[X] Why can't people just let you destroy all the stupid dangerous things! That's all you're good for anyways! Destroying everything! They have no right to claim they should be protecting you when your kill count is at least ten times greater then the entire population of the planet!

[X] "Why does no one makes sense? the Child wants to know how to fight a dragon so I tell him what I can and Asuna gets mad at me for it! I decide to deal wit the dragon so he is safe and Takahata makes me promise not to then says something about how we both want everyone to be safe? How can everyone be safe if the threat is still there? People are only safe after the enemy is dealt with so they can't hurt anyone anymore. Fighting and eliminating threats is all I'm good at so why is it bad that I do that? I'm a Tenno! I'm a weapon! I'm supposed to fight; it's what the Orokin made us for!"

If we can't explode with void powers, a verbal outburst shall have to suffice.

[X] You still don't want to talk, but let her come closer.
[X] Stupid smart sciency girlfriend, probably wouldn't build an anti-matter projector to kill a stupid dragon if she could. Well! Let's see how her smarts get her out of being your pillow for an hour or five. Probably won't even know the basics of CQC, either. [IRATE GRUMBLING]

-[x] While blowing up individual blades of grass, leaves, and flower petals with particles of antimatter. Plus disintegrating the feathers off some asshole pigeons that defiled your first choice of moping spot.
[X]"I'm a weapon Hakase. It's not all that I am, but it is part of it and not being allowed to fight, not being allowed to do anything dangerous is... frustrating. I miss the thrill and the feeling of accomplishment when I've completed a mission. Instead I give Negi advice and then somehow Asuna is angry with me. I try to find out why she is angry with me and get told it's because my advice on dragon killing is endangering Negi. So I try to protect him, how I always protected people, and kill the dragon, just to get told how I'm wrong and shouldn't fight, because I wouldn't be safe. As if all I did before was not important and I didn't know how to keep myself safe."
[X] Why can't people just let you destroy all the stupid dangerous things! That's all you're good for anyways! Destroying everything! They have no right to claim they should be protecting you when your kill count is at least as big as the whole country!
[x] You're useless. Useless as a maid, useless as a girlfriend, useless as a classmate. All you do is cause people trouble. The only thing you're good at is acting in your capacity as a living weapon, and you'd be happy with that if only you were treated like one. Instead, you're forced to sit around uselessly in spite of all the good you could be doing elsewhere. You don't belong here.
    [X] Incoherent Noises.

By Campus are we including the city around it? Campus is way to low, that's like what a few hundred people, we've probably done ten times that in single missions considering it's Nova we're talking about here. On the other hand if we're also dealing with the city that's what, maybe ten thousand people? I haven't seen Negima so I could be wrong (and please point out if I am) but that sounds right, in which case ten times the city would be more accurate, just by the fact that once we get beyond that point Nova will probably stop remembering her kill count.

Depending on how long the whole betrayal thing was and exactly what we were doing during that it could be even higher, with the upper limit being in the many tens of millions (planet is just too much, I highly doubt our killcount is even in the multiple hundreds of millions let alone billions), so with Japans around 125 million population I think this is probably more like what Nova would compare herself to (and considering her state she'll probably have some slight hyperbole but only slight), as such:
It's possible. In game, me being a casual on-off player with half-assed loadout had managed to rack up 200k bodies over the course of three years. Nova here is not constrained by game limitation, hitting things that also not limited by the game and has been active for a lot more longer than I did.

Remember Old War has the Tenno fighting Infested who infest like a common cold, Sentient who split off like bacterias and the Orokin the humongous bag of dicks. Of the three, the Sentient is probably the least numerous but from what we've seen, they still field more units than the Tenno.

There's this one guy who managed to get 1,000,009 kills in a single week a couple years back.

Yeah, warframe players rack up a ridiculous killcount.

Not that you're wrong, but you do still have to take into account the time between missions. Between information gathering by Lotus and travel time (even if they do clusters of missions in one space before moving on) that's going to be a lot more waiting between missions than us players get with it only needing a click on the map and load time. There's probably also sometimes some long term stealth or search and destroy missions they go on which players don't because it would be boring which would result in a far lower kill count over time.

Now they'll probably still get more missions done than I would in a week with my free time, due to the fact they're doing this 24/7, and I know I'm a waaay past a war criminal in that game, but it's still going to be slower than a dedicated player would if they were farming 24/7 for years. Still a monster but not 1,000,000 in a week, not even close.

Unless you count kills from blowing up a ship's reactor. Knock out the cooling system of a galleon and watch the entire ship catch fire.

I mean then if you count the entire collapse of the Orokin Empire divided between all Tenno, then you quite possibly do reach billions, where do you draw the line? There's also the fact I doubt Nova would count those towards her personal count. Good point though, I imagine her watching a manned ship burning away from her actions would contribute a bit to the whole PTSD I'm a weapon thing.

