosmonaut.

Glad I asked before I posted then. Didn't realize it was a case of "You're on your own" that quickly.
