Price of Blood [Worm fanfic] (Complete)

On the other hand it might just be enough to spread doubt and questions enough to keep her ass out of that grave. By not denying anything and painting the locker as less important as well as Taylor as a liar there are additional steps being put into the information loop. Further we have confirmation that Armsmasters's lie detector isn't quite up to snuff yet so that easy verification is gone.

Just a few more people lying to cover themselves and Taylor could be seriously up the creek. Blackwell, a few girls, and that might be all it takes along with this not being her trigger event to turn, "I don't know what happened I was unconscious." from acceptable explanation to outright lie. And the time and effort to discover that all those people are lying instead of Taylor could take just too long to come into the light.

Add things like, "I can only control them over a 4 block radius" and then the swarmbringer swarm being larger could be taken as further evidence she's a liar.

She's spinning her own story so that by the time they start asking other people (she hopes) they'll recall what she said and downplay what they say.

What can I say? The Big Lie works.
She better hopes it works against a Lie Detector, because if there was a situation when its use was guaranteed is this one and while AM does not have the helmet, near instantaneuos version ready I bet that considering the magnitude and severity of the investigation he can have a desktop model with a less-than-instantaneous-but-still-pretty-fast version ready after he hears exactly who was leading the mob that started this whole mess.

The problem is he won't find that information out. The only one's who know about it are Sophia and the dead. (to my understanding) though in story the tension is raised by only two bodies being found right next to her so its possible one or more got away to talk.

That's the general idea that Sophia's heading for, yes.

There are three more jocks that didn't stay behind once Taylor outed herself, so they're likely alive and there's also likely evidence linking them to the "prank".

In particular, I was thinking that saying the locker incident wasn't as bad as it was made out to be when it put Taylor in the psychiatric ward for a full week is pretty blatant. Then again, people do see what they want to see, I guess.

Yea, but Armsy already pulled out informations about Taylor stay in the hospital, she would not land there if there were no reason, also I think he is able to pull up her health history and what kind of damage she suffered, so her little lie will be very short lived.

Los Angeles, huh? Not sure if putting her under Alexandria is a good idea. Considering how much Taylor has a problem with authority, she'd need a gentler approach and Alexandria seems like one who runs a tight ship.

Also, did Armsmaster just make a joke? Last time I saw that happen in a Worm fic, Brockton Bay was indulging in vast amounts of Insight.

If that happens the question is: will she be connected as one of the perpetrators, or simply considered to have failed in her job and covering her ass?

Taylor is going to flip out and probably get caged. Sophia needs to get her story straight with everyone. Emily is lenient somewhat but dosen't take shit. Talk shit get hit. Armsmaster follows the law a little too well.

Well, it all depend on Armsy and Piggot.
Would they consider a "lying to their faces" about important facts of current investigation, as something worthy of its own investigation?

SS evidently lied to them that Locker was a "lie prepared by Taylor for an attention"

Fun times ahead, and there can be a lot of hole in Sophia's story. The point being that all it takes if for Taylor to point towards Sophia when they question her and the situation will get into mud. Armsy will not resist and investigate the situation, i think Madison will instantly break if she is faced with Piggy+MM+Amsy.

Also Taylor has a diary, a long diary written across a large time period Tinker analysis of it should show the age of the writing and put more holes into any story Sophia adds.

I'm fine with the depiction as it stands, but an alternative (with interesting parallels) would be to have Taylor go through what Emma goes through - i.e. Thugs stop her and her father, they hurt her father, while restraining her, perhaps by throwing her into a dumpster, and Taylor freaks the fuck out. It's an even closer parallel to the locker in some ways, except worse, because she's trapped, suffering, in filth, *and she can perceive her father being assaulted through her power*. Have Taylor pass out do to injuries before her bugs have cleared out the gangers, and you can have a similar scenario, with the added bonus that circumstances could make it look like her father triggered, not her (last order likely being "Attack Thugs, Protect Danny").

The problem I'm having with Sophia's lie is that there is a police report with pictures, and a hospital report that shows she was covered in filth to the point that they were worried about septic shock.

She should know this, but her lie seems to ignore this.

On the other hand, if her lie somehow works, then it will make it seem like this incident was Taylor's trigger event.

Actually, the real problem with the 'Big Lie' Sophia is spinning is that there's way to much provable, hard evidence against it.

Two parts mainly are where she's going to be tripped up. The first is the locker, way to much hospital and psychiatric hospital evidence against what she said. The second is on who Taylor speaks up against. Yes, if Taylor woke up and named her 'bullies', Sophia could just claim it was Taylor speaking out against her because she was popular, but

"Oh, usually it's just random. Whoever's most popular that week, I guess."

runs into the massive physical evidence that Taylor has collected against just Sophia, Emma, and Madison. Yes, her diaries and email addresses would normally be useless in court, but as a bump in the road for the 'Big Lie' to run over, it's more like a bump and a sink hole right under it.

Sophia's lies won't hold up to scrutiny, but they're in character for what she knows of the situation (pretty much nothing)

On the other hand I think Piggot's back and forth with Armsmaster was a bit off.. I kept reading it in the voice of a.. liberal college student maybe? So far the fic seems to be focusing on information control and the craftiness of the bit players (unless I'm way off?) and Piggot just seems to be .. reacting.. in a way that is almost counter to her percieved hard-line attitude.
tbh it feels like a lot of the forum discussion is leaking in to Piggot. Reacting to the events with empathy/horror/worry as opposed to (say) disgust/anger/pity .

I know there's no reason for Armmaster to suspect her, but when this happens, I wish that the PRT just drops dead.

And so begins the game of cat and mouse in which Sophia believes she's the tiger stalking her prey when the truth is that she's nothing more than a overgrown rat with a Huntsman Spider hanging over her head.

... that could actually have worked.

Of course, implementing it now would involve a MASSIVE rewrite of both chapters from the ground up, from the beginning on in.

The only hassle I would have would be why did the gangers hurt Taylor so badly before throwing her in the dumpster?

So were the deaths other that the core five random or were they good samaritans getting tagged as foes by helping someone being attacked by the swarm.

The last order she gave was "attack" - open-ended without specifying the targets. At most she subconsciously targeted the bullies who she couldn't see and only knew they were human. Insects aren't smart enough to choose targets and QA isn't good at finding subtext. The result is every living creature within range of Taylor (aside from Taylor and other insects) is a target for the "attack" command. The deaths were those people unlucky enough to have allergies or to be too close to Taylor and thus the densest concentration of insects, plus being furthest from safety.
