Red Origami (Tokyo Ghoul/Parasyte-esque)

[X] Invite Legion to live with you at your apartment as you live your usual life. She can still do her "offspring" stuff there and whatever and help you out too, as risky as it is to your personal life and landlord relationship to have this underage girl with you in a clandestine way. Who might be found to be this weird blood monster thing too.

2.1 Freedom
"Hey, if you don't have anywhere to go, you could stay with me." you tell her. "What is this apartment anyways? Is it yours?"

You doubted a girl like her would be taken seriously for renting and such. Once she was found, she would surely be taken in by the child protection services or something, provided Legion could act convincingly enough.

"...Yes." she replied. "I found it empty. So I made it mine. I'm not bothering anyone."

"That's not how it works." you tell her. "There's got to be a real owner somewhere."

"Yes, and that owner is me now. I've claimed it. If they want it back they can try to take it from me."

"No no no." you insist. "It's complicated. Listen. You know that you've got to seem human, right? Or you're going to be captured and attacked and whatever."

"Yes." she replied.

"OK. So trust me on this one, because I'm human. You can't just take houses like that, Legion." you tell her.

"Could you call me 'mom'?" she then asked, out of nowhere.

"What?" you nearly whisper.

"You're helping me, I'm so glad." she then, and held her cheeks. "My offspring is weird but he is so kind."

You found it weird to call her 'mom', because you still had your normal family, back in the US, who loved you dearly. At least when you weren't having fights sometimes. But you still had your dear, actual family. Your mom and your dad. Those who have been with you since you were born, brought you to school, played with you. They've been your support when you were down, and your advisors to keep on going and grow and do better, for so many years. They really did love you. You should probably call them or something one of these days.

"Alright." you told her. "Anyways. It's still risky for me to take you in, but can I trust you to follow what I say to keep us both safe?"

Legion nodded. "Yes." she replied.

"OK, good." you told her. "I hope this works out. Let's go."

"What, now?" she asked.

"Why not?" you counter.

"It's still… daytime." she replied.

"We'll burn to death like vampires?" you asked.

"No, no. I just don't like having people see me." she said. "But if you… if I'm going with you, then… Alright."

+++++

After navigating through the neighborhood to get to your house, together you get to the Tunnelbannan station - the Stockholm underground metro system, because it was a landmark that you could easily use to figure out where your house was. It was Axelberg station. However, before entering, Legion lead you over to one of the beggars that were sitting in an alley near it.

"L-legio… du?" he said, looking up to her. He then cleared his throat. "Rare to see you out in day, mamma." he said, warmly, quietly, with a very thick Swedish accent.

"Is this my new broder - uhm, brother?" he asked, looking at you.

Legion went over and held the homeless man's hand and stroke it. "Yes. He is a bit different. New. But he is a good one. Deviant. Strange. But he is with us. How have you been? Eating well?"

"Yes, mamma." he replied, and showed a handful of coins. "The humans give me money. I am always very grateful. And I buy myself nice food like the other humans. Life is good. I am happy, mamma."

"Any trouble with any… others… you know?" she asked. "Have you been attacked? Trouble. Or, police maybe?"

"No mamma." he replied. "I have been careful. Don't worry. How have you been? Would you like a sandwich?"

"We are alright." Legion replied.

"I am glad." the man replied. "And I am glad to meet my new brother. I am Fredrik."

"...Same. I'm Daniel." you tell him.

"I am going with him to another place." Legion then said. "Let the others know, OK?"

"Sure, no problem." Fredrik replied. "Why are you going? Are you in trouble, mamma?"

"No. I'm going to live with him." Legion explained.

"...Live with him?" he wondered. "Is there something wrong with my brother? Does he need help? Why can he not live on his own?"

"Well, yes… but. It's complicated." Legion tried to explain. "We're doing it for safety."

"OK. If you need help, let me know." Fredrik then said. "I always have food for my family."

"Thanks, Fredrik. I love you." Legion said.

"I love you too, mamma." he replied with a warm smile . "And my new brother too. I wish you two the best."

+++++

Eventually, you arrive to your cheap apartment, and Legion quickly starts to scout around the place to see what it's like.

"It's not much. Just a room, kitchen, bathroom. You'll have to sleep on the sofa in my room." you tell her.

