-[X] Museum of Freedom.
-[X] No, she could sell us out for the right amount of caps; we will form our network later. Maybe.
-[X] No, we are still on very uneven feet here and need to keep morale high, so maybe after we are established, we can do it.
-[X] Yes, let's change it.

At the time I had started writing Just A Minute Away! had won and I am not rewriting the thousand words I already wrote >.<

I would fight this decisions as there had clearly been no mention of the vote being closed. But whatever, just go ahead with what you want.

I mean I can just stop the quest if you want. No need to get uppity and be kind of rude. I have been doing this for 4 years and haven't said the vote is closed but for maybe a handful of times. There was a three day gap between votes and I wrote when I had the time when not with my family, dealing with health issues, and working. I will make sure in the future to say the Vote is closed from now one.

Dude, I said do what you want, no need to try and paint me as the bad guy to justify your decisions as GM. Whatever you put is fine.

Besides, threatening to close the quest for a comment? Geez man, relax a bit.

Oh, I have no intention of closing the quest lol

I think both of us are talking in different tones, which doesn't communicate well in text. I will try to make things clearer so we don't have this issue in the future. I will also make sure to remove the "Vote is closed" statement. I'm not trying to cause issues, trying to fix them.

Fine by me. I'll just sit and wait.

Downtown or Out of Town?

The Past: Outside Lexington, The Commonwealth.
2270
"Now line up your shot, steady now. Hold... hold.. NOW!"

A single crack radiated out from the small thicket of brushes that the pair lay behind as a mole cat entered its death throes. A slightly high-pitched voice was heard from another bush, "Nice shot, Finchy!"

"Silence, Cally!" The man next to Andrew barked out, letting out a soft sigh. Not mere seconds later, several other mole cats appeared, coming to investigate the noise. "Shoot them!"

A hail of gunfire opened up, and the four overgrown vermin died without out much effort. The man stood up. "Keep watching." He moved about halfway to where the group hid and where the mole cats had died. He stood momentarily, then turned his back to face the group. "Always make sure things are clear before yelling out or celebrating, and you really shouldn't celebrate much as it is. That said, it was a good shot, Andrew."

"Thanks, Uncle Joe. I'm just following what you taught me." Andrew smiled as he stood, nodding at Cally as Ashanti came up to stand next to her sister. Two other Minutemen stood to the side, letting the teens learn how to shoot. "Also, don't call me Finchy... please."

"Sure thing... Finchy!" Both girls giggled as Andrew groaned.

Uncle Joe shook his head and returned to the mole cats, checking to ensure they were dead before gathering a couple of sticks. "Grab the rope; we will return these to the camp and eat pretty well tonight."

The group quickly spread out, gathered their prizes, and headed back to the small camp set up in a couple of buildings outside Lexington; at this point, the Minutemen were unwilling to venture deep into the city. Cooking began in earnest as Uncle Joe and Andrew sat off to the side. "You did well today, Andrew. Remember what I teach you; you will find surviving in this world much easier."

"You have taught me a lot, Uncle Joe. Tracking, shooting, how to move around in terrain, where the best spots are to hide, and even where to hunt for food. I wouldn't be here without you; I know I wouldn't."

"I might have saved you back then, Andrew, but you have had a strength in you this whole time. Just trying to fine-tune it; need to decide where we want to concentrate our efforts."

Present Day: Drumlin Diner, South of Concord
2282

"...Museum of Freedom, it might serve our needs." Andrew glanced over his volunteers, deciding to keep his unit's name as the Concord Minutemen as they prepared to move into Concord proper. "Marty and Thomas, go ahead and move ahead; we will follow up in a few minutes." Andrew directed his scouts to move out as he walked back over to Trudy, and the rest prepared to move out. "Have a proposition for you, Trudy, if you are open to hearing it."
"Sure, cutie, lay it on me."

Andrew pushed through her comment, speaking up. "You are connected here in Concord. Would you mind sending me information about things you find out? I will also give you caps for it; more details will get you more caps. Not a bad deal and all you have to do is use your gift of gab and good looks." Andrew flirted just a bit, using his charm and hopefully a little luck to connect with her.

"You know... why not? I could always use more caps, and as you said, I have a gift." She winked back as Andrew extended his hand. "We have an accord."

"An accord?"

Andrew chuckled. "Something my Uncle used to say. A deal then?"

"A deal it is."

They shook hands and hammered out a few more details before Andrew moved back to his Volunteers, moving north.

Moving along the road, the small group snaked northwest as they crossed a crossroad. They encountered a couple of travelers along the road, but no one took any shots at each other. They continued, this time moving towards the northeast as the outbuildings of Concord began to come into view after about an hour of walking. The remains of a church came into view as they got closer, and another large building was also seen.

"That's the Museum, by the way, boss." Samuel pointed out, having grown up in Concord. "Should be able to move in pretty quickly."

