…One minute before HYDRA Attack

SHIELD really teaches you to appreciate the smaller things in life, you think to yourself. At least this time your only opponents are men with guns, not unkillable gods or specters from the Fear Dimension.

Your name is Damien Cane, and your job is normally playing bodyguard for SHIELD scientists and their pet abominations against God and man. Today, you fight Nazis.

After almost two decades of watching some of the world's best and brightest try to design the most interesting apocalypse scenarios possible, an invasion of Nazi scientists is almost refreshing in its simplicity. Of course, the only thing worse than a Nazi is a surprise Nazi, and red alerts across the base seem to indicate a surprisingly large number of your comrades have a fetish for world domination.

Pressing the High Alert button, well polished from use, you draw the two pistols under your desk and ready yourself for whatever comes next…

Research Lab
…Three minutes after HYDRA attack

The pursuit of science has always been fraught with conflict. Its very nature demands that one challenges the status quo and success means defying those who came before you.

However, you think to yourself, the hole in your boss's head seems a touch too literal for your tastes.

Your name is Andrea Smith, a SHIELD scientist, and you are in quite a bit of danger.

What precisely you are in danger from is still in question. Most immediately you are threatened by Michael, your (presumably) former coworker, who seems intent on becoming Head Researcher via the laws of the jungle. God knows he would never get it any other way.

Observing from a position of dubious safety in an empty sample cabinet, you watch your irate colleague briefly scan your lab space. Fortunately, Michael proves that his skills in situational awareness equal his intellectual prowess and misses you completely.

You watch as he turns his back to you and begins to type on the central computer. Normally that would not be a concern but your rapidly cooling superior makes the action significantly more suspicious. You are further worried when he plugs in a suspiciously slick flash drive, which appears to bypass the login screen.

Alarms begin to shout indicating whatever is going on has been noticed, but doesn't seem to deter Michael beyond making him tenser.

Hopefully, he doesn't do anything too stupid… oh dear.

Subject Containment Chamber 028
…Ten minutes after HYDRA attack

You would say that you've had worse wake up calls, but honestly this is pretty bad.

Claxon alarms berate your ears and red lights flash, indicating you are either under attack or that the alarm system is in desperate need of a manual shutdown, preferably with C4.

You name is Unimportant and you have a headache.

Rising from what appears to be a hospital bed, you take note of your surroundings. The medical equipment and nightstand imply treatment center, the steel walls and blast door imply containment center.

As you ponder this, the door to your room/cell springs open. Again you consider the whether or not you are a prisoner as armed men flood into the room. Accompanying the armed guards is a man in a suit. The guards proceed to stand at attention and, in a move as baffling as it was horrifying, give Nazi salute in the name of HYDRA.

Well, that makes the next couple of minutes simple. Before the Suit Nazi can say a word you step forward and punch him in the face. By the way his eyes boggle as he flew backward you assume he didn't expect that.

Actually, as you watch the man fly backward through the door, he may just be surprised at your strength. You've always exercised and ate right, but that was a ludicrous amount of force.

Speaking of ludicrous force, you feel some light pressure on your skin as the guards around you open fire. It appears you are bulletproof, useful that.

You had a rough start today, but it looks like it's going to be an interesting day nonetheless.

Focus On:
[] Damien Cain:
Higher chance to save personnel (Not Andrea or Subject 28)
[] Andrea Smith: Higher chance to save Project data
[] Subject 28: Higher chance to recover HYDRA intel

AN:
Alright! This is the opener to Project BULWARK, a MCU Adventure CK2 quest.

This starts during Winter Soldier when HYDRA is revealed, your first objective is to get out of the base alive with whatever you can carry.

The universe I'm working with is a hodgepodge of the Marvel movies and TV, plus a bit of wiki-research. Assume everything in the MCU before Winter Soldier as canon, though the later stuff may vary a bit for flavor.

More details about the main quest mechanics will be revealed after you leave the facility. The next few parts will determine what exactly you start out with, and who is going to be the leader. That is not the decision you are making now, but something to think on. The CK2 elements will be introduced after the prologue.

Any questions or comments I would be happy to answer either in the thread of by PM

If anyone wants to beta for me I would very much appreciate it, please PM me.

...You... you replied to this almost immediately after I posted this. How fast is your internet that you went from opening a new thread, reading it, and replying to it almost instantly.

I'm impressed.

So I'm a little confused... by Adventure Quest do you mean the internet browser MMO or something else?

EDIT: Wait... By adventure you probably mean as in this Quest is Adventure themed. Not the old Flash game. I feel dumb.

To clarify this:

By Adventure I mean that there will be 'Adventure' sequences where central characters do things outside of making decisions from a home base.

In essence there are two 'levels' of gameplay: strategic and tactical.

You use a CK2 interface to make broader decisions about your organization as a whole. You use an 'Adventure' interface to make decisions about immediate obstacles.

This current sequence is an 'Adventure' section, where our starting main characters are fighting HYDRA in the Project BULWARK base (Who if they survive will likely become strategic advisors) .

My hope is that these two modes will complement each other: with strategic decisions granting tactical objectives and advantages like intel and equipment, and Adventures granting strategic advantages and research opportunities.

There are a couple of very good examples of this in this site. I'm hoping to emulate from them while also putting my own spin on it.

(Sorry if I'm over explaining here, this is all probably going to find it's way into an info post soon. Thank you for asking!)
