Don't forget. Always, somewhere, a cry is ringing out. As long as nothing changes, this tragedy spins on.

You are... What are you..? You felt cold and heavy at the same time. Everything was dark, you couldn't see much of your surrounding. You had eyes, you should open them. Slowly but surely you can see a world tinged with green light. Bubbles floated around you, rising up and almost making you reach up to them.

A hand appeared in your field of vision. This was your hand. It was... Normal? Were your nails supposed to be that black? It looked nice. You held up your other hand and touched the first one. Two hands. It felt just right. You blinked once you realized that there was a mask on your face. It was cold and hard.

You reached out for the glass. It was hard too, so smooth and shiny. You could barely see what was outside of the glass. Where were you? What was this? Why were you here? You tried to comprehend every scrap of information you had. You were intelligent, you could think for yourself, that much you knew. You had no memories before this time so you were left with the desire to know.

You could feel... A person. A small person looking through the glass. Their silhouette stood before you. A hand pressed against your glass prison so you did what you thought would be nice. You placed your hand against the person's. Then it hit you.

Memories. Fire.

A monster. Two girls running.

A white creature appeared. It asked for a contract.

One of the girls, the older sister made a contract. Light. Burning light. Victory.

The glass against your palm cracked, the person stepping back as you pushed through. The glass shattered and water spilled out. You felt pain from your back as tubes inserted into your body all unlatched and were unable to hold your weight.

You fell only to have a pair of small slender arms catch you. You coughed and gasped as the girl supported your body. The person was a girl. She was warm. You held on as you found that you didn't have strength in your legs. The flowing liquid from your container was drained by the floor beneath you as you gasped, struggling to breathe in air.

A voice. You could start hearing sounds. A loud ringing filled your ears as you blinked while the girl dragged you away from the glass. She set you down as she fell on her rear to sit before you. You were unclothed as your hair hid half of your face.

"Can you hear me?" The girl asked you with concern in her voice. She looked young, thirteen at most as she wore what seemed to be a labcoat too big for her and a school uniform beneath.

A strange bauble hung on her neck by a thin chain. It seemed like there was dark fluid slowly consuming the interior. You blinked away from her and stared at the ground, your hands and legs and your hair. It was cold.

You should answer her.

"Yes. I can hear you," you replied, realizing that your voice seemed scratchy and painful to use. Your throat felt raw.

You met her gaze as she sat before you, staring at you and taking in the moment. You stared right back before you asked her this time.

"Who are you?" You asked in a quieter voice than the last one, "I... Who am I?"

The girl hesitated for a moment before reaching out for your face. She moved the strands of hair away from your eyes. Once she saw your face, a warm smile filled her lips as she met your gaze. You could see... Memories. Again you were able to see through places and things you didn't quite understand.

You saw an older girl smiling down at you. She held your hand and embraced you lovingly. Her soft voice was reminiscent of yours. She was beautiful, like a warm sun in the sky. You closed your eyes and let out a shaky breath.

"You're my sister," the girl said as she held your hand, "You're my big sister and I... I'm a Magical Girl."

Sister..? You blinked before you looked down at your body. Between your chest you could see an ugly scar. Almost as if something had been driven into you violently and ripped right out. You blinked again as you unconsciously held your neck to feel stitches.

What... Happened?

"You were killed and I made a contract to bring you back," the girl smiled as she started to weaken. You could see the bauble on her necklace grow darker and darker, "I'm glad... I got to see you before I went."

You reached out for her and touched her sho-

A memory.

WITCH.

You jerked back as you stared at the girl. She was changing. You could feel it. You... You need to fix her. Time was running out. How did you know? You weren't sure but she needs help. Help her. How do you help? How do you fix? You...

Held her hand and felt your senses open up. You let out a breath as you saw a memory. A number. Saironji Mitsuru. You didn't recognize the name but there was something else, another memory. A fight had just occurred. A wounded monster limped away as this girl just barely managed to escape. It was nearby. The monster's core will fix her, that much you could tell.

If you could get that monster core...

You looked down on the girl before you and grimaced. You need to stand up. It was either you got the monster core or you called for help. You couldn't choose and you were losing time. The girl was starting to have her bauble darkening even more, there was little color left other than black.

You looked around the room you were in. It was just a small metal room with a desk and a shelf. Your container was stuck to a generator of some sort but that didn't help. You instead looked through the girl's pockets to find a device. It was a phone.

"It seems like her experiment was a success," you heard a voice behind you.

You turned and were greeted by a small white creature with crimson eyes. Its fluffy tail swayed behind it while giving you a curious look.

"Do you want to save her?" It asked.

You stared right back at the creature. You wanted to save her...

"If you do, why not make a contract with me? It's not the first time this sort of thing happened. I'm curious as to what you would do compared to the others," the white fluffy creature hummed before scratching the back of its ears.

You stood up and looked down on the creature, "You... Contract?"

"Yes. A contract to become a powerful Magical Girl. A GriefBorne like you would no doubt be a splendid magical girl," the creature said as it smiled at you, "My name is Kyubey. What do you say?"

[X] Get some clothes. Drag yourself out and get that monster core.

A heartbeat passed before you decided for yourself. You gave the creature a forlorn look before you scooped up the girl in your arms. It was too soon for you to engage in any agreements, not when you were left not even knowing which was up and which was down. You walked out of the door and found a stairway leading upwards.

It was a short ascent and you opened the next door to a backyard of sorts. It was bare with some grass and clothesline all while surrounded by others houses. Holding the girl in your arms, you looked up ahead and found the backdoor open.

The clouds were dark and the cold winds chilled your skin. You endured but you really needed clothes soon if only to keep warm. You slid open the glass doors to an empty looking house. You couldn't sense anyone inside, no noise or movements. Sniffing the air, it seemed like it hasn't been lived in for quite awhile.

You heard some light taps and found that Kyubey had followed you inside. You set down the girl by the couch before standing up. You have to find some clothes for you to wear. You were about to go when the girl grabbed you by your fingertips.

"Sister..." She breathed in her pained slumber.

You reluctantly pulled away as more memories flooded your mind. Upstairs, second room to the right. Blinking the pain away from behind your eyes, you raised your head.

"It seems like you're still adjusting to your new form. It may take a bit but don't overdo it. It'll be much easier for you if you make a contract," Kyubey said as it scratched head with its hind legs.

You ignored its words as you moved upstairs. There were picture frames hung up on the walls as you got up. Pictures of a family and a couple girls. One bore resemblance to the girl down below while the other had a bright smile on her face.

Thinking back, you recognized her from the memory. Was that you? You kept moving and eventually found the room you were looking for. Unfortunately it was locked so you couldn't get in so easily. You were left standing in the nude as you shivered.

Kyubey walked to your side and said, "You have enough strength to pull it from its hinges. Why not give it a go?"

You listened to its advice and pulled. There was the sound of crunching and snapping until you ended up pulling the door open. The doorknob was crushed beneath your grip so you dropped it and cast it aside.

Entering the bedroom, you were struck with a strange feeling of familiarity. You knew this room. Yes. Was it related to you before you lost your memories? You looked down the desk and noticed the older girl you kept seeing from before. She was wearing a school uniform while accompanied by the girl from below. They were younger in this image.

You turned and faced what looked like a closet and opened it. Clothes greeted you alongside the scent of detergent which lingered for some time. Your eyes caught the sight of a mirror as you were able to finally see what your body was like. A girl stared right back at you, one with pale skin and a deep scar snaking down from between your chest down to your stomach.

You stepped closer to inspect the faded stitches on your neck and found that it went around you like a collar of some sort. Other than that, you looked fine save for a shock of white against the lush color of brown on your hair. It was still wet from your containment but it was long enough to reach your lower back.

Once you had enough, you grabbed some clothes. Taking some underwear and a skirt. You wore a plain buttoned shirt and a tie before you found some boots. Once that was done, Kyubey hopped on to your shoulder as you ran back down the stairs and found the girl.

She was still unconscious from the pain.

Kyubey took this moment to speak, "I estimate she has 10 minutes before her Soul Gem turns completely dark. She won't be able to use magic then."

"Dark," you breathed before running to the back of the house again. You glanced at Kyubey and ordered it, "Explain."

"Dear me. If that's what you want," Kyubey huffed as it held on. You ran forward and kicked off the ground, jumping high as if you had been launched off a sling.

You ended up landed on top of another house before kicking off it. The wind howled past your ears as you opened your senses and traced the memory you took from the girl.

