[] Bait her into a counter attack.

Canon Vivio is said to specialize in countering, so I'm thinking we bait her into a counter and promptly counter her counter. She wouldn't expect an opponent to try and play her own game against her, would she?

You know, when Jesus comes back, wrecks Satan's face and resurrects the dead so all can be judged with Perfect Justice. All that stuff in the Revelations. I mentioned it mostly because of my whole Deus Vult schtick. The other choice was a Lovecraft quote about Strange Aeons and the Reaper falling on his own scythe, and god knows the internet has plenty of people quoting that passage already.

...Huh, I thought it'd be autocorrect putting Judgment instead of Jedi.

On a side note, you might want to do the same as Kyouya did and reread the entire arc from Open Mic Challenge. The opening as well, actually.

Only giving this because it's most likely been months since you've read them.

She is matching you blow for blow but the way she is doing it felt wrong.
Can you see behind the Masquerade?
You watch her circling around you, panting for breath as she gets into position.
You can, can't you? The hidden part of this royal dance.
You thoughts turn to analyze the entire fight, every thing the girl did. Every action...
Go ahead, show me.
And then it clicks and you know exactly what to do.
You're not alone in the mirror..
And here's the invisitext! It was pretty well hidden this time.

So, having re-read this, Vivio is a master of countering when using her fists, but her skill with swords is based on Kyouya's own, and she's getting a bit tired here too.

Forget about disarming her, counter-countering seems like the most effective choice. Her skill at countering is great, but I doubt she has as much skill at countering with swords as Kyouya. Mobbing her with Untraveled Road is also an attractive choice because she admitted she can't copy that.

[X] Bait her into a counter attack.

You know, you're probably going to want to invest in an invisitext revealer sometime in the future.

It's not like it's the first time I've done this.
But finding an invisitext-revealing method that works on my phone and computer requires more prolongued effort than just highlighting stuff. :V

Besides, the paragraph spacing on my phone is my Invisitext detector. The spacing is always that little bit different when there's text hidden in there, and the bigger the message the easier it is to find.

This one was harder to find because they were shorter phrases, but a second read through revealed them easily. I suppose you could cheat by making the font smaller in hopes the difference in spacing doesn't show anymore, but the first time you did that I'd just shrug and highlight everything you write from then on.

Now I'm going to do that while at the same time breaking the sentences up into individual letters and scattering them all over the update. :V

I'm kidding, I'm not that much of a dick.

Pity, I was going to suggest you do that while also cyphering the words so we'd have to crack the code to find out the actual message. :V

Masquerade {FINAL}
You don't even think about it, charging forward with your sword in hand. Your hair billows in the harsh wind as you raise your left sword, getting ready to slash. Vivio immediately shifts into position, and the moment you get into slashing distance you raise your left sword as she swivels her upper body again...

Only for your right sword to blur into action, slashing at her legs causing her to go off balance. With the small opening that you have you immediately slash with your left sword, the orange-blond haired woman quickly twists her head but only managed to narrowly escape the blade, dots of blood flying through the air as a cut on her face immediately becomes clear.

Yeah, you got it now.

"So that's the rest of your ability." You muse out loud as your opponent's heterochromatic eyes widen, "To think it'd go to that extent."

"...You figured it out." She sighed before giving you a small smile, "You really are good."

"You gave me the biggest clue really." Your mind churns back to earlier in the fight, "Mentioning Nanoha's Unison Rerise was the biggest hint, a technique that involves two different parties Personal Cards. Problem is, I didn't give you my personal cards. But at the start of the duel you used two different cards. Tell me..."

"I'm not the only one you're copying am I?"

Vivio didn't say a word, silence settling between the two of you as your question hung in the air before she finally broke and answered it with laughter. "Haha! This really is fun! Yes, you're not the only one I'm copying at the moment, my ability allows me to take the form of someone dear to me."

"Is that so?" You ask, examining your opponent's body. She honestly looked liked an older version of the young girl you saw back in reality. Sister, maybe? "Your ability must copy everything about it then, if you didn't notice it yet."

"Huh?" She replies, tilting her head. "What do you mean?"

A smile graces your lips before you do something uncharacteristic of you, "Let me show you."

And then your leg turns into a blur as you proceed to kick her in the stomach. The girl lets out a winded gasp before trying to recover, emphasis on trying as you immediately proceed to let out a barrage of slashes towards her midriff, her body turning into a jumbled mess of styles as she tries to get her bearings. Just before she was about to give a semblance of a proper sword stance though, you proceed to drop your swords and
toss her to the ground, stealing her copy of your blades as you tower over her, pointing them at her neck.