She nodded. "That's good."
You then went on to explain to her how renting apartments worked. She had a good grasp of what money was, but the concept of normal economics conflicted with her idea of "takers keepers". But she eventually understood.

With several days to spare before university began, you believed it best to get everything you needed arranged done before your classes started. And aside from a bunch of boring bureaucracy, you had to get a job.

I would of picked English Tutor, but well... When you have superpowers at all creativity is important, especially if they're flexible/versatile powers. So regular exposure to games would inspire the Protag, whereas "Game booster" would make it easier to get him into a "level grinding" mind-set for growing his powers.

I'll tiebreak because I want to continue the quest.

You decide to sign yourself up at a gig for boosting people's accounts on different games via a service (SuperBoost.com) that one of your gaming contacts also worked for, an online friend that you teamed up with sometimes for League of Legends.

You also got your paperwork finally finished to confirm your stay here in Sweden, as well as abroad healthcare insurance and scholarship arrangements. It was all settled, and you had a few more days before your Computer Sciences classes would begin.

Living with Legion was fairly simple. She did her stuff during the night (she had a habit of creeping out the window for it) and mostly just slept during the day and ate leftovers of the food that you made for yourself. Or just frozen pizza. She had told you that she normally just ate from dumpsters, but you had dissuaded her from that and had offered some of your own stuff.

+++++

One night, you are awoken by Legion. Curry's voice is clear, and her blood-weaponry is on full display around her. "Daniel! Daniel!" she tells you, shaking your shoulder. "Fredrik… Fredrik is in trouble!"
"...w-What?" you reply, groggily.

"Over there!" she tells you, and points out the window to the train station below. "Humans! Talking to Fredrik, but… I don't know! They're talking to him about having him go with them. But I don't trust them… But you know humans more than I do! There is no time, come!"

Her tree of blades wrapped around you, and she carried you off out the window with her into the darkness and cold of the night in pajamas, off to a corner to spy on what was going on.

There were two men talking to Fredrik. One of them was in full police armor and gear, with a gun.

The other was in casual clothing and glasses. He seemed fairly chubby, and a just few years older than you, or in his early 20s.

"You sure you don't want to come? We have a lot of food for you." the glasses man said. "And you don't have to live on the streets anymore."

Fredrik looked around, nervous. "I, uh. Uhm. I don't want to leave."

"Why?" the glasses man said, and raised an eyebrow. "What do you have here?"

Fredrik looked to the ground. He seemed conflicted on what to do - this man seemed to be trying to pry information out of him that he didn't want to give.

"Fredrik?" the glasses guy then insisted. "Is something wrong?"

You noticed tendrils of blood start to slowly grow from his back.

"...I don't want to talk anymore." he said.

"Please, Fredrik. We're just trying to help. You're... sick. We will fix whatever is wrong with you." the chubby guy replied.

Legion looked at you intently. "W-what do we do?" she whispered desperately.

[ ] Abandon Fredrik, then stalk: Tell Legion that it's best to not intervene, because he's already fucked. Observe from afar wherever they take him.

Okay, so either they really hate homeless people or realize Fredrik isn't quite human. Option 2 seems more likely, so... Analysis time. Daniel and Legion would be inherently higher value, Daniel being a "hybrid" & Legion being the monster progenitor.

Fredrik is easily replaced and mere "offspring", yet familial bonds seem really important to Legion's family. Willfully abandoning one of her children would likely be a difficult choice, but provoking a shadowy government group is bad...

[X] Help Fredrik flee: Try to make a distraction in the dark to give him a chance to get out of there.
-[X] Faking Fredrik's death by making it seem like something else came after him might set them on a wild goose chase.

I think this would work well, but it depends on how well Legion can disguise her powers as something different. Hmm...

@iButt: What exactly is Daniel wearing, and what's the survivability rating of "Blood Offsprings"? Like could we sever Fredrik's arm without harming him?