"You might be aware already but a soul gem turning dark is a bad sign. One way to counter such effects would be to take a grief seed and use it to cleanse the Soul Gem, taking the impurities of the Gem into the seed," Kyubey explained as you searched for the monster. It winced once you landed in a roll before running again, "Grief Seeds are cores of what you call Witches, monsters that bring harm to people by causing negative spaces that will affect them. Sometimes they kidnap people if they would so desire and consume them."

Moving past a block, you came upon a few buildings. You were close so you used your speed to find the location of where the monster was. That girl... She was a magical girl, she said that much at least. She must have fought the Witch around these parts and got hurt.

Kyubey held on to your head as it hummed, "And that's the monster you're hunting. You're getting close now. I can feel the presence of a Labyrinth."

You stopped and looked around. Heavy. A heavy, cold and sad feeling hung around the area you were in. You could feel your body react to the sensation as you held your arm with your right hand. You stood before an alleyway before walking into it.

The darkness seemed to immediately reach out for you as you stepped into it. The foul feeling became more evident as you looked around you. You weren't in the alley anymore once you raised your head. You appeared to be in what was a water reservoir lit by gloomy fluorescent lights.

Catwalks crisscrossed between one another as while a large pool of water waited beneath you. You were standing on one of the many catwalks before you felt it shake. Metal bent before twisting violently as you looked around. The connecting catwalks all broke apart and started floating in the air while you held on to keep yourself from falling.

You held on a piece of metal just as the catwalk you were on slanted. Kyubey stood on your head as you looked down in the pool below. You could see a dark shape within.

"Normally, these Labyrinths will be guarded by familiars however this one in particular is barren. It would seem that your Miss Uchida had cleared them out before fighting the Witch. How fortunate for you!" Kyubey said as it clung to your shoulder. The water below bubbled before something jumped out of it.

It was a frog. Opening its mouth however revealed hundreds of hands reaching out. You moved and jumped from where you were just as the Witch crushed the spot you were on. You jumped off the next platform until you reached the open space before the pool of water.

Landing in a crouch you turned as the Witch crashed back down the water. A monster... So that's what a Witch looked like. The Frog crawled up to land and open its mouth to unleash hands towards you. You reacted and dodged by rolling to the ground.

"Magical girls would deal with these sorts of witches quite easily. A normal human couldn't hope to defeat it," Kyubey said as it hopped off you and got to safety.

The hands scraped up the ground as you ran up a wall and flipped over it. A deafening crash erupted as the Witch withdrew its hands before its body convulsed. You could see a large cut on its thick hide refusing to heal. That must be where your... Sister hit it.

The Witch twitched and convulsed before glowing bright. Pillars of water rose from behind it and turned into watery young girls. They held musical instruments as the Witch croaked out loud.

"But you. You who are neither Magical Girl nor Human..." Kyubey hummed as it stared at you.

The Witch charged you with renewed vigor as you clenched your fist. It kicked off the ground and jumped, flying high before crashing down to you.

You dodged, avoiding the crushing attack the last second.

"It would be interesting just how you would fare," Kyubey finished as you pushed the Witch with all your might. Tackling it from the side, you had it slide and crash into a wall.

Kyubey walked up to your side as you looked down your leg. The creature sat beside you as you both watched the Witch rise up and turn towards you.

"The GriefBorne are a contradiction. Corpses brought back through what could be considered Taboo Experiments," Kyubey said as it glanced at you. You looked down your hand as you felt pain flare within your body.

"There many methods to creating GriefBorne. But the sole base of the idea is that they require Witch materials. A group of Magical Girls once created a Homonculus from materials gathered from Witches. The information of their work leaked out and spread through Japan," Kyubey continued as it scratched its face, "It's been hot topic among Magical Girl circles these past few weeks."

You gasped as the Witch turned towards you and lunged.

"In your case, the Seeds of different Witches are implanted in your body," Kyubey pointed out before advising you, "Use them wisely."

You reached out your hand and summoned a Cog. A metal gear fell down and got between you and the Witch. Jumping high, you landed on top of the Cog and moved down. Your hands blazed with rainbow fire as you punched down on the Witch's wound. It screamed. The deafening howl threatened to burst your eardrums just as you saw pillars of water smack you aside.

You crashed and hit the ground as you gasped for air. You forgot to breathe for a moment before you slowly got up.

You looked down on your body to see that there were objects implanted within your flesh. You got up as you narrowed your gaze at the Witch before you. You didn't understand much... But you didn't have time to idle around.

Killing that thing was your top priority.

Magical Girls
[x] Crush it with more Gears. Create more, bigger and don't stop until you've pulverized it into paste. You won't be satisfied until you do.

The Witch howled as pillars of water rushed you down. Raising your left hand, Gears appeared by your side to shield you from their sweep while you held up your right hand and pressed down. Giant gears appeared above the Witch before they all crashed down with overwhelming force.

The Witch managed to jump out of the way before you sent more Gears after it. Spinning gears floated in its path to knock it down before you pulverized it as it dodged. Water lashed out from behind you as you ducked to avoid a whip of water. The Witch drifted on the arena as it opened its mouth to unleash arms at you.

Countless of fleshy limbs reached out for you as you summoned two Gears by your side. You added four more and had them spin. They spun hard enough to create razor winds as the arms smashed into them, ripping themselves apart.

Dashing in, you ended up pulling the Witch to you as it was left being dragged by your Gears. Kicking off the ground, you jumped over the Witch as you soared above its back, allowing you to throw the spinning gears against its frog limbs to cut them off.

You landed in a crouch to which you turned and summoned a giant Gear which spun menacingly as it fell down on top of the which. A resounding splat was her as you let out a shaky breath. One of the Grief Seeds inside you was turning hot from the exertion, it must have belonged to the Witch that owned this power.

However it wasn't over yet. The Witch struggled against the Gear as the remaining arms in its mouth tried to push the object off. From the waters, the two water girls blasted a torrent of water at you as you responded. First, you had the Gear turn fast, spinning so quickly it kicked up vicious winds around you and shredded the Witch beneath it.

The Witch screamed before you pulled the giant Gear and used it to split the torrent of water coming for you. The waters hit the walls instead as you cut through it until the Witch finally lost power. It's fading screams slowly died down as you lowered the Gear before your feet.

It vanished in dark particles as you watched the Labyrinth break apart. Looking up the sky, you found yourself in the alleyway once more while the Grief Seed fell into your palm. This was what you needed. You turned to see Kyubey walk up to you and sit before you.

"You've done well disposing of an injured Witch. It's already fought it's fair share of battles as well as a particularly difficult one with your sister... However normal Witches are more powerful than that," Kyubey said as it stared at you from below. It tilted it's head and yawned, "Well, you have the Grief Seed. It's a limited use item that will cleanse a Soul Gem. You should get rid of it once it becomes too unstable."

"Why?" You asked it with a frown.

"The Witch will hatch. The same applies for your implanted seeds. If one of them reaches critical levels, they will hatch and you will have to fight their Witch forms," Kyubey advised you as it hummed. It met your gaze before continuing, "Well, it wouldn't be that difficult if you just create a contract with me."

You looked to the side and grimaced. You didn't have time. You picked Kyubey up by the scruff of its neck before pocketing the Seed. You then used your gravity powers to run and jump as high as you could. Your body shot out of the alleyway to the air.

Contracts come later. For now you had a mission to accomplish. You did that fight as fast as you could. You should have some time left. You ended up landing on the street and hitting the ground running. Still, those powers. Were those powers because of your body? Can your seeds be cleansed too?

What will happen to you once the Witches hatch? You can't help but think about the possibilities as they all were rather grim. There were so many things you wanted to know. You just had to endure for a bit more. Why were you brought back and for what purpose? You jumped and continued your way back to the house.

Kyubey then chose this moment to speak up, "Your development is a cause for scrutiny. You would do well being cautious."

"Why?" You asked him.

"I did say that the methods for Taboo Experiments were leaked but few have ever successfully created a being like you. I can count three other GriefBorne girls but none of them are to your level," Kyubey said as it held on to your shoulder, "Five Seeds. If mishandled, you may very well turn into a vicious Witch."

"That won't happen," you told the creature as you landed before the house.

"How could you be so sure?" Kyubey asked as you dropped it on the ground. The creature continued following you as you opened the door.

You were greeted by the sight of several girls in the living room, wearing dark suits. They were scattered about as two in particular were busy kneeling by your sister. They all turned their gaze at you in surprise as you tensed up.

A footstep came from behind you, making you turn-

SMACK

......
.....
....

