On two occasions she visibly restrained herself from striking at your Soul Gem, leaving herself open in the process."

Oh. Well that's chilling.

On the bright side, we have a new angry friend to go with all our other emotionally-volatile friends!

Well, that could have ended incredibly poorly.

Yeah, like... as far as social-ing Muhou goes? This was pretty much the best thing you could have done. 100% success there.

Buuuut Maiko is kinda Not Happy With You about it because while she does realize that yeah, Yui was right and honestly did know what she was doing, it was still stupidly risky.

Love a slugfest, its a bit rare to see magical girls going close up in hand to hand combat unlike the usual magical abilities and weapons.
Might as well call Yui the Pink Devil.

The magical presence in the sky is just Minami's "spy satellite", right? It has the same sort of "somebody else's problem field" aura that Minami herself can generate, and we know that Minami was watching the fight because she reacted to it.

That was fun.

I'm actually quite fond of Muhou upon learning she held back. There's a lot wrong with her, right up to and including her existence. But she made a conscious decision to be good*, instead of all the instinctive stuff that's been causing problems (but can also be argued to be 'good' from certain perspectives).

*Good as in not killing people. Assuming she knows anything about soul gems, which is quite an assumption and yet she held back for a reason so it's not unfounded

Okay, so still considering our options, but does anyone see any reason why we shouldn't use Asami as an excuse to take the time to heal up properly? I think the consequences of showing up clearly having been in a fight would cause Yui's parents to insist she sign up for self-defense classes immediately, which doesn't jive with our need to pick a teacher carefully to avoid tipping Natsuki off. That being said, I could easily be missing some key detail here.

[] Take Kyoufu somewhere else
- [] Take her to Momoko's house and assign people to keep watch over her

[] If Kyoufu wakes up while you're around...
- [] Think of scary things and try to talk with her (write-in what to talk about?)
-- [] Think of entropy and the endless and inevitable decay it brings, the meaninglessness of a universe that doesn't care about meaning, and the idea of actually having to talk to a crush. Kyaa.

These are my ideas for the vote. I don't want to leave Kyoufu free, cause christ did we have enough trouble with her already. I am open to other ideas for the whole, scary things to think of while talking to her.

Muhou is shockingly reasonable for a contagious manifestation of anger itself. I wish she had known anything useful, though.

I have a perverse love of having Yui solve problems by getting into fistfights, like the pink compassionate opposite-mirror of cookie-cutter action movie protagonists. It's a good thing Muhou apparently understood her perfectly and... decided to reciprocate the fists of friendship, apparently.

That said, I have no idea how to repeat the success on Kyoufu, and it's hard to even... guard her properly. I think, maybe. Some trial and error might be called for?

In hindsight, even though it would have been less effective social on Muhou, we probably could have... shouted hotblooded things at her or something, with the deliberate controlled anger to get through to her, and then it would have been less risky but possibly still effective enough.

Minami sounded either horrified or impressed or both. I forget, can she record from her spy satellite?

Edit: Actually, maybe Maiko has some fear she could use for getting through to Kyoufu?

Yui would almost certainly recognize that unless Minami was specifically trying to hide it from her.

Going home looking beat-up is basically a non-option, especially since she might still be visibly bruised tomorrow morning even with baseline meguca healing. I won't 100% veto it if you can think up a good excuse, but the choice is basically learn to do basic healing magic or drag Tomo out of the house to fix you up.

I mean, technically you could wake up Naoko and get her to do it instead but, uh...

In hindsight, even though it would have been less effective social on Muhou, we probably could have... shouted hotblooded things at her or something, with the deliberate controlled anger to get through to her, and then it would have been less risky but possibly still effective enough.

That would have been less successful with Muhou, but would have avoided upsetting Maiko, yes. You'd have gotten basically the same information, but left Muhou with a neutral-at-best impression of you.

Minami sounded either horrified or impressed or both. I forget, can she record from her spy satellite?

She does not have a recording option, no. It's possible she could learn how as an extension of her innate magic, but it's not something that would come naturally to her.

Eh, depends on what magical girl series you've seen. I generally picture Yui fighting at least semi-seriously as a high-budget Pretty Cure fight. :V

Also, I'll say that I'm shocked at how much raw power Muhou was able to bring to bear. Not a lot of people can last in a slugging match against Yui, even if both sides were holding back from seriously hurting the other.

Muhou could probably beat a lot of magical girls if she could force the match into being on her terms (obviously, if they managed to leverage powers or speed and reach to avoid a punching battle, that number decreases).

