Raising a Monster

Info dump: Legends
Humans can't use Magic naturally.

Monsters can't use Belief naturally.

These two species evolved with completely different methods of survival. You would think that these two opposing forces would never be able to work together.

You would be wrong.

Through the signing of a Pact, both Human and Monster can gain access to that which is forbidden to them. It is not something taken lightly, however. For both Monster and Human put their lives on the line to accomplish the things their species alone could never hope to do. Many have taken this Pact, both myth and mortal alike. Some for the promise of power, the ability to bend Reality to your whim. Others for more benign reasons. Love, grief, revenge, greed. All have staked their lives on a union between the two species.

Many have died.

Others however, they become something...more.

As time goes on, Man and Monster seem to form a type of bond. The level of this bond varies; some have fallen in love and married, even though crossbreeds have been proven impossible. Others have merely become rather close friends that will fight and die with each other. When this happens, both parties undergo a...transformation if you will.

They stop being Human and Monster.

The Magical power of a Monster begins to fuse with the willful power of Belief.

Some call them Gods, though this is an incorrect title. Gods are in entirely different ballpark.

Most call Legends.

Records of these great beings have been lost to time. Some accounts aren't even sure if what they saw was true or not. But the major thing that makes Legends so rare, is that there are so many of them and they keep changing.

They run the gamut from a giant man striking an anvil that causes thunder, while a Kitsune hands him the lightning required to cause said thunder, to a monstrous woman riding on a worm as long as the earth, causing earthquakes wherever she goes.

Whether these tales are true or not remains to be seen.

Just a little something I wanted to add to improve the Lore of this world.

Day 17/ The Visitor Just made a Big Fucking Mistake!
Keep her Talking: 87 + 10 (Orator) = 97 High Success

You're plan almost works.

Key word: almost.

You look at the woman, mind going through all the different things you could say to keep her busy. You're not sure about the Dullahan, but if Ana could get a bead on her it would be enough. You briefly entertain the idea of intervening yourself, but think better of it. You would probably get sliced up by that knight before you're even able to get close. Even now, it stands coiled and ready to strike at its assumed master's command.

There's no easy way to go about this, so you decide to try out the only thing you can think of.

"Soooooo, what's a cutie like you doing in a place like this?"

….

Stupid! Like that would actually—

"Wait, did you just say I was...cute?" the woman actually sounds genuinely surprised. In fact, when you look at her closely, you think you see her….blushing? "No one's ever called me that before. Most men just see me as some sort of ball buster and stay away from me."

….Like you were saying, you are a genius and a smooth talker! "Well clearly they have no appreciation for one such as yourself." You were laying it on a bit thick you'll admit. Though she is quite attractive. At least to you anyway. But while you speak, you glance to your side and are relieved to see that your daughter is currently stalking around the sofa to flank the newcomers.

Though it does slightly bother you how silent she can move when she wants to, it does not stop you from focusing on your task, "And I'm sure, that if they just got to know you they would love your personality! In fact, they would love everything about you!"

You're not sure if you have any actual charm, but it is certain it is working on whoever this is. Her hands are on her cheeks and she keep shaking her head at your compliments, "Oh stop it! Do you really think so?"

"Absolutely! They would all fall at your knees when you tell them about your...uh," crap, you're running of material. Where's Ana?

Ana Sneak Attack: 23 + 15 (Physical Augment) + 15 (Telepathy/Telekinesis) + 20 (Biological Augment) + 10 (Energy Ball) + 5 (Level 2) - 10 (Armored Opponent) + 15 (Howard Distraction) - 30 (???) - 20 (???) = 41 Success

Just when you think the woman might get wise to your schemes, your daughter dashes into the fray. She's a blur in the air, moving faster than your eyes can see. One hand is outstretched, turned into a wicked looking claw, while the other holds an ball of crackling energy. All of it is aimed at the woman you've been talking to.

She's just passing by the Dullahan—

Dullahan's Perception: 98 = No Sneak Attack Bonus

Dullahan's Attack: 33 - 10 (Eldritch Opponent) + 15 (???) +10 (???) + 10 (Armed) + 15 (???) = 73 High Success

When it fucking grabs her arm out of mid air.

You're speechless. How did it move that fast? How did it see her? You didn't even see her, or it for that matter, move?!

It hold Anastasia in one arm, as she thrashes in its grip. She's snarling like a trapped beast, trying to bring her clawed hand around to swipe at the Dullahan. But the undead creature seems nonplussed by her attempts at escape. Any time her claws swipe against its armor, they slide across it dealing no damage.

The woman is staring at your thrashing daughter, her eyes wide with how close she was to losing her life.

??? Roll: 1 Crit Fail

Then you see them narrow with rage. Her hand reaches back, and you're moving before you know it.

They're can't be more than five feet in front of you, yet somehow you don't make it.

"You insolent, little shit!"

You hear the slap of flesh on flesh.

Time seems to slow down. You stand in the middle of the hallway.

In front of you is an Undead Monster that holds your sweet, little girl that you picked up in that basket all those weeks ago. They seem like years now, as you stare at the person who just slapped her across the face.

Who just slapped your daughter.

Who just hurt your Anastasia.

Who just made the biggest fucking mistake of her life.

You feel something well up inside of you. It's the same thing you felt that day when Volkar insulted Anastasia to your face. But it's stronger this time.

It's…

[] Red hot, burning rage. An inferno that will burn away any and all who dare to hurt your daughter. Right now, that's the bitch who dared to strike your beautiful Ana. (Belief Power: Raging Inferno)

[] Ice cold, calm rage. You're not sure why, but you feel calmer than you have in years. Oh you're angry. No doubt about that. But it's the calm kind of anger. The kind where you can think of nothing, but how to most efficiently destroy the bitch standing in front of you and her pet monster. (Belief Power: Tranquil Fury)

[] Write in…(Subject to QM Veto, and different Belief Powers)

Basically, the roll for the woman was to see how she reacted to Ana trying to attack her. A high roll would've meant she was calm about it, and Howard would've had to step in and fight.

But she got a 1.

That means she took the most irrational and dumbest option.

Which was to slap Anastasia.

Now as for the vote, this is essentially the first time Howard has ever gotten truly angry. He's been mad before, but this is pure fucking rage/Papa Bear mode right now. Since this is the first time he has ever been this mad, I wanted to let you guys decide how he let's it out.

It will have an effect on the story. Primarily, what Howard does when people make him mad (i.e. start to grind his teeth, give a creepy smile, ect.) and how his Belief is shown in battle.

Is it a Raging Inferno, that others throw their kindling into to add to the flames?

Or is it a Icy Fury, that others will make colder so that their enemies may freeze?

Or do you have a better idea?

I'll leave the Vote until tomorrow at 2:00 and check to see if a consensus is reached. If it isn't, I give it another 3 hours. If it still isn't I'll roll between the highest choices.

As always, criticism, questions, and otherwise are welcome.

*Vote Closed*

Edit: Realized I forgot about Ana's +5 because of her Level. Though the Dullahan still beat her out by a good margin.

Belief Types
Thank you.
And I like the idea of berserkergang so thats a thing I can get behind.
However, I interpreted from the post that being a raging inferno or a tranquil fury would lead to fire or ice magic influence. I wrote that hoping for a sort of aura of destruction type thing. You know, Howard gets mad and things start to break. Objects, magic, people, resolve...
But being a berserker is not too bad.

Magic is based on the Monster you make a Pact with.

As for the choices, thematically it's how your Belief not only comes out, but is amplified,

The Raging Inferno would mean that you would go forth and burn away just about everything in your path. When others put their Belief in you, then your fire grows higher, brighter, and hotter. This let's you burn more things away. But even though fire can burn, it can also warm others. You will draw people to you with your flame, hoping not to burn in your inferno. Think of it kind of like being Simon from Gurren Lagann. You will move forward and anything in your path will be burned or die.

