I decided to participate on the technology fair, and soon preparations were made. I talked with all professors and they made sure that I wouldn't lose anything important by going there on those days. I will lose my so far perfect attendance, but supposedly I can waive the participation record and get the days back. Probably.

Also, I must remember that next trimester my sister wedding will take place. I still need to rent a suit, but hopefully nothing will go wrong there. It didn't on her graduation ceremony, it won't on her wedding.

Martial

[X]Get fit: You were never truly fit, you want to see how that it feels to have stamina and muscles. Cost: 0; Reward: Chance to improve trait; Required: 60; Time: 1 trimester

Roll: 109, Critical! Bonus: 50, fail

As time passes you cam across a very effective training regime that you took like a fish to the water. From cardio to strength training, you pushed through the pain and the diet and became much better than before.

Reward: Strong trait progress (0/3) -> (2/3);

[X]Practice Taekwondo: Practice Taekwondo and get better at fighting, who knows maybe you will be able to enter competitions?; Cost: 0; Reward: Chance to improve trait; Required: 45/90; Time: 1 trimester

Roll: 63, 1 pass

As more time passes, the more your battle instincts sharpen. You won't be a soldier anytime soon, but you're certain that soon enough you will be able to deal with schoolyard scuffles without getting a black eye.

Reward: Novice Fighter trait progress (1/3) -> (2/3);

Learning
[+]Study: You want to pass this time, and ever since you got the Kaleidoscope knowledge you became much better than before, so just diligently studying will allow you to pass your grades. Cost: 0; Reward: pass tests; Required: 0; Time: ongoing

[X]Extra study: Study more so you can potentially reach higher grades and open up a couple of opportunities. Cost: 0; Reward: higher grades, new opportunities; Required: 40/80; Time: 1 trimester

Roll: 94, two passes

Once more you did it, and you got perfect scores. At this point the professors are thinking that at least a 95% score is expected of you in all subjects, while a perfect score is an almost assured thing. Only lab work could prove problems to your grades, but your experience with the SI pulled through in some cases and allowed you to pick up the slack in some cases.

Reward: perfect grades, Studious trait progress (1/3) -> (2/3);

[X]Write Multi-Dimensional Refraction Phenomenon theories: Keep writing the theories on the Kaleidoscope so you won't lose them and more quickly be able to publish them when the time comes. Cost: 0; Reward: more written about Kaleidoscope; Required: 30/60/90; Time: 1 trimester

Roll: 154 Critical! Bonus: 135 Critical! Bonus: 93, three passes

As usual your speed in writing the Kaleidoscope comes at a fast pace, at least compared with your other assignments. Mostly, because you actually know what you are doing ahead of time.

What's more, is that you managed to finish two advanced topics: the Parallel Existence Synchronization and Self Contained Isolated Space. In other words, you can create a machine that can give you either temporary or partial knowledge on different fields from your parallel selves, just like how Alternate You implanted your affinity towards the Kaleidoscope on your head.

And you can make hammer space, you guess.

Either way you finished the 'low hanging fruits' so to speak, about the technologies that are either vital have or are low hanging fruits that can be replicated and constructed by hand given enough know how. Other topics and advanced topics, and there are a lot of them, will came more slowly as they need higher sophistication in the technologies in order to be applicable. Perhaps in the future, after you're long gone, those topics will be nearly as easy to implement as the one you had mastered.

Basic Hypothesis: 100%
Basic Math: 100%
Basic Equations: 100%
Advanced Math: 100%
Advanced Equations: 100%
Topic - Higher Dimensional Energy Tap: 100%
Topic - Parallel Dimensional Energy Tap: 100%
Topic - Higher Dimensional Spatial Transportation: 100%
Topic - Parallel Dimensional Spatial Transportation: 100%
Miscellaneous Topics: 20%
Advanced Topic - Parallel Existence Synchronization: 100%
Advanced Topic - Self Contained Isolated Space: 100%
Miscellaneous Advanced Topics: 13%

Reward: low hanging fruits and vital topics finished, can be produced with on hand components at relative low cost;

[+]Scientific Initiation (Quantum Physics): Continue doing your SI on quantum physics, get experience with professional research and get paid. Cost: 0; Reward: money, chance to improve trait; Required: 0/40/95; Time: 2 trimesters

Roll: 79, two pass

You keep with the SI, and research progressed at a steady click. At this moment it's mostly testing and failing to achieve any non-trivial results from quantum tunneling, making sure the data gathered is reliable and trying to reach certain conclusions about it, before going back to more testing.