Water. You gasped for air as your senses returned to you before you coughed and shook your head. You were in a dark room. No, there was light but only just a little. You could hear the sounds of traffic in the distance as you found your wrists bound by some sort of tough material you can't break free from.

Footsteps came close to you before you were struck. That was a kick to your stomach. A fist slammed against you cheek and you jerked your head to the side before a hand grabbed a fistful of your hair.

"Wakey, wakey Corpse-chan," a girl's voice said as she held your hair. A blonde haired girl with sharp teeth grinned once she saw you were awake.

You groaned as she tapped your cheek and stepped back. You blinked as you were suddenly under a spotlight of some sort, robbing you of your vision for a moment. You raised your head and let out a breath. It seemed like you were in an abandoned building.

There were unused materials around and the place didn't look like it has been used for years. You frowned as you looked past the light and felt the life force of five people. Three in front of you and two behind you. Judging from the ebb of energy in the air, they were transformed.

Magical Girls.

"Can you hear me?" A tall girl asked you as she walked forward. It was the first words you heard...

The girl that greeted your sight was an imposing looking beauty. Her dark hair reached down her back as she wore what seemed to be a fancy school blazer. You couldn't pry anything from her mind or memory, you didn't recognize her. You needed to touch her for that.

The look of confusion on your face must have been enough for her as she crossed her arms.

"Seems like you can. Apologies for the rough treatment but it seems like our dear friend has gone overboard again," the tall girl said as she lifted up a phone to reveal your sister bound and forced to watch through a camera.

"No! Don't hurt her please! I know I made a mistake! Just don't hurt her!"

The tall girl lifted up the phone as she leaned down to meet your gaze. She was beautiful to say the least but the cold and piercing glare of her eyes would have made lesser people be frozen. You simply glared right back at her.

"I am Minami Reika. Captain to South Section of the Kyoto Magical Girl alliance," Reika introduced herself as she stepped back, "You're here today to be summarily executed for your very existence in accordance to the Asunaro Treaty. Our member, Miss Uchida has stepped out of her station to gather group materials and resources for your creation. Grief Seeds we all need to survive."

You remained silent as you looked at her.

"While we understand her grief at the loss of her sister, she has violated not only one but three cardinal rules of our organization. She was simply expected to follow them and she will be protected however she has abused her position in creating you," Reika continued as she crossed her arms, "As such she will be punished accordingly. Please understand that this isn't personal."

You parted your lips and growled, "Then why tell me this?"

"Because you can think. We can at least give you the reasons for your execution rather than resorting to callous and thoughtless murder," Reika said as she raised your chin, "No hard feelings. Miss Uchida broke the rules and as such must be punished for it."

"Was she aware of these rules in the first place? You may just be making things up. She's but a child," you told her with a low tone.

A girl behind you snapped and kicked your side, "Hey! Watch your tone, Freak!"

You grunted and let out a breath. Reika stared at your coldly for a moment before kneeling before you.

"Even as a corpse, you're still insufferable," Reika hissed with much venom, "Maybe that's why you got killed in the first place."

She turned away and walked back to her bodyguards' side. Facing you she then said, "We already have a lot of problems in our hands. We don't need a diplomatic scandal happening by having a GriefBorne, what essentially is a ticking Timebomb, walk around. People are getting killed, you know? GriefBornes are disasters waiting to happen, especially if you have an unstable seed in your heart."

"And you think adding my body to the pile will help?" You asked her with much disdain.

You got hit behind the head for that but you didn't even feel it. You simply glared at Reika, she gave you a cold look as she sighed.

"Hopefully. One less problem to think about. The world of Magical Girls are in turmoil right now. It's better if problems are nipped in the bud before they grow," Reika said with a shrug. She smiled as she looked down at you, "Well then? Any last words?"

[X] "Who and where can I find the person who killed me?"
-[X] Try digging through the memories of the girls close to you for anything useful. Where you are, where you sister is, what the kicking girl's problem with you is, anything.
-[X] Be ready to burn through your restraints. If that fails, be ready to tear a hand off. That scar on your neck makes it seem like you lost your head once, you can probably stick a hand back on later

Last words. It didn't take you long then, huh? You shouldn't be surprised. Still you can't help but try and think of a way out of this one. On another hand, you wanted to know as well. These girls may have an idea given their present circumstances. They didn't seem to have any intention of letting you out but at the very least you needed to know.

You wanted to burn the memory of your killer in your mind.

Raising your head, you let out a shaky breath as you glared at your captors. You looked at Reika straight in the eye and asked her. Your voice remained in a low, threatening growl as you parted your lips to speak.

"Who and where can I find the person who killed me?" You asked her as you stared at her.

Reika narrowed her gaze as she stepped back.

You then looked at the girl beside you, "Or was it you?"

The girl who kicked you suddenly stepped away from you in alarm. She bared her saber in response as you looked into her very soul.

"Or maybe it was you?" You questioned the next girl holding the spotlight that shined down on you.

Reika took this chance to step forward and cut through your questions, "It wasn't us. Clearly we don't have anything more to discus-"

"This wouldn't have happened if I was killed," you continued as you met her gaze, "If I wasn't killed, my sister wouldn't have gone to such lengths. You seem to have a robust organization. Why didn't anyone help me? Why was I left to die? Was it by my own choice?"

"Sh-Shut up!" The saber girl behind you said as she grabbed you by the hair to slit your throat.

You couldn't help but smile-

It was a party. More like a victory party.

The captain stood beside you observing that upstart that defeated a Hybrid Witch and amassed a number of Seeds.

Your group was jealous of her. Of her radiance. She would have been better off dead. Even the leader took a liking to her and not only that allowed a civilian in headquarters.

You didn't approve.

The next day, that girl was found dead. Good riddance.

.....

The memory ended as Reika stopped the Saber girl from chopping your head off. You couldn't help but sigh in relief as you glanced at the captain. Reika turned to face you as you stared right back at her.

"Jealousy. But it wasn't her," you told Reika. You leaned closer to her face, "So maybe it was you?"

"It was not me!" Reika snapped right back at you.

You fell silent as you watched her. Reika seemed to feel more vulnerable the longer she looked at you. She stepped back as you held your gaze. Her hands were trembling as she clenched them into fists.

"Then who was it? Because to me, it doesn't seem like that you don't want to tell me... But you don't know," you stated in your raspy voice. The girls all tensed in response as they looked at you, "Then that means... That killer is still at large."

"So what if she is?" Reika grimaced as she looked down on you.

"Then that means that the killing hasn't stopped. It may not be occurring in this city... But you're using this Treaty as you call it as a pretense to silence me... Otherwise this Killer will come back to finish the job, or risk collateral damage," you explained as you shook your head. You gave them a firm look as you said, "You're all too cowardly to act."

Reika grit her teeth and grabbed you by the front of your clothes, "You have no idea what you're dealing with."

"How many died since my death?" You asked her with a calm tone. You narrowed your gaze as you looked into her eyes, "Are you just angry that out of all of them, the one you were jealous of was revived?"

"You..!" Reika snapped as she raised her hand to strike you.

However a voice stopped her from the other end of the room.

"Then why not send her to find our mystery assassin?" A woman's voice said as she stepped into the light.

A dark haired woman had her arms crossed as she approached you. The ember from her cigarette casting a small orange glow as she took the stick out and let out a small puff. She smiled at you while the other girls straightened up in her presence.

Reika eyed the newcomer warily before bowing respectfully, "Miss Sai. What do you mean by that?"

The older woman chose to ignore her junior and walk up to you. She took out the box of cigs she had and snuffed out the ember from her stick. You caught the smell of tobacco and it made you wrinkle your nose.

She reached out and grabbed you by the jaw, turning your head to and fro while inspecting you, "Impressive. You have to give it to the younger Uchida, she's just as talented as her sister was. Just in the wrong end of the spectrum, it's almost hilarious."

She let you go as she stepped back to look at Reika. The younger girl meeting her gaze with a steely look. The older woman couldn't help but chuckle.

"Why not take this as a chance. If you let our friend here go, we might just make headway in this little mystery," The woman named Sai suggested as she crossed her arms.

Reika tensed up at that and pointed out, "You would break the terms of our agreement with the other magical girls?"

"Well no one's getting hurt as long as it's under wraps, right? That's what you're all here for after all, to protect the integrity of our little club," Sai said as she crossed her arms. She smirked and jerked a hand at you, "And this little guinea pig is just our ticket."

"We are protecting the organization," Reika hotly replied but Sai simply rested her hand upon the younger girl's shoulder.