In social situations, this would be represented by you grinding your teeth together in an attempt to stay calm.

Out of the current options (including the Write In), this is the mid-point in terms of bodily harm. You will have some broken bones, but will be fine if you don't push yourself.

The Tranquil Fury is a bit different. You go forth with a cool, calculating mind. You take in everything around you. Weak points, places that can do the most damage, items that can be used to get an edge. You channel all of this into a single plan that will utterly demolish whatever is trying to stop you with surgical precision. When others put their Belief in you here, you start to notice more small things that could make a big difference in a fight. The ice you wield forms a glacier upon which others can stand, and watch as you conduct your work, even though this makes you seem less than human. This would be more akin to Batman or Deathstroke.

In social situations, this would be represented by you just getting quiet. Smiling even while you plot your enemies demise.

In terms of harm, it's more mental than physical. Using that much brain power at once can wear the mind down. Push too hard and you'll...."burn out".

The current Write in, Apocalyptic Fury, will be like Asura. Wrath. You are Wrath. You don't care what is in your way, if it harms you, your loved ones, especially your daughter, it. Will. Go. DOWN. God, Legend, Mythic, you don't care. They hurt your loved ones, and you will destroy them. Belief from others causes you to care more about the people around you. The ones that you want to protect. Which in turn makes you even more angry than you already were, because someone has the gall to hurt these people on your watch! Of course, you sometimes forget where you are, and may cause more damage than good. But in the end, people will rely on you. Because you're a giant, fuck off, battering ram.

Socially? This would be represented by having a hair trigger temper, where even a single insult against your daughter or loved one has you ready to fight.

In terms of harm, physical all the way. You'll recover as long as you don't push too hard, but it's gonna sting. Might want to start wearing protective gear all the time.

Belief Types Part Deux
Could I get a power analysis for mine?

Certainly.

Fury of the Storm would be like having Super Speed. Your brain pumps way more Adrenaline into your body than it should be able to produce. This causes everything around you to slow down. You move faster than the eye can see, almost like lightning in your movements. While you don't perceive things as well as Tranquil Fury or hit as hard as Apocalyptic Fury, you don't have to. Small wounds add up after all. No one will be able to see you coming until after the damage has been done. When others believe in you, you can move even faster. The more Belief, the faster speeds you can reach, to the point where your body is so used to the speed it can move it that it's more reaction than actual action. People will flock to you, as they do the Eye of the Storm. Even while you rage at the enemies surrounding you, you keep them safe in your calm demeanor. Of course, storms are forces of nature. They cause destruction by virtue of being in an area. Be careful you do not become like them.

In social situations, this would be represented by being "quick on the uptake". You would be able to "get" things faster than others, and would sometimes think that they are going too slow for you.

In terms of harm, it will mostly be in your muscles and legs. The human body was not made to move that fast, and you'll be feeling the effects as soon as the battle is over.

Day 17 Part 3/Day 18
[X] Ice cold, calm rage.

Hmm, you seem to have underestimated that Dullahan. You had thought that it's heavy armor meant it was slow, so it wouldn't be able to track your movements. Your original plan had been to get past it, take out the one it made the Pact with, and then get out. In your current form fighting them when they had a Pact and were in the same vicinity is not very smart.

Yet, here you, Anastasia Craft are, dangling from the hand of a Felknight. At first, you hadn't thought it that bad. Sure it was gripping your wrist rather tightly, and it's armored fingers were starting to chafe, but it wasn't that horrible. And, despite all of your attempts at escaping, it was quite clear you would need to work to get out of this. All of that however, was a minor annoyance at best.

And then the human female slapped you.

It didn't humble you if that was her intention.

Far from it.

It just made you...miffed.

Very miffed.

In fact, as of right now, transforming and letting about 75% of the neighborhood population die from insanity doesn't seem like that bad of thing right now. Right now, you just want to make her hurt.

You turn your head back towards her, narrowing your eyes and smiling to put her off her game. Your right cheek stings, but it's slowly dulling thanks to the annoyance slowly building up in your system. She's still got her eyes narrowed in fiery anger. Good. Then what you're about to do will be all the sweeter.

"You, my dear, have—"

"Excuse me, what do you think you're doing?"

You drop both your focus guided lividness in favour of wide eyed surprise. That sound like...but it couldn't of been. It had the undertone of your father's voice, but none of the warmth. Even when he's around people he can't stand, you've noticed the compassionate way he speaks to everyone he meets.

This voice...there's no compassion.

Just a cold hatred.

The Dullahan and her master have looked over to where your father still is, getting their attention away from you.

You wriggle in the Dullahan's still firm grip, moving your head to get a better look at—oh.

Oh my.

Your previously viscous smile returns when you see your father slowly making his way towards the three of you. He's smiling, but it isn't a friendly smile, no.

This is the smile of someone who is done playing around.

It's strange really.

When these two first showed up, you were panicked. Thousands of questions were flying through your head. How did they get here? Did someone send them? How do they know about Anastasia?

When they grabbed your daughter, you felt fear. Your mind shouted out pleas and bargains to get them to not hurt her.

Then, they did hurt her.

When they did that, you felt so mad. In fact, you felt a dozen emotions at once.

Sorrow, fear, uselessness, grief, anger, hate, wrath, fury, rage, rage, rage.

Then, for some reason, you just stopped. Your emotions quieted down. They stopped swirling around and around in your head, attempting to find an outlet for your rage. Now, you just feel serene.

Oh, you're still angry. No doubt about that. But, you don't see the point in raging about it. For in your frenzy, you would be unable to think clearly.

Specifically, to see clearly.

But now you do see.

You see exactly what you need to do to End these two.

On the outside, you're all smiles and politeness. You're hands are behind your back as you walk at a measured pace. Neither of the intruders have answered your previous question. Even though you're pretty sure the Dullahan can't talk, you didn't really expect an answer. It was mostly a distraction to get them to freeze for a few seconds so you could get close enough.

It worked.

"I'll ask again," you say as you close the distance. You're close enough that you can smell what you can only guess is the perfume the bitch brought with her before they came here. It smells of lilac and blueberries. Not a good combination.

The woman sneers at you, "I don't see why—"

Now.

At first, the armor on the Dullahan daunted you. You didn't think you had anything that would let you break through it. This close, you can see you don't have to break through. The arm that's holding Ana up in the air is too stretched out. That leaves a tiny opening in the armor just large enough for you to push four fingers into.

You're not sure what it is holding the armor up as you don't feel any flesh when you reach inside of the arm. The best way to describe what you feel is "strings of silk", if silk was so thin that you could pierce through it with one finger. Still though, your attack gets the job done, and whatever's holding that armor in place shatters the minute you strike.

With the first part of your plan complete, you move on to the next part. You see the knight start to reach for it's sword, but it moves too slowly. It had to move its head over to its left arm to cradle it so that it could hold Ana in its grasp. Now that grip was slowly weakening as it tried to respond to your first move. Your left foot comes up, taking advantage of the creature's weakened grip to knock the head high into the air. It's eyes are still closed, even as it tumbles towards the ceiling.

Just like you expected, the Dullahan's attention goes towards its currently flying head. It's right leg shifts slightly, but just enough for you to bring your foot down on the kneecap. It bends backwards, armor shrieking in protest. The Felknight starts to fall, so you turn your attention to its master.

Ah, she's trying to cast a spell or something. The movement of her lips gave that away. However, it's obvious that what you've done has unnerved her. Good, this means she's off balanced and unfocused. Which means….

