[X] ...Just acted like nothing was wrong, and went to bed early. She'd had a day. Maybe in the morning she'd be able to think of something.

Masquerade time

[X] ...Decided to talk with her mother about this. Maybe she'd have some advice, even if it would be hard to ask her without giving too much away.

Junko is actually pretty good at giving advice, it's only when she doesn't know what is going on that she gives bad advice.

Whoop de fucking do, blueberry is going even further into self loathing and doing something stupid.

Come on Corin, do you really think that a best friend character with a blue colour theme and a crush on someone with a musical/dance based hobby would end up doing something stupid in an Urobutcher show?

That doesn't sound likely.

I don't know if they've watched either of these shows.....

I imagine it is because they've watched at least one of these shows. If you give people power in a setting where a lot of problems can be solved by open and honest communication then they're going to try and vote for open and honest communication.

Update 19 - Eve
[X] ...Decided to talk with her mother about this. Maybe she'd have some advice, even if it would be hard to ask her without giving too much away.

Madoka was worried, as she got home, that people would be overly concerned about her poor mood. Her parents were perceptive, as was her little brother, and even if Madoka tried to play it off like nothing was wrong, one of them would have noticed if she was too sad about earlier today.

Fortunately, when she got home, everyone seemed to have their hands full with her mother's good mood.

"Hey, Madoka!" She called, as Madoka stepped into view. Her mother was already holding some beer, so she must be drinking to celebrate something, considering how early it is. "How's your day been?"

...Well, not good, but Madoka's mother wouldn't be expecting that answer. She'd be wanting a reply of it being a normal day, so she could talk about whatever was making her so happy.

"What's the occasion?" Madoka asked instead, deflecting the question.

"I got a promotion!" Kanama Junko laughed to herself. "And a pretty good one, too. Apparently some bigshot manager resigned recently, and I was top of the list of replacements!"

"Oh, Mama!" Madoka cheered, her joy genuine, if the expression slightly forced. "That's great!"

"I know, right?" The older woman grinned. "Apparently, I'm getting a new office room too. Right next to the head researcher guy, Sengoku. Who's... Well, rumour has it he's a bit of a creep, but I'm still moving up in the world."

She took a sip from her drink, still smiling, before she continued. "Anyway, side note, apparently there's some kind of event going on for the highest levels of management? Some kind of work dinner where everyone can bring family, and the promotion means I'm important enough to get an invitation. Date isn't confirmed beyond being sometime soon, but I'm smelling opportunity here."

Her grin grew almost predatory, as she muttered to herself.

"Get in all friendly with Minato and Kureshima, see if I can get one of them as a drinking buddy, and they'll keep me in mind next time there's an advancement opportunity. Get buddy-buddy with the very top, I could work my way to the board of directors in a year or two. This is great..."

"Mama, I'm so happy for you." Madoka continued. "What area are you working in now?"

"A lot of stuff, apparently." The older woman explained. "But I'm getting an in on R&D, at least. If I come home looking ten times as beautiful in a few weeks, then I've found the secret beauty research sections and have been abusing my position, got that?"

...Oh, right. Yggdrasil's R&D department. Madoka had suspected earlier that Yggdrasil might be the supply of Sid's Lockseeds, and Kyubey had confirmed it today. As well as the fact that Lockseeds and the Drivers were Yggdrasil technology. And that the main user that Kyubey knew about right now was someone who was perfectly willing to kill anyone who got in their way, including Future Madoka.

Madoka's mother must have noticed the change in mood, because her grin vanished as she looked over at Madoka, and her tone was vaguely concerned as she spoke.

"Something wrong, Madoka?" She asked. "I don't think you actually said how your day went. Not good?"

"...It's a long story." Madoka admitted. A long story, and not one she really wanted to say everything about.

How was she supposed to describe it anyway? 'Oh, hey mama, the company you work for includes a kind of conspiracy which is putting monster-summoning devices into the hands of random teenagers and has a killer working for them who has specific reason to target me, because of something a time travelling magical girl gave me, and Sayaka is upset because I wouldn't get rid of it.'

She couldn't say that...

But then, how much could she afford to hide? She couldn't just say nothing, not now, and she couldn't just keep going like this anyway. Madoka might need someone to help her figure out what was going on anyway.

Her mother put her beer down, and pulled out a chair. "Wanna talk about it?"

"Yeah." Madoka nodded, as she took a seat. "It's... Complicated."

"I get it." Her mother nodded. "I'll be quiet for a bit. What's wrong?"