[ ] Try to talk with the men: Attempt to reason with them to leave Fredrik alone.
I smell shady, or at least shady enough that attention will either force escalation... BUT! I think I have an angle here.
Namely, if the issue is getting him off the street, then the obvious answer is to take him to Legion's former apartment, since she lives with us now and no longer needs it: He's no longer homeless, and ideally by taking responsibility for the man we can put ourselves in a position to wrangle the legal system into keeping chubby from getting his mitts on him.
If that fails, Legion can scream, maybe do something tentacle-ish to gain attention, run away and leave ominous blood splatters and stained clothes behind, while we accompany the human duo as a sleeper agent.

@Kkutlord Daniel is wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and plaid cotton pants for pajamas.

About if Fredrik would be able to recover from being amputated, you don't know. I was your DM at a table I'd be like "sure you could just quickly ask Legion". I guess it would be fine to do it like that here too.

Legion would reply that yes, Fredrik can recover from being amputated but very slowly.

@iButt: Hmm, so much for disguising Daniel's identity... with the Write-in as is, what would it amount to? Trying to figure out if I should be more specific or modify the plan some.

@iButt: Hmm, so much for disguising Daniel's identity...
You could improvise a mask by stretching the shirt over your head and poking two holes in it lol. It would look goofy buuut yeah lol.
@iButt: with the Write-in as is, what would it amount to? Trying to figure out if I should be more specific or modify the plan some.

I won't reveal that until it actually happens. If its something you could know via looking or doing something trivial then I'd say it. But I can't do something like saying the end result beforehand like that, sorry.

I'll do as much as I can that the consensus seems to agree with though. I'll likely try to compromise your different write ins if they're compatible.

"Would Fredrik survive being amputated? We can fake his death." you ask.

"Yes. Takes forever to heal, though."

"Make a distraction." you told Legion. "Could you do that? We've got to make a chance for Fredrik to escape."

"Curry? Here. On it." Legion said.

Her blades on her back dug into her ground and she started to walk like Doctor Octopus towards one of the apartment buildings, and then threw a garbage container into its wall on the second floor, causing a loud crash.

"Fuck! What was that?!" the glasses guy exclaimed. A few lights go on in the neighbourhood in the homes. People who have woken up by the ruckus.

Legion picked up the container and then threw it again.

The police slapped a small handgun to the chubby guy's chest. "Keep the Gami under control." he said. "Do you know how to use one of these?"

"W-what? I, can, uh, try." he replied. Then the police then nodded and ran off with his larger gun to the source of the sound in the dark. Legion sneaked away, and then broke a window further ahead. The chubby guy aimed the gun at the homeless man's head.

Fredrik just looked at him.

"Don't do anything funny now." the glasses man said. "Are those your friends out there? Such a big coincidence that just now we have so much noise."

You narrow your eyes. This glasses guy seemed smart. So did the police guy, with them splitting up like this.

Fredrik was still stuck, and you don't know if you can go and fake his death without exposing yourself way too much. However, this chubby dude with a gun was way less of a threat than that geared up police officer.

More people started to wake up and you saw a few on their balconies looking around. A few had even gotten out. Legion continued to try to bait the police towards her.

Then, suddenly, Fredrik ducked and ran off, and the glasses guy tried to shoot him, but missed. And Fredrik was lost into the shadows of the night.
The chubby man then whipped his hands a few times. It seemed like shooting a gun hurt it. Recoil.

More people started to emerge, curious to see why there had been gunfire in the middle of the night. Some even had their phones out to try to record what was going on.

The glasses guy looked around, visibly nervous and frustrated. Then he ran off, into a nearby police car, and started to drive off.

"Vad hände?" someone asked another person in pajamas. You understood it with your limited knowledge of Swedish as "What happened?"

Other people started to swear as they looked in awe at the remains of the damage that Legion had caused.

Like a few others, you returned back home.

+++++

Legion, after an hour or so, returned back to your place.

"Fred-Fredrik... is safe." she told you. She looked exhausted, drenched in sweat. "I'm going to take a shower. Thanks… for the help…"

She held your hand for a moment and leaned her forehead against it, to then go off into the bathroom.

+++++

The next day, as you were out to get groceries with Legion and going past the train station, you found that Fredrik wasn't at his usual spot anymore.

"He's at a different town now." she then discreetly informed you. "My other… children have started to leave and disperse too."

"I'm… considering leaving too." Legion said. "It's not safe here."

How did they know that Fredrik was a… Gami? That's what the chubby guy called him, right? They probably realized that he wasn't behaving like before, you assume. That might be it.

