Raising a Monster

[X] Run. You can't hurt this thing. You need to run and regroup with Weston or Olly.

I have one thing to say: SO MUCH NOPE!

If running like F*%K doesn't help, then

[X] Try to access your Belief powers. They'd come in real handy right now!

The Battle Pt. 2
Hunger.

That is all I know.

That is all there is.

The unending, unceasing, all-consuming
need to feed.

It will devour all, including me.

Until there is nothing left.

But…there
was nothing before.

Nothing but a large, black expanse.

With nothing to eat.

There were others. Others like me. I tried to feed on them.

I failed. They hurt me.

I got hungrier.

Nothing to eat.

Nothing to feed on.

The Hunger nearly consumed me.

Then, one of my kin left.

They went somewhere.

Somewhere with things to consume.

The Hunger told me.

It forced me here.

When I came, I found things.

They gathered around me. They prodded me.

I was hungry.

I ate many of them.

The Hunger was soothed…but not for long.

The ones that were left, they brought more.

I ate more and more, but the Hunger was only ever soothed.

It will never go away.

It is apart of me.

I can only sedate it.

Things were like that. The things gave me other things to eat. Things like them, sometimes smaller or larger. I gave them a fraction of my Hunger that they may understand why they must bring me more.

The gnawing pain from the Hunger began to grow.

From a dull rumble, to a growl.

I started to need more.

More to eat.

To consume.

Then, IT came.

The THING NOT LIKE THE OTHER THINGS.

IT placed SOMETHING on me.

IT BURNS me.

The Hunger, it's roaring now. It's calling.

Feed….

I will feed upon THE THING THAT DID THIS TO ME.

Howard: RUN BOY RUN!: 5 + 10 (DODGE!) + 25 (Ana Support) (Belief Activated due to high danger) + 20 (Tranquil Fury) + 25 (Zen) = 85

Ghaiogrilb: Eat…Human…: 12 + 50 (Feed) + 30 (Eldritch) + 45 (Tendrils) – 40 (Amulet) = 97

The THING tries to run.

IT can't run.

I can TASTE ITS footsteps.

I swat at it with an appendage that grew after I ate my third small thing.

I can taste the fear upon its fle—IT'S GONE!

I search for it. It slid underneath my appendage through a spot too small for normal things.

HOW?

I taste the air, feeling my kin upon the breeze.

They interfere?

Why do—

Weston: Ranged Flank Shot: 44 + 10 (Flank) + 10 (Training) + 15 (Weaponry) + 40 (Annihilator) – 45 (Tendrils) = 64

Olly: Flank Claw Attack: 9 + 20 (Claws) – 10 (Lamia) = 19

Two more things come from my sides.

One hits me with small balls that do no harm.

The other, a snake-thing, tries to cut into my flesh.

Useless.

Both are swatted away by appendages that grew after my sixth small thing.

They are not eaten. They are too fast. But it is only a matter of—

(Olly – 20 Health, Weston – 15 Health)

Ghaiogrilb: Feed…: 55 + 30 (Eldritch) + 50 (Gaze) – 40 (Amulet) = 95

…The Hunger calls.

I look towards an object.

The Hunger wills itself into it.

It devours it.

It is slightly sated, and the BURN from the THING isn't as bad.

(Regained 20 Hunger and 35 Stability)

Weston: Point Blank Shot: 50 + 50 (Gaze) + 10 (Training) + 15 (Weaponry) + 40 (Annihilator) – 45 (Tendrils) = 120

Olly: 12 + 20 (Claws) – 10 (Lamia) + 50 (Gaze) = 72

The two things come again.

They get close while I am feeding.

My movements are slow and stunted.

The thing reaches me first.

It places a metal object right above where the other object is.

There is a loud sound then—PAIN!!!

The pellets HURT this time!

It retreats, as the snake-thing strikes again.

Its claws hurt, but not as much as the previous thing's attack.

The snake-thing retreats.

I am injured.

I hurt.

They will PAY!

(Lost 55 Stability and 35 Hunger)

Well, that could've gone better.

You give your body a quick once over to ensure you haven't been harmed.

Head? Still attached.

Torso and organs? Completely fine.