The woman leaned close to the girl's ear and spoke, "Three died this week just past our borders. They were ours. Now you can either nip all the buds you want or you start turning problems into solutions, the Leader won't be too happy if your performance continues."

Sai shoved her away before pulling out a knife and cutting through the air. The magical girls around you gasped at once when you found yourself freed of your restraints. You looked down your wrists before you raised your head to look at the other girls around you.

The older woman took their weakness and capitalized, "While you're here ganging up on a dead body, living and breathing girls are dying out there. So why don't you go out there and have a gander, yeah?"

"You can't just do this. She's a GriefBorne. She's a walking Nuke!" Reika snapped before Sai raised up a cellphone with a message. She read the text before gagging. Her words died in her throat while Sai simply smiled.

"The Boss is willing to overlook your initiative in abducting and punishing Miss Uchida without consulting the proper channels. In the event of rule breaking, there will be an appeals process and a subsequent tribunal. Only after then will punishments will be distributed," Sai smiled as she grabbed your arm to pull you up. Reika looked furious but stayed her hand as her comrades looked just about ready to silence the woman.

Reika looked between you and Said before snarling, "You... This isn't over."

You blinked in confusion before Sai dragged you away. The two of you moved from the room filled with magical girls to a staircase leading down the abandoned building. The musty smell lingered in the air as the sounds of traffic remained in your ears.

Sai only chose to spoke once you both reached ground level and walked out of the building. An empty car was waiting for you two which she proceeded to unlock with her keys.

"Well then, that was scary," she said as she glanced up the building and waved.

You looked up to see a few Magical Girls looking down on you both before Sai grabbed you and shoved you into the backseat. The door was shut behind you just as Sai stepped into the driver's seat and started the engine. The car moved before driving straight out of the compound.

"My sister... What about-" you started asking.

"She's safe. A friend bailed her out," Sai said as she drove into the streets and made a few turns.

You narrowed your gaze at her before speaking again, "Why? Why did you save me?"

"Let's be clear. It's for our benefit. You want to find your Killer, right?" Sai said as she kept her hands on the wheel.

"Yes. This can't be just a simple murder case. There's evidence that suggests that I've made quite a few enemies... Or at least the owner of this body did," you replied as you looked down your hands.

"You can see fragments of that girl's memories?" Sai asked with a curious tone.

"It's like watching a scene. I don't quite understand," you admitted as you shook your head.

"Well alright. Long and Short of it is that there's an Assassin on the loose. We don't know who or where she came from but she's been killing a bunch of powerful magical girls from different factions around Japan," Sai explained as you both saw a red light, the car slowing down to a halt. The woman glanced at you and added, "And tension between said factions are getting high. We might end up having a full scale war between the East and West. You getting me?"

"Yes. I understand as much," you said with a frown.

"And you just showed interest in catching the bitch. I'm willing on taking anyone on this shitshow so I might as well as pick you up," Sai said as she opened her wallet and showed you a picture.

You took the picture and inspected it. It showed a much younger Sai with you and your sister on the frame. You looked up from your seat as the woman stared at you from her rearview mirror. It seemed like the owner of this body had some sort of connection with this woman.

"Is this why you saved me?" You asked her.

"I owe Yukina as much. Your name is Uchida Yukina, Magical Girl of one year. You racked up a kill count of fifty Witches in your tenure before you joined the organization," Sai explained as she drove forward, "You then proceeded to climb up the ranks by eliminating Hybrids one after the other. You were a Hero."

A hero..? You?

You looked down your hand at the picture and at the reflection on the window. The resemblance was there but you couldn't say that the girl on the picture was you. She was bright and warm while you were... You weren't exactly that.

Sanctuary Bar
[X] "Where are we going? What's your plan now? How do we catch this Killer?"

You decided not to ruminate on heroics. It would be better if you were more proactive in your current situation, namely asking the right questions. Your body has been warmed up enough compared to when you first woke up.

You felt like you had a better control of yourself than before. You decided that it would be better for you to think about what you wanted to ask. Thinking and making use of your cognitive processes more and more was an experience. For a corpse, you were able to think and rationalize better than you first expected. Was it because of your body? Was the previous owner smart that's why her brain was so well developed?

You would expect so given the high praise you heard about her. Still, you felt that it was something you can think about for another time. For now you had other things to think about.

"Where are we going? What's your plan now? How do we catch this Killer?" You rasped, realizing that your voice wasn't all that well off.

It was dry. Your throat was dry and caused your voice to come off as gravelly as if you were gargling glass. Still, you got your point across as Sai glanced at you from the rearview mirror. She drove to the bright lights of downtown.

The woman cracked as smile as she replied, "Well aren't you chatty? We're going to somewhere safe. Your sister, or rather creator, should be there by now. It's a little haven I got for you. As for a plan... Well we'll think about that later."

"You sound like you don't have one," you pointed out with a raised eyebrow.

"Hey, hey I make an effort. But we'll see. As for the last question, well, it'll depend on you. You're the target so she'll come for you. Until then, we can get you settled down," Sai said as she pulled up before a dingy looking building, "Say hello to your new home."

You looked up the sign on the building as it's neon lights reflected off your face. It was named Sanctuary but it didn't feel like it looked the part. Sai opened the door and walked out, signaling you to step out as well. You were in a rather quiet street than normal. It didn't seem like there was enough foot traffic to attract customers here.

Sai led you to an elevator to which you both took to ascend to the second floor where the bar proper was. There was a short hall leading to the bar before Sai opened up the door on the far end to let you in. It was a bar alright, not filled with a drunks or shady people either. The smell of alcohol did linger in the air. Behind the counter was a young man dressed in a bartender's outfit.

He flashed you a kind smile while he was cleaning some glasses before glancing at the older woman beside you.

"Miss Sai, I presume business went well?" The youth greeted her.

"Well enough, Kaito. Did those two return yet?" Sai asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Mishima brought back the Uchida girl as instructed. They're probably at the back," Kaito politely replied as he glanced at you, "I have several questions, however."

Sai perked up before turning to you, "Oh. This little bird is... Well, let's call her Yukina for now. We'll come up with a better name later."

"Understood. Nice to meet you, Miss Yukina," Kaito greeted you as you could only manage a small wave. He then glanced at Sai, "Then I'll go get the two girls for now. Would you like the usual bottle?"

"Yeah. Sure," Sai replied as she sat on one of the bar's booth.

You took your seat before her and looked around. Soft piano music played overhead as the whole place brought about a rather classy feel. You didn't know how others bars would compare but this was quite high quality from the looks of it. The workers were nice and there was a nice selection of drinks on display.

You can't just help but notice the total lack of people. It was evening so there should be some customers walking in. The atmosphere still managed to calm you down a bit especially after that rather exciting time in the abandoned building.

"So are you willing to tell me what your plan is?" You frowned as you crossed your arms.

"You're pretty excitable. But like I said, it would take a bit before that snake catches wind of you being alive," Sai said as she smiled your way, "For now it would be better for you to settle down and understand more of the big picture. Namely your place in our society."

"And what place would that be?" You asked her with a confused look.

"Prime target," Sai replied. "GriefBorne people are let's say... Akin to weapons banned from war like chemical weaponry or bioweapons. Factions would want a piece of you or at least want your Allegiance in the coming battle. So you're either going to have groups like Reika that will kill you or groups that will try and kidnap you for their own ends."

"Which group are you?" You asked.

"The group that wants to stop the goddamned war by going after the psycho on the loose," Sai replied with a grimace.

"I can understand that much... So what is this place?" You asked as you frowned. You glanced at the bar, "That man seems to be familiar with our existence. Is that normal?"

"No. Not really. Normally Kyubey deals with civilians outside of the business but that guy is a special exception. The Boss asked Kyubey for the favor actually," Sai answered as she smiled your way, "Anywho, this bar is my personal office. I'm not affiliated with either of the two groups that are under the Boss's wing since I'm taking on the role as a diplomat."

"Seems like magical girls are a bit more organized than I thought," you noted as you looked around.

"You can stay for the moment while we sort out this mess," Sai advised you as she crossed her arms, "I need to keep the flames of war snuffed out while my friends hunt down our assassin target. On the side, this place is a hub for Magical Girls."

You raised an eyebrow at that to which the glorified diplomat coughed.

"They don't drink alcohol," Sai said with a sheepish look. You didn't exactly trust that look on her face. Sai cleared her throat and said, "This place doubles as an information hub where Witches are located and where who's who is. We take revenue in terms of cash or Grief Seeds, though the latter goes straight to the organization."