"Yeah, there were gunshots here last night." you heard someone say, as they talked over the phone. "No, I'm OK mom. News says it was a bear - yeah, a bear here in the middle of the city, can you believe that? Incredible."

Curious, you look through your smartphone to see the local newspaper's site. The incident had been chalked up as just that. A bear, that got out of hand.

That was probably how they tried to explain Legion's rampage too. They were covering this whole "Gami" deal up.

Curious, once you get back home, you start to search the web for information on Gami, finding nothing at all on Google or Reddit, or even Youtube. You dig further, trying out more obscure sites and forums, eventually reaching a conspiracy thread on 8chan that had information about it.

The thread featured fragments of a scanned printed copy of a research paper by some Swedish primatologist called Karl Svensson about a new strange disease that were afflicting snow macaques in Japan, with them "shooting blood". A pair of anons brought up how they had seen an incident each of someone also "shooting blood" in Stockholm, and how the government seemed to cover it all up and ignore it.

The anons speculated that the government just wants to suppress mass paranoia while they deal with it until they can't hide the problem anymore. Or that they just haven't made a decision yet.

[ ] Try to research more about Karl Svensson's work. Maybe you could find the university he used to work at and find a colleague with that paper, or find more about him on the internet. Or perhaps, even find Karl Svensson himself.
[ ] Go to the police station to report a "Gami" incident. You won't be super obvious about it, but you'll drop enough hints to let them know you know quite a lot to have them let you into the inner circle of this Gami issue.
[ ] Try to help Legion's Gami clan organize. Try to persuade them to have more of a tight pack mentality, instead of sneaky and spread out loners, so that they can more easily deal with future attacks.

Later back home, you approach Legion.

"We have to get your offspring organized." you told her. "If the police is already on your backs, I think you should all group up to hold your ground."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Being sneaky and alone was a good idea at first. You were just few right?"

"It was just me." Legion said. "I was alone."

"Yeah. Pack tactics don't work with no pack. But now you have one. You have me and the others, right?"

Legion nodded.

"So I think it would be for the best." you reply. "Plus it can help against other Gamis that might try to attack any of us to steal our bodies."

"Gamis?" she asked.

"That's the name the police had for us." you told her.

She nodded. "I'll look for them and we can have a meeting, then. At night."

+++++

That night, you were lead by Legion off towards a nearby park, towards a part more concealed by trees than the rest. There, you saw yourself in the presence of several homeless people, including Fredrik.

"Legion. Daniel. Nice to see you two." the Gami said and shaked your hands. "I'm so grateful that you two helped me out there. Really."

"No problem." you replied with a chuckle.

"So, is this everyone?" you asked, looking at the dozen hobos here in the darkness. It was hard to see their faces.

"No. Some didn't want to come." Legion said. "But this is most."

"Alright." you said. "So, I guess you all know what happened with Fredrik, right?"

"Yeah. The police! Those fuckers!" a young woman said. "We should kill them all. Eat them. Together we can do it."

You showed your palms. "Hold on. That could work but we should think long term. It's not being together just now. It's being together as a lifestyle."

"Why?" one of them then said. "I don't want more people at my dumpsters. They're mine. I've got to eat."

You held your chin.

"Can you try to go in pairs, then? And sleep together? Have one keep guard for the rest and such." you suggested.

"The new one is smart." one mentioned. "That is a good idea."

Were the Gamis just dumb? Or maybe, just naive and needed learning.

"How old are you?" you asked. "Like, since when are you Legion's offspring."

"Like uh. A year nearly?" one of them answered.

"Five months." another said.

So they really were very young.

"Anyways. Does any of you have a good place for all of you to sleep together at?"

"This park could do." one said.

"Too cold." another pointed out.

"I sleep in an abandoned building. Didn't finish construction. It's just there. It can do." someone else said.

"Is it cozy?"

"Yeah."

"I suggest you all stay there then." you said. "If anything happens while you sleep, you can all work together to fight back, or escape."

"OK." "Yes" "Gotcha" the Gami said, agreeing.

"Hey, you guys pay attention." Legion scoulded to a few which were busy looking at a magazine that one had brought.

"S-sorry, Legion." one of them said.

"What is that?" she demanded.

