Shield Hero Fanfic Rec/Idea/Discuss Thread

An interesting The summon choses things that are not humans for example I saw one the shield hero was a darlak it was as stupid as it sounds but an interesting idea months less .
Culture combat drone would be an interesting one or hell it can a bolo .
They better have enough space for a 50m tank

( The tank is sentient and some even are philosophers. )

For what it's worth, Itsuki canonically comes from a superhero setting and got to keep his power of Hawkeye-tier aim.
When was that said? I read the entire Light Novel long before the Manga/Anime were even greenlit (it was just so bad I had to see where exactly it was going to end), and I don't remember that ever been mentioned at any point.

Well, they don't get the powers directly from leveling up.

Yes, I know how it works within the story, my point was more aimed from a more meta perspective. And having the characters themselves only unlock the forms of their weapons that are thematic by only collecting specific material would not fit internally, since it'd require the characters to willingly ignore a possible benefit in a way those particular characters (if we use the ones in my example, all famous for their willingness to use every resource at their disposal) never would. Whereas if it's the weapons that only give them thematic powers, due to "aligning with their soul" or something similar, that's much more palatable to the audience and far more thematically interesting.

Volume 15, chapter 8. Itsuki makes an offhand remark about Naofumi having an ability that keeps him from getting drunk and when pressed elaborates that in his world superpowers got discovered twenty-five years ago and now kids with abilities go to special schools. He'd just assumed that that's how it was for the other three's worlds as well and apparently never thought it was worth checking if the people he was going to be fighting dimensional incursions alongside had any special powers.

I obviously remember Naofumi's immunity to poisons and drunkenness, but I had forgot that about Itsuki.

Even so, I would argue that the very fact both of those abilities were very minor compared to what Itachi Uchiha would be capable of doing, so carrying over those just isn't the same. Also, if the four summoned heroes have superpowers of their own, some of the value of them drawing their strength from their weapon would be lost, I feel. So, it is my opinion that such a story would work better if the people didn't retain any special abilities they had in their own stories, since it levels the playing field somewhat.

My initial selection for a set of people who would fit this criteria while providing interesting character conflict was to have Lelouch Lamperouge (from Code Geass) as the bow, Itachi Uchiha (from Naruto) as the sword, Taylor Hebert (from Worm) as the shield, and for the fun of having a foil who is an actual hero instead of an almost-villain, Aerith Gainsborough (from FFVII) as the spear.
The way the Cardinal Heroes world works would completely shut down Taylor's power. At best, she would get her powers back during the Waves. She'd have to hope her affinity is related to how her power works to get even a shadow of her previous ability, and it will be limited by her MP/SP or whatever else.

Internal powers will work. If the power is used to hurt others or do something like harden your skin, then the base stats and stat modifications from the Holy Weapons will negate, gimp or improve(HA, fat chance) the power.

Depending if the Geass is completely internal, rather than a connection to him from CC to where ever it originally originated from, his power should work as usual on the common masses, with certain people potentially being resistant to it. Just because the Geass basically has no counter in its own world doesn't mean the people of other worlds can't defend against it.

Itachi could probably just do everything he did before, depends if Chakra is similar to that energy Hengen Musou uses AKA Life Force, with external use of it potentially weakened and him not getting the benefits of the level system when using it.

For Aerith, materia usage would be cut off, magic Ancients use just won't work because the Planet is just plain different and doesn't operate the same way, and depending on how much support she'd need from her ancestors, she might be able to do something with Dragon Vein style casting.

Fic Idea

Title:
Duties of the King

Summary: He woke up in the company of strangers, with only his armors and a flaming sword. He did not know why he was summoned here. He did not know where he was or who to trust only that he has a duty to uphold. He had been a king once. A king of painted tables, a king without a kingdom, a king who cared but he had never been a hero before. There was no heroism in his actions. No grand gestures had he ever done. No praises were ever given to him nor songs or ballads written in his name. There was only his duty, as a brother, as a lord, as a king, and, now, as a hero. And Stannis Baratheon will do his duty no matter the cost.

Premise: Stannis Baratheon, dying from his wounds fighting against the White Walker, wakes up to find that he has been summoned as the Sword Hero. The interesting thing to remember is that Stannis Baratheon, while an undoubtedly accomplished warrior, is more valuable as a commander of armies rather than a warrior king. Unlike the rest of the heroes Stannis has actual warfare experience. He knows how to organize a campaign, how to prepare for battle, how to command the common troops, etc. Yes he will have some problems with magic and church and monsters but I think he will do fairly well if given the proper condition and knowledge on the subjects. Moreover Stannis has experience in decedent and treacherous courts which may help somewhat.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Fic idea: Ragnarok Heroes

Summary: They had perished in Ragnarok, said too cease existing, yet here they were, claimed that they were too be Heroes of this World. Yet despite those claims, they would condemn they're own father for things beyond his control. Sticking together, these 4 Human and Gods will save this Broken world.