It would seem like in order to create you, your sister had to pilfer some of those seeds from the organization. No wonder they would be furious given that it was supposedly for the use of members only. Then if that's these then Sai would have more grounds to be angry given that her shop was taking in the seeds.

But she wasn't. She was willing to set aside your awakening to have you work on this assassin case. That was as much as you could gather for the moment. Well it would seem that she was on the eccentric side if she was willing to work with a civilian, it wouldn't be too far to assume she was willing to work with you too.

"I would assume that an information hub would be on top on whatever was going on with this Killer. Lots of people are also investigating her is what I'm guessing," you admitted as you leaned back on your seat.

"Indeed. Which is why the Boss gave us this task specifically. If any info comes out, it goes through us and we can act fast," Sai said as she crossed her arms with a nod. She gave you a more serious look before continuing, "The Boss gave the permission for you to operate for as long as you work to catching this assassin. This would also be the measure for you to prove yourself to be harmless. If you could accomplish as much, you'll have our promise that you won't be hunted anymore."

"Is that how it works?" You frowned as you leaned forward, "What of the treaty?"

"It stands but only for dangerous GriefBorne beings. So you'd do best to be in your good behavior," Sai smiled as the door to the back opened.

You turned your head to see your sister walk out accompanied by another magical girl. A tanned girl with short maroon hair, she seemed like a cold person at first given that she simply poked and prodded your sister to get her to walk.

Your sister stopped before you and Sai, her eyes refusing to meet with you for the moment as she kept her head down. Sai smiled brightly as she brought her hands together as she got up. Hooking her arm around your sister, she then gestured to you.

"You two may know each other but I think introductions are in order. This is Yuri Uchida, magical girl by 3 months and a verified Tuner of our organization," Sai said as she pushed the younger girl, "Go on. Say hi to your creation."

Yuri stepped forward hesitantly before she met your gaze, "I... Hi."

"Hello, my name is..." you replied as you studied her face. You stopped your words before grimacing.

"Well now. That's awkward. What's wrong?" Sai frowned as she crossed her arms.

"I think it would be in our best interest if we didn't refer to me as Miss Yuri's sister," you suggested as you glanced at Sai, "After all, I'm not her."

"It's fine!" Yuri piped up as she looked at you, "I-I don't mind."

Sai cleared her throat and shrugged, "Well what do you think, little GriefBorne?"

[X] "Before we do anything else, I want to say thank you for creating me. It's been made clear you took a lot of risks to do it, and even if I haven't turn out to be exactly who you were hoping for, I'm still here. If nothing else, I'll get revenge, for you and your sister. For you giving me life, and her giving me a body, you two deserve that much."
-[X] "I'd like to use her name, at least until her killer is killed. I'd like to be Yukina for now. Is that fine with you?"
--[X] If yes, hug her.
-[X] Once that's all hashed out ask about our grief seeds. How do we keep them from hatching?

You looked at the younger girl before you once more as you managed a small smile. She seemed so afraid, so uncertain, you could sense it coming off her body. That negativity hung around her, orbiting her as if she were the sun. You didn't point this out but you could understand how she was feeling.

Relaxing in your seat, you gave her a more friendly expression as you held up a hand. You spoke thereafter even if your voice wasn't all that good yet. Speak as you may, it would take a bit until your throat got better than it was now.

"Before we do anything else, I want to say thank you for creating me," you told her as you set down your hand. Yuri seemed surprised by this but you didn't let her blubber. You continued, "It's been made clear you took a lot of risks to do it, even if I haven't turn out to be exactly who you were hoping for, I'm still here."

"It's... It's fine. I don't regret it and I'm grateful that you hold no ill will against me," Yuri said as she fidgeted where she stood.

"Even then and if nothing else, I'll get revenge for you and your sister. For giving me life and her giving me a body, you two deserve that much," you finished as you bowed lightly from your seat. You didn't know if that was right but it just felt right.

Sai whistled from where she stood and raised an eyebrow, "Geez, how noble of you."

"In a world as cruel as this one where siblings are torn apart by murderers, I'll play the Noble that'll give justice," you patiently replied as you closed your eyes. You set your hand to lean on the table, "I'd like to use her name, at least until her killer is killed. I'd like to be Yukina for now. Is that fine with you, Miss Yuri?"

"Of course. I don't mind," Yuri replied with a determined look.

You managed a small smile as you got up. Stepping towards her, you gave her a quick hug. She was a head shorter than you and a bit on the skinny side. She was a growing girl but being a magical girl seemed to grant her eternal youth or something if Sai's words were to be trusted.

It was a shame but it will have to do for now. Yuri didn't protest or resist your embrace before you stepped back. Sai simply scratched her cheek at the sight once you were done with your first true meeting with your creator. She seemed so small... A girl like this fighting the Witch from before, it seemed so unreal.

"Well that's settled then," Sai said as she clapped her hands, "Now we can get on to business. I'm sure Yukina would like to have some words with you."

"This is true," you nodded as you tried clearing your voice of its roughness, "Namely the seeds implanted in me. How do I keep them from hatching?"

"Oh! I see. Well it's normal you wouldn't know about that," Yuri said as she glanced at you and Sai, "It will take awhile to explain. W-Why don't we get some drinks and sit down?"

"Kaito! Milk for the minors! JD for me!" Sai ordered out loud.

The bartender glanced at your group as he was serving the other magical girl present. He shot Sai a exasperated look before shaking his head. It would seem like that this would take awhile.

......
.....
....

"Now that we're in the subject, I might as well explain how GriefBorne are made," Yuri said as she had her mug of milk as she said beside Sai.

You nodded attentively as you sipped your drink. It was delicious. The nectar of beasts had an excellent taste, you would do well to acquire more in the future.

"The GriefBorne are similar to Homonculi of old. Whereas instead of being creatures living off magic, the GriefBorne work on the same base but are powered by Grief Seeds or Witch materials. The first known incident was from Asunaro in which a group of Magical Girls called the Pleiades Saints attempted to recreate a dead magical girl using materials from Witches," Yuri explained as best she could, "They succeeded after trial and errors, the exact details of their Experiments are hidden but they succeeded in making a False Magical Girl."

"A False Magical Girl?" You frowned with a confused look.

"A magical girl that doesn't have a Soul Gem or at least a proper one," Sai chimed in with a smirk, "I heard that she was pretty powerful for a fake and that's before she accepted a contract. Eyewitness reports say that she killed a Walpurgisnacht knockoff."

"That girl is incredibly powerful. But soon more GriefBornes would be made from the Pleiades' research and the craft will be perfected in you, Yukina," Yuri continued as she nodded. She pointed at your heart, "Unlike that girl, you're animated solely by the power coming from the Grief Seeds implanted in you. Your current personality and mind are comprised of the consciousness of the Witches those Grief Seeds came from. However your mind in its entirety should belong to that of my sister's. Are you following?"

"It's sort of difficult to parse," you admitted with a frown.

"Right. I'll explain in detail later but that's the gist of it. Now those particular seeds are tuned to allow your body to function. No one seed is similar to one another in order for them to harmoniously coexist. Otherwise you'll get torn apart," Yuri said with a disturbed look on her face as she recalled how many times her attempts could have gone wrong.

Sai chose this moment to speak, "GriefBorne individuals normally house only one Seed. But you have five so you could say you're special but all the more unstable. You have to be careful in managing them or else we'll all die."

"Ominous trivia aside, you can manage these Seeds and stabilize them to keep them from hatching," Yuri said as she held up her hand.

"And that is?" You asked with a raised eyebrow.

"You take your corruption and insert it to anyone," Yuri replied as she crossed her arms. She then had a serious look and said, "Never inject your corruption into another magical girl. Otherwise they will experience what I did and possibly have their Soul Gem darken."

"And if that happens you turn into a Witch. Fun, right?" Sai said as she was already halfway through her bottle of Jack Daniels.

Yuri ignored her cheeks being poked and said, "Another is to release your corruption in a location. But that would take longer."

"It's a problem for us though. GriefBorne can release their corruption in a specific area but that area would become a hotspot for Witches. At the same time, it'll be like a radiation zone for Magical Girls given such places would darken their gems," Sai said as she smiled at you.

"It's one of the dangerous abilities people want from GriefBornes. They attract Witches and could provide a suitable hunting ground for Magical Girls. Like a golden goose that just keeps giving," Yuri said as she lowered her head. She shook her head and raised it to meet your gaze, "But believe me, it wasn't my intention for that to be your fate... I just wanted my sister back."