The spell comes out, trailing a scent of decomposition and fertilizer as a purple energy ball streaks towards you. Just when it looks like it will hit your chest, you sidestep the attack. It hurtles past and hits the Dullahan straight in the chest. You weren't sure if this part of your plan would work, particularly because it was magic that came from the Dullahan. Thankfully, the attack hits the Dullahan squarely and forces it back with enough force to knock it into its own head. Both body and head fall to the ground in a heap.

The woman is shocked for about three seconds and that's all the time you need. You step into her guard, shattering a force field of some kind she put up around herself. It tingles as you burst through it, confident that nothing can or will stop you. She tries to bring her hand around to your face, purple energy crackling across the palm. You lift up your left arm and force it back. Your right hits her in the trachea with a swift palm strike.

Her pupils contract and expand, hands moving up to her neck with her air supply now temporarily cut off. A two swift strikes, one to the back of the neck and the other to the center of her chest, and she's out like a light. You let her body fall unceremoniously to the floor, while you hold out your right arm.

Your daughter falls across it a few seconds later, none the worse for wear. You bring her up to your chest in a hug, planning to never let her go again. You start to inspect her cheek where she'd been hit while saying, "Are you alright, sweetie? Should I get some ice? What about your wrist?" The place where the woman slapped Ana is red, but not bleeding. It should heal up in a few minutes.

You breath a sigh of relief and start checking over her wrist, when she grabs you by your cheek. She turns you to look at her, starry blue eyes serious, "I'm fine, father. It takes a lot more than that to cause me any real pain."

[Trust: 10]

Her mouth curls into a smile, and she pecks you on the forehead, "Thank you for worrying though."

You smile and just stand there with your daughter in your arms. Silently, you wish that you could just stay like this forever. You and your daughter embraced in perfect happiness.

In a perfect world, maybe.

But, as a moan from the unconscious person at your feet tells you, this is not a perfect world.

Your face becomes serious, but you smile at Anastasia as you lower her to the ground, "Give me a second, darling. Daddy needs to express some rage."

She nods, "I understand. I shall be standing nearby waiting for your next move." She confidently walks back into the kitchen, and seats herself with a clear view of the doorway.

You inwardly frown. You were kind of hoping that she didn't have to see what you're about to do. But then again, she isn't exactly a normal child. And you wouldn't want it any other way.

You look down upon the woman at your feet, keeping the Dullahan in your peripheral vision. Now, what to do with these two?

You could let them go. A quick check out one window shows that the cultist and news van have long gone. Whether the Dullahan did that, or they just up and left, you aren't sure. Still, it doesn't look like they would have too much trouble getting away.

Alternatively, you could kill them. You look down at the woman and really study her this time. She looks normal, peaceful even when she's sleeping. Hard to believe that she's the one that broke into your house and hurt your daughter. You could end her life here and justify it as self-defence. Still though, she is a human being. Can you really bring yourself to do that?

[]Let them off with a warning. You'll let them both go, but you'll make sure they understand to never ever come here again. (Decrease Notoriety)

[]Tell them to send a message. It's clear that the both of them are "in" with the supernatural community (if there is one), and that someone sent them here for Ana. Why else would they just attack your house in the middle of a rainstorm with no explanation? Sending them with a message could get whoever sent them off your back.
-[] If chosen, what is the message? (Possibly decrease Alarm and Notoriety depending on what is said)

[]Kill them both. You can't risk them coming back. You need to end them now. (No Change)

Deed done, you walk over to the kitchen and sit with your daughter. You breath out a sigh of relief. You feel tired for whatever reason.

Anastasia is staring you, mouth in a tight line. Worried, you ask her if something's wrong.

She waves her hand dismissively, "No. I'm just waiting for you to fall unconscious so I can give you medical attention. It should be happening...right...about..now."

Your raise an eyebrow when she gets to the last word. What does she me—ooooohhhhh god your head hurts! You grab your head with one hand and start to sway in your seat. You feel your eyes losing focus. You fall to the floor, room spinning in front of your eyes.

Ana rushes over and lifts your head up. You're eyes feel heavy. You think you're gonna go to sleep.

Yeah, sleep sounds good right about now.

The last thing you remember is Anastasia picking you up and moving you over to the couch.

She's such a sweet girl.

Knowledge of the Supernatural (Beginner): Turns out, there's an entire world that you are completely unaware of right under your nose! Heh, heh….uuuggghhh. +5 to Supernatural Investigations.

A Bond between Father and Daughter: Everything is better now! (Trust is Maxed Out! +15 to actions to Increase Trust and 1 Reroll for failed actions to increase Trust!)

Orator (Novice): You've got that commanding voice! (+10 to rolls to Inspire or Persuade others)

DODGE!: Best way to not get hit? Not get hit! (+10 to Defensive Combat Rolls)

Your enemies are some kind of strange Shadow Creatures. Apparently they live in..well shadows and are currently watching your every move. You've encountered one of them twice. Once when it appeared on the roof of your car. Then again when you accidentally left Anastasia at home alone.

You have discovered that whatever the Shadow Creatures are, they can bleed. They can be killed.

You have discovered that Magic exist.

You have discovered something called Belief.

There's an Eldritch Monster underneath your school. It is currently asleep Indefinitely, unless someone else tries to wake it up.

Edit: I feel I need to make the Spare/Kill choice a bit clearer.

For the most part all it will really do is determine how Howard deals with situations like these. Like how his Belief Power choice will have some effect on his personality, this will too.

Mostly, it will determine what choice he normally goes for first:

Letting enemies go with no consequences.

Letting people go, but making sure they don't get off scott free.

Or just going for the quick and easy solution.

Mythic Info
Can we suborn the Dullahan? I mean she doesn't need her head to work for us and if we can nab it and hide it... Also having an additional supernatural creature around to protect our little elder abomination would be useful even if it's coerced.

Most Mythics tend to stay away from each other. Even after all this time, there's still that predator/prey mentality many of them evolved with from the beginning of life. As such, getting multiples of them in one place is kind of difficult.

It is possible, and nowadays a lot of them have put that aside to form organizations.

But...it's kind of like sleeping in the same house with that one dude who ate your great-great-great grandparents all those years ago.

Things can get....awkward.

That said, you can get multiple supernaturals in your house. Just hope you can afford what it will cost to feed them.

Day 19
[X] Ask for a day off: Hey, you're only human. You can only go on for so many days at a time. (+1 to Action for one day, but may worsen rep with boss)
-[X] Call into work and get a mental health day, spend the day with Anastasia.

You've got your phone in one hand and an ice pack in the other. Groaning slightly, you massage the bag of ice into your aching skull while your other hand flips through your phone until you get to the Big Green's number.

It rings but once, before you hear that same holly jolly voice of your boss on the other line, "Craft! Good to hear from you my boy!"

"Hello, Principal—wait, how'd you know it was me?" you'd thought that the guy would've forgotten your number amidst the multitudes that he has to keep track of everyday. After all, what's one random call from a teacher who works for you to a call from the Superintendent themselves?

You hear the sound of a car door opening and closing on the other line, "Don't you know? I keep all my teacher's numbers in my phone, named and in alphabetical order in case any of them to call me for anything. Organization, Craft! It's what runs the world!"

Suppose you can't argue with that. Partly because the man's got a point, and he's also your boss, "Actually, sir, I called to talk to you about something important."

"Well, then, don't keep me in suspense! Let's have it!" the sound of the glass doors that make up the entrance to Crossroads sound through the phone. Thing is, you don't hear any of the normal hustle and bustle of the hallways. Hmmm, he must get up really earlier to be able to get their before anyone else. That's dedication. "Speaking of which, can you believe this weather!? Three severe thunderstorms, three days straight! That's just crazy! Oh well, all that means for you is giving your kids extra work to do, huh?"