"If it was any one of the other players," You began, "Your ability would've been a lot more effective. Unfortunately for you though, I've practiced my swordsmanship since I was a child and I suspect whoever's form you're copying has done the same with martial arts. My style and your current body's muscle memory are causing you to mess up by clashing with each other, though it's not particularly noticeable until your counter shows up."

It's not your counter, not by a long shot. By swiveling her body, she was pushing more power into her legs and unleashing that power in the counter. It was something that was more suited to martial arts rather than swordsmanship and it showed. The counter was full of openings that you probably could've exploited earlier if you weren't so caught up in the fact that Vivio somehow managed to almost completely copy your style.

"I see..." She mumbled, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath before exhaling. "I surrender."

DUEL END
WINNER: Kyouya Takamachi

"Well wasn't that an exciting duel?" Shamal asks, as the crowd cheers in agreement. "What do you think Signum?"

"It was certainly a fight that we don't usually get around here. While magic was most certainly used, it was mostly a contest of martial arts mastery." The other announcer nodded, "Though it involved use of an ability that even I haven't heard about, it only served to make the duel more interesting."

"Well there you have it folks!" Hayate's voice cut in, "Now, why don't we give our two duelists a round of applause?"

Your ears almost go deaf as what can only be described as a roar shakes the entire stadium. Slowly, your eyes trail over to Vivio, who was now looking more her age.

She shrugged before you put the pieces together. Oh right, you weren't her first match of the day. She probably had to deal with this multiple times.

"That was really fun!" She beams at you, "I'm going to perfect my ability a bit more before I go against you again!"

"You better." You smile, "You weren't a bad opponent to start with. Even though you were copying someone else, I could still feel your soul in every blow."

"Speaking of..." A familiar voice cuts in. The both of you turn around to see Stern leaning against the wall, her glasses gleaming in the light before she adjusts them. "Vivio, do you mind if I check something?"

"Ah, sure!" She nods before the lookalike of your sister walks over to her and traces Vivio's cheek. "Um..."

"It's as I thought, the wound you gained in the duel was transferred over to you in the real world." Your body moves immediately to where Stern is, bending down to see eye level with the young girl's head. Though it was only faintly visible, there was a clear cut where your sword slashed her cheek earlier. Your mind briefly flashes back to the duel, the dots of red flying through the air as you slashed her before Stern brought you back to reality. "Thankfully your Barrier Jacket took the rest of the damage but..."

She takes a step away from the two of you as you stand back up straight. The crowd had slowly dissipated once the duel ended, and people were beginning to walk out. Stern sighs before continuing, "I think I know something about your ability."

"You do?!" Vivio exclaims causing the other girl to nod.

"There's no concrete evidence but the signs seem to match up." She answers, "You two both suddenly gained a cross on your body correct?"

The two of you nod as your eyes turn to Vivio, the cross on her neck barely visible through her clothes. "Then the first thing you should know is that the two of you are in danger. As you can see, the damage you sustain in Brave Duel will transfer over to you in real life. Your barrier jacket should negate it somewhat but.. that's not always the case."

Stern sighs, staring the two of you in the eye. "I'm going to have to ask you to head to Granz Lab if you want to know more, though I understand if you don't want to. We don't really know much about this specific phenomenon but we do have another person like you."

You glance at Vivio, locking gazes.

[] Head there tomorrow.
[] Maybe another time.

"Very well." She nods beginning to walk away before stopping and looking back, a sad smile on her face."Oh, and Vivio? Sorry about your sister."

The energy from the younger girl seems to drain away as she goes quiet before her phone rings. She quickly bids you goodbye before you begin your own walk back home.

It's been an interesting day.

Sweat drips across your forehead as you swing your bokken in the family dojo. The sun has already gone down, leaving you relatively alone in your training. Slowly though, the sound of a door opening reaches your ears as you turn around to see your sister with a towel and a water bottle in her hands. "What's got you so excited?"

"Heh, I had an interesting opponent in Brave Duel today." You reply, taking the items from Miyuki and taking a gulp from the water bottle. "She managed to copy my skills almost perfectly, and the only reason she lost was because she was copying another person at the same time."

"Oh?" Miyuki replies, "Planning on teaching her yourself?"

"Maybe. But for now..." you grab an extra bokken and extended it out to her, which she quickly accepts. "You want to go a round?"

The sound of wooden swords clashing against each other rang throughout the dojo for most of the night.

I kinda did, for the wrong reasons. I expected there would be a flaw in her copy of our style and making her counter with unfamiliar weapons would make her mess up.

[X] Head there tomorrow.
