Re:Homunculus [Re:Monster Remix]

I swear I would discuss more but I have no idea where to start. ^_^; I guess we can discuss the cookies for now. How will they be able to be obtained? We saw one example so far, anything else people can think of that will lead to the gaining of cookies?

I'd imagine particularly devoted work as players, such as strong omake, or fanart.

Oh. Well I guess that gives me motivation to draw again. :D

I'd honestly imagine more like stuff in the game to give cookies. Then again I am new to the whole questing thing and Edro mentioned he got the idea from another thread, so there's a lot of ways that this could work that I may not get.

You can't help but stare at Jessica's stats, Protection of the Demigod of Cultivation... that sounds significant! It sounds very significant! This also proves something from the book you read last night, that it's possible to see just as much about your creator as about yourself, of course, she can see the same of you if she ever thought to do so. That got a shiver from you, if your reincarnation was described... pretty much anywhere in your description, she'd know about it. There are also her classes. You focused on them, and find that [Job-Scholar] bolsters Mind and Nerve and gives bonuses based on study, but is otherwise completely mundane and relatively useless. Mage, however, pairs very well with it, as it operates off of the Mind stat. It is based on magical potential, and identifies Jessica as an earth magic user.

She comes to the table and sets down some food, it's simple fare, but tastes surprisingly good. While eating with Jessica, you mull over the whole bond you shared with her. The bond was formed of blood, a full pint of her blood was used in your creation, and included her own magic mixed in to it, it started the link, which would then grow in strength with time. It describes it as being able to share emotions at will, not quite telepathy but rather empathic communication, and allows for the sharing of some abilities or mana once the bond grows strong enough.

During the meal, you decide on...

Choose 1
[] Asking Jessica about classes
[] Asking Jessica about her Divine Blessing
[] Asking Jessica about viewing abilities
[] Taking time to study up on classes
[] Taking time to study up on Divine Blessings
[] Taking time to finish reading the homunculus book
[] Write In (Must be Approved)

After the meal is over, Jessica starts to gather some things, it looks like she'll be heading out soon. She spots your questioning look and says she's going to town to pick up supplies. It's some ways away, and there are some monsters along the way, but it's relatively safe, "do you want to come along?"

Choose 1 (No Write In)
[] Yes, you're already feeling cabin fever and just want to get out.
[] Yes, just let me do something first (what?)
[] No, I want to get used to this before leaving (what do you do while she's gone?)

A shorter update than normal, but we're still early on so not much is happening. I will say that there is not a reference above, even though I tried to add one, it was just too clunky and obvious. So no cookies available this time for the references. I will, however, make a special cookie offer here: 2 Cookies and 1 Seal will grant an ability based on Jessica's [Demigod of Cultivation's Divine Protection]. If you can guess what ability you'll end up getting, you get a cookie that you can either save or put towards this bonus immediately.

[X] Asking Jessica about her Divine Blessing

Get to know the human.
Plus, she's our best source of rights and protection for now.

[X] Yes, you're already feeling cabin fever and just want to get out.

Going out with her gives us the opportunity to trade some things maybe. At least get a workout.

[X] Nerve

Cultivation's Divine Protection -> Ideal of the Radiants -> Stormrunner's Second and Third Idea:
-I will protect those who cannot protect themselves.
-I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.

Granting the ability to become a Stormrunner Squire, and thus a lesser version of the Three Lashings?

Actually Honor provided the abilities of the Radiants, not Cultivation. Cultivation has a hand in the Old Magic of Roshar and a part to play with the more nature driven spren, but it is Honor, even splintered by Odium, that provides the power to the Radiants.

You might notice a similarity in the Old Magic and the Goblin Market, wherein you trade something for a boon.

So, unfortunately, this is not the case.

Think more literally, the reference to the shards does not mean they are those shards or grant the kind of power that associates with them. The power of cultivation is just that, cultivation.

Ooo, much trickier since the search space is far larger and partly OC(since there simply isn't enough info on Cultivation to be a direct expy).

Tempted to just buy it outright, but wheres the fun in skipping the guesswork?

why do you want to raise nerve? nerve is magical resistance and nothing else.

[X] Asking Jessica about her Divine Blessing
i am curious and want to get to know her more

[X] Yes, you're already feeling cabin fever and just want to get out.
bonding with our mom, XP potential, all good reasons to go out. we can always finish reading later

We're going outside with the opportunity to make some deals and roll some random encounters. Better Nerve helps there.
It has an effect on your presence, which supplements charisma, and luck. Both of which are useful. Magical resistance isn't all that important early on, but will be somewhat important later on, especially as a mage.

[X] Asking Jessica about classes
It seems like classes will be very important in showing what we can do or determining a lot about us in the future, so may as well ask someone with more knowledge. All the information is helpful.

[X] Yes, just let me do something first (Look for a book on magic to take with us)
There will be monsters, we should try to get some way to help protect ourselves and work with her other than just running away fast. Failing that, certainly we could hit things in the face with the book and THEN run away.

[X] Blood
Mind and Nerve will be important, I know, but I feel like our speed and mobility will be vital as little fast moving sort that we are, and who knows? We might be able to get magic in the future that plays to that somehow.

I would like to make some guesses here about Jessica's ability. Edro said the power of cultivation is just cultivation. I know that cultivation can have to do with gaining of developing skills. So maybe this power has something to do with making it easier or more efficient in some way to improve skills and abilities? Could explain how a mage that is pretty new to these things could make a homunculous so well. Or if it has to do with the type of cultivation that refers to raising plants and similar things, it could be an ability that attunes her to such things. A few ways that could come into play, especially with what she made us out of after all. Just some ideas, maybe it'll help us work this out.

That's pretty good for how it could be focused but not so much on what the ability granted to you is. You are, however, on the right track.

@EdroGrimshell
Would Cultivation increase the gains we see when we barter for skills/attributes with Goblin Market?

is this cultivation related to the "human science" of the same name from The Water Phoenix King

No, too generic. This is something a bit more specific than a general bonus to an existing ability. It is a separate ability, after all.

I have never seen this before and thus have no idea what you mean.

Hmmm... Wild guessing commences!

It allows us to establish a sympathetic link with a plant or an entire garden. So long as we tend to the plant or garden and it prospers, so to does whatever we linked it to. So if we have plant a tree and link it with, say, a noble family, then so long as we tended the tree the noble family would prosper and grow as it does. If we linked ourselves to a garden, we'd receive bonus to our growth so long as we attended the garden. Certain parts of the garden might even correlate to specific parts of our being, like a bed of roses representing our charm or an oak tree representing our lifespan. The bad part is that once the link is established, harm to the garden also harms the thing it is linked to. Of course, that could be used for gain. Linking a quick-dying plant to an enemy, tend it and then watch it wither to curse the enemy.

That's... very clever. But not what I'm going for here. I'm tempted to give a cookie anyway because this is rather creative.

I also like this a lot. So interesting. ^_^ Wonder if we can ever try doing that later?
