Rebuild of Sword Art Online

@Strypgia
You mean the whole hunted by players bit, or the black cats slaughter bit hitting close after the disastrous boss raid?
Yes. :p

Seriously, I can easily see this Kirito deciding to go completely Himura-Kenshin-in-Kyoto on Titan's Hand....and being approached by Laughing Coffin afterwards with the same sort of awed respect Kenshin got from all the other assassins in the land after that. Maybe even a job offer...

Heh, a Mathematicians answer :)
Don't recognise that reference. What happened? Unless off topic stuff is a nono here...

Short version: Kenshin was an assassin in 1860s Kyoto, but decided to quit when he met a girl. Girl turned out to be sent by a rival faction to off him, but she fell for Kenshin. She went back to her group to quit, planning to run off and live happily with him. They kill her for failing her mission and trying to leave.

Kenshin is slightly upset.

He buries her, burns down the house she and he were going to live in, storms their Kyoto headquarters alone, and slaughters everyone inside. Guards, bosses, their own assassins, everyone. When he's done, standing ankle-deep in a lake of blood, surrounded by bodies, he throws down his sword, swears he's never going to take another life again, and plans to spend the rest of his life atoning. But every other assassin in the country just hears 'Himura Kenshin assassinated everyone in a whole gang in one night! He's the greatest assassin in the world! (The Hitokiri Battousai) Whoever takes him down can claim that title!'

And to keep this germane to the SAO side, I can see Laughing Coffin hearing about Titan's Hand being wiped out, and deciding Kirito is just the kind of guy they want working for them. And I'm honestly not sure how Kirito would react to that. He might be depressed enough to decide that's for him...
But that's all hypothetical, so who knows?

This is even worse than "we want that revival item" now. It's rather clear that Kirito's followers are there to capture or simply kill Kirito.

Titan's Hand has really crossed the line this time round. I get the vibe that Rosalia may encounter an Abridged, rather than Canon, fate.

What I can see here is that Klein will end up with a bad case of sword-in-the-lung. Fortunately, someone just happened to have recently-obtained a revival item.

So, how's it going to be, Kirito? Use it ASAP on Klein, or use it instead on Sachi, which may or may not have a 95% fail rate since she was kinda dead for weeks now.

Who knows if it will even get to that point? The quest reward doesn't have to be a revival item; they're just assuming that, because it was one in the beta, it will be one here.

For all we know, Renegade will drop Caliburn. Obviously, it's chosen Kirito, so it's not going to accept him throwing it away like trash so easily.

And Kenshin is so committed to his atonement, that he replaces his sword with one that is sharpened only on the backside. Hence, he "can't kill" anyone with a sword ever again.

I've not seen the anime, but the manga was very good with really, really cool sword fights.

But the quest is, is Caliburn actually Excaliber (this is how it was spelled in SAO) or is Caliburn the false sword pretending to be Excaliber?

Well, killing Titan Hands is... Too quick.

Hunt them, break them.

Leave.

Wait for them to heal.

Hunt them, break them.

Rinse, repeat.

+is morbid+

"Bounty on your head these days. Debts to be repaid. Titan's Hand sends its regards."

i heard this in the Mob voice from the abridged series.

"With the black cats gone, the debt naturally falls to you. The Don sends his regards"

Also, combat seems more lethal here, and the writer less forgiving.

I seriously hope klein doesn't offer to hold them off, only to be dead when Kirito comes back.

I could see him trying to convince Kirito to let him help. He seems to honestly not know about Kirito's reputation. Or at least not care about it. Whether or not his buddies are willing to put their lives on the line as well is another matter altogether.

How could it get worse than Kleins band offering to help and dying?

The item actually works.

And then Kirito has the moral dilema of trying to get back Sachi or using it on one of Klein's group.

That moral dilema may be what he needs to stop tormenting himself, if he decided to save a live in front of him instead of chasing a ghost.

Awww Kirito. Yay Klein! Goddammit HDA.

Some really nice character interactions this update, plus we're getting more of a look (and oh it is a very nice look indeed) at the geography of sandbox!Aincrad which, honestly, props to you for working on.

Granted it's mostly set up this update but it's setup that makes me pretty goddamn eager to see what happens next.

Watching kirito pulling off a leeroy jenkins on the bounty hunters would be very entertaining to watch, and if the revival ting does not work he is liable to snap and kill someone. On the other hand if it does work we can have lots of fun with sachi.

Well think about it. in the show, after he beats nick and listens to Sachi's last message, he starts to get his act together.

Sachi staying dead though would give a reason to do the Silica arc beyond giving the fans their token loli. Mind you since everyone is older in this rebuild she probably is in the solid teenage years now but that is beside the point. She could easily be the traveling partner that helps him with his social isolation issues even knowing he's the big bad scary Black Swordsman. Especially knowing he's the big bad scary Black Swordsman and since Kirito isn't exactly desperately needed on the Front Lines at the moment, or even allowed, there's no reason he couldn't party with her and speed level her to a point she would be relatively safe traveling with him.

I'm just hoping that Silica arc won't involve suggestive tentacle monsters...
