Rebuild of Sword Art Online

I actually really want the revival thing to succeed. It would be a really fascinating path to go down and it has the potential for such wonderfull character interaction.

On the other hand it would probably destroy any chance of Asuna/Kirito so I'm doubtfull it will actually happen.

With regard to having reasons for the Silca arc I can summarise all the reasoning that Kirito should need at this point: 'Because fuck Titans Hand'

I agree the revival item succeeding would be an interesting situation. Dunno about Kirito becoming a couple with Sachi though, they just seemed like friends to me.

I'm just going to say that if Zerban has the revival item arc end with Sachi coming back I will take back everything I said about him being a mindless drone following canon.

On the other hand if he goes with the Klien dies idea that some people have been supporting then let me just say that there has been great progress made in technology to hit people through the Internet :p

Hate to break it to you fried but so far we've hit most of the stations of canon. Differently yes but they've been hit all the same.

Sachi staying dead though would give a reason to do the Silica arc beyond giving the fans their token loli. Mind you since everyone is older in this rebuild she probably is in the solid teenage years now but that is beside the point. She could easily be the traveling partner that helps him with his social isolation issues even knowing he's the big bad scary Black Swordsman. Especially knowing he's the big bad scary Black Swordsman and since Kirito isn't exactly desperately needed on the Front Lines at the moment, or even allowed, there's no reason he couldn't party with her and speed level her to a point she would be relatively safe traveling with him.

I like this idea, it would be like a scary master and an innocent disciple/sidekick.
Suddenly I am reminded of vampires.

It could of course go in a completely different direction. Kirito dies, but Klein defeats the boss, gets the rez item and uses it on Kirito.

Alternatively Kirito gets the rez item but it only brings back their body and not their memories.

On the bonus suffering round, the rezzed person Comes Back Wrong. Because Kayaba is a dick.

I'd still like to see a Day of the Dead chapter though. That'd be sweet to see.

True, but Kirito doesn't really need a Silica bait to get Titan's Hand out in the open. They're kind of after him themselves already. Now on the other hand them threatening to kill his new traveling companion, the one that reminds him of his sister, could set off all kinds of berserk buttons.

Or, he hears about Titan's Hand harassing another player and he attempts to help her out. Might even work in a Laughing Coffin encounter as part of it.

I think the rez item will work, but it won't work for long.

Or it works, but then Sachi gets ganked.

Nobody likes a shaggy dog story.

personally, I'm either expecting it to not work (as in canon) or for it to work, but sachi comes back so traumatised that she's basically Caska from Berserk. (or, as I mentioned before, for klein or his guildmates to die here)

Then again, I always expect the worst, both for the characters and for the story.

Seriously hoping i'm wrong on all counts. A spot of light here would be exactly what the story needs, to stop before it gets too dark.

I mean, the First-boss/Beater thing was way worse here, as was the black cats, it's already a lot darker than canon, and if it keeps going as it's been going, then it's probably going to end up in GRIMDARK territory.

It would be interesting if it brought back Sachi's body (and gear), but her mind stayed where it's at, so what Kirito gets is essentially a coma patient.

If he treats it well and keeps it alive, then when the game's beaten, Sachi can come back.

When the game's beaten she comes back anyways, which makes keeping the body alive utterly pointless.

The big difference between the Rebuild and canon is that no one dies in this story. That is what we are told anyway. No one is sure about that though, including us, the readers. Therefore, I believe that the revive device should be able to bring back anyone. Bringing back one person would prove to the world that no one has actually been killed. I think that it is hugely important to prove it. So, SOMEONE needs to be brought back. I don't care who is brought back but SOMEONE. That device was so wasted. He gives it to Klein and then we never hear about it again. They could have used it on the final boss, or... SOMETHING but nothing came of it.

Wait. So you know how Kirito having his own personal AI is kind of dumb? and you know how Yui looked vaguely like Sachi? Yeah.

Heh, on a lighter note, it would be funny if the item brings Sachi back (with her mind/personality intact) but as a tiny Nav Pixie instead of a human.

It means she can't do combat, which stops revival items from bringing the player-base back up, or letting you regain lost combat power, but you get your friends back.

In the form of a tiny little chibi, possibly with a minor heal spell (like pina)

Kirito goes grinding events and eventually manages to get enough revival items to bring his entire guild back, as tiny fairies.

tiny fairy hijinks, GO!

alternatively, one revival per holiday event, and each "chibi" is themed towards the holiday.

Sachi looks like a tiny little Christmas elf, Ducker is a Mini Jack-o-lantern, so on and so forth, using both international and purely Japanese holidays (you can get a single revive item from each, and Kirito wasn't being picky about it) until you get to the last guy (Tetsuo?) who ended up coming back as a tiny little cherubic Cupid, because the only holiday reward kirito had left was Valentines day.

(and yes, i did just pick holidays at random, with no regard to chronological order)
