Powder, Gears, and Blessed Steam - A WHF Engineering Quest

[X] Head to deal with the withered beastman. Something tells you the thing hiding in the branches above is a danger to everyone here and with the others occupied... It leaves you.

What's the difference between regular steam and alchemical steam that allows the latter to be more compressed? Compression is influenced by vessel and pump strength mainly I think.
I'm sure with how the Warhammer universe works, we could use alchemical means to make a liquid whose gaseous state would have more overall compression than water. Hence steam made from that liquid would have more raw power while occupying the same space while taking the same amount of energy to convert from a liquid state to a gasus one as regular water would. Basically, an alchemically souped-up version of steam.

Yeah, seems a pretty reasonable idea to come up with if you start messing around with air compression at some point.
Just so you know, if someone could make a gun made of steam in real life that could reasonably fire 20 bullets a minute, we'd better be able to have a heavier maybe 2-man-operated wheeled version of this gun with a heavy tank full of alchemical steam and a bb-gun like container with maybe 500-700 lead/stone balls that can be funneled into the barrel to shoot maybe 100-200 rounds per minute.

I'm going to use this post as a bit of a jumping off point to alchemy in Warhammer in general. My apologies if this goes too far into the weeds. With that said Alchemy in the Empire is many things because it has a confusing and complicated origin.
  1. On the one hand much like in our own world alchemy is the precursor of chemistry, dealing with alloying, the making of gunpowder, Greek Fire and other purely physical processes. Nonetheless it is distinct for the most part from the herbcraft of so called hedge wizards and rural healers. Alchemy is for the most part an urban game and some part of its precepts may have been passed on when the dwarfs uplifted the bronze age tribes of Signmar's confederation into the modern Empire pretty much. I suspect a lot of what Margret knows from her grandpa falls into this bucket
  2. Going a step deeper Alchemy is the use of magic, specifically the magic bound in physical things, earthbound magic, that is you grind up the magical salt from Pond A and mix it with the droppings of the rare Sylvanian Red Faced Forest Bat and Voila, you have a powder that sets granite on fire. Far less volatile entirely incapable of tearing a hole into hell to let the demons out (something alarmingly common in the setting) this branch of alchemy has been practiced even when all arcane magic was outlawed due to both being recognized as such by religious authorities and also because nobles really liked both the wealth and military power if produced
  3. Finally Alchemy is a form of Gold magic, Chamon the Wind of Reason and Logic. This is proper magic, the kind that up until two hundred years ago would get you burned at the stake and the kind that is actually quite hard for a human to even use because the mindset you need to keep the wind pure is unnatural, but that is not really very relevant to us. Margret is not a practitioner of true Wind Magic. What is relevant though it that the Gold College is also a repository of the other two kinds of Alchemy because they were drawn from the ranks of non-wizard alchemists so that if we do get some contacts there we could learn quite a lot

If you make use of the magical things scattered throughout the setting it is most likely possible. I will simply note that using Alchemy to achieve things with technology that it shouldn't be capable of doing will require collecting and researching items of an inherently magical nature to blend into your creations. What exactly you all can achieve with it will be based solely on how much you find and manage to understand enough of to actually use.

Alchemy isn't a guaranteed ticket to success, some of the things you research with it might be completely useless to your goals and others extremely useful but so rare and unique that production beyond just personal use is impossible.

Yeah. Definitely a mage. Definitely needs to die.

Also iirc Shamans were noted as the highest prize for the hunt, so killing them adds a big chunk of money to the reward the Walkers and us get ontop of being good sense tactically :D

What are the ergonomics of repeaters like as an aside they look like a nightmare to handle and reload.
Hmm, a quick google search came up with this design from the Vermintide 2 game, which I believe is pretty much canon.
Keep in mind that one's not made by our incredibly skilled foster dad, so Gromdottir is likely much more ergonomic. Probably still takes a long time to reload however.