"You see, sir, I actually wanted to talk to you about that," your head pounds to remind you of why you're calling. You wince, holding the bag of ice a bit firmer on your head, "I was thinking of taking the day off today."

Your boss doesn't seem to react, of course you can't exactly tell that since you're talking to him through a phone. Still, when he next speaks you can't help but notice that his tone has a tiny bit of an edge to it. Not enough to cause you alarm, but it's there, "Really? What could that be for? I mean, you're one of the main teachers who comes to work everyday. Is something wrong?"

"Oh nothing too serious," you answer trying to ignore your headache, "Just a bit of mental stress is all. I've had this serious migraine since the storms started, and I was thinking of taking some medicine for it. I'll be in tomorrow though! For sure!"

The other line is silent for an uncomfortable two minutes. Then, Mr. Watson's voice comes through all cheery again, "That's perfectly reasonable, my boy! I've been meaning to tell you to use of some of your vacation days anyway!"

"Yeah, well—wait. I have vacation days!?" This is the first you've heard of that!

"Every teacher does! I have to be sure I give them their time off, or else the Brass is gonna come down on my head for slave driving!" he laughs haughtily at that joke.

"Oh yes, one thing. Since you've been out for so long, I've decided to send you're paycheck to you by mail. It should be getting there by today. Don't spend it all in one place now!"

You sigh, thank Mr. Watson for listening to you, and say your goodbyes. He wishes you good health, and hangs up.

You lean back on the sofa, closing your eyes as the cooling ice relieves some of your pain. As you do, your thoughts go back to last night. Your mind slowly recreates the scene in front of your eyelids, as they start to close.

(+2 Money)

[X] Tell them to send a message. It's clear that the both of them are "in" with the supernatural community (if there is one), and that someone sent them here for Ana. Why else would they just attack your house in the middle of a rainstorm with no explanation? Sending them with a message could get whoever sent them off your back.
-[X] This is a safe zone for families and normal people, your petty squabbles and prejudices have no place here. Never come back if you want to keep your lives.

You crouch down so that you're level with the woman's face. Her eyes are still closed, and her breathing makes her body rise slightly off the floor before falling back down again. You stare at her for a long time, eyes flicking across every small detail that will let you subdue her if she wakes up and decides that antagonizing you further is a good idea.

Satisfied with that, you turn your attention to the Dullahan. It's right arm is missing, and so is it's left leg. Apparently the pieces scattered after you broke whatever connection it was that kept them up and running. At least that meant the creature was less of a threat, but it didn't make you feel safe. Looking past the body, you stand up and walk towards where the head rolled under your curtains.

Picking it up, you find that it is not all that heavy. You expected a human head to weigh more, but this thing is as light as a feather. It's eyes and mouth are still closed, which disturbs you more than how cold it's skin is. This thing hasn't woken up even after everything that happened to it back there? Strange.

Putting the head underneath your left arm, you walk back over to the unconscious person. Crouching low again, you put a hand on her back and start to shake her, "Excuse me. Wake up please. You're kind of in the way of my front door."

After about five shakes, the woman starts to groan. You take your hand away while she props herself up on one elbow. Since she fell face first, whatever makeup she was wearing has come undone. Purple eyeshadow and lipstick are smeared across her face. Her dimples and hair are fine though. She sits up straight and starts to rub her eyes with her hands.

"What...happened?" she sounds drowsy, like she just woke up from a long nap. You suppose she kind of did.

Putting on your best smile, you look her in the violet eyes before answering, "Multiple things." You take one hand and start counting off, "First, you broke into my house. Second, you tried to kidnap my daughter. Third, you slapped my daughter. And fourth, I showed you why the third thing you did was a very bad idea."

It takes a few seconds before your words sink in, but when the do you see her eyes go wide with terror. Perfect. "Good. You're starting to see your position here."

Her eyes narrow before she replies, "So what? You got the drop on me once, doesn't mean it will happen—"

Before she finishes you hit her in the trachea again. She grabs her throat, struggling to breath, but still staring you down with defiance in her eyes. You just keep your smile up, "You were saying?"

"Fine," she chokes out, causing her to cough again, "what do you want?"

The Dullahan starts to get up by this point, pushing itself up by its remaining arm. It seems to be able to see well enough without a head, so it's no surprise when it instantly starts to reach for you. You grab its head in both hands and hold it above your head. You hear a hissing sound, and smell sulfur. You guess that Ana must be aiming an energy blast right at the head, as the Dullahan backs down.

You nod, and turn back to the woman, smile gone, "I want you gone. I don't know who sent you or if you're working for someone, and I don't care. However you found out about me and my daughter, know this. This neighborhood is a safe haven. It is a place of peace, for families and others who just want to live their lives."

You make sure that you've got her undivided attention, "Whatever your petty squabbles or prejudices, they have no place here. Leave. And never come back. And if you do…"

You lean in until your face is close to her ear. You make sure that your every word is said with as much conviction as you can muster, making sure your warning is believed.

"Your lives are forfeit."

Then, as quick as you can, you move back from the woman. You stand up, eyes still on her face that gives off no clue as to what she's thinking. Though judging by the fact that her nails are currently trying to dig ruts in the floor, you think you got to her.

You toss the Dullahan it's head, which it deftly grabs with its remaining arm. You back away until they are both in your field of vision. Then you take one hand, and point towards the front door.

"Now, get out of my house."

They had left soon after, the Dullahan apparently able to just put itself back together. You've got no idea how it knew where all the pieces to it's body parts were, but you won't question it. They're both gone and you can relax.

Hopefully they, and who or whatever sent them, gets your message.

(Notoriety of both Ana and Howard Decreased! Alarm Slightly Decreased!)

Spending Time with Ana Roll: 85 + 15 (A Bond) - 10 (The News) = 90 High Success

Your headache soon abates enough for you to take Ana out somewhere. It's your day off after all! Why not spend it with your favorite person?!

For once, you decide to let Ana decide where the both of you should go. When she questions you why, you say that it's because you've been the one deciding where the both of you hang out lately.

That, and you're sick of the park.

So it comes that you find yourself in the Vade Mecum Library. You're currently standing with your back to the counter of the main desk watching Anastasia as she dashes back and forth between different sections. You sigh with pride at her readiness to read. Reminds you of yourself when you were younger.

Being a public library, Vade is much more formal and cleaner than Bram Stoker. Though the place will always hold a place in your heart, that place is limited by the fact that it's a Middle School Library. That means that most of the books are there for either entertainment or school projects. Top that off with the fact that some of the kids don't return their books, and you've got a pretty standard school library.

Here? Everything is way more professional. You still need a library card to be able to check out books, but you were expected to bring them back. Not just that, but if you missed the due date they are legally obligated to fine you. Understandable, considering that some of these books must cost a pretty penny.

Even the atmosphere of the building was different. Instead of the green and school like feeling of Bram Stoker, Vade seemed to have a bit more of a homely feeling. It made you feel like they welcomed everyone here, no matter who you were.

You're interrupted from your musings when you hear whispering off to your left. Not wanting to seem obvious, you slowly move your eye to look that way. What you see is some little boy pointing at you while tugging at his father's jacket. Thankfully, his dad seems to be in a conversation with his wife about something, because he keeps pushing the kid's hand away. It's hard to hear the kid since he's a good feet away from you across the polished wood floor, but you do catch snippets here and there. Most sound like "That man from TV" and "His weird daughter".

You inwardly sigh. That's something you're probably gonna have to deal with as long as you two are in the New's eye. Thankfully, you've been able to avoid any journalist or crazy cultist for now, but who knows how long that will be.

