Late Evening - Monday, January 10th, 2011
You flop back on your bed. Your mind is still racing with thoughts of what just happened, anxiety over the prospect of risking your life warring with excitement over the prospect of... well, everything else.
The excitement seems to be winning. No way you're going to sleep right now!
You pick up your soul gem again. This time you actually notice the detailing on the gold setting around the gem. You were distracted by the shiny earlier but... it's actually really pretty. Lots of flourishes and intricate patterns. The largest recurring motif is a pattern of swirling lines that connect in the shape of a heart, with a smaller gem in the same shape sitting on top of the main gem, which is sort of egg-shaped.
You spend a few minutes getting distracted by the shiny again before remembering something important.
Pocketing the gem carefully, you slip out of your room into the dark hallway and duck into the bathroom. Holding the gem up next to your face shows you that yes, it
does match your eyes! You hope that means your magical girl outfit will also match--although you haven't actually watched any magical girl shows in years, from what you can remember color coordination is very important.
Also from what you remember pink means that you're supposed to be the leader.
Of course, being a leader means you need a group to lead, soooooo you suppose it can't be helped and you'll just have to get started on recruiting a harem
wait you mean team of magical girls! The burdens of leadership weigh heavily on your shoulders indeed.
...anyway.
Just in case, you flush the toilet to avoid suspicion and slip back through the hall into your bedroom.
Unfortunately you are still completely wired and energetic even by your unimpeachable standards. Maybe listening to some music will help? You pull out your music player, put on your headphones and start flipping through tracks without stopping to look at what you'd been listening to previously which turns out to be a mistake because
whoa that's loud. You turn the volume down and keep looking.
Sometime last year, after you'd turned 13, you approached Kaoru with your best super-serious face and asked for big-brotherly advice on how to do teenage rebellion properly. He'd tapped his chin and given his very best super-serious face before admitting that he was never actually very good at it himself. He apologized, continuing to be super-serious, before promising that after he got to university he'd inquire as to the latest, most up-to-date research on rebellious teenage behavior, at which point you both couldn't keep a straight face any longer.
You'd all but died laughing when a few months later he sent you a message detailing the results of his investigation
with formal citations and everything accompanied by an album that he'd gotten from a classmate which he claimed fulfilled all the necessary requirements for optimal rebellion.
You're still not sure if you'd call it
music, but you listened to it anyway because if Kaoru put that much effort into it you were darn well going to see the joke through. Somehow you ended up developing a taste for it, which amused Kaoru and the classmate who suggested the album to no end.
You put your
favorite track on and listen for a while before realizing that, taste for it or no, it's
seriously not going to help you relax.
But you really do need to get to sleep soon, like Kyubey--wait, how did it even know when you go to sleep? Has it been stalking you or something? As if reading your mind wasn't creepy enough!
You stew in righteous indignation for approximately four and a half seconds before realizing that oh yeah Kyubey has prooooobably contracted enough magical girls to know when middle school students normally go to bed. Oops.
After putting the music player away you poke through your manga collection and fish out some Girls' Love series you've been meaning to catch up on. It's full of floofy shoujo cliches and sparkly shoujo bubbles and schoolgirls in humorously-awkward-yet-romantic situations and basically everything you adore.
It's a life you can only dream of, alas. All those shy and innocent schoolgirls are adorable, but you have enough self-awareness to know that you're not one of them and in fact you'd probably give girls like that a heart attack if you tried to be friendly.
In any case, eventually the warm and fluffy romance settles your mind and you start getting sleepy. After putting the manga away and checking that your soul gem is sitting safely on your desk, you change into your pajamas and turn off the light.
Your soul gem bathes the dark room in a soft and comforting pink glow. Huh. Apparently having the
best nightlight ever is a side perk of being a magical girl.
You drift off to sleep, hoping quietly to dream of that tropical beach you wanted before.
Early Morning - Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
No such luck. All you remember dreaming about was pulling on Kyubey's ears and making his head stretch like taffy. Which was kinda funny, but
not what you wanted darn it. You also overslept very slightly, which is to say you woke up a bit earlier than you normally do.
You've nearly finished getting dressed when your phone buzzes. You glance at it to see waiting text messages.
[rise and shine lazybones!!!]
[cmon hurry up hurry upppp]
[ok fine gonna circle the block again you better be ready!!]
...you know, you like to think of yourself as a morning person. And a daytime person and evening person and really an all-around all-day every-day person but anyhow, point is that Natsuki has
entirely too much energy in the mornings, even for you.
Natsuki generally walks with you to school because it's "on her way". You're not entirely sure how she reached that conclusion given that you live further from school than she does and in a different direction besides. It's not like she needs an
excuse to go for a morning jog.
In any case, by the time she circles back around you've finished dressing and have devoured a quick breakfast in very little time, which is to say the same time it usually takes you.
[x] Head out to meet up with Natsuki!
- [x] Grab a piece of toast before you leave. Carry it in your mouth. You're not even hungry anymore but if you're basically an anime character now, might as well live like one, right?
[x] Walk to school and hopefully not be late. Hopefully.
[x] Jog to school and be on time. Natsuki will be thrilled.
[x] Run to school. Shouldn't you have, like, super powers or something now?
- [x] If necessary, let Natsuki win when she inevitably turns it into a race. Might seem suspicious otherwise...
[x] Chat with Natsuki on the way there.
[x] Try and talk to Kyubey mentally.
- [x] Try extra hard to remember the "mentally" part so you don't start talking to yourself about magical girls in front of Natsuki.