"I understand. You don't seem like the type to do that," you observed as you studied her face.

Yuri managed to smile at your words as you looked down your hands, "So I just need to dispose of the corruption with either of these methods. What happens when I weaponize it and fill a Witch to burst with it?"

Sai raised her eyebrows at that while Yuri looked to the side to think. The thought didn't seem to come across them at all.

"You'll probably just make it stronger. Corruption in itself is negative energy and Witches feed on those so..." Yuri said with an awkward tone as she twiddled her thumbs.

"Let's not do that. We're just making Yukina more deadly by the second," Sai cleared her throat as she downed her drink. She seemed to sober up fast from your dangerous line of thinking, "In any case, let's move to the next topic."

"The hunt then?" You asked with a raised eyebrow. However before Sai could continue to speak, a furry white thing landed in front of you.

Kyubey then turned to you and looked at you in the eye, "You know, it would be so much easier if you can just skip all the steps and wish for the culprit here."

You blinked in surprise before Sai grabbed Kyubey by the tail and tossed him aside. She gave you a big smile then as you jerked your head to see where Kyubey flew. Sai held your chin and had you keep looking at her.

"One piece of advice. Do not under any circumstances make a contract with Kyubey," Sai advised you while Yuri watched the other magical girl put Kyubey in a trash bag.

"Why?" You wondered with a confused tone.

"Because it's more convenient for you not to have your emotions be a liability that can get you killed. Your seeds only get corrupted the more you use them so you have a way better deal than us," Sai said as she tapped your forehead, "Got it?"

Yuri coughed and swallowed, "Except for the whole being hunted part."

"I see. I'll keep that in mind," you replied with a small smile.

"Now with that said, the plan is relatively simple. Given that you're already a high profile target you're bound to be attacked sooner or later. You should take care to be in guard," Sai advised you with a serious look. She then crossed her arms and jerked her hand at the girl by the bar, "That over there is Chise. She'll be monitoring you in case something happens. We'll be notified and a team will be immediately sent to help you. Information is our key goal here, the more we know, the better we're off."

The magical girl named Chise took a sip of her own drink before nodding your way. You acknowledged her with a nod of your own as you glanced back at Sai.

"So I'll be a bait then. Figures," you shrugged as you closed your eyes, "Still, if it brings me closer to my goal then it's all for the better."

"Good. Then we can finally have dinner. Kaito! Food!" Sai yelled as the youth waved her off to go make some food.

Sai giggled alongside Yuri then. You couldn't help but smile lightly at this.

.....
....
...

Sleeping. It was a strange concept to be subjected to. You simply laid on the spare during in a storage room as you stared up the ceiling. The shop had closed up an hour ago and you were left alone with Yuri. The younger girl had finally fallen asleep, the day's events no doubt tiring her out.

You couldn't sleep. Or more like you didn't know how. You decided to stand up and leave to step out of the storage room you were in. It was cold the moment you stepped into the hall. The smell of cheap beer hung in the air as well as some other variety of alcohol. Not too long ago this place was packed with adults.

The lights were off and it seemed eerie. You walked around the bar in your pajamas before sitting on a stool by the counter. You observed the empty room before you closed your eyes. You could feel them, the negativity, the people's grief and you could see their outlines.

"Every single day, the Manager works me to the bone."

"Wife's out again. She's probably playing with a younger guy."

"We're going into the red this month again. Well, nothing we could do than drown our despair."

"That's the fifth job interview. I'll kill them. I swear. I'll make them accept me!"

You opened your eyes and the negative outlines vanished. You were instead looking down on a furry white creature looking at you with its beady red eyes through the darkness.

"So have you decided on your wish yet, Yukina?" Kyubey asked you.

"Wish... It's always wishes with you. There's still a lot I don't understand. I don't think I can wish for anything meaningful," you admitted as you shook your head.

"It doesn't have to be meaningful. Just wish what you want. After all, if it's something you want, shouldn't you get it?" Kyubey asked as it hopped up a table and sat down, "It's well within your power, you know? It could all be over now. For every moment you spend idle, someone could get hurt!"

"What happens to others doesn't concern me. What matters is I catch the Killer and bring them to light," you replied as you crossed your arms, "I don't understand why you're so insistent."

"It's all for the greater good, Yukina," Kyubey said as it nodded.

"Spare me the preaching," you shook your head with a sigh.

"Well if you've made up your mind, you know where to find me. You have immense potential, you know? You should put it to good use," Kyubey said as it scratched its head.

"Potential?" You frowned.

"Yes. It's what dictates just how powerful your wish will be," Kyubey hummed as swayed its tail behind its back. It stood up and stepped towards you, "You have a great potential, meaning you have the ability to touch so many lives and make so much difference."

If you wanted to make a wish, this would be a great time. No one will know but you. And no one can stop you either. It was tempting to say the least.

[X] "No wonder no one likes you. You're always parroting the same response. You would make for a nice but broken recorder."

But tempting was all it was to you. You made up your mind and you refused to compromise or let this go any further. Besides, this conversation will just lead to nowhere even if you both had the patience to talk forever. You would opt to do that some other time.

You crossed your arms as you sighed, "No wonder no one likes you. You're always parroting the same response. You would make for a nice but broken recorder."

"I try my best to be good at conversation. It helps me foster good relations with my contracted girls so that I can support them well," Kyubey asked it tilted its head.

"If that's what you deem good relations then I'd hate to see what bad relations mean with you," you replied with a tired tone. You walked up to it and patted it's head, "You're pretty stupid, huh?"

"My intelligence is simply enough for me to accomplish my required mission which is to aid in the eradication of Witches," Kyubey said as you scratched under its chin.

You stepped back and turned away, "Sure, whatever you say. I'm going to bed now."

"Do GriefBorne even sleep? It seems like a fruitless endeavor," Kyubey commented as you walked to the storage room.

You raised a hand in response, "Good night, Kyubey."

"Good night, Yukina," Kyubey said as it stared at you from the darkness. Its beady red eyes was all you could see from where you stood.

Opening the door to your room, you stepped in and closed it.

You dreamed of a grassy field. It was bright and sunny but there was no one around. You turned your gaze to a hill and found yourself drawn to it. Your legs seemed to move on their own as you climbed the hill, rising higher and higher with every step.

Cicadas sung at the distance as you climbed. It was strange, you being in this place. Was this how dreams worked? You didn't understand but you were more than willing to explore. You climbed and climbed until you reached the very top where you found chairs.

Two chairs.

A cold breeze blew overhead as the clouds raced above you. You stared at the two chairs and reached out. You touched the purple chair and watched as the ground changed. The grass wilted and turned to sand, every greenery and ponds dried up turning to sand.

It spread far and wide as you watched the lush paradise full of life turn into a barren wasteland of ruins and sand. You looked down your hand and looked at the purple chair as it oozed with black liquid. It snakes down the sands and latched on to your arm.

You could feel so much grief, negativity beyond recognition filled the oozing black mass as it climbed up your arm. You stepped back before the structure of the chair melted into the black tar. It attacked and dragged you down to your knees. It climbed up your neck.

"Stop... Stop!" You cried out as the corruption covered your entire body. You gasped as you tried breaking free, "Stop!"

A girl stood before you as you were being swallowed by the black mass. You were drowning. It was diving in your throat and filling up your insides. You couldn't breathe as you held your hand up to the dark skies. You saw black feather drift within your vision.

You held up your hand and ignited it. Searing hot rainbow flames erupted from your hand to run across your body. Burning through the black tar you incinerated all traces of the foul substance from your form. You gasped and fell down your knees as you grit your teeth.

The rainbow fire danced around you and burned the black substance on the ground as you looked at their source. A girl with purple eyes met your gaze as she looked down on you. You... Didn't recognize who it was but she stood before you with a weapon and a shield.

Her form crumbled just as she twisted into a more abstract appearance. A Witch hung before you with the appearance of a two dimensional film reel. It showed you of images, scenes of magical girls in the strips that came from within it.

It showed of tragedies and hopeful meetings as girls all around you fought and struggled. You turned to the Witch and frowned as you stood before her. You could feel her presence as she attacked.

"Your name is Lachesis," you declared just as the strips of film stopped before they could plunge into you.

She hesitated as you held up your finger and touched a strip of her reel. It burned bright rainbow as you stared her form down. She thrashed and tried to put out the fire. Lashing out with her strips, you burned her with your fire as you walked towards her.

A bundle of negativity. A creature of raw human grief given form by its sheer will. Twisted by her own emotions and desires, she was forced to live her days as a monster, barely aware of anything until she was struck down.

