We could have the +1 Research tools this turn if just one more person joins in with an omake...

Or just one more person period now that Semi-Autogyro is joining in.

Or, if @Semi-Autogyro adds an omake, that's enough for the research tools right there.
I hate to burst your bubble, but Semi-Autogyro is doing straight research rather than using that as a personal action.

I do continue to wonder why many people are doing straight research when they could make the research tools to make said straight research twice as effective...

Let me fix that then. Gimme some time and Ill try and get an omake out as well.

@Semi-Autogyro

Also notably: If we get the Research Tools via your vote and omake, that makes voting for it as a general production vote unnecessary, meaning you can also change your Production vote to something else, such as the .50 Cal or anything else you think it would be important for us to build this week.

Allright thanks for the heads up. Post edited with Omake and Production changed. In the future feel free to point out like you did this time best allocation of things.

If I have any time before the next update I'll try to create an omake. Also, out of curiosity, what is our town's name?

A quick omake for my vote for Lookout Stations... that has nothing to do with lookout stations. Or does it?!?!

Lord Fluffykins, First of his name was a, sadly common, communication issue with one of his vassals.

"No, you blithering fool, I requested sustenance, not head scratches!"

"Sorry kitty, this pizza isn't for you."

"I am the lord of this land! The wise ruler who oversees all and has say over his subjects. All things are mine!"

The indignant servant responded by picking up his graceful self and setting him outside of the living room like some common dog. Oh, Lord Fluffykins, First of his name would remember this. He would have his revenge! He woul-

Alright, I'll get you some kibble, you'd like it more anyways.

..." Get to it then, servant."

Of course, as much as he loved his servants and as ingenuous as they were, communication still tended to be a problem. So even as the kibble bearer prepared his meal, he sought small talk so that he would not be forgotten.

"If you can manage to comprehend my meows, servant, I wish to inform you that I am not above pizza. Of course, if you had any delectable fish, that would be preferential."

"Good Fluffy, I'm getting you food, see?" His servant, of course, simply assumed he was asking for more food. At least he was reminding him that he was here with the chit chat.

"That's Lord Fluffykins, First of his name to you. Only the Ladies are allowed to refer to me in such an intimate manner."

"Right, keep your fur on, I'm getting you your food now."

"It's about time, blast it! Help these days, can't live with them, can't live without them."

Truly, his patience in dealing with his servants knew no bounds. As he ate his food, he decided that such patience deserved a title.

Fredric Wong was pleased with the way the specialist training centre was going, sure the incident with the pizza delivery guy interrupting his class when he was lecturing about common ambush tactics and how they can be turned against you was annoying but it wasn't anything major. He just needed to learn how to knock, a post-it note on the door should fix that problem. On the other hand, what people thought about gun construction and specifications had been a slightly bigger problem. Before he was able to get to them they didn't quite get that you shouldn't just slap bits and pieces onto a gun and until you had the ultimate gun. When ever you add something to a piece of equipment you make trade offs whether it is weight for extra ammo, production time for more accuracy, size for effective range, etc.

When designing a gun one needs to consider the role the gun is intended for and then consider potential trade offs for whether or not they are worthwhile. As you make these trade offs you also need to consider the other things that the person wielding the gun would need to do, would they need to carry the gun long distances, through small spaces, reload under heavy fire, setup the gun for firing, etc. Once you have considered all of these thing only then can you make a good gun, not a perfect gun as each person has a different perfect gun for them for each type of role, but a gun that everyone will consider a good gun. The worst offenders by far in this area were the ones devoted to making a gun look "cool".

Sure, in times of peace it was fine to spend a lot of time making a gun look good, he had no problem with it. But now they were in a state of war, the only part about looks that mattered were how well you could camouflage it or camouflage with it, and maybe possibly how much propaganda value you could get out of it, battles had been won and lost on moral alone before. So what if it looked "sleeker", how good a gun looked wouldn't matter when you were being shot at, and the amount of time spent on just making everything curved like that could be spent making another gun, or more ammo. War is not won by the best artists, but by the one who can make the better logistics train.

Speaking of logistics and appropriate use of resources, the way that they were currently going about making the Lookout Stations was abysmal. They were just making and putting up towers on whatever hill and old building they could find. They weren't even bothering to mark out the sightlines on a map. This would only lead to inefficiencies in the network where some places would have far too many towers looking at it and holes in the surveillance network in others. Which was why he was here, marking out on an elevation map the possible locations of where to build new towers. Each location on the map should have at least two towers able to see it at any one time at minimum, with three being preferred.

Four towers would be too many except in the case of places where there was lots of cover like an abandoned buildings as well as important chokepoints and thoroughfares, in these places three was the minimum instead. Each tower would also need to be visible from at least two other towers to prevent ADVENT from taking out a tower without anyone realising, this was because the towers themselves would count as important locations, though the people in the tower would count as watching themselves for the purposes of overlap calculation making them easier to deal with. He sighed as he marked another possible location on the map, once he was done marking out possible locations he would find a computer programmer to help him with calculation of optimal tower placement, computers made the calculations of sightline overlap so much faster, if they were properly air gapped and the records erased afterwards except in some select thumb drives.

