[x] The Spiral Academy. Empires don't run themselves, and it is here that the people responsible for keeping the Realm intact are trained. Bureaucrats, magistrates and socialites have all emerged from its marble halls, and you have counted yourself friend and peer to all three at various times.
-[x] Serving as a Magistrate, you uncovered and ruthlessly eliminated a major smuggling cartel that was cutting into your family's business interests along the Storm Coast. In your wake was left a lean, loyal and highly efficient organization of law-keepers, and the thought of your merciless gaze has criminals all across the Blessed Isle waking in a cold sweat.

- [X] Working as a minor functionary at the Imperial Treasury, you were one of the first to respond when the disappearance of the Empress threatened the security of several long-standing deals binding the various minor landholders under your care together. By some miracle you managed to arrange a settlement that pleased everyone and enriched your own family at the same time, and for this deft work you were highly praised within the halls of House Ragara.

Having a reputation for holding things together in the Empress' absence creates a clear image for our reign, and gives us a sort of justifiability to our presence. The importance of this cannot be overstated.

Ragara Makara, Really?

[X] The Cloister of Wisdom. Students at the Cloister study directly under the monks of the Immaculate Order, who go to great lengths to mould their charges into productive, pious members of society. While you did not take vows as a monk yourself, you still remember the skills and philosophy they imparted to you, and the monks may well remember you in turn.
- [X] On behalf of the Realm, you negotiated a strong and highly profitable pact with a court of Terrestrial spirits that might otherwise have grown to threaten one of your family's holdings, binding them in common cause. Your eloquence, respectful attitude and iron will were all enough to obtain grudging respect from all parties involved, and they remember you still.

[X] The House of Bells. The number of generals in the Realm's history who did not graduate from or at least attend this prestigious institution can be counted on one hand, and while you cannot express any fondness for your old teachers you can admit that they made you into a much better person than you would have ever been on your own.
- [X] As a young Talonlord, you lead the soldiers under your command to victory and glory against a ferocious Fair Folk raiding party, successfully outwitting the Fae commander and slaughtering its forces with blades of blessed iron.

Anyway, for a quick primer on what growing up in House Ragara was probably like... think Wolf of Wall Street, except everyone also works for the Mafia and has superpowers.

You were able to repair a damaged manse in the provincial capital, providing a new source of fresh water and saving the entire region from suffering and unrest.

An honest, peace-keeping, justice-seeking Ragara? Well now, that's an interesting concept. We'll probably have a fair few people upset with us if we're too scrupulous, but if we play it right, this might be workable.

My thought process is that the house isn't going to want to lose a good general or anything to a position that probably isn't going to be actively directing military forces (once we actually command the Imperial legions we're basically Empress in all but name), and the other houses probably aren't going to like the implication with putting a general on the top seat. And a functionary is really what everyone wants from the regent. They're not supposed to really rule the Empire. Just manage it until the actual Empress/or is chosen. We don't need to follow that path perfectly (see, us taking initiative), but I think it makes sense for us to slightly seem like what they want.

Also, bureaucratic infighting and non combat is really appealing for some reason.

I prefer a more combat-oriented approach. The Scarlet Dynasty is an incredibly militaristic society, and some military prestige is very helpful to gain the attention of potential allies, as well as having a clue what we're doing when he manage the Realm's legions and conflicts.

A bureaucratic-focused education for a dude from a family of bankers would be overkill, and the sorcery route is IMHO overused.

Also, helps to have some decent combat skills and reflexes for the inevitable assassination attempts. I prefer the practicality of the soldier than the martial prowess of a more devout martial artist to be our guiding principles.
One of the key things about Dragonblooded in general and Dynasts in specific is that every Dynast is going to have combat capabilities, especially if they want to have them. Especially if we become a Magistrate(think closer to James Bond), which will also likely be focused more on being able to survive more on their own as opposed to army stuff.

Personally, I'm all for being largely non-combat because the idea sounds fun and rather different from most Exalted quests, but the choice isn't as stark as it might seem.
