So, first all
@Rune_Fireheart, yay for update. Second of all, I've been wondering about one of the core concepts behind this RP for a while. A lot of Men-In-Black type stories don't actually explain
why there's a government cover-up of the aliens, or the vampires, or the wizards, or what-have-you. What's so dangerous about letting people know about the magical world? There'd be a panic initially, of course, and there might be tensions between the normies and the supernatural populations, but ultimately the more information that people have on all the nasties around them, the more likely that people won't die needlessly, and the more humanity can benefit.
Take the aliens for instance. Their technology would really help humanity. Or the werewolves. They'd make
really good police officers or detectives assuming there was enough LYC-4 for all of them. What about wizards? The stuff that mages could do for humanity is nothing short of revolutionary. Vampires? They'd be good for just about anything, assuming that it was done at night, and with our blood donation network, they would easily be able to feed themselves, even getting around blood shortages since they don't need to care about blood type. And do you know how much less work Section Nine would need to do if they had the local police and military helping them? It would have made our interactions with the sheriff a lot less awkward, that's for sure.
In fact, had the MIB not existed in most of these stories, pretty much all of the negative side-effects of a Broken Masquerade would have been sidestepped, since supernatural entities would be an ordinary, everyday part of modern life rather than a shocking realization. But
because there's a cover-up, the Masquerade can't be broken without causing problems, since it'll pretty much exclusively be a giant reveal. So I need to ask, is there a
reason in-universe why Section Nine goes to such great lengths to keep the supernatural world a secret?
EDIT: And with that, I'm going to bed. I'll check back in the morning.
