[x] You think the people, the personal level, is what really matters. You want to help magical be better people, give them that opportunity, and let that shape the society that forms.

Glad to have you back.

[X] You don't think it's as simple as good or bad. People react to the situation they're in, and magical girls are no different. You just want a society where it's possible for magical girls to be good people without having to fight for it every step of the way.

Wow, I really should reread this soon now that it's updating again, I've forgotten so much. I definitely remember liking our big bro, hope we see more of him sometime vaguely soonish. The upcoming plotline with him and the University Meguca Club/Mafia is sure to be interesting (if we ever get to it, it's still quite a ways off in-universe)

Here I am using "good" to mean nice/cooperating and "evil" to mean selfish/defecting. I think most people are generally good if they can be, but will mostly just act like their peers. A small percentage will always be good or evil. Someone pure evil in an environment of good will be massively successful, someone pure good in an environment of evil ends up dead. Laws are an attempt to force all actors to be good, but said laws will frequently be influenced by the evil who want to get further ahead.

So yeah, this vote option is pretty close to my personal opinion on morality and laws. Meguca who try to be nice are taken advantage of and die, and we need a society to prevent that. Once a majority of meguca in an area are "good", that's generally self-perpetuating so long as they maintain reasonable vigilance.

Actually, holy shit, that sent me on a terrifying-slash-brilliant tangent.

First of all, Shinobu could sign a contract not to compel allies without their consent. For bonus points, one could use esoteric models such as Coherent Extrapolated Volition, because the computation of the contract runs by magic, and so may not actually be computationally bounded. CEV, for reference, is "would the hypothetical perfectly-informed version of you give consent." She would love being magically stopped short of issuing compulsions unintentionally.

Second, those who have been witchbombed/lichbombed could sign a contract that prevents them from disclosing it unless those they are disclosing it to could safely accept it. You wouldn't even need to explicitly name them in the contract; you could simply refer to "cognitohazards endemic to Puella Magi" and have everyone sign it, even before being informed. This would allow Reiko to draft it without getting bombed.
computing esoteric legal models oh god echo what have you unleashed with this power.

Remind me, has it eaten more than 1 max potential per person? This is a trend we're gonna need to keep an eye on either way, but if it's only eating 1 max potential per person so far, it's probably not urgent.

It's only eaten one point so far, but my worry is that it might be a symptom of something else. I don't think there's anything that can be done immediately, but it's something to keep in mind.

I'd guess it's either the invisible thing in the sky that Yui doesn't know about so we can't do anything about, the Memoir unfamiliar or they might be the same thing.

Maiko's Corruption: 130 / 3,000
Maiko's Corruption: 50 / 2,999
Fuck. Not unexpected, but fuck.
Minami's Corruption: 250 / 2,800
Minami's Corruption: 785 / 3,299
Hold on, what? I panicked when I saw Minami's max ending in a 99 too but this is just baffling. Is this a typo or is Minami's max corruption higher than it was before???

I'd guess it's either the invisible thing in the sky that Yui doesn't know about so we can't do anything about, the Memoir unfamiliar or they might be the same thing.

Just to clarify terminology, Yui's been using "unfamiliar" to refer to the probably subsapient second-tier products of the apparent soul dividing wish magic. The apparently sapient and humanlike beings produced by the original soulguca using her powers on herself have generally been referred to as "(emotion) dolls" or just by their given names. "Memoir" is either a title or the name that would belong to her counterpart born from the original soulguca's Witch splitting herself in the same way.

Remind me, has it eaten more than 1 max potential per person? This is a trend we're gonna need to keep an eye on either way, but if it's only eating 1 max potential per person so far, it's probably not urgent.

It's removed one point from Yui, Maiko, and Minami.

Obviously it's choosing targets based on plot relevance.

Where does the giant invisible thing in the sky first appear?

Yui first sensed its approach during her conversation with Muhou after their slugging match.

Hold on, what? I panicked when I saw Minami's max ending in a 99 too but this is just baffling. Is this a typo or is Minami's max corruption higher than it was before???

Ugh, dammit. Definitely a typo, sorry. I pulled the planned max value from my original notes instead of the adjusted value I decided on after she chose her wish.

EDIT: Fixed. Sorry for the confusion, but thanks for catching that.

Minami's Corruption: 785 / 2,799
haha I made it worse

Alright, back to my originally-scheduled panic, then. It seems fairly clear to me what's basically happening: Yui saw the thing in the sky - in all likelihood the Memoir doll, who I think of as Denki - and had something taken from her for it. That's why Maiko being affected too doesn't surprise me, she was right there with Yui. I was originally going to go on a panicked rant about Minami also getting affected - Minami wasn't even there, she was watching with her spy sat, what is Denki capable of??? - but upon reread Minami totally walked Yui home, so she was there too. So... yeah. Not as bad as I was afraid of for a second, and probably not some insidious virus that'll spread to everyone we know and drain us until there's nothing left or anything.

...But still. Denki, as I believe I've made fairly clear in past posts, terrifies me. I mean, the dolls all kinda do, the idea of having some irreplaceable part of yourself taken away and not even being capable of knowing what's missing is a horrifying one, but Denki especially. With her you don't just not know what's missing, you probably don't even know that anything happened at all. We really need to do something about her, but, well...

so I'm just gonna go back to what I was doing before the hiatus: Screaming! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Soooo, the voting looks pretty one-sided so far. I'm a bit surprised, as I intended all four options to be reasonable for Yui to pick, but on the other hand... I was fine with all four options anyway, so it's all good?

At any rate, because the short-term impacts of this choice are fairly minimal I've actually already started on the next update; I'll leave the vote open for a few more hours just in case more people want to weigh in, but otherwise I want to get the next update and its significantly more panic-inducing vote up as soon as possible.

in all likelihood the Memoir doll, who I think of as Denki

There are multiple words pronounced "denki" and I'm pretty sure the one meaning electricity is far more common, so this is kinda weirding me out. :V

Since it's not really a spoiler for anything meaningful, to avoid confusion the names of the other two dolls are Yake and Katami.

EDIT: Ugh, fixing a typo. Katami, not Kitami.

Oh wow. That sentence is very easily missed.

Working as intended. :V

Is Yui still dead tired?

Yeah, but she's currently on a second (or third) wind and doing okay for now. Her reflexes and coordination are probably completely shot when she's not transformed, but the baseline magical girl enhancement package covers a multitude of sins. She's gonna crash hard at some point in the near future, but Tomo can get her back on her feet by healing away the exhaustion.

You might find this GIF helpful for that:
thanks I appreciate it

yeah that's fair

Yeah, I'm sure that's the point. As I pointed out at the time, the Dolls' auras can kind of work through the fourth wall, in that Echo wrote their introductions such that the story would affect us the way their magic affected the characters. Kyoufu's intro was terrifying, Muhou's was frustrating, and probably-Kitami's was so subtle that it was hours before anyone even noticed she was there. It's honestly a really cool effect.