Normally at least. But Nova here is mostly assigned to the most dense or most fortified places because her job is to crack 'em wide. I'd say that made her rack the count a lot faster than the rest of the Tenno.

Just binge-read all 340 pages in a single day. Well darn. Congrats on managing to keep me awake through an entire day when I had no sleep due to sickness. I absolutely loved every single bit of this quest and am happily waiting for the continuation.

Some random thoughtbursts.
If we picked Nyx, the "Negi tries to mind-erase us" would be very different. "You want to try and out-mind me? It's a challenge!"

As a sidenote, my apologies for double-posting, but I was wondering.
How would humanized Valkyr look? Would she basically be horribly scarred from head to toe, with the only un-scarred bit being the part of her face that still has a blue plate? Or would she simply lack the Warframe "suit" that Nova has?

I'm not sure. She'd probably be scarred, but I haven't decided to which extent.

Maybe a network of surgical scars of varying size and visibility? Some are small, some are big, some are so light you don't see them and some are as obvious as the one on Ako's back. For the face have only a single large scar on one side of her face that, while not an ugly scar, causes her to keep half her face covered with her hair.

Given half of her mask is missing, the scar on one side of her face was indeed one I thought about. But since it's Negima, it must not be actual ugly scars, and have a way to be somewhat cute. Maybe something Franken-Fran looking.

I was thinking a long clean scar running from the forehead down over the eye to the jawline, maybe with little branches running of it in a spot or too. Go for striking rather then cute or grusome. Have the Franken Fran scars be on her body.

I'd imagine that something like this would be a good way to have a large amount of scars. Basically a large amount of patches of differently colored skin, either lighter or darker than usual, probably depending on the scar in question. Not really gruesome, not exactly cute but definitely striking.

Eh... I don't know. Maybe I'll try to draw something later.

On something unrelated to that, do you think the sentence "Can you even hear yourself over all that edge" is IC for Hakase?

[X] Why can't people just let you destroy all the stupid dangerous things! That's all you're good for anyways! Destroying everything! They have no right to claim they should be protecting you when your kill count is at least ten times greater then the entire population of the campus!

-------------------------

You turn your head to face Hakase, a snarl on your face. As if she would understand. She wants you to tell her what happened? Fine, you'll tell her.

"This place is filled with idiots," you start. "They want to protect me? Protect other people?"

You snap your tongue in derision.

"Pathetic. They can't do anything if they aren't willing to stain their hands."

Hakase's eyes are wide, opened in surprise at what you say, and more importantly, how you say it. You usually are careful around her; you know she hates war and suffering, and so you don't talk about your point of view often. Right now, however, you want her to be shocked, to see you for what you are and to hate you.

You can't destroy your enemies, so you'll just destroy everything close to you.

Slowly, you rise to your feet, your arms dangling like those of a broken doll.

"And if they don't want that to happen, they could just let me do what needs to be done. Hah. It's not like it'd change anything for me," you add as you raise one hand in front of your eyes, as if to look at the blood metaphorically covering it. "I could walk through this campus time and time again, and see every single person who lives, works or simply passes through, and it wouldn't equal even a thousandth of the people I killed."

"Nova, what are you-" Hakase says in a pleading voice, raising an arm in your direction and taking a hesitant step forward before you interrupt her by slapping her hand away.

"Don't touch me!" you shout, your voice half breaking. "You… I have no place here. I don't know what I should do. I… I want to protect everyone, but I can't. I… I don't..."

Hakase cradles her hand, a hurt expression on her face. You curl on yourself as you don't even know what you wanted to do anymore. This… this isn't what you wanted. Then, Hakase's expression hardens, she steels herself and she takes one step purposefully so she's right in front of you. Close as she is, you see she's lit by a purplish glow.

You've never seen her like this. She looks furious.

"Well, maybe if you opened yourself a bit, people could understand you," she hisses, before adding "And maybe if you talked to your freaking girlfriend, maybe she could help you!"

She kneels down to get on the same level as you, before hesitantly putting her arms around you.

"I... can't visualise the quantity of people you had to kill, if that isn't an exaggeration, and… and maybe that makes me a bad person, but I don't care about them. I don't know them, I haven't seen them die, but I know you. And… and I know you're not as bad as you think," she finishes by whispering. "Still… you can't continue like this. I didn't say anything because you didn't look like you wanted to talk about it, so I'm probably at fault too, but this isn't the first time I know you… followed your old habits. There was at least Kyoto, and Kaede told me something happened in the mountains before that."

You gasp as she says that. This… this and that are different. You had to take actions these times. Konoka was kidnapped! And the child needed to train! This and that are two different things. You were doing ok at the time.

-------------------

[] It was completely different, you're wrong. I'm just annoyed right now, but this definitely isn't a recurrent problem.
[] Damn, she's right. If you'd been allowed to get the dragon, it would have been just the same…
[] The problem clearly is that you weren't allowed to do what is needed, not that you know what is needed.
[] I really don't like the direction this conversation is taking so I'll just leave right now.
