Who would've thought the Prime Minister could scream that long and loud at you, Admiral? I had drill Chief's doing my training who I thought could dress you down. But that was impressive! If he loses the election next month, maybe we can offer him a job as a drill instructor?
Are you all right, sir? You look a bit pale.
As you may be deducted from the verbal beating you just got from the Prime Minister, he and the public aren't too happy about how we spend the special found given to us. They expected us to order new ships or invest it into R&D. As we didn't do it, they aren't too happy with us. Several journalists have recently been starting to ask some pointed questions, and there is a possibility that they will soon learn what your predecessor did. We better have some answers ready when the questions come.
This reminds me of the image campaign we started last year. It worked somewhat but has been ridiculed by the public thanks to the bad slogans and ads we realized. The impact is worse but only momentarily, and we're lucky no lasting damage has been done to us. But for now, we must endure the comedian holo-flicks taking potshots at the Navy. Lossing against the Army in Grav-ball also didn't help. This is the worst blow to our dignity if you ask the Navy.
At least we had some success with this influencer who besmirched our beloved Navy's honor with his clips. He took up our offer as he continued to make fun of us. But that stopped after we ran him through base camp and put him on one of our cruisers for some time. Since then, his tone has changed, and he is praising our efforts - even if he also made fun of our PR campaign. Still, thanks to his reach among younger viewers, we now have a favorable view of us in that age group. Which is good; a good chunk of them come of age in time to vote in the next election and join the Navy.
Speaking of politics, your lobbying for a higher Budget this year was successful. Watching you talking with these politicians of the Defense Committee and the Defense Minister himself? Truly inspiring how you talked them into giving us the additional funds. Force knows we need it as we haven't found where the money goes or why we're bleeding money all over the place yet.
Let's have our Administration look at our most significant expenses and if we truly need them. We hope to find a way to save some Credits.
Far better news came from our observer group sent to Naboo. They had the chance to speak with all involved in the battle. Even Queen Amidala took some time from her tight schedule to answer questions. To our disappointment, the fighters weren't as crucial in the final battle as we assumed. The details can be found in the full report, but basically, it came down to the luck of a kid - given he has been taken in by the Jedi Order, so maybe it was the Force. Anyway, we still did get some helpful information out of it.
Right, then there is also the question of where your predecessor put all that money he shaved off the naval budget doing his time in your chair. And I've to say, the results are worrying. For example, the new housing for retired officers on the southern continent? Build using the operational budget and without a building permit in a national park. Then we've his own villa in the capital, again paid for by the naval budget. His old friends and relatives hold several costly and long-lasting supply contracts. They are legally binding; if we can't prove they have been made by back-door deals, I already had JAG check it discreetly.
Simply put, if this gets out, you're toast faster than some poor bastard falling into a stream on Mustafa.
Hm? Oh, it is this small mining outpost on a moon full of active volcanos. Any streams there are made out of lava.
If we want to go even deeper and find the rest, we can't do it without someone noticing. Maybe we can counteract some of it in silence, but one mistake goes all to the public. You decide, but we definitely need to do something. Be it to cover it all up or help justice to come along.
This reminds me, Parlament will soon hear your opinions about the Mando threat on the Red Path. What are you plan to advise them to do?

Hiding from the corruption will not end well. Our best option is to confront it and give the public someone to maul while also looking like we are doing something.
So my thoughts on why im using Kraken as insperation:
Generally in star wars you want an internal hanger because outside of things like the quasar and to-fan they build their carriers to be in the thick of the fight because big battleships slugging it out with fighters darting inbetween is incredibly cinematic. However we can approch thr ww2 influence on star wars naval combat via the image of the flat top carrier, speciality escort or jeep carriers.
Oddly enough if we translate the weapon totals of star citizen for the Karken (1 twin Heavy turbolaser, 4 twin turbolasers, 4 twin laser) and use my estimates of being able to fit 24 to 36 fighters it actually scales extremely well with the setting and would be cleanly optimized for anti piracy and one day well suited for being a bread and butter ship for the Rebellion

