Price of Blood [Worm fanfic] (Complete)

Eh. Lots of special ops guys are skinny-strong ("wiry", I think is the word?) They're not all hulking Carl-Weathers-and-Schwarzenegger-in-Predator types.
Yes, but he's described as being so thin that you can see his ribs through his costume. Not necessarily weak, but not particularly strong, either. I got the impression that it's because he binges on all his vices in one reality and then drops it, leaving only his stingy reality.

You might be right about canon, it clearly doesn't apply in this story. In this story he's the leader of a squat of PRT troops, not something you can get without being in very good shape.

Canonically, by this point he's commanding a PRT strike team. And also canonically, he's skinny as a rake.

So apparently one does not preclude the other.

When they say 'wiry'? He really pushes the definition :p

Clearly, Coil offended a Gypsy a few years ago and dropped the timeline where he didn't because he didn't believe that her saying "Thinner" while stroking his cheek meant anything.

Or his costume has ribs of reinforcement
And presumably joints of reinforcement? That somehow don't make him seem unusually proportioned? Remember, Taylor describes him as skeletally thin. If it was Grue that described him as thin, then maybe you could argue it was an exaggeration, but not from someone who is already described as rail thin.

Yes, and we know she's a great artist, studied anatomy, and is famed for her powers of observation, and never overstates thing so there's no way she'd make a mistake in what she thought she was seeing... oh wait, we don't know any of that.

It's certainly possible that Coil was that thin, but it's also possible Taylor was wrong for any of a wide range of reasons. Since Taylor being right doesn't fit with him being in as good a shape as he's described in this story either she was wrong or it's an AU element.

For canon you have the added possibility that strike team leader is a desk job.

He was described as being so skinny you could see his ribs and joints through his costume. Granted, it was a skintight costume, but that's still pretty damn skinny and not something that can be explained away by poor observation.

He can be skilled as well as skinny. These are not mutually exclusive.
Very true. However he can't be skinny enough for Taylor to be able to count his ribs through his costume(i.e serious medical issues underweight), and also in good enough physical shape that a line like
The irritating part was that he was actually fit; as a strike team leader, he had to be. If this had been an ordinary set of stairs, he would've breezed it with little difficulty.
would make sense.

Of course it can be explained by mistaken observation - if what Taylor thought she was seeing was patterns in the costume.

Or if he was just one of those people who have abnormally low body fat.

Aren't Kenyan marathon runners (and champion marathoners in general) both very skinny and very fit (albeit, specialized in their fitness)?

Not that skinny. Being skinny enough for someone to count your ribs, especially through clothes means you're not in good shape and if you aren't a famine victim or something similar have a serious medical problem.

Well, given that Calvert was in Ellisburg, and short of some serious change in his health he would've been that skinny back then, he's obviously capable of being that skinny and performing the duties of a strike squad member/leader.
