Powder, Gears, and Blessed Steam - A WHF Engineering Quest

[x] 3 Underwall Road - A former warehouse involved in some form of ore smelting being put up for sell by a Dwarf. It is a rather sizable place that will come only with an old smelter in the back and some wooden crates, but it should be proof against any larger scale projects you want to take up. Of course, there is a rather concerning catch now that you know the lay of the land: It is right on the edge of Red Woodsmen turf.

Apologies if this was asked, but can we buy the alchemical tools off that woman as a one time payment and bring them to another property, or is that property the only one constructed sturdily enough for it to be safe? I was thinking if we got that and our own property we could begin working on a powderworks for our clients and the locals as a stable source of income.

It'll be an available action next turn if you move into one of the other properties, yeah.

Very nice, that will be a valuable acquisition.

I also realized that with our steam bonuses we can probably rush the aelopile without using all of our other actions, which is cool (and good).

Remember, we don't necessarily need to succeed on the aelopile, just "make progress towards working with steam". Even if we fail we've still likely made progress.

Hmm, we're not gonna be able to afford buying the Underwall location, grabbing that stuff next turn, and do the Aeolipile action since it's Cost 1.
Aeolipile (Difficulty 3, Cost 1) - An incredible rudimentary form of boiler that utilizes the generated steam from the boiler to spin a radial engine of sorts thus creating small amounts of power. You doubt it could pull even a child with the created force, but... Some tweaks here, refinements there. Experiments are coiling endlessly in your mind.
Hopefully the old lady won't toss it out for another turn.

We can do a couple more actions to arm the road walkers. That ought to find us enough.
Iirc we don't get the results of that until the end of the turn. Unless adwarf allows us to temporarily go into debt, we'll only have 1 Wealth to spend next turn in the likely event Undrerwall wins.

You won't get the Wealth until the end of the turn, but a reminder one of your Favor options with the Road Walkers does let you convert Favor to Wealth if so desired.

That'll work. And it'll raise our credit if we pay them back (either with flintlocks or actual money) especially if we tell them that we can probably use the alchemy set to make gunpowder. It's a tier 2 craft, and difficulty 3, so not easy but doable.

Not sure if I voted yet so I'll toss this in. The code doesn't count multiple posts form the same person right?

Well, we got inspiration just by exploring the city. So new stuff to invent. I say we build up some money before we start traveling around and explore to get more inspiration to fulfill our steam punk inventions.

So that means we see the steam ships at least once to get inspiration. So maybe some dwarf coastline if steam exist yet.
I'd include a major center of textile production in that itinerary as well. Historically, powering spinning jennies was one of the two major use cases that allowed for steam engines to be developed to the point of mass adoption*. If we manage to get those in widespread use, I think we will have officially started the Industrial Revolution.

* In case anyone is curious, the other one, the which allowed steam engines to be developed to the point they could be used to spin cloth was pumping water out of flooded coal mines. However, I don't think many mines in the Old World are below sea level. The problem is more commonly too many forests to use for making charcoal instead of not enough. The only ones I can see doing it at any real scale are the Dwarfs and maybe the Skaven, neither of whom are options for us.

Steam powered pumps (for mining) and spinning Jennie's are probably our easiest monetization options, but I don't think our current region is that well developed they could be used.
