Philosopher's Tinker (Worm)

so what your saying is there was no experiment by the MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms that subjected light/photons to absolute zero temperatures where the photons started to slow down and clump together and gain mass?

damn i don't understand science speak
No and do not twist my words.
Cold atoms are Not cold light.
The atoms present a low energy substrate but it is not temperature about the photons themselves that is changing.

The following plan is improved to get rid of the risk of outing ourselves unnecessarily over things we can more safely obtain, to maintain self-consistency and effectiveness in our research by getting rid of certain misconceptions, inconsistencies, and grammatical issues:

[] Plan: Strange learnings and cool lasers
-[][Flaw] Fix capacity (Fuel capacity is no longer halved).
-[][Steal] No stealing…for now at least.
-[][Sleeping] One Action (medium chance to gain Tired)
-[][School] Two Actions (No chance to be noticed, reduces chance to be noticed from skipping)
-[][Wander] Gather resources. (Chances of getting caught depending on materials, place, and planning.)
--[] look at your trash, those glass bottles count as silicates (should have common and uncommon materials)
-[][Work] Go to work. [1/4]
-[][Research] Research something. Write in. (Researching real world events gives more information on certain things. Researching tinkertech will give you ideas about possible augments or equipment. If researching possible cores this will give you a better idea of what kind it can be (e.g. its element, possible modus operandi, possible road maps, etc.))
--[] the physics of Hardlight (2010s so should be in the time frame of Worm canon or at least in earth Aleph, wiki said the experiments occured so their should be something online about this )
-[][Tinker] Start an augment. Any ideas?
--[] If the star shooter is making light solid then it's taking energy away and exchanging it for effective mass and making it move slower even outside the Coruscant? What about it is changing the air and removing (Heat) energy in the volume of our projectiles and slowing them down? Have a mode or addon that shuts down the additional effect responsible for hardlight so you can have plain light speed lasers that can burn things; the hardlight can be the non lethal (and energy inefficient) option while the laser is the lethal option.
---[] Out-of-Character, realistically our weapon is super inefficient, has slower projectiles (lasers move at light speed), less lethal, and it intentionally lowers the energy to make it solid. Having it fire actual lasers would be lower in energy cost, so firing it would hopefully waste less than 1% per shot.
---[] It is not surprising that making the projectile colder made the core overheat, if it was siphoning that heat to the Coruscant which caused it to over heat. If the overheating problem is it retaining the heat while projecting the photons, then were does the heat go now that we got the overheating flaw removed? Thermal energy is energy, why aren't we using it? Is this part of the energy inefficiency flaw?
---[] Maybe by getting rid of all the flaws on the core we can have actual power. got to get that core to rank 4

Thoughts?

Okay dudes, that's a lot of replies! I loved reading them. You guys had a lot of good ideas so let's go in order.

an idea i had, need @Dauntless22 to confirm material cost

[][Tinker] Start an equipment. Any ideas?
--[] E=Mc^2 right? if you can make something to convert the fuel your Coruscant to be able harvest from sunlight into some material, then can't you print supplies for you to thinker with? like sure its gonna be slow and give you little, but a passive income of tinkering materials would be nice. (either this counts as system requiring only uncommon or counts as Extreme-Precision needing Exotic)

This is a cool idea but its a tad too far from our core's specialty. Also, I'm fairly sure fabrication tech is somewhat restricted by the Shard Network. Also, we are a Resource Tinker so resource gathering is firmly in our focus and drives conflict for us. Making something like a material printer -if possible- would be both Megaproject needing a specialized Augment and Equipment while being really fucking expensive/needing specialized material. Or it would also be faulty somewhere. So if we manage to douse one conflict point (resources) then another would appear (the resource itself would be extremely taboo(e.g using newborns kind of taboo) or hard to find(a piece of interdimensional tech) otherwise it'd faulty (the fabricator suddenly gaining consciousness.)) I'm not saying its impossible but the price might too costly.

I can't believe you made me read about piss. Nevertheless, it was an interesting article. Also, your explanation on light was awesome so thanks for that.

You made some mistakes here, light does not have a true temperature though the polarization, magnitude, frequency, entanglement, and overall distribution can be controlled.
Light only moves slower when moving through a material such as water, glass, or even a gas.
Lowering either magnitude or frequency of light and thus in a way energy will not make light solid and would if anything bring light farther from being solid without actually changing the speed though you can exchange energy for mass in your calculations by shining light through a substrate where the speed of light is slower than in vacuum.
Your best bet is probably to project a controllable substrate such as a cold plasma for light to be shone through.
It is not weird that something that devotes energy to modifying optical behaviours and properties in addition to producing light would require more energy than plain focused light.
Due to the riskiness and probably unnecessary theft of the centrifuge and the especially low quality technobabble I do not like this plan.

Even your own source matches my words more than it matches yours: Solid light - Wikipedia
"The MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms conducted experiments in the 2010s. Single photons were fired from weak lasers into a dense cloud of rubidium cooled to near absolute zero. The speed of light in the cloud was about 100,000 times slower than in a vacuum. Within the cloud, photons lost energy and gained mass. The conditions allowed photons to attract and bind to other photons, and exit the cloud as molecules. Reportedly, photon pairs were observed in 2013, and triplets in 2018.[4][5]"

I am going to start putting together a plan of my own now.

Your explanation on light was enlightening.

(Do I sound like I'm making a letter?)

so other than me being lazy in doing that actual research (read just looking up on google) and trusting the sources and statements given just to vote for your plan, anything we should build next?

anything we should build next?
Well it would be nice to have a sun focusing dish that for instance could be made of aluminum foil, clear nail polish (to help preserve the shine and mirror finish), and cardboard and sticks (for rigid structure) More light at once for the Coruscant.
Parabolic reflector - Wikipedia
Solar cooker - Wikipedia

We could try making waveguides for our hardlight similar to those used for microwaves in order to carry pulses of hard light to different pieces of equipment and even split our core's production between different tasks and shape portions of said hard light. See:
Waveguide (radio frequency) - Wikipedia
Waveguide - Wikipedia
Ironically even though hardlight is not particularly low frequency as far as I can tell, it's nature and behaviour means that normal fiber optics and the like are out and something akin to microwave waveguides works best.

Basically waveguides would just be a bunch of fancy carefully sized and shaped internally reflective tubes and boxes to help get hard light pulses from our core to various pieces of equipment and let us control what power goes to what piece of equipment.

Since our Coruscant seems to be able to not only produce hard light but drive an invisibility cloak
it is reasonable to conclude that we can build on that with a hard light shield and cloak.
So perhaps we should make a hard light shield.

If we make the waveguides described above, we could try seeing how long we can maintain a pulse of hardlight and try finding ways to maintain it for longer
and hopefully over time build it up which would enable longer lasting hardlight constructs and more powerful hard light pulses.
Such a project would likely involve such things as adding on a cooling system, adding valves on the outputs and adjusting pressure slightly, and similar measures.

If can focus the Coruscant laser mode properly and it is capable of putting out enough concentrated power we can use that for welding and cutting.

We can try finding ways to collect feedback from hardlight in order to operate sensors for things like tapping or normal or mostly normal light.