AN: Is it possible for someone to make a list of all major characters featured in omakes and keep it updated? That way zedlab can threadmark it so that we are all able to refer to each other in our omakes. This way we seem more like a singular town than multiple separated existences.

When Ruma looked at the state of things of the town, well, it could have been better, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse. The lookout Towers were coming in, thank God, and the military was getting up and running in order to go on the offensive. But that was not enough. He had herd rumors surrounding the old XCOM, how they were only successful in their missions due to luck and a lot of tech. So, he was going to help out the guys that will allow us to get more tech. Better work benches, computers that ran better, and were able to compile more date at a more efficient rate, tools for SCIENCE to happen, and finely food and creature comforts that allow for the most stressed scientists to work harder and better. No wonder the aliens had a huge leg up on humanity, just the alien alloy alone increased efficiency by 20%, lest see if we can make it even better.

Drone 176/Twinkie is allot like R2-D2 at this point, only just floats around and is developing a generally R2-D2 attitude...

I'm going through the thread, but I'll have to go to bed soon so don't think I've left anyone out on purpose.
You forgot about Joe.

[X] [Personal] Lookout Stations

Omake

Jesus, those guys were happy as fuck to see someone else take my spot on setting up the barbed wires, assholes. Alright what else was there to do? I remember there being this one dude yelling what he deemed was important, yet got ignored. Poor guy. Lets see...

"You do realise putting together guns isn't as easy as you think, right?"

Oh come on! Even if putting the parts together means one has to be precise, it doesn't I will bust up the parts!

"With your hands?"

Oi! What's with the skeptic look!?

"Sorry mate, can't have you delaying production"

Bloody gun enthusiasts.

...

*Stare*

...What's with the look? Was it something I said?

*Stare*

...Could you please stop that? You starting to freak me out.

*Stare*

...This is about me working on the new equipment, isn't it?

*Stare*

Alright, alright! I'm leaving! Bloody hell.

...

"Sure, why not?"

What?

"We could use a extra pair of hands"

Wait, what?

"Hm? You seemed a bit surprised there buddy, something wrong?"

Oh, it's nothing unless you count the fact that you are genuinely graceful for my help. To which I will say what in hell are you smoking? Everyone else comes up with all sorts of hairbrained excuses just to make sure I don't touch anything! If you're happy for my help, it means this is a project that no one wants to do or that you're a fucking spy! So give me an reason why I should trust you!

*Thwap*

Ow, ok, I guess that's proof enough.

"So, ready to get started?"

Slight correction. I realized I said we need 3 to do a heavy or sniper, when we need 4.

50/4 = 3 5/15. So yeah, 4.

People currently have 3 on heavies if others are interested.

*Promotes Lookout Stations instead.*

Okay, I don't know how to do an automatic tally so I did a manual one by eyeball instead. I haven't checked to see if anyone's doubled up but hopefully this should give us an idea of where we stand. I've counted omakes as only affecting personal actions. (Counted up to Camry's vote)

Construction (250 CP)
Lvl 2 Shooting Range - 15 votes
Lookout Stations - 4 votes
Hydroponics Centre - 1 votes

Production (150 PP)
.50 caliber machine gun - 12 votes
Car modification - 8 votes
Kevlar uniforms - 1 vote

Research (150 RP)
Reverse Engineering Arc Thrower - 10 votes
Alien Alloy Guns - 5 votes
Alien Alloy Expertise - 5 votes

Personal
Barbwire around the trench [Construction] - 1 vote - 15 CP
Sniper Kit [Production] - 2 votes - 30 CP
Lookout Stations [Construction]- 9 votes / 5 omakes - 210 CP
Ammo Stockpile [Production] - 2 votes - 30 PP
Alien Alloy Bows and Arrows [Research] - 1 vote - 10 RP
Lvl 1 Research Tools [Production] - 3 votes /3 omakes - 90 PP
Adobe Bricks [Construction] - 2 votes / 1 omake - 45 CP
Alien Alloy Guns [Research] - 2 votes - 20 RP
Heavy Kit [Production] - 3 votes - 45 PP

So let's go to the videotape!

For Construction, the military-grade shooting and explosives range looks to have a pretty commanding lead, which would have it completed by the end of the turn.

For Research, Reverse-Engineering the Arc Thrower had a handy lead as well, although winning this round won't even get it halfway to completion.

The competition is much closer with Production, with building the fifty-cals only three votes ahead of Car Modification. If the choice for Fifty-Cals wins that means that one machine gun wil be completed and another will be half-completed (4 personal votes or omakes to finish it), If the Car Modification votes wins we'll need 100 PP (7 votes or omakes to complete it)

EDIT: added vote by One Armed Yeti, waiting his Research choice