...Well, there wasn't gonna be any easy way to do this. May as well just do it.

"So..." Madoka took a breath, before going straight to the heart of the issue. "There's a Magical Girl in my class who has some sort of problem, with something dangerous that might concern them. I want to help her out because, well, we talked a bit and she seems like she needs it. And when I was talking about it to Sayaka earlier, she tried to talk me out of it, but when I said I wanted to help the Magical Girl anyway she just kind of got all... I don't know. She was acting weird."

Madoka looked up at her mother, even if she felt like it was hard to keep eye contact, as her mother mused over what Madoka had said for a moment.

"...Just let me see if I got this straight." The older woman began. "The way I'm seeing it, there's two issues. The Magical Girl thing, and Sayaka acting weird, right?"

Madoka nodded.

"I don't know too much about Magical Girls." Madoka's mother continued. "But if it's something dangerous, are you alright?"

"I'm fine." Madoka lied. "It's just... I don't know what exactly it is, but Homura- The Magical Girl- She gets scared a lot easily. I-" was important to her in the future "-Talked with her a bit and she just kind of... Latched on to me. Like she needed someone to support her. I didn't even find out what the dangerous thing is suppose to be, she couldn't get it out."

"...Yeah, I can see why that's complicated." Madoka's mother continued. "If it's dangerous, then make sure you figure out what it is. If it has a chance of effecting you, get worried about it, get help, do whatever you need to, to stay safe. But I'm guessing you're more concerned about the girls safety?"

Madoka nodded.

"Same thing, probably." Her mother continued. "Try to get her help. I'm assuming she doesn't have much, if she's relying on you. If she's as bad as you say she is, there might be the chance that this dangerous thing isn't an issue and she's just traumatised or something. If being around you helps with that, great. If it's something more, well..."

She trailed off in thought, before she continued.

"Maybe you could try to convince her to come over here." Junko suggested. "I'm sorry, this vagueness is making it hard to come up with anything. Maybe if I talk to her, I can make her feel comfortable enough to get some more out of her, and offer some advice from there."

"I'll... Suggest it, mama." Madoka nodded her head. "I'll let you know how it goes."

"Just make sure you know what you're doing, Madoka." Her mother continued. "Don't let yourself get caught up in anything that's too much for you, okay? And remember, there's always people who can help you out. Don't be afraid to ask for help."

Madoka looked own, avoiding eye contact completely. This wasn't helping her now, since she was lying about so much so her mother wouldn't know the full truth...

"As for Sayaka." Her mother continued. "You say she was acting weird because you wouldn't back down, after the girl said her situation was dangerous?"

"Pretty much." Madoka agreed. "I... Think I upset her because I wasn't playing it safe? I don't know..."

"I don't think that's it either." Junko shook her head. "Sayaka's a good person. I think the issue here is, she got worried for your sake, and tried to convince you to do something for your safety, but whatever you said in reply made her realise she was suggesting leaving the girl to cope with whatever she's going through on her own."

"...You think so?" Madoka asked.

"I'd need to talk to Sayaka about it to make sure." Her mother continued. "And I don't feel like that's too likely. But I know I'd feel pretty bad if I realised I was advocating doing something I thought was bad because I was helping a friend."

"So what should I do about it?" Madoka asked.

"Talk to her." Junko continued. "I mean, don't push her on it, I assume she doesn't want to be made worse, but let her know you rely on her. Let her know she's helping you out, maybe get her to help the girl out. If she feels like she's doing the right thing, she'll probably feel better."

"I hope so..." Madoka sighed. "It just seems so hard..."

"When you grow up, it'll get easier." Her mother responded. "Alcohol's great at helping with the stress of it all."

Madoka smiled, slightly. "I'm sure it does..."

"Let me know if you need anything else, Madoka." Her mother advised. "I'll do what I can."

"Thank you, Mama." Madoka nodded. "So, how's dinner going? And what is for dinner, anyway?"