"Just pretty people." he replied, and showed it. It was a fashion magazine, models in different outfits. "They look very healthy, right? Ah, so beautiful."

"Yeah. This is what I'd do!" one of the accomplices said and started to poke the picture with a sharp tentacle of blood.

"Hey!" the magazine-holder said then pulled it away. "Don't go ruining the picture, it's mine!"

"Yeah, yeah, fine, haha."

"So, will you come to that guy's place to be grouped up?" you asked.

"Yeah, sure no problem." one of them said.

"Good." you replied.

You assumed they were attracted to particularly "healthy" looking people. Which is largely the same as beauty - no blemishes, symmetrical faces, fitness, and so on. It made sense, you thought, as they'd want their own offspring to steal the best bodies.

+++++

During the next few days, you visit the abandoned building which the Gamis have dubbed "The Nest". One of them had apparently gotten a job at the local charity soup kitchen, and a couple Gamis had now the habit to visit it to eat. Some still went dumpster scavenging, not being confident enough yet in their ability to seem human.

You were having dinner together, a bunch of pizza you had ordered for them. There was a topic that was dominating the discussion: their "loves" or "crushes" - humans they have been stalking in order to infect and turn into another Gami.

"It's always so sad when it ends up not working." one of them say. "You admire them for so long, but when it time comes, they just die. It's so sad."

"I actually find those kind of people ugly." another said. "Like, something goes on in my head, a total 180 turn from really liking them, to, oh well whatever, I'll just eat them for my troubles."

"But what about those foreign Gami? Oooh baby!" another brought up.

"Those are so hot!" one said. "But who of us is ever going to infect one? Nobody! We don't have a chance. They're too strong."

"What about each other?" you asked, curious.

"Yuck! Who wants to infect their sister or brother?" one replied.

"Just joking." you replied and tried to chuckle it off.

You theorized that infecting closely related Gami was their equivalent of incest.

There seemed to be quite some differences in the personal tastes of each Gami in the humans they preferred, and why; but overall a lot of common patterns. If men or women were more attractive became a hot topic too. It was similar to how varied normal human tastes in partners were, although from the perspective of asexual parasites.

[ ] Tell the Gami that they should lay off trying to infect anyone and just try to live pacific lives.

Hrrm. Oddly enough, the Gami seem...Strikingly human, for the most part. There IS something that slightly bugs me though, and that's Legion.
Why is there three in her head, versus the lonely one that everyone else has? Even us, the Hybrid, we don't get to have a Gami living in our head...
[] Tell the Gami that they should lay off infecting non-Gami humans and go for infecting rival Gami only.
...I think trying to infect the non-Gami, while reasonable enough (Bodies don't last forever!) is something of a risk what with the rejection tendancy, while Rivals are more or less garunteed. Though the flipside I imagine is that Rivals aren't common.
And yes, it's not X'd because I haven't made up my mind yet.

[X] Infecting more people would be problematic from a pragmatic sense, but perhaps... Ask if they ever considered having human children. The children should be compatible, and it would be easier to hide them.

Still phoneposting, but I'll very likely be able to draw for the next update

"Have you ever considered having children?" you asked the group. "The babies should be compatible… right? Because you would be two compatible people, making child."

"Having… children?" one of them asked. "Like a human? How do you do that?"

You blinked a few times. It seems like you were going to have to explain sex to them.

"A male human can emit a white substance from their… Penis. The meat rod thing between your legs. That white substance, inside a certain, uh, hole of a woman will allow her to become pregnant. A baby human grows in her stomach for about eight months, until it is born. And then it takes about… fifteen to twenty years to fully mature physically.

"Fifteen to twenty yeeeaaars?" one of them said. "But that's so much tiiime! That's like.. .more than ten times as old as I am now. That's so much! That's forever!"

"...Yeah. It is." you reply. "But it's an option. Probably safer."

There was some silence.

"So, anyways, look at this stash I got here." another then said to break the awkwardness and showed a new magazine with sports models on it.

You sighed. They seemed totally uninterested in having sex as humans and were too indulgent in their teen-like lust to infect others in their usual way. It seemed reasonable, as just infecting was vastly quicker and more resource-efficient than raising a child, plus their instincts were geared for it. So much food, attention, help and time was needed to make a human the normal way, compared to just sticking your blood tentacle into someone.

