A quest set in the Fallout Universe that sees you take control of the organization known as the Minutemen in the Commonwealth before the events of Fallout 4. Can you raise the Minutement to greatness and lead them in these trying times?
The World Wars, the Mexican Intervention of 2051, and the Resource Wars were terrible, yet mankind soldiered on. In the Great War, everything changed as nuclear hellfire engulfed the world, the United States no more. Landscapes transformed, cities obliterated, and radiation gave birth to Ghouls, Super Mutants, and other deadly creatures that soon roamed the land. Humanity seemed doomed, wiped out, death all around.
Yet people emerged from the ruins, shelters, and the all-mighty Vaults, looking to restore some order and survive in this strange new world. Old towns were re-established, and new ones sprung up, where people once played games or shopped as they went about their daily lives. Civilization, what could be made of it, old and new, returned.
In what the Old World called the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, specifically, the city of Boston, various groups, some but a handful, others in the hundreds, soon banded together and established settlements and claims over territory and resources. Diamond City (old Fenway Field), Goodneighbor, Bunker Hill, Covenant, Quincy, and even a few Vaults became homes and refuges for the displaced survivors. With them came troubles, though, as gangs, powerful mercenaries, mysterious institutions, Super Mutants, Ghouls, and many others worked to crave out their territory and take what they needed to survive.
From these threats, a new organization sprung up from the pages of history when America was first established: the Minutemen.
The Minutemen came about when individuals and communities came together as a Militia to protect each other against raiders and others, showing up at "a minute's notice." They came to proper prominence by assisting in the defense of Diamond City against a Super Mutant attack in 2180, and they were held as local heroes. Over the years, they expanded their influence, aiding settlements as needed and establishing themselves at "The Castle" along the bay. Their influence and resources developed, and they hoped to form a new government within the Commonwealth. Still, that dream died with the Massacre of the Commonwealth Provisional Government in 2235 by the mysterious Institute, an organization made up of robotic intelligence.
This began a downward spiral for the Minutemen. In 2240, they lost the Castle to an attack by a Mirelark Queen, making communication between settlements extremely difficult and seeing the loss of General McGann. Leadership was passed to others over the next forty years; the Minutemen's decentralized structure allowed them to continue to operate when called, but slowly, their resources dwindled, and people lost faith in their ability to respond to attacks.
In 2275, General Joseph "Joe" Becker was elected General of the Minutemen, his personality and abilities slowing the decline. General Becker worked on following the Minutemen's ideals, protecting people as they could, but the organization had shrunk to mere hundreds riddled with infighting. Uncertainty turned to ruin as General Becker and his command unit were annihilated in an ambush outside of Lexington by the Gunners, a ruthless "guns for hire" organization that had, in recent years, been growing throughout the Commonwealth.
With Beckers's loss, the Minutemen face the threat of being wiped out as an organization. Units are at their breaking point, as morale is at an all-time low. Many are ready to leave and return to their homes, leaving their uniforms behind. Thousands of lives hang in the balance, as who will come to their aid if the Minutemen disband? Will a new leader rise and unite them, or will this be the end of a noble organization?
Only a handful had arrived. Where there used to be over fifty Colonels in charge of units ranging from a dozen members to hundreds, now only four stood under the colors. Colonel Paul Marbury, commander of the Minutemen in the south, with just over fifty volunteers, had even shown up. Colonel Ezra Hollis, commander of the Southeast and commander of one hundred men and women, a leading contender in being elected the next General, stood off to the left of the small ruined church being used for this meeting.
"I am telling you we need to retake the Castle! Once we get that back, we can get into the armories, reequip, and even get our radio station going again." Major Ronnie Shaw, veteran and artillery expert, shouted out over the various voices speaking.
"We barely have the strength to support operations in our areas, much less strike against the Castle. It is suicide to even dream of attempting it." Another female voice, Major Rebecca Paine, fired back, the temporary commander of the "Medford District" joined by a chorus of voices supporting her.
"Maybe we should just return to our homes. Not many left, and we just... well... without General Becker..." the strained and nervous voice of Colonel Robert Powell was heard as he learned in as the lantern's light illuminated his withered face. Powell is one of the few survivors of the recent ambush. Powell, a veteran of twenty years, was said to have lost his faith in recent years, some even saying he had run from the fight as General Becker and volunteers were cut down.
"No! Absolutely Not! We can't leave the people to their fates!" Yelled out Hollis, shaking his head forcefully in the negative. "The Commonwealth is already overrun with all manner of threats, and you just want to give up? Where is your nerve, Powell?"
"Don't you yell at me, Ezra! I have been here longer than you and fought in far more engagements than you have, so get off your high horse!"
The shouting only intensified. You sat there, listening, reviewing how you had gotten to this point.
Welcome to Rise of the Minutemen, a quest exploring the Minutemen and the Commonwealth from Fallout 4 before the events in the game. The goal is to guide the Minutement throughout the Commonwealth and see if they can rebuild their organization and unite the Commonwealth under one banner. Lore from the games will be used, but people, events, and situations might change due to circumstances, lack of lore, or actions taken by you, the Questers. I am not an expert on Fallout lore, but I will do my best to hold to the setting and give the best experience possible.
I'll will be doing some stats to follow but those will be detailed later on in the quest as we get to them. With that, onto the vote!

Yeah been playing the game again with a bunch of mods, also trying to get back into writing. Even going to try and update my civil war quest this weekend.

I have had the majority of the update written, just have had to deal with the dreaded health issues and some issues that came up with my personal life. Things have finally settled down that I feel I can devote time to writing again.