Ah, Admiral, nice to see you again! I hope the holidays gave you time to recover because we are currently licking the Hutt. But we have a new Prime Minister! She seems capable, even if she comes from a poor background. Time will tell if you manage to get her so close to a heart attack as her predecessor when he raged in your office last time. Anyway, as capable as she is - the Navy she doesn't like. It might have something to do with her family coming from an all-Army background, even if she never served.
But I'm sure you can win her over in no time if you play your charms out like the last time when you lobbied for the Navy Budget. This year it didn't work because that happened under the old administration. And our former Prime Minister isn't known as your biggest fan. Rumor has it he likes to practice blaster shooting at targets with your face on it. He, very vocally, has partly blamed you for his failure in the election.
Mhm? What is the good news?
Sorry, I got a bit sidetracked there, sir.
Right, some good news! You want them, I've them!
The Republic has agreed to send a small Task Force to support us against the Mandos on the Red Path trading run. A bit surprising, but apparently, the Galactic Senat has given them a wide-reaching mandate in dealing with these mercenaries. It was all over the news, most likely to bring a good spotlight on them. Just that the joke turned on them when it suffices that the Trade Federation had sold some Naboo locals to slavers. Of course, they called it rough and corrupted individuals but come on, that was the TF, and you know it. Maybe they wanted to try out how good they could corner another market?
Anyway, I was told the Task Force is scheduled to arrive soon, a dreadnought and a squadron of light cruisers. The commander of the Task Force has requested that we give him at least one squadron of corvettes as support. Any other ship or unit we can spare is also welcome.
How should we react, sir?
Good idea, sir. I will see it done in no time.
JAG checked out the long-term contracts that your predecessor gave to his ilk. Several of them have been found to have the Navy at a disadvantage. But we can't do anything about it. The legal text is air-tide written, without any loopholes in it. We have to wait until they can be re-negotiated.
We tried to use these contracts as a launching platform for our campaign to show the public how incompetent your predecessor was. It had been hoped that this would lead journalists and the holonet-mob to tear him a new one, giving us the space to act. We expected some resistance, but that was different from what came. No one could foresee that the former Prime Minister could be so petty. Anyway, he has positioned himself as the defender of the former head of the Navy. Using your spending of the special found as bases to set you up as the incompetent one!
And the worst thing about it? It works!
According to PR, most of the public already thinks you're what is wrong with the Navy. More and more, a picture of you is drawn that suggests you're more interested in politics than defending Temaris. We need to do something, or this could brew itself into a fine shitstorm the sector hasnˋt seen for some time. Maybe we can use this Mando situation to your advantage somehow.
But enough with your … I mean the failures of last year!
I come with some good news the Navy is responsible for! Our R&D department got together with our best pilots and officers as ordered. They looked deeply at the current doctrines surrounding starfighters and found them lacking. In fact, they are outright outdated, according to them. They have asked if they can continue their work to develop some updates that would give our fighters the advantage - hopefully, at least.

Additionally, they have suggested we either buy a carrier vessel for our fighters or develop our own. They favor the last option, allowing us to fit the ship better to our tactics and the rest of the fleet. They have created two concepts to underline how much they prefer a domestic development carrier. They suggested a corvette-sized carrier capable of holding a squadron or a frigate-sized one carrying a whole wing.
Both concepts have their own advantages.
The smaller could give us a cheap way for long-range patrols with fighters. The other would provide our fleet strength in engagements outside the system. We should develop one or both concepts in greater detail.
Gained new R&D options regarding carriers!

Develop Obonus-class Corvette carrier.

Before I forget, studying the fighter tactics, it has become clear that our Aurek-fighters will become obsolete within two years. We should start to find replacements. It has still some time, but it couldnˋt hurt to look into alternatives now and be ready to buy them before what weˋve gets too old. You know, dodging a bolt before it hits you and all that. I don't need to stretch how weak your standing currently is with the public.