Lachesis attacked you again but you simply burned her strips. All of scenes and images burned as you dared her to harm you. You were stronger than her, than any of them, that was why you used them. You wielded them because they were implanted in you, not by choice. Clearly the Seeds had no desire to be bound to your inferior form.

But even as they squirmed inside you, you will make them submit.

"Why are you showing me this?" You asked her as you looked around the burning images, "Why attack me?"

The Witch remained still as she sized you up. She was afraid of you as she let out a croaking noise to change the landscape of your dream. You stood on top of a building instead of the Barren wastelands that you had created. It was a high skyscraper that gave you a view of a wondrous city of glass.

You looked down and felt an eerie sense of nostalgia upon seeing the city. You felt so high as you were left breathless. You then turned back to the Witch as she crooned and lowered herself. She was obviously trying to tell you something but you just couldn't understand.

Either way, you looked at the city and were left with the feeling you should go to it. You were drawn to this brilliant city of glass. As if one flick of your hand would have it all cascading down. You jerked back your hand and clenched your fist.

"I don't know what you're doing or planning, but I will stop you if you harm me again. That goes the same for the rest of you," you snapped as you looked around you. You knew they could hear you, "This is not our body. And I will not allow you to deface it with your wills."

There was no response as you looked back at Lachesis. You gave her a parting look before you stepped off the building and fell. You fell towards the ground as the winds howled past your face. The pavement below came at you at the speed of a truck before-

It was morning when you woke up.

You felt lighter and more energetic than before. As if she huge weight had been lifted off your shoulders. You felt for your body and noticed the seeds within you shudder. They were aware to an extent. It would be problematic for you if they kept rebelling like this.

You must consult this with Yuri...

.....
....
...

"The Witches are... Aware?" Yuri asked you as she raised her eyebrows.

"Yes. I had trouble sleeping but when I did, one of the Witches' wills came to harm me. I defeated her and made her submit... I was merely wondering if such an occurrence is normal?" You asked right back with a look of confusion.

Yuri and Kyubey glanced at one another at that before the former cleared her throat, "That's not normal at all."

"Not only that but such an occurrence is unheard of," Kyubey agreed as it consumed some pancakes. It tried speaking with a mouthful but abandoned the effort to swallow. Once it was done it then said, "Truly this age's Magical Girl are amazing. In your terms, it could be considered heretical even were this the yesteryears."

"But if you can provide maintenance to your seeds by exerting your will upon the Witches, then all the better. If you can keep them in line, then you'll be one step to proving you're harmless!" Yuri said with an excited look.

You smiled at her then before the door to the bar opened. Sai stepped in with Kaito, her attention going straight towards you as she had a grin on her face.

"Hey kids, wanna see a dead body?" She immediately asked.

"But I am one," you replied with a dry tone.

"What's wrong, Sai?" Yuri asked with a concerned tone.

"A couple of girls from Reika's troupe were killed. I think it's our Assassin friend catching on to your survival," Sai nodded as she glanced at you.

"Killed? How and when?" You questioned her as you stood up.

"Last night. Their bodies are under a bridge now," Sai said as she crossed her arms, "You want to go?"

"Yes. We might find a clue... Or something," you said with a nod.

"Right. Yuri, stay here," Sai quickly ordered.

"But I want to help out," Yuri said with a frown.

"You're still in trouble for stealing organization Grief Seeds. Consider this house arrest. Kaito will be feeding you," Sai said as she crossed her arms. She then looked at you, "So... How good are you as a detective?"

[X] "Let us go, Watson."

You stared up at Sai as you got up from your seat. You fixed up your tie and placed a hand on your hip as you gave her a confident reply, "Let us go, Watson."

Sai seemed taken aback by that before shooting Yuri a confused look.

"She found Kaito's Sherlock Holmes book a few hours ago in storage," Yuri sheepishly reported while looking aside.

Sai didn't bother asking for further details as she turned to you, "Please don't act weird."

"Understood," you nodded as you held up your hand to have Kyubey hop up it to jump on your shoulder.

"Well you two seem like good friends," Sai pointed out as she glanced at Kyubey.

"Is that how it looks?" Kyubey asked with a tilt of its head.

"I don't mind," you followed up with a nod.

"You know, it starts getting weird knowing you two aren't completely right in the head," Sai sighed as she crossed her arms, "Come along, you two. And Kyubey, no wish contracting."

"I will make no promises, Aoyama Sai," Kyubey replied as it hung on your shoulder. You followed the older woman as you waved goodbye at Yuri.

You can only hope that this venture will yield something of note. You and Sai took the elevator down the shop to step out into the busy downtown streets of the city. It was different from the night before now that daylight was out and there were more people around.

More cars drove by as trucks took to the busy streets to get to their destination. Speaking of cars, Sai had her own parked in front of your building as you got in the back seat. Kyubey settled by your side as you looked around while Sai started the car.

Soon enough, you three we driving down the road.

"You sleep well? It must have been an experience," Sai piped up as she glanced at you from the mirror.

"It was. My bodily functions still seem to be working well enough. I experience discomfort should I not attend to them. It's different considering I'm supposed to be a dead body," you admitted as you looked at your blackened nails before touching the scar around your neck.

"Well them's the brakes. I hope that was within Yuri's expectations or else you'll just be an uncanny, flesh robot. I do hope you don't mind," Sai coughed as she kept her eyes in the road.

"It makes me feel more Human to say the least," you nodded.

Kyubey glanced up at you as it spoke, "Well if you ask me, Yukina would perform more efficiently had she been rid of such unnecessary functions. Without the need to eat or drink, she would be a perfect fighter."

"I don't think Yuri would like to hear that," Sai said as she grimaced.

"It's simply illogical given that the nutrients taken from food won't be converted into energy. Neither will the act serve any purpose given that Yukina runs purely on negative energy," Kyubey continued in its observation of you.

You raised your hand and simply petted the white ball of fluff, "It's fine. I like it."

"I don't get it at all," Kyubey admitted in a confused tone.

"Perhaps you don't have to," you told it as you gently stroked its head.

"You do know that Kyubey is partially responsible for our pains and struggled right?" Sai asked as she glanced at you.

You blinked in confusion at that, "Huh?"

"I... Well, don't you think it's strange that we're offered a contract to essentially be forced to fight for the rest of our lives in exchange for a miracle wish?" Sai pointed out as she continued down the road. She kept her hand on the wheel as she clicked her tongue, "That and Kyubey does it at our most vulnerable moment too, without telling us about turning into monsters or dying so easily at every turn?"

"It's because you girls never ask," Kyubey tried saying but you simply stroked it harder to silence it.

"It's strange? It doesn't seem strange. It seems wrong. In fact it is," you observed as you looked down at Kyubey. You looked straightened in your seat as you crossed your arms, "However I am not equipped to form my own opinion on the matter. On principle it is wrong but until it affects me directly in another matter, I have no reason to treat Kyubey other than an annoying parrot."

"What sound rationalization of the current state of affairs. If only more girls were like you, Yukina!" Kyubey said until you lifted it up by the air and shook it lightly.

"Now that I sufficiently spoken on your behalf, would you spare me your incessant contract prattle for most of the day in exchange?" You asked it with a raised eyebrow.

"If it would please, you then I accept," Kyubey said before you dropped it by your side.

"Just hearing you two talk is like Siri and Alexa interacting with one another, geez," Sai groaned as she stopped by the intersection.

You and Kyubey remained silent for the rest of the trip. Apparently Kyubey can be reasoned with, it seemed to hold you in higher regard than it did before. This meant that the contract preaching will be twice as annoying later. Your patience was long, you could reason with it.

You hoped.

What was a magical girl? They were girls that were granted wishes in exchange for their souls to be encased outside their bodies. They gained strength and heightened combat ability in order to face their natural enemy, the Witches. They lived and struggled to keep their souls shining in spite of the chaotic years of their adolescence.

They were at risk of true death upon the destruction of their Soul Gems, the container of their souls. Which was why they must protect it in battle. Another lesser known fact among the younger girls was that their enemies, the Witches, were former Magical Girls whose gems had hatched into twisted monstrosities.

Many things darkened soul gems. Grief, anger, sadness, despair, all things negative really. Using their magic would cause gems to darken. Which was why they needed grief seeds in order to purge their corruption.

The way the two girls died before you spared them a magical girl's ultimate fate. What they got instead was a quick yet gruesome end. Long before you even approached the crime scene you could see the air of negativity like a cloud of smoke from a burning building. Grief and curses hung over the Bridge. It would no doubt attract a Witch or two to the scene if nothing is done.