Well, overall it's disappointing that M - and presumably K - don't actually know anything useful. Especially since the scary one is likely to be even less coherent and cooperative than the angry one. One the other hand, we did a cool, and to be fair, if Mahou had escalated in the fight, we could've easily done so as well. It was a mutual holding back thing that we made the right call on, so I'm inclined to dismiss Maiko's 'complaint.'
Not quite sure what to do here, but perhaps we could leave her with a phone and a note? The fear aura just makes things too difficult in person, and she seems to react badly to telepathy.
You know what? Why don't we just walk home all bruised up? When our parents inevitably demand what on earth happened, just smirk in a satisfied manner and tell them there's good news and bad news. Bad news: that gang we drove off in our heroics wanted revenge. Good news - they won't be coming back a second time, and we also don't need to look for a self-defense instructor now, due to befriending a mysterious mentor! And then just walk into our room and collapse.
[] Get a quick report from Minami and Yumi about the newbies they found.
I'm kinda sad we didn't get to see them, as I spent my 'commission' on designing a magical girl of my own. Maybe tomorrow.

The basic principle of Yui working herself up into a compatible emotional state probably still applies, and Yui has no lack of fears to focus on. Fear that every day she doesn't solve this dozens of people are having parts of their psyche amputated, that she's going to get herself killed being reckless like she just was, that she's not going to be the great leader she's trying to be, that being a magical girl will ruin her relationships which already had some issues when it comes out that she's lying to people she cares about... there are fears to use.

The question is whether we can get her to awaken in a timely fashion and whether even if we do talk to her, she'll know anything at all useful.

The concealed powerful magic that was watching us is probably a better lead. Presumably we have some awareness of that and ability to act on it, or it wouldn't have been shown in the update at all. Maybe ask Maiko some questions which would lead to her deploying some kind of defense/awareness thing?

Hmmm, maybe it's premature to think of the long term, but since Muhou and possibly the rest of these things seem to be in the magical girl weight class, maybe we should think about a recruitment pitch? Like, what sort of life are they going to want for themselves, and is that something they can get by affiliating with our group?

For Muhou, I assume that she'd enjoy having friendly fistfights on a regular basis, and that's something she pretty much needs meguca for. She could hunt witches, and she'd be welcome to do that as well, and she's clearly in the right general weight class. She might also just want friends, and as a magical person-thingy that might also mean meguca are her best option.

Kyoufu would be somewhat harder, but we'll ideally learn more about her soon. I'm guessing she'll have similar constraints of having trouble getting a non-meguca social circle due to her nature, so we might have a decent recruitment pitch there as well. If someone is going to try to talk to her on the basis of fear, and turning that into a productive conversation... Yui would be ideal because of her general resilience but I don't think she could do fear in the same way. And I'm not sure if someone could score a social win with her the same way things turned out with Muhou.

If Kyoufu woke up in an isolated place with a phone, that might be a much easier way to talk to her. That's what I'm suggesting at the moment. I assume someone will have a better idea.

I'll second trying to follow up on the watching magic, since it seems like it wasn't Minami. Alert Maiko and take a minute to try to overpower whatever it's using for concealment? After all, it might be related to whoever's creating this irresponsible creations, so we should definitely be able to overpower anything we need to, and something tried to make us forget it, but we're stronger? I'm out of practice reasoning with Yui's magic, but something along those lines.

Healing should be done by whoever's reasonably available with most efficient healing magic. I don't see why older meguca wouldn't be much faster than Yui just by dint of practice? So either Maiko or one of the new vets back at base. Presumably for Yui to heal well she'll have to try healing someone who really needs it instead of... trying not to look like she's been in a fight.

It's probably pretty easy to get people to come punch you in the face when you radiate a contagious anger at everyone nearby.

especially since she might still be visibly bruised tomorrow morning even with baseline meguca healing.

Yeah, we definitely need healing. I was more asking whether there was a known reason why using Asami as an excuse would be a bad idea.

Also, to the people who want to deal with the weird magic watching us, that's a non-option because per the vote options, Yui doesn't remember having noticed that.

Yui would almost certainly recognize that unless Minami was specifically trying to hide it from her.
aaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH -

Y'know, something I've noticed in this arc is that these things's freaky mental auras have a way of penetrating the fourth wall. When Kyoufu first shows up, she's strange, alien, and doesn't fit into the preestablished mold of how this world works, so we're actually scared of her. When Muhou appears, she lays a savage beating on a character we've grown to somewhat like, so we're actually angry at her.
Besides, the massive magical presence overhead is making you nervous.
and now this thing's 'forget me' aura is clearly working through the fourth wall too because NOONE'S TALKING ABOUT IT AAAAAH:eek2::eek2:

...or at least, noone was at first. Phew. I don't vote in quests, but I'ma second the 'do something about that' notion as well.

So, if the hiding-things magic worked and Yui is unaware that anything was watching...
"Yes, 'oh.'" Maiko shoots a glance at something in the sky, then leans down and picks up Kyoufu.
Maiko visibly noticed something, and I think maybe we can act on that. Ask her what she saw in the sky. Ideally she'll notice something incongruous. Minami might have seen something also, and whoever it is might not have managed to get Minami in the effect. If that's the case, Minami would likely chime in on her own, though.