You hear the sound of leather covers hitting hard wood and turn to see Ana placing about three books on the counter along with her newly obtained library card.

All of them are over 500 pages in length.

You look over at the librarian, an old man who seems to be in his late 50s to early 60s, and suppress a laugh as he gazes at the three large books. He looks over at the covers and his facial features just keep getting more and more awed, "Human Psychology, Sociology, and Government Systems throughout Time! Young lady! Wouldn't you rather read something….more suited to your age?"

Ana holds her hands behind her back as she answers with that same matter of fact voice of hers, "I'm am merely attempting to pursue knowledge wherever I can find it. Isn't that a noble enough goal that it transcends age?" You notice she twirls a lock of her blond hair as she says this. Whether that's just an act or a habit she picked up, you've got no idea.

The man looks to you for reassurance, but you just shrug, "What can I say? She's a Prodigy."

The man (his name tag says his name is "Kurt") shakes his head as he types something into his computer. You think you hear him mutter, "Kids these days," as he rings you up.

(Ana now has books on Human Psychology, Sociology, and Government Systems throughout History!)

A couple of minutes after your visit to the Library, you hear a knock at the door.

Strange. You didn't invite anyone over today.

Your body tenses up. It can't be those two, can it?!

There's no way they could be back so quickly!

Is it someone new?! Will you be able to stop them this time?!

Your slowly walk towards the front door. Your mind examines your front door, and you're halfway through preparing to punch through it using a weak spot around the keyhole, when a voice comes from the other side.

A familiar one.

"Hey! Craft! Open up will ya? I brought the family with me!"

Your adrenaline stops pumping and you smile as you grab the door handle. When you open it, you see Volkar with his two wives under his arms at your front porch. He's got his biker outfit on again, and it seems Maeve is wearing a matching one as well. Barbara is being more modest and wearing a simple blue dress with sequins in the skirt.

Volkar holds his hand out and you grab it as firmly as you can manage, powering through his strong grip, "Volkar! Come on in! What are you guys doing here?" You let go of the werewolf's hand and step aside, admitting the three into your house. Four you discover, when Chester rushes past his parent's legs laptop in hand. Does that kid ever let that thing go?

You close and lock the door, going to greet the guest. Wow! This is the first time you've ever had them over here! Better make a good first impression!

You walk over to Volkar and put a hand on his shoulder to get his attention. He turns around to look at you and says, "So, this is the inside of your house huh?"

"Yeah, pretty simple I know," you humbly admit, "but hey it keeps us alive and safe."

"True," Maeve chimes in from the living room, testing the cushions on your couch with a foot, "but it doesn't seem like there's much to—" Suddenly all four lycanthropes stand at attention.

You see Volkar's eyes narrow, and his nose goes into overdrive. He steps around you to sniff near the front door, "Why does it smell like death in here?"

Oh boy. That's not you is it? You did just shower today after all. You sniff under your arms to be sure, and are relieved when you're right. The four werewolves all start to converge on a single spot on the floor. The spot where you knocked down th—oh.

Barbara is the first to speak, her dog like ears visibly pointing up on her head, "Was there a...Dullahan here?"

"Why yes, there was," Ana says from the kitchen. She's taken the time to look up from one of her new books to look your way. "In fact, my dear father was the one who took care of both it and it's master."

You feel a shiver down your spine for some reason. You turn and see that all of your guest's eyes are on you now. Feeling slightly self conscious at the attention, you put a hand on the back of your neck while chuckling slightly, "Well, you see what actually happened was," and so you told them the events of last night. Surprisingly, they listen to your every word, even following you into the kitchen to hear the rest of it.

Unfortunately, you didn't expect to ever have more than two people in your house at a time, so the Harrowmonts had to go without chairs. Didn't seem to bother them a lick though. They all kept their attention on you through the whole tale.

"And so, I told them to leave or their lives are forfeit," you end, drinking from your cup of milk. You'll have to get more when you head to Walmart later. Urgh. You're dreading that.

The Harrowmont's are silent for a while. They seem to be digesting your story. Volkar keeps looking between Maeve and Barbara, having a secret conversation of sorts at the table. It makes you feel slightly uncomfortable truth be told.

Chester, on the other hand, is looking at you with that shine in his eyes you recognize as unending admiration. He's on the left side of the table with Anastasia, and smiling so much that you can see his canines, his tail is wagging beneath him. He's the first to break the silence, shouting out with so much enthusiasm, "That is so cool! Ana, how much of that was true?!" he sounds like he's asking merely to be polite rather than actually doubting you.

Ana, the picture of innocence, smiles at her friend and nods, "That's right. Every single word. He was so gallant, weren't you father?"

Et tu, Anastasia?

"I don't know about that," you try to hide your face into your cup. Seriously, it's not that big a deal.

Volkar comes over to you, his shadow falling over you from your left side. You look up into the face of a smiling man. He puts a firm hand on your shoulder, "Congrats, Howard. You've surprised me."

"Huh?"

"We thought we had ya pegged, fella," Maeve points to herself, Barbara, and then Volkar, "we figured you was one of them...what do you call it, Barbs?"

Barbara looks you in the eye and says with complete confidence, "A lover not a fighter."

"That's it. We thought that the minute real trouble came a knocking, you'd get knocked on your keester. Instead, we come over to find out you took on a Dullahan and her master and won. You've got some serious machismo." she makes a cupping gesture that makes you wince, but you don't move much thanks to Volkar's grip.

Barbara speaks next, "I'd have to agree. I originally asked Volky to come with me and watch over you while you slept. But, looks like I was just being paranoid."

Before you're able to comment on that last bit, Volkar nods at both of his wives and turns back to you, "From this day forth, let it be known that you have my respect Craft. Not many men would've stood up to an Undertaker, let alone attack one with little more than their fist and win. If there's anything you need help with, just give me a call."

The lycanthrope says this with so much confidence that you can't help but believe him. You even see his family all nod to you to cement the declaration. You feel this swell of pride at being so..respected. Especially amongst werewolves! Briefly, you wonder if you should tell them about the Eldritch Abomination under the school and the cult, but figure it would be better said at a later date. You remember hearing something about Chester saying that his family had serious problems with the Eldritch in the past.

Best to not bring it up when it might ruin relations now.

(Volkar and his Family Respect you! They are ready to offer help if asked! SLs Increased! Chester Idolizes you now! New Action: Inform the Harrowmonts: They really should know. (Get Harrowmont Assistance when Investigating the School))

-Focus on Offense (Work towards Perk for Offensive Combat)

Roll: 41 = Success

You remember your plans for the rest of the day and figure that Volkar could probably help you with your training. He's a strong guy after all, "Actually, could you help me out right now? I was thinking of trying to improve my physique. You know, make it easier to hurt people if I have to. Think you could help me with that?"

Volkar's smile gets downright sinister and you know you've made a big mistake, "No problem, Howard. I'll be happy to help."

You look around the table for assistance, but everyone seems to have taken an interest in something else. Even Ana is looking at Chester's laptop as they watch that show they did last time Chester was here.

Traitors! Why have you forsaken me?!?!

Volkar drags you into the living room, while you tell yourself it won't be that bad.

"Why do you have cinder blocks attached to your legs?!?" you say as you punch one of said blocks for the twentieth time. Your hands feel numb, and you're pretty sure the skin on the knuckles is cracking.

"Training," Volkar answers as if it's the simplest thing in the world, "Always need to stay in shape."

You groan loudly, regretting ever telling him about your plans.

This is not what you had in mind!

"Keep punching! Next time I'll bring steel girders!"

AAAAHHHHHAAAA!