"Alright, Samuel. Take your squad in first. I'll hang with Madison and hers and support you as needed."

Samuel nodded quickly. "Got it, boss."

Samuel and his men moved ahead, with Andrew directing Madison to set up on both sides of the road. They watched as Samuel and his men disappeared into the town. A few moments later, the sounds of gunfire emanated out from the city, with Andrew rocking back on the balls of his feet again as he waited for information.

"Don't fret; Samuel knows what he is doing," Ashanti said as she kneeled beside Andrew. "Man has been in dozens of engagements, joined up even before we did."

"I know, Ashanti. I hate being outside the fighting. I would rather be up there in the mix of it, but with the loss of the General and having such low numbers, I feel like I need to hang back now and lead from behind. I know Joe didn't do things like that, and it's not in my nature, but that's my thinking. Is it wrong? Does it make me a bad leader?"

Before Ashanti could reply, a hail of gunfire came from the museum. A figure docked around the corner, quickly returning to where Andrew and the second squad were deployed.

"Hey, don't shoot. It's Forehead!"

Andrew bit his lip as Danny "Forehead" Morehead came running up. Danny was barely five feet and, unfortunately, had a forehead that jutted out, which gave him his nickname. "Where is the Cap'n?"

Andrew waved. "Over here, Danny, what do you have to report?"

Danny straightened, almost becoming ridged as he saluted. "Sir! Squad Leader Moore reports that he has secured the interior of the Museum and is pushing to the roof." Andrew could decide whether to laugh or sigh as Danny took his report seriously. He was a good kid but a little out there at times. "He also reports that several raiders escaped, heading out towards the west, thinking they might be heading towards Abernathy Farm. Sir!"

"Any idea how many Danny?"

"No, sir! Uh.. maybe a couple? They ran as we came up, and you know. Shot them. Er.. Sorry sir! It might be more than a couple; Squad Leader Moore doesn't know if he got all those in the Museum yet."

"Could send Madison's squad out to stop them and get some goodwill with the Abernathys. Though if Samuel needs help, it could be pretty bad." Ashanti spoke up, Madison walking over as she heard her name. "Have a job for me, Captain?"

"Maybe Maddie, send you to protect the Abernathy Farm or help Samuel ahead."

Madison pipped up quickly, being a native from near Walden Pond to the southwest of Concord. "They supply a lot of communities up here and around the Commonwealth. Besides, is it not our job to protect people?"

"Need more people, damnit..." Andrew muttered as he took in a breath of air. "We need to protect the people and secure a home base from which to operate."

These are some fun choices, as the fog of war is fun to work with! I enjoyed the multiple plans before, but I will make a better effort to let everyone know when the vote is closed so we don't have the issue from above. I will try to update sooner, but I hope to update Friday night or Saturday to give a timeframe.

Where did Uncle Joe concentrate his time and training with Andrew?

  • [] Hunting & Gathering [Andrew knows how to find and provide food for himself and others].
  • [] Shooting [Andrew is a perfect shot and hits his target practically every time]
  • [] Terrain Reading [Andrew knows how to read the local terrain and find the best spots for positioning units].
  • [] Tracking & Hiding [Andrew knows how to find a person or beast, and it is much harder to get away from him].
How should Andrew conduct himself as a leader?
  • [] Go with how he had done it for years, get into the action himself, and lead the way! Runners exist to give information and will get to him eventually!
  • [] Go with the new way of thinking and hang back from the fighting so he can coordinate the various units under his command and deploy them as needed.
How should Andrew deploy Madison's Squad?
  • [] Send them to support Samuel's squad fighting for the Museum to ensure it is secure and the Minutemen have a safe location to call home and operate within Concord.
  • [] Send them to Abernathy Farm to gain the goodwill of the Abernathys and protect them from the fleeing raiders. Could get favorable food deals and support from the locals.
  • [] Don't send them anywhere yet; just keep them in reserve until the situation becomes clearer, as we might need them to do another task.

[] Go with the new way of thinking and hang back from the fighting so he can coordinate the various units under his command and deploy them as needed.

This is an absolute must. He's a commander now, gotta act like it.

We're the leader of a unit, so we should hang back so that we don't get killed in battle and so that we can better coordinate our men. To this end, terrain reading seems like the best skill to have. George Washington was a surveyor before he was a general, and his experience there helped him tremendously.

The last option could be either Museum or Reserve, but I'm going with Museum. The sooner we clear out the Museum, the sooner we have a safe base of operations and can devote our men to other objectives after. Splitting up the men is also a good way to get picked off by raiders.

It is tempting to go introduce ourselves to the farm, ngl. Their support and the support of people like them is vital to the Minutemen future endeavors. That said, I think we'd be better off securing our base of operations first before introducing ourselves to the locals. Solid footing makes for a better helping hand.