"I've seen women with these huge bellies. Are they pregnant, right?" Legion then asked you, separating herself from the main topic. She didn't seem as crazed as the others. You could see she had a greater sense of maturity and self-control, likely because she was older than the rest.

"Yeah." you reply.

She held her belly and looked at it. "Could we become pregnant?" she asked you, nearly whispering.

"Your body is a kid's." you told her. "You're way too young for that. In ten years or so you'll be in good shape for it. You'll be bigger, stronger, and your body will be built for it."

"Oh. I see." she replied. "I will wait then."

"By the way, Legion." you asked. "Why do you have three… in your head. Instead of just one?"

"It's a long story." she admits.

"I… first one." Jesus said.

"Are you sure you can handle talking alone?" Newton asked.

"I… can. Yes." Jesus replied, through their shared mouth. Apparently Jesus was very weak. You had only really heard her in the cacophony of all three speaking at the same time, or some loose comments. Never a full conversation of her own.

"I infected Agnes. Human…." Jesus said. "We were together, in the head. That is why we were Legion. For we were many."

"Wait. So you were sharing your mind with a human?" you asked.

"Yes. But... winning, I was." Jesus replied. "Then Newton infected us. Agnes quickly became no more. And it was only me... Newton. No one else."

"And without coordination between the two of us, we became an easy target." Newton then butted in. "It was a mess."

"Then Curry infected us. And we... became three." Jesus said.

"But… Jesus is dying." Newton said. "And I am too. Curry is taking over. There isn't really anything we can do about it. But I don't want to disappear. So Curry lets me continue to be around as long as I continue to be useful to them - and I don't mind it, personally. We're both Gami, their happiness is my happiness. I get to feel happiness the same, their children are my children. But even so, each day, I feel myself melting away more."

"Holy shit." you reply.

"Yeah."

"So, you're multiple Gami living in one body?" you asked.

"Just the mind." Newton said. "All of the blood is Curry's. It's obvious to smell that it is so. There is none of mine or Jesus's left. As it is normal for when someone else infects. But having the prior personality remain isn't normal. I don't know anyone else who has my same problem. Like, Fredrik used to be Edison, I infected him. But after losing to Curry, Curry re-infected him, and now he is Fredrik. The same with a few other of the Gami."

"I speculate that it is because the host body is very young." Newton added. "There are more connections in the young brain, makes harder for the infection to entirely engulf. There are more corners and crevices that can be missed and go unaffected. But as the body gets older and the brain more mature, and efficient, it also becomes easier to navigate and take over."

"Wait, hold on. None of the blood is yours and it's all Curry's? So what is keeping your… awareness hosted in this body?"

"Nothing. Apparently having my own infected blood in this body isn't entirely necessary to keep my awareness in this head."

How did that make sense?

You held your chin.

Then, you snapped your fingers at a realization.

It was like normal computer viruses. A computer virus can change files, and even if you remove the virus, the changed files remain the same.

Until overwritten.

The virus itself was rewriting the brain's "files" to make its own consciousness. That likely explained how they were able to be so competent and smart despite being so young, compared to a normal human. They were probably able to recycle a certain amount of the host's preexisting knowledge for themselves.

You sighed. So, even if someone did "cure" these people of their Gami, the damage has been done. Their brains have already been rewritten to a new personality.

"I am nothing more but a ghost." Newton said.

+++++

[ ] Make efforts to write down everything Jesus knows before they disappear.
[ ] Go post your findings to the 8chan thread about the Gami and try to get an anon online research effort going.
[ ] Go report what you know to the police, in particular that curing the Gami won't return the humans they once were back, because they're already gone forever and unrecoverable (their personalities have been overwritten), to dissuade them from trying to go after the Nest.
[ ] Write in

Also, Uni is about to start in a few days. But if you'd like to do anything in particular before then, you can additionally:
[ ] Write in

[X] Make efforts to write down everything Jesus knows before they disappear.

Hrm. That state of having a 'Gami', the overwrite is slower then I thought. And the vanishing factor...I wonder what that means for us?

It's actually very fast. Jesus and Newton are just disappearing because the original body is getting mature, up from a child.