Practice Powers: Roll 95 + 15 (Potential) = 110 Artificial Crit Success

You massage your bandaged hands, wincing when you touch a sensitive spot. Ana stands in front of you, concentrating on something important. You're currently in the living room, watching her as she tries to discover a new power or maybe improve upon an already existing one.

Hey, the last time she got the ability to create a blade arm out of her own skin. Who knows what other powers she can unlock?

You soon get your answer, when you see Eldritch Symbols appear on Ana's back. Startled, you prepare to jump to her defense, when a small green light shines on her back. It keep shrinking, getting smaller and smaller until it finally disappears after a few minutes.

In its place are four spider like appendages, each as long and thick as your right arm. They flex and writhe as Ana examines them each in turn. They have a greenish, grey pigmentation, with an exoskeleton and spines leading all the way to Ana's back. She starts to move them around, testing her control over them. They prove to be pretty dexterous, able to pick up far away objects without breaking or piercing them.

You breath a sigh of relief and sit back down, headache coming back in full force.

You go to sleep to the smell of sulfur as your daughter gets used to her new appendages. You feel something warm drape over your side. When you open your eyes, you see Ana cuddled up next to you on the couch. She's fast asleep, spider legs retracted into her back.

You smile, put a hand on her head, and let sleep take you.

Some days are better than others.

Apparently, three days out of school have made most of your students pretty cranky. Hearing that they're going to have to do three days worth of homework by the time the week's over doesn't help any.

You spend most of the day having to field outburst after outburst, but you've dealt with things like this before. So it's not really that much of a problem on your psyche.

(No Sanity loss)

Though your headache does get a bit worse, it goes away once class is over.

You also take note that, out of all of your students, Hannah is the only one who doesn't scream or groan with frustration when you make the announcement. In fact, you actually see her go over to two other kids and start getting on the work early. It makes your heart swell with pride to see such diligence in students!

Class lets out, and you start to gather your things together when Mr. Watson steps into your office. He's still wearing his green shirt, but he's face is what you focus on. It's frowning slightly, meaning that something happened that is not good for you. You hear footsteps coming up behind him, and watch Volkar and Barbara come around the corner. They've got on some knee length black trenchcoats which causes you to raise an eyebrow. It's not even fall yet, why do they have those on?

Your gaze shifts back to your boss, "Mr. Watson. Is something wrong, sir?"

"It's about your daughter, Craft," your blood runs cold. You freeze in place, mind working overtime to try to think of all the things that could've happened to your daughter.

Did the Cult come for her?

Did the people the woman works for come here?

Did anyone hurt her?

On the outside though, all you do is smile at your boss. You fold your hands behind your back, "Really? What happened?"

The principal turns and starts to walk out the door, "It's best if we talk about this in my office. Your kids will be there, too. Hopefully we can get this whole mess sorted out without having to go to court."

You share a glance with the Harrowmonts and all of you nod, silently agreeing that whatever happens, you'll all in this together.. You all start to follow Mr. Watson out the door and down the hallway.

Ana Class Roll: 8 + 5 (Child Form) = 13 High Fail

Alarm Check Roll: 6 High Fail

It all started during recess.

You were standing next to the monkey bars, as Chester made his way across them. He would try to make it to the other side as quickly as possible, while you stood by and timed him. He was rather good at it, each time beating his previous score.

As he did this, you made some idle conversation with him. Particularly about that "Anime" that he introduced you to, "Can you clear something up for me about Berserk, Chester?"

"Sure. What is it?" He answered while turning around to start going to the right.

"Why would Griffith want a brute like Guts to join the Hawks? He not only killed two of their own men, but is little more than a sword with legs. Why would he let him live and then offer him to join their band?"

"Well, if you remember what Guts said, Chuder predicted that the castle would fall in three days. But since the Hawks were there, it took three months instead. Time?"

"5 seconds. And yes, but what does that have to do with anything?"

"When Guts showed up and joined the assault on Chuder's side? The castle fell in a day."

"Oh, I see," you say, hand going to your chin as it becomes clear to you, "Guts' presence turned what should've been a victory for the Hawks into a crushing defeat. Having someone like that on your side—"

"Could turn the tide of just about any battle in your favor," Chester finishes as he reaches the leftmost rung and drops from the bars. He lands on his feet, walking over to stand at your right side, "Final time?"

"3 seconds. Impressive." you nod as and turn to walk with him, "I believe that recess is just about over, how about we—" you stop speaking and look directly in front of you. You frown, and hold out your right arm to stop Chester from moving forward. He starts to question you, but sees where your eyes are focused and looks up with you.

A few feet in front of you is a familiar face. You specifically remember the faces of the boy and girl standing in front of you 7 days ago from the park. The boy is standing slightly behind his sister, attempting to hide behind the larger child. He has a smug smile across his face that reaches up to his sickly green eyes, slightly covered by his dark blue hoodie. His teeth are white, but you see the yellow that indicates an active sweet tooth.

His sister stands with her arms in front of her chest, and face contorted into a sneer. She has the green eyes of her brother, but that is where most of the similarities end. Where her brother is short and stout, the sister is tall and lean. However, she has the bearings of a tomboy, her jeans that have been torn at the knees along with the ripped up sleeves of a black T-shirt that says "I Rule" indicates that. Why would anyone even let her wear something like that at school?

The four of you stand there, staring each other down across the grassy field. Most of the other students have gone back inside, but you notice three or four watching from the sidelines.

You decide to be one the to break the silence, "Excuse me, are you waiting for us?" You glance to your side and see Chester flexing his hands. He's tense, taking a small step to place himself in between you and the two children. You smile inwardly at the protectiveness you've inspired in him, "Well, I'm afraid that you'll have to wait a bit longer. We still have a class to get to you see."

The two nuisances don't budge, but you expected that. The sister, clearly the brave one, speaks up, "I'm here to pay ya back fa what ya did to me and my bother you freak."

"Really?" you feign surprise, "And who exactly are you?"

This seems to anger her, as her sneer deepens into a frown, "You don't member us? I'm Essie! Essie Olson!" She jerks her thumb at her younger brother, "And this is me bother, Gerald!"

"Oh, so those are your names. I didn't get them last time, and it was a good week ago. And I don't have a habit of remembering things that are inconsequential." She looks at you in confusion, and you smile, "That means 'unimportant' my dear."

That sets her off, she starts to advance on you pounding a fist into her palm, "Think you're smart, huh? Let's see if ya think that once I'm done with ya!"

You catch some movement out of the corner of your eye and file it away for later. They seem to have gotten someone else to assist them in this. It's a good thing that most of the teachers are taking care of their last classes, it'll stop them from interfering with this.

Just when the girl is close enough to hit you, Chester steps in front of you. His arms are outstretched and you can hear him growling deep in his chest. She's a good head taller than him, but he stands his ground. "Leave her alone," he rumbles, causing the girl to stop in her tracks.

Then her face turns smug, hands going to her hips, "Oh! Who's this then? You're boyfriend~?" she says the last word with her version of a high pitched voice. Which isn't a very good one, as her current voice already sounds much more like a boys than it should.

You see her eyes dart behind you, answering your suspicions from earlier. There is someone behind you, probably a friend or family member. With this knowledge, you put a hand on Chester's shoulder and whisper in his ear, "On the count of three, you take her and I take the one behind us." He nods, as you start to count the number of footsteps in the grass until the other assailant is upon you.

10 Steps.

"One."

5 Steps.

"Two."

1 Step.

"Three."

You feel hands try to get under your shoulders, and jerk your head backwards. It slams into something fleshy, and you hear bone break beneath it. Ignoring the slight pain from the attack, you spin on your right heel. Left leg raised you spin kick the child behind you, forcing the air out of their lungs. You activate a little bit of your physical augmentation power, and grip their right shoulder. With a heave, you pull them back towards Essie and slam them into the grass at your feet.