"Should be done soon." Her mother nodded. "And I think your dad was throwing together something Mexican? Sounds new, and nice. We should probably get ready for dinner now, actually."

~~~~~
It was weird, having a dream where she knew what was happening. Usually, they were kind of a blur, and forgotten when Madoka awake. But this one was rather well defined, right now. She was standing in her classroom, behind her desk, and nobody else was around.
"Kaname Madoka, you stand at a crossroad."
Madoka turned at the sound of the voice, and reality seemed to blur, for a moment. Like television static, almost. And at the centre of the blur, a girl stepped forward. Dressed in white, with hair the same colour, and only looking a few years older than Madoka herself.
"Two choices stand before you." The girl continued. "To do all you can to protect those you care about, or to accept that there is nothing to be done."
Another blur, and the woman was closer. Madoka realised, after a moment, that she was holding her Driver now. The Strawberry Lockseed was installed into it, and acting on an instinct she didn't really understand, Madoka put it on her waist.
"If there is nothing to be done, there is no shame in it." The woman continued. "You can run. You can leave behind this battle. It is not easy, to make your ideas come true, and your convictions will be tested. You can continue to fight, if you wish, but there is only so much you can do if you remain as you are. If you simply seek to protect, then you will eventually find yourself at the whims of god."
There was another flash, and Madoka felt a weight form around her, as she suddenly changed into her Armoured Rider form.
"Or you can seek power." The woman continued, looking away. "Swear to dye the world in your colours, and pursue the strength to be the one who decides fate. If you can hold this conviction, then you can do anything. You can step forward and protect the people you care about. Become the undisputed victor, to end the conflict once and for all."
"But be warned. Once you set yourself on this path, you cannot turn back. You will have no choice but to fight until the bitter end."
The girl's face fell, and her expression was one of sorrow. Madoka stared at her for a moment, confused.
...This was just a dream, but somehow, this dream felt... Important. Like it couldn't be ignored.
But what the hell was this mystery white-haired girl talking about now? She was talking about fate, but...
Did she know about Homura, somehow?
Was any of this even real?
...Well, magic was real, so she should treat it like it's meaningful. But in that case, what was she talking about?
The only way to protect her friends was to end a conflict? To seek power?
"What... What do you mean?" Madoka asked.
The girl looked out the window, and Madoka followed her gaze. There was a forest outside, she realised. Wild and overgrown, with fruit hanging from the branches.
"Seek the Forbidden Fruit, and the power to dictate fate." The girl concluded. "Or simply watch, and hope that the final victor will allow your world to exist."
And with that, Madoka awoke.
Tomorrow, at school...
[X] Talk with Homura over lunch.
[X] Talk with Hitomi over lunch.
[X] Bring Homura to Hitomi, and everyone can talk together.
[X] Write-in.
Tell your friends about the dream?
[X] Yes. It was probably important.
[X] No. It was vague enough to be meaningless.
Oh hai, Mei!
Hi Mei!
[x] Stare at a incident happening down in the park from the roof. Is that a Banana descending from the sky?
Give it a bit longer, there's a significant part of the Beat Rider and Sagara audience in school right now so a proper power play would be mistimed around about now :V
"As for Sayaka." Her mother continued. "You say she was acting weird because you wouldn't back down, after the girl said her situation was dangerous?"
I also take back my worries. This is admittedly good advice, and Doka was good at revealing only what was Needed to Know.
Sayaka's combination of Poor Snap decisions and worse self esteem exacerbate everything else.
Mami is a textbook example of why honesty is not always the best policy.
I did say most of the problems not all. Mami unfortunately is really the main reason why I can't but she's not relevant to this part of the plot yet and Madoka doesn't know any of the things that would set her off though so we concerned about that when we get there.
And hmmm I feel like it'd be good to give Madoka a chance to talk to Homura on her own, because I feel like that is going to get the most out of her, but for the moment it might be good to remind Sayaka how clearly desperately Homura needs Madoka.
[X] Bring Homura to Hitomi and Sayaka, and everyone can talk together.
[X] Yes. It was probably important.
Also if nothing else that dream had good life advice so let's make sure Madoka remembers it.
Sorry Mai, nobody gets to understand you or recognize how important your interventions are.
For the first time in Gaim history: Somebody actually listens to the Woman of the Beginning!
Seriously, even throwing someone blind to Gaim at one of those speeches nets the exact same result.
Im gonna be honest
The whole reason behind the Woman of the beginning thing confuses me and convinces me that Sagara is either A) Views time differently, which is admittedly totally possible, or B) Talking bullshit.
He pretty much says to her "Thanks for showing me who the front runners were!"
But...The only reason Kouta even reached that point was because Sagara kept giving him powerups and pep talks. Hell, he'd have thrown in the towel if Sagara hadn't done the least subtle airing of Urobuchis "Break the rules of the world" mentality I saw in the whole show.
So really, if he's not Achronistic, then why did he back Kouta, because if he hadn't, then he wouldn't have gotten there, but he did, but because he was backed by Sagara, because....
God I hate time travel. And want to punch Sagara in his smug SI face.
