The light pierces down, burning painfully through my eyelids, causing an abrupt return to consciousness

Ugh.

Why do I have to be up so damn early?

Waaiiiiiiiiiiiiit, early?

My eyes snap open in a panic, taking in the newly illuminated environment.

Shit, what happened to my alarm?!

I search desperately for my alarm clock, and then my cell phone, but find both oddly missing. The hell is this shit?!

I have to get to work!

I hop out of bed, my focus on looking past the curiously blurry furniture to try and see where my belongings must have been knocked to in my fitful sleep, nearly running towards the door to my room's bathroom.

And proceed to ricochet off a solid wall.

"What the…heeeeeeeeeell?!", I hiss.

It was mildly annoying, the pain that is. Not the fact that my bathroom had somehow misplaced itself.

That was important.

How else was I supposed to use the toilet, dammit?!

I search frantically, and for the first time, I realize that I am not in my bedroom

Staring at the unfamiliar environment, I feel my mind grind to a halt in confusion as I take in the scene:

[] A small wooden hovel, the bed threadbare, and sitting innocently on a small wooden chair is an incredibly ugly doll staring back at me Fuck my life

[] The room around me is steel gray, the light the shine of countless stars in the expanse of space. …If I'm going to be getting anywhere, I'm gonna need to invest in some hair dye, Michael jackson style leather vests, and sunglasses
[] I'd totally forgotten that I had recently transferred to work at that high school in Japan! How embarrassing!Oh, what a beautiful Du-ay! Yeah, what a beautiful day!
[] An oversized oil-drum looking Rhumba constantly bumping into me as I lay sprawled on the…Wait, why the hell am I in the middle of the street?! A city of the future nestled within the modern day. Suitable
[] A spartan military bunk, tight on space, bright on lights. Dammit, get that shit out of my face! I don't want to listen to those annoying pop idols first thing in the morning!
[] A comfortable apartment, nice and well ordered. Gentle sunlight trickling through the window, alerting me of my first shift at my new job. It's a beautiful view, framed by that almost comically oversized tree within the properties center. I'm looking forward to this.
[] …I honestly don't recall moving into a castle lately. Weird. The very air thrums with an ancient power. They say a ghost once held my job. Interesting.
[] I stare at the window as a bunch of my neighbors homes are cordoned off by the local authorities.Yet another Gas attack, huh? Shit sounds suspicious to me by this point. It might even be terrorists, for all I know.

Welcome to Salt Quest! My Third quest, and also, as the title says, it's a Self insert quest. Now, don't get me wrong. It'd be a bit weird if SV were to try and control me. So here's what we do.

Updates will be written by yours truly, and the Main Character, TehChron, will also be controlled by myself. So where does SV come in?

Easy.

You guys get to control the other characters in the setting!

Each voter rolls 2 dice per voting round. 1d20 and 1d100. Using the SV Roller by editing your post after you cast a vote, you roll 1d20 preferably titled "Character Selection" and then roll 1d100. Each voter only gets one vote, but! This vote can be changed or updated as many times as a player wants during each voting phase. But the point of the rolls are pretty simple.

Whichever setting gets decided upon, I'm gonna put together a list of 20 characters assigned to each possible result. Your vote becomes an action carried out by the character that corresponds to the result of your dice roll.

The point of the second roll is similarly simple. It's your general success roll. Each voter will have to roll a 1d100 as well to determine said success. In the event that multiple people end up getting the same character to via their 1d20 roll, rather than taking into account whichever individual vote has the highest number of supporters, what we'll do is figure out the average 1d100's for each of the voted upon options to determine which vote takes effect in the next update.

This same approach will be used whenever the voted upon option for a character is forced to compete against my own rolls for an action.

Anyway, as far as the options go, I know most of those settings with at least a pretty passable familiarity. On the other hand, I'm accepting write-ups, and if I like the idea enough and am familiar with setting, we'll see about getting you guys hooked up.

Language won't be as big an issue as the OP seems to imply, but I intend to stay in character, and these kinds of circumstances would tend to make me curse more often than usual. Having said that, it just wouldn't be a Quest in these settings if there weren't a character sheet to see the main character develop and grow to deal with potential threats, right?

But that's a secret for now. How the fighting would work in one setting, for example, wouldn't necessarily be the case in another one. So how exactly combat and skill trees will work will be revealed once it becomes relevant via progression!

Either way, compared to Fate/Trigger and SPitMW, this quest is going to be very easy to put updates together for, given that I don't have to worry about getting into a characters headspace to write an update. And I likely won't be making major alterations to canon in terms of unknown butterflies to start off with. Not that I don't intend to cause immense ripples of consequence at every available opportunity, anyway.

Anywho, that's all for the introduction, good luck, and welcome to Salt Quest!

Hmm...Relevant to that setting in particular, I'd discover that the local high school's student council president would be oddly gassy, and thus make my breaks between classes incredibly awkward to deal with
I suppose that ascetic-in-training lifestyle would eventually lead to such digestive issues, maybe?

Hora hora. I'm on mobile, sue me.

You as a history teacher. YEEEHHAAAAW!

You know what would be funny? If you decided to put all the players into teams for controlling one character. Except that would be a headache to maintain.

Setting guesses:

Japanese High School: Googling 'What a beautiful Du' gets me JoJo.

Castle: Harry Potter.

Condoned home: Gas attacks makes me think Fate/Stay Night.

I did consider it, but I figured that leaving things randomized and allowing you guys to reorganize your votes based on how the Dice Rolls turned out would make things more compelling

Now those high rolls suddenly become a lot more valuable in certain situations. Naturally I'll also allow bonuses as the quest drags on that would make such an approach even more intense.

Intresting game mechanic. If we were on teams then somebody would have started a team death match, I can feel it in my head.

EDIT :FUCKING MOBLE.

These are all correct.

Japanese High School has me teach World History at Morioh High School during JJBA Part 4

Harry Potter has me basically assassinate Professor Binns and not remember how in the hell I managed it. Beer was likely involved.

Cordoned Home has me stuck in the early stages of the Grail War, teaching at Homurahara High School. This is probably the setting I have the least chance of surviving.

Oh, you will be on teams.

Depending on the situation, those 1d20's will have their values change. Sometimes drastically. Naturally you'll also figure out which values correspond to who on the cast list as the story progresses, and thus will be better able to coordinate how things go.

With constantly shifting sides that change at random, no less.

Two of the options have the possibility of causing that image to be EPIC FORESHADOWING, by the way

People, we need to stay true to the thread.

HP, Fate and JoJo are fun. We don't want fun.

We want suffering.

So, Oreimo. :V

And while i'm at it