You sensed a magic barrier around the scene of the crime as well as several magical girls of varying ages but no one in their preteens. It didn't seem like the sort of place children should be around at after all. As you approached, a smart looking girl with dark blonde hair approached from the side. She seemed to be wearing a thick jacket over a sweater. Blue eyes hid behind her thick glasses as her a crystal earring hung from her right ear.

"Sai. You arrived fast," the girl said as she held her hands in her pocket.

Sai smiled and nodded, "Mika, you doing good?"

"Yeah. For the most part. Still wondering what caused this mess before we notify the police," Mika said as she glanced at you. She winced and frowned once she met your gaze before she spoke to Sai, "Hey. You sure this is okay letting her out? She's a GriefBorne you know?"

"She's fine. Yukina, let me introduce you to our coroner. She's Nomura Mika, she likes poking and prodding corpses and works for a funeral home," Sai introduced the blondie much to the latter's discomfort.

Mika shoved Sai away and straightened herself, "Don't introduce me like that. Anyway, nice to meet you. I'm on the same line of work as Yuri. I help the organization find out how hard a girl gets it outside a Witch hunt."

"I see. Nice to meet you then," you bowed politely.

"She really doesn't act like the old Yukina," Mika noted with an uncertain look.

"That she doesn't. Yukina, if you're working on this case you'll be meeting with Mika a whole lot so get friendly," Sai smiled as she patted the coroner on the shoulder.

You nodded before you turned to Mika, "Can you tell us more about what happened here?"

"You sure are eager. Well, our two lovelies here were coming back from your spat in that old building a few blocks down," Mika said as she directed you to where you had been taken to yesterday. She then glanced at you and said, "Witness reports say they stopped by a ramen shop and we've confirmed that. It was afterwards that they were attacked out of the blue by someone and had their bodies dragged down here."

"Has anyone seen the attacker?" Sai asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Nope. But we can surmise that the culprit is aware of our assassin friend," Mika said as she crossed her arms.

"How so?" You asked with a curious tone.

"The Killer we're after has a signature in their killings. They rip down their victim's body before cutting their head off. It's normally done with a shoddy bladed weapon and the soul gem always goes missing," Sai said as she raised her hand. She then pressed her finger right on your chest, "That's how you were killed before."

"But why shoddy equipment? If the enemy is a magical girl then they should have their own weapon," you pointed out.

"Because we can trace them from the wounds inflicted within the area," Mika said as she rubbed her chin, "It's normally a lingering magical residue on the flesh of the victim or the ground. We can easily ID them through Kyubey soon after."

"And what about this case?" Sai asked as she looked at the girls studying the bodies strewn about beneath the bridge.

"Well the weapon used was a magical girl weapon. Or at least that's what I think. And the manner they were killed was similar to the assassin as well," Mika reported as she glanced at you, "It could be a copy cat but I'm not so sure. It could be that our friend learned some tricks to misdirect us."

"Aside from these two attacking me, were they involved in anything that would warrant them to be killed?" You asked with a frown.

"Not that we know of. If anything, Reika would know but judging from what Sai told me last night, you might be in hot water for awhile," Mika said as she grimaced.

"Then what of the magical weapon? Who did it belong to? You said you could trace it?" You reminded her with a curious tone.

"We have a suspect. We have some girls going to her now so you can probably question her," Mika said as she handed Sai a piece of paper, "Still, we can't rule out collusion of some sort here. There's no telling if this is the Assassin."

"In any case, what's interesting about this is that they were trying to mimic the Assassin by following the known modus," Sai smiled as she handed you the address, "They might know something. Yukina, what do you think we should do?"

.

Without seeing the crime scene for yourself, all that was said won't hold any weight to you. There for you could only look at the bodies from afar before glancing at Sai by your side.

"I'm going to check the bodies," you decided as you looked at Mika, "You wouldn't mind, yes?"

"Just make it quick then. Not a lot of people really comfortable around GriefBornes," Mika replied as she stepped aside to let you through.

You approached the body as the veil of grief and negativity filled the air. It was the lingering curse left by death. It was akin to black miasma right before your eyes. The magical girls observing the corpses all turned to you and Sai, your companion waving at them amicably

The girls all got out of your way to go speak to Sai. They seemed happy to see her and fawned over her. Sai sent you a wink while she distracted the other magical girls. It seemed like she was friends with these girls. You should use this time to observe the bodies.

Kneeling down before them, you held up your hand and parted the air of negativity which surrounded the corpses. The magical girls weren't able to see it but it still hindered you in your work. Looking down, you soon came to recognize one of the bodies.

The first was the saber girl that kicked your back in the abandoned building. The other was a girl that had stood by Reika's side back then. These two were involved in Yuri's kidnapping yesterday. They weren't dressed in those ridiculous black suits but they were in their civilian attire.

The saber girl had her torso ripped open just as her head was turned away to face down after it was beheaded. The same could be said for the other girl. You looked to the side and noticed that the saber girl had lost a hand somewhere. Was it chopped off? Then that meant there had been a fight.

But...

Standing up, you looked beneath the bridge and the surrounding area. It was within a Barrier that kept civilians away. But there was no sign of fighting here. The battle must have taken place somewhere else. This means they were brought here soon after.

You couldn't help but wonder. Yukina was a renowned magical girl that has fought countless battles. Nothing less than a professional on her leveled could have killed her. And while you didn't have much experience yourself, the Assassin could have taken care of these girls quietly. So for them to fight back must mean something.

Even just by observing and by guessing, you could see that this wasn't the work of your target. You held out your hand and knelt down, touching the corpse's leg-

Nana died.

A flash of blue and the killing blow was blocked only for a presence behind to cut your hand.

Two. There was tw-

You closed opened your eyes as you saw a trail of grief. That can probably lead you to the place where the fight happened. Holding your left arm, you felt your body shudder as the Seeds responded to the negativity in the air.

They squirmed within your flesh as you closed your eyes. Stepping back, you felt a hand on your shoulder as Mika steadied you.

"You all right?" She asked with a frown.

"This... Isn't where they died," you breathed as you looked at the trail, "There wasn't one assailant either. There were two. It was an ambush of some sort."

Mika had her eyes widen before frowning, "An ambush by two people? Are you sure of this? Do you have an ability that told you what happened?"

"It's muddy. But we can surmise as much with mundane observation. Tell me, have you cleaned out the area?" You asked her with a frown.

"My magic allows me to perform a wide area scan. We tried looking for Soul Gem shards and magic signatures but nothing concrete was found," Mika said as she shook her head.

"If it's an ambush then that means these girls must have enemies. Enemies that are willing to use the Assassin's modus as smoke screen to lure us off," Sai said as she walked towards you, "We can deduce a lot of things just for that. The culprits' notice could be personal or not. If it's the former we're lucky but if it's the latter..."

Mika blanched before grimacing at that, "Those Tokyo bitches..."

"We can't assume that until we get more evidence. How goes the questioning of the magical weapon detected here?" You asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Nothing yet. But you, GriefBorne," Mika said as she crossed her arms, "You have a lead?"

"I have trail we can follow. But I'd like to investigate this place some more," you told her with a nod. Mika and Sai allowed that as they went to speak with one another.

The culprit did a sloppy job after all. You might just get lucky. You walked up to the corpses and looked at their bare biceps. Bruised with some discoloration on the skin. That was where the culprits held them as they were brought here.

Just because you had magic doesn't mean you could disregard these things. Prints. You glanced at the magical girls present and stood up, walking up to them you cleared your throat.

"Oh, hi!" A young woman greeted you as she broke off from her friends.

"Do you girls have the ability to identify finger prints?" You asked them with a curious tone.

"Well we do have a girl that can help you with that. But we haven't found any prints on the victims' person," the girl shrugged with an uncertain look.

"It's on their flesh. They were handled quite roughly so I simply looked at where they could have been touched. You can check the heads too if you want," you suggested as you crossed your arms.

"I see. Well if we find anything, we can ID them with Mina over there. She's a snoop so she can probably pull someone up," the girl said as she glanced at her friends, "Let's go, Team!"

"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"

The forensic girls went back to study the corpses as Sai walked up to you.

"Found anything?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.

"We have a trail and possibly some names soon. It's just a matter of what we're going to actively pursue," you replied with a nod.

"Listen, if this was an external party then that war might be closer than I think. We have to figure this one out quick," Sai told you with a serious look.