Confident that they are out cold, you look up to check on Chester. Sure enough, he's got Essie on the ground, straddling her with his legs. She's got her arms up to protect her face, but it doesn't do much against Chester's assault. He doesn't let up, growling and grunting while he pummels away at the girl's defences. They soon break, and he headbutts her hard. Her eyes stay open for a little bit longer, then fall closed. Her body slumps to the ground, unconscious.

Breathing heavily, Chester looks back over to where you are. When you give him a nod, a hands comes up to his chest and he sighs. You look down and kick over your assailant. Another girl, but she looks like Essie's clone in every way. The only difference is where Essie's shirt said "I Rule", this one says "We Rule". Must be twins.

Your gaze goes up until you find the other Olson sprawled out on the ground with his mouth agape. Keeping a smile on your face, you skip over to where he lays. You stop when you get to his right side, and lean down until your face is level with his ear, "Tell everyone what happened here. Let them know that I and those with which I associate myself are not to be trifled with. Those that harm us will be neutralized swiftly and easily. Have I made myself clear?"

You already know the answer, judging by the tears running down his face and smell of ammonia in the air, but you want to hear him say it. Just to be sure, of course.

He takes a gulp of air, most of it having gone out of his lungs, and tries to steady his voice for his next sentence, "W-w-wh-who-who are you?"

You smile and pat him on the shoulder as you walk away, "Anastasia Craft. Your superior."

Chester joins you soon after, posture relaxed once the adrenaline runs its course. You take a hand and rub him on the head as a reward.

Now just to get back to class.

You've gotten to the Battle of Helm's Deep in your book, and you don't want to miss that.

"....And that's what happened," Ana finishes, placing her hands in her lap to signify the end of her side of the story.

You're currently sitting next to your daughter in one of those grey folding chairs most schools have for times when there aren't enough seats in a room. The room you happen to be in right now is a place you had hoped you would never see yourself if you could help it; the Principal's Office.

Normally, people only came here because either they were in trouble or someone they knew were in trouble. You're in here for the latter reason, and it makes the light brown walls and desk with swinging pendulum and black phone on it even more nerve racking. You fidget in your seat as Mr. Watson sits with his hands flat on the table and back straight. His face is blank, stopping you from being able to read any emotions from the man.

To your far right sits Chester, nervousness etched into his body. He's fidgeting constantly, eyes darting between the imposing figure of the Principal, and his parents looming over his shoulder. However, whenever his eyes pass over your daughter, you see his body get less rigid and more relaxed.

Mr. Watson looks at Ana for a bit longer, the little girl staring him down with a face filled with impassiveness. He moves his gaze over to Chester, "Do you have anything to add, Chester Harrowmont?"

Ooooh, that wasn't good. If the Big Green used your full name, then you know he's thinking about punishing you in someway. Chester looks around the room for comfort, doing his best to avoid the Principal's eyes. He looks up at his mother and father. Volkar keeps up his poker face, only giving Chester a neutral look. His mother, puts a comforting hand on his shoulder and nods.

The wolf boy takes a deep breath, "Essie tried to hit me first," at Mr. Watson's raised eyebrow Chester puts his hands up in defense, "It's true! Right when Ana said she felt that other girl grab her under the arms, Essie tried to punch me in the face! I ducked under it and pounced her!

The Principal nodded satisfied, but what Chester said next put the whole room's eyes on him, "But...whatever you're going to do, please do it to me! I can take whatever punishment you can think of. Just leave Ana alone, please."

Thankfully, you're not the only one surprised by the boy's offer to bear the retribution that's coming. His parents are both staring at him with wide eyes and open mouths. Even Ana, normally stoic about everything, has a look of surprise on her face, "Chester...why?"

It's at that moment that the Big Green starts to laugh. It's his jolly laugh, the same one that you heard on the phone yesterday. He grabs his chest as it turns into gawhuffs. He calms down after about three minutes, wiping a tear from his eye, "Hah ha. Ha. Oh. I haven't seen this in a long time."

Chester's mother puts her arms around her son, "Seen what?"

"This behavior from a young man! He's willing to bring harm to himself to help Craft's little lady!" He chuckles a bit at something.

You still don't follow him, "Sir, what are you talking about?"

He waves his hand in front of you in dismissal, "Don't worry about it, my boy! Just be prepared. This little charmer might steal your daughter away before you can blink."

Your face contorts in confusion, but you grab onto Ana's hand to calm your nerves, "So, what happens now? What about the Olson children?"

"Hmm? Ah yes, them," he returns to his stoic face, putting his hands together, "based on your children's stories, they acted against the Olson children only in self-defense. The good news is, thanks to my diplomatic charisma, their parents will not be pressing charges against any of you."

You, Barbara, and Volkar all breathe a sigh of relief at that. Volkar says, "And the bad news?"

The Principal leans back in his leather chair, hands idly brushing against the pendulum on his desk and sending it swinging, "The bad news is, I'm afraid I have to suspend your children for a maximum of two days."

Barbara is the one who beats you to exclaiming, "What?!?! But, but why?! It's clear that my little Chester didn't do anything!" she hugs her son closer to her chest.

You nod your head squeezing Anastasia's hand a bit tighter before saying, "Yes. Those two kids obviously meant to harm them, so why are they being punished?!"

Mr. Watson calmly says, "Simple; I can't make exceptions. My school needs to have students who are disciplined, and will follow the rules. If I were to let off two students for fighting, even in self-defense, it would reflect badly on the school as a whole and me as a Principal. Don't worry, the Olsons are going to be expelled for starting the fight in the first place. I hope that you all understand my reasoning behind this."

You want to argue, but can't. He's right, you wouldn't want anyone thinking that just because Ana's your daughter she gets special treatment in the school. And besides, at least she's just suspended for two days.

You nod with your head hung low, "I understand, sir."

Barbara seems to want to argue, but Volkar puts a hand on her shoulder and shakes his head. He looks back at Mr. Watson, "We understand. Thank you, sir." He holds his hand out for a shake.

Mr. Watson leans over his desk and takes it, "I'm glad we got this settled. For the record? I believe your story more than the Olson's. They actually tried to say that Craft's daughter had psychic powers! Crazy right?"

You nervously chuckle, and stand up with Ana's hand in yours. After you shake hands with your boss, you walk out the door with the Harrowmonts following close behind with Chester.

Once you're all well away from the office, you stop and turn around to face the two werewolves, "So, you two. About that favor—"

"The answer is yes," Barbara says before you can finish. When she sees your surprise, she smiles, "We know you have to leave everyday to go to work, so if you need to you can drop Ana off at our house. It'll give her and Chester more time to play, and we can get to know each other better."

You….don't know what to say, "Thank you, Barbara."

She waves it off. Chester's beaming, so happy that his tail is wagging beneath his feet.

You look down at Anastasia, and she nods in agreement, "Better than leaving me at home by myself. I would be fine, of course, but I'm not sure how Child Services would react to you leaving a 5 year old home alone."

"Oh, that reminds me," you say look back at the Harrowmonts, "I've been meaning to tell you something…."

(Alarm Greatly Increased! Chester and Anastasia are Suspended for Two Days! Anastasia will stay over Chester's house until the Suspension is over!)

Oh, I've been meaning to tell you...: 82 + 10 (Orator) + 20 (Amulet) = 112 Artificial Crit

You relate to them how Anastasia was able to find the Eldritch Abomination living under the school, as well as give them all the information you currently got on it.

Their reaction...is slightly more than you expected.