Arms and legs? Your legs are fine, but both of your elbows have lost some skin. There are teeth marks that indicate the mouths got you. Damn, you were hoping to avoid harm when you slid under the tendril. The wounds aren't deep, but they could slow you down. Best to end this battle as quickly as you can.

(Lost 5 Health)

You quickly assess the situation by the Eldritch. The Amulet is still constraining it with its chains, slowing its movements. However, it is still very dangerous. The completely disintegrated wall to your left proves that. What was once part of a stadium has been turned into a gaping, black hole filled with left over pews and debris. You saw it do that with merely a glance at the wall, meaning it doesn't need to touch you to deal damage. On top of that, its tendrils, though large, are surprisingly fast and able to defend the main body relatively well. You won't be able to accomplish much if you charge in recklessly.

So far, out of the three of you, Weston is obviously your main damage dealer. Your boss is currently reloading his gun while dashing over and under swipes from the monster's tendrils. He had tried to blast it from afar to avoid any possible danger. However, while a shotgun is just as useful at long range, its purpose is to be used when one is up close and personal with the enemy. Seeing his first shot hardly affected the monster, he jumped forward and blasted it at point blank range. That made it flinch and you saw some of its flesh slough off onto the floor. Weston doesn't seem the least bit tired either.

Good, he'll be invaluable going forward.

In contrast, Olly was only above you in terms of contribution. While she had revealed her true form, it didn't mean much against the Eldritch monster. She nearly took the full force of a tendril swipe when her first attempt failed. Her second was more successful, allowing her to get away with no significant damage.

She's not a liability, but you're not sure what she could do to help here.

Then again, having extra hands does help immensely.

You furrow your brow in concentration while trying to form a plan of attack. A gaze of death comes your way, forcing you to think on the move. Your heart is beating steadily, your mind is clear, and your breathing is calm.

The foe before you is strong.

But, with skill, fortitude, and a whole lot of luck, you can beat them.

Current Situation:

You: Farthest from the creature, with its tendrils trying to swipe you or flatten you. Health: 95/100, Belief: Active, Actions: 1

Weston: To your left, closest to the creature. Trying to take a good shot. Health: 185/200, Belief: Not Active, Actions: 1

Olly: To your right, at mid-range compared to the creature. Trying to find a clear attack vector. Health: 140/150, Actions: 1

Ghaiogrilb: Hurting, Angry, planning something. Stability: 480/1,500, Hunger: 35/100, Actions: 2

Ghaiogrilb is incurring Eternal Hunger Penalties: Will Lose 20 Stability at the start of the next Update.

What is your plan?

[] Regroup with Weston. Together, you should be able to deal some damage. (Add your roll to Weston's)

[] Regroup with Olly. She'll need your support for this. (Add your roll to Olly's)

[] Go it alone. Your Belief is going. You should be able to damage it on your own. (Solo)
  • [] Your Plan?

[] Avoid it. You need to conserve your strength and see what it does. (+15 to your roll next turn)

[] Create a distraction. It seemed angry at you. You should be able to get its attention. (+15 to Ghaiogrilb's roll against you, but +20 to Allies' attack rolls)

[] Find a place to hide. You need to hide yourself and attack when you have a chance. (If successful, +1 Action for next Turn and +15 to next Attack)

[] Write in….

Alright, now that the battle proper has begun, I'm adding a bit more to it.

Basically, you can take Offensive or Defensive/Supporting Actions, each of which confers bonuses and otherwise. For the write in, the bonuses will be based on exactly what you guy's do.

That's about it.

[X] Create a distraction. It seemed angry at you. You should be able to get its attention. (+15 to Ghaiogrilb's roll against you, but +20 to Allies' attack rolls)

seems like mechanically to be the smart choice

Ya' know, ever since it was revealed to us that Chester Harrowmont had/has a crush on Anastasia Craft, I've been wanting to see a cute and fluffy image of the two together. Is there anyone here with the skill, willingness and ability to survive cuteness levels strong enough to KILL to go through with it? Please?

Also, just thought of something; Howard Craft's reaction to the fact that his neighbor's son is crushing on his daughter is most likely to be hilarious! Though probably not as much as Anastasia's (considering that she was apparently confused as to why the boy would try to get her out of trouble).

If anyone is ever willing to draw fanart of the things I write, then I'll consider myself as made it as a QM.