Premise: Instead of Naofumi and the others, the Legendary Heroes are the deceased competitors from the Tournament of Ragnarok.

Adam as the Shield Hero, Poseidon as the Spear Hero, Lu Bu as the Bow Hero, and Heracles as the Sword Hero

Plot will be different, as none of the Heroes would actually believe the false accusations, and instead of forming different parties, they'll stick together (Though more forced in Poseidons case) constantly.

Crossover: Shield Hero and Record of Ragnarok

I was planning on writing a short little fic on Raphtalia's perspective as she's gaslight and abused into Naofumi's perfect waifu/sword. Real tragic stuff. Right now, I've got a poem based on the concept. Might turn it into a full fic later.

A sword is no better than the ore it is made from.
You saw a broken little girl, fearful and sickly.
You saw a broken little girl who had nothing- no family, no freedom, and no future.
You saw a broken little girl.
And you bought me, like meat at a market, to spite an enemy.

A sword is no better than the fire that it is forged in.
I was hungry. You fed me. (With the second cheapest item on the menu.)
I was lonely. You asked me my name. (With the promise of unearthly pain should I have refused to give it.)
I was ill. You treated my ailing body. (With medicines you created almost as an afterthought.)
I was scared. You helped me face my fears. (With threats taking away all you had given me at my back.)
I was purposeless. You gave me the opportunity to save the world. (And nothing more than that.)

A sword is no better than the waters it is tempered in.
Is it any wonder that I fell in love?
We fought side by side, against the monsters that took so many lives.
(But not the monsters that took so many freedoms.)
Before you, I was nothing.
(Before you, I was a slave.)
Before you, I am your treasured blade.
(I've seen what masters look for in a girl.)
You stepped up to defend our bond.
(He didn't know that the thickest chains are the ones you can't see.)
You say you didn't care. I say that you've changed.
(But am I convincing you, or myself?)
Is it any wonder I told myself I had to love you?
Is it?

A sword is no better than the hand that wields it.
I trust you in everything. But you can't trust in me. So we paint back on the crest (I paint back on the smile), and it'll be okay.
You taught me about competition. Whoever offers more wins. Everyone else is left behind. (Everyone else is left to die.)
You're only human. You only have so much love to give. (Only so much trust you gave me.) When your collection of swords grows, you only have so many hands with which to wield them.
I've given you everything. I have nothing more to give. So what happens when someone else gives more?
If you can't outcompete the competition, drag them down until you can.
Even old friends…
...only stand in the way of our love.
(I need your love to survive.)

I am a sword.
I am your sword.
Made from the weakest, most wretched ore.
Forged with care.
Tempered in blood.
And wielded by you.
A sword with no one to wield it is nothing.
I am nothing without you.
So why do you say you want to leave?
Why do you gather so many other swords?
You made me into this.
I've taken on your pain!
I've worked so hard to slay your foes!
Please…
Don't leave me behind.
What would I be without you?

I would be a broken little girl.
Bathed in blood and broken friendships.
With nothing to show for it.
Just a sword.
And nothing more.

I Have an idea:

What If The Sword, Spear, & Bow got their 1st choice for their intended recipients; instead of their backups(Ren, Motoyasu, & Itsuki); aka their #1 choice?

How would things change?

Personally I always felt that the non-shield heroes weren't nearly as shitty as the narrative wanted me to believe, but "nothing changes lol" is the most boring possible answer to your question so, hm.

I'm gonna go with all four heroes clicking on first meeting, so Malty decides that the other three will trust Naofumi too much for a frame job to work and moves on to some other evil plots. Naofumi thus doesn't go all misanthropic and edgy and eventually finds some adventurers willing to team up with him despite the kingdom's anti-catgirl racism. Raphtalia gets rescued by Sadeena's efforts to recover everyone from the village and doesn't get powerleveled past puberty. Changes from all that spiral out to taste.

Or will force her hand to escalate matters and the Melty incident happens earlier than in canon, making Naofumi a fugitive from the start.

Are there any fanfics where Naofumi is an abolitionist and/or not a cisman?
This is very late, but also generally, there's one really good Shield Hero fic on here which I like. It's a script fic, but it's still good.

The Summoned Hero Is a Historical Materialist?? Novel - Fantasy

This is a fanfiction of The Rising of the Shield Hero (the anime), except Naofumi is a socialist, an anti-monarchist and a slavery abolitionist (but I repeat myself). You don't need to have seen the anime in order to enjoy it. Nominated Best User Fic and Best Ongoing Fic in SV User Awards 2022.