At first, they just stand there, mouths agape as they digest your knowledge. At first, you think you might've broken them.

Then you see their eyes narrow, and pupils turn into yellow slits.

You see ok nope, nope, you are never looking at them when they're that angry again! They seem to be flitting between human and werewolf form and it looks disturbing to say the least. It's like taking a 2D image, and constantly changing it to 3D, then back again.

And you're not wearing any 3D glasses.

You rub your eyes and sigh in relief when you see the three werewolves have settled on their human form. However they still look really pissed. Vivid even. Barbara seems to be trying to stop herself from clawing her way into the floorboards, and Chester's claws are out.

Volkar walks close to you, eyes focused on the floor in disgust as if it were tainted somehow. The smell of his breath from the first time you met him face to face starts to fill your nostrils. He stops in front of you and grabs your shoulders.

"Craft," he says, voice raspy and deep, "how long have you known about this?"

Thinking you may have made a mistake, you nervously reply, "Umm, about three days now?"

Volkar nods, "Good, so it's recent then. Listen to me, Craft. We'll help you. We know how to deal with Lovecraftian Monsters. However, you need to promise me something."

"Ok, what is it," his head comes up and looks you in the eyes. His predatory gaze seems to burrow into you, as if trying to see deep into your soul. What you see is a man with a deep seated hatred for something, that goes way deeper than he's letting on.

"When, not if, when things get dicey, when its time to fight for our lives, you can't interfere with us. No matter what we do. Promise?"

He couldn't of dropped a bigger weight on your shoulders, if he suddenly gave you 20lb dumbbells to carry. You can pretty much figure out what he means by that. There's little doubt in your mind that this creature hasn't already got a Cult following it, much like Ana does. More than likely they will defend it with their very lives.

Meaning that you're gonna be facing humans.

Meaning that the Harrowmonts are probably gonna have to kill some humans.

And Volkar's asking you to stand by and let it happen.

Can you really do that?

Even if they are enemies, they're still people like you and even Volkar.

Can you just stand by and let them do as they will?

Blessedly, Volkar backs off and returns to his family's side, "I know this is a tough choice, so I'll give you some time to decide. But you'd better be ready to uphold your end of the deal when the time comes." Then the three werewolves take their leave, Chester sending you one last wave goodbye before disappearing down the hallway.

You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding in. You look down at Anastasia, and see your hands are tightly gripping her shoulders. You let her go before you hurt her, and pick her up. You hold her in your arms, and she wraps her hands around your neck. The both of you just stay there for a while, taking in what just happened.

Then you walk towards the Exit to the school, mind still racing.

(Harrowmont Help Gained! They will start conducting their own investigation into Crossroads! +25 to all Crossroads Investigation Rolls! Will have to decide whether to let Harrowmonts have free reign during confrontation!)

I didn't roll for Ana against the bullies, because they stood no chance anyway.

Edit: Oh yes, the reason for these tending to take a long time to update, is because of my work ethic. I believe in Quality over Quantity, and try to make every Update the best I can make it. I always make sure to have it beta read by my brother before I feel comfortable posting it.

Werewolf Info
...Do they age into geriatricity in Dog Years too?

If by that you mean "will his father become an old man by the time he is 14 in Human Years"? Then no.

One thing about werewolves is that their magic is mostly focused on improving their bodies physically. This includes making their bodies younger than they should be.

They can turn this on and off, and most Alpha's choose to keep it up until they're certain their kids can take over the Pack. Then they start to go senile.

Day 20 Part 2/Day 21
What's up with Crossroads?: 98 + 5 (Knowledge) + 25 (Harrowmont Help) - 10 (Low Knowledge) - 10 (???) = 108 Artificial Crit

Night fell as you and Volkar started to prowl the grounds of the Academy.

Well, Volkar prowled.

You just stood back and watched him as he moved across the grass with an insane amount of skill and grace. Once he stopped moving, you would crouch-run over to his position, which normally was a large tree. How he was able to move like that without making a sound, you've got no idea. Probably has something to do with his being a werewolf.

Volkar led the way, while you acted as lookout and guide. No one should be out when the school has closed for the night, but you could never be too sure. There were always those who stayed at the Academy long after hours were over.

It doesn't take too long to get into the building (Volkar…."picked" the lock….hopefully you can fix it on the way out), and you start to follow your companion through the halls. When you ask how he knows where he's going, he taps his nose with a finger.

Right. Werewolf.

Nothing really happens at first. You run from room to room, sometimes hitting dead ends or locked doors that you don't want to "pick".

Then, Vokar stops and tells you that he's found the place.

Which also makes you feel very unsettled.

You're in front of Barton's Darlings.

Anastasia's old daycare.

Volkar goes in, and you follow him. No one's at the front desk, thankfully, and you start to dig through the papers looking for something official looking.

You are both surprised and frightened when you finally find something.

What you find are documents. Specifically, documents on different children dropped off at Darlings. Each one has information you would normally see on a child's sheet for a daycare. Names, DOB, etc. However, the disturbing parts start coming when you start reading some of the information.

Most of the babies listed here are from 1980 or older!

You keep looking and find that there are some documents that go all the way back to the 1800s! What the Hell? Has Barton's really been around that long?

It gets worse though. You start to see some of the other information that's on the profiles. Blood work results, numbers that indicate a kind of test using sound, and...ritual failures?!

Your shivering by the time you reach the last profile. Then your blood runs cold.

In your hands you hold Ana's profile. There are no highlights on this one, just one big, red phrase stamped across the whole page:

CAPTURE AND PREPARE FOR SACRIFICE!

You show the papers to Volkar, and he snarls while pocketing them. He says you've got evidence, but no names of the people who work here. If you had one of them, you could probably hunt one of them down and ask some questions.

Your image of the girl who met you on your first day at Barton's flashes through your mind. You think of her smiling face, and youthful energy. She looked like the picture of what a daycare worker should look like, a perfect worker.

Too perfect.

You mentally curse for how you didn't see it the first time, and you mention the name to Volkar. The werewolf nods, a bit puzzled to how you know that, but he doesn't ask questions. With evidence in hand, you both silently leave what you once believed was a safe place to work.

How things have changed.

(Investigation 85% Done! Evidence against Barton's Darlings Found! Kelly revealed to be a possible Cultist!)

Fun Book Learning (Turns out there was no need for the Reading a Book Roll, as it and Fun Book Learning are the same thing. So just, ignore that 71): 91 + 15 (Prodigy) = 106 Artificial Crit

You and Volkar say your goodbyes outside your house. He tells you not to worry. You'll find these guys, and make them pay. Hearing it from him makes you feel a bit better, though the fact that you unwittingly handed Ana over to Cultist still sort of weighs on you.

You wave goodbye, as Volkar pulls away in his white sedan. You walk up to your door, knock twice, wait, then knock again, before unlocking the door. You and Ana agreed that since things were pretty hot right now, you should create a passcode using knocks before you're allowed in the house. If the person can't get it right, Ana has your permission to look at them through the window with the door locked.

If they mean either of you harm, she has complete authority to impale them through the door.

The door opens up and….you're surprised to find Ana sitting at the table with that book you bought from the store. When you step in, she looks up and smiles at you, "Father. Come, sit with me. I think we would both benefit from reading this!"

You shake your head, but feel yourself swell with pride on the inside. It will always warm your heart to see your daughter so into reading. You oblige her, and walk over to the table.

You've got evidence that suggest Barton has been performing rituals on children sent to stay there since the 1800s. They have a profile on Ana, and want to capture her for a sacrifice.

Here it is guys.

Sorry it isn't that good.

I think I may have used up most of my energy on the last update.

And as for the last few Rolls, don't worry about them too much.

They'll be resolved in the next update.