Scientific procedure at it's finest.

Still, it gives you experience on how to conduct research and work with a team, so that's not so bad.

Reward: money, SI continues

MINITURN: Technology fair 1
The South American Technology Fair, a grand name for the new fair that supposedly will be held from now on.

I only went to similar fairs once, but for the most part it was a boring thing. This time isn't much different in the end. I saw a couple of new toys that were going to be produced in the country, from microchips, circuit boards and even a smartphone, but nothing truly ground breaking.

I watched a few speeches on new potential technologies that were being worked on, such as crystal computing. For the most part it was interesting, but again nothing truly ground breaking. What was more interesting was the fact that those new technologies were starting to be produced in my home country more than anything. I heard a professor saying that our country would never produce this kind of advanced components simply because it was much easier to buy them from China those days.

Either way the fair passed in an unremarkable way, until something happened...

[ ]A strange well dressed man started conversation

MINITURN: Technology fair 2
I was looking at some new machines, when I turned my head and I bumped into a young woman.

She was strong, that I could figure out just like that. While I was heavier than her, she barely took a step back when she crashed on me.

The young woman before me had japanese features with blue eyes, had long black hair tied in a ponytail, wearing a miniskirt with long leggings that looked like pants and she was wearing a long sleeved red shirt.

"済みません", she said before she caught herself, "Me desculpa", she said with an accent.

"大丈夫です", I said surprising her, "日本語 が 少し わかります が 英語 の ほう が 喋り易い."

She stared for a moment before nodding with a smile. "That's actually easier for me to be honest. As I said, sorry about that."

"You're welcome", I said with a nod of my own, "my accent is quite terrible but I actually know how to form sentences. My japanese is rusty as hell with a limited vocabulary, and from what I saw your portuguese isn't much better either."

She looked more amused than anything. "Yeah, your pronunciation is quite... unique", she said diplomatically, "but I heard worse, at least it's more understandable than a cockney accent. Anyway, my name is Rin...ne. Yes. My name is Rinne. Rinne Ensaka."

"Oookay?" I said a bit unsure, "my name is Andre Inami, nice to meet you Rinne."

"It's a pleasure to meet with you Andre. Did you liked the fair?"

"Only in the sense that my country is starting to produce this kind of hardware locally, but nothing caught my interest at this moment. What about you Rinne? Did you liked the fair so far?"

"I'm not very interested in machines, but my teacher asked me to come since he wanted to meet with someone here. Only for him to ditch me after arriving saying 'go have fun' and leaving me alone here. I'm not a little girl anymore but I'm not unwanted luggage you can just drop off and forget about it either."

She was clearly annoyed at the memory and I nodded, trying to find a distraction. It was a good thing that I saw a clock and realized it was already lunch time. "Would you care to accompany me for lunch? The nearby restaurant should be open right now."

She looked around, probably trying to see if her teacher was around before shrugging. "Sure, why not? Anything's better than airplane food at this point."

I suppressed a laugh before leading her to the restaurant. At least I have some company while eating.

~~O~~

"Are you really going to eat that black sludge?" Said Rinne in a skeptical tone, "it doesn't look very appetizing."

"I had that same thought when I saw Feijoada for the very first time, before I fell in love with the dish", I said before putting some cassava flour before topping it off with vinaigrette, giving the plate a colorful look. It was also significantly more than Rinne's much more modest salad, rice and chicken on her own plate.

Meh, better than junk food at least.

"So what do you study Rinne?" I said while waiting for my juice to arrive.

"Crystallography", she said before attacking her own food, clearly hungry herself, "among other things, but for the most part that's my specialty."

I tried not to make any sudden movements, but apparently she caught my hesitation. "Something wrong?"

"Nothing much, it's just, you're already graduated, right? Perhaps even finished your masters degree and getting a doctorate?"

"You could say that."

I sighed. "Despite my age, I'm just an undergrad. I'm doing an scientific initiation on Quantum Physics, more accurately about Quantum Tunneling, but I'm just a glorified lab assistant. The grant helps pays the bills I guess."

She looked at me for a few moments, before nodding. "You could say I'm a special case. Still, you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. I heard Quantum Physics is quite hard."

"Heh, no need to be polite. I'm the poster boy of failed potential. Only now I'm picking up the pieces together, and the time I lost won't come back anyway." I let out a sigh. "Sorry, you don't need to hear me bitching about my life. Anyway, who is your teacher? Someone I should know?"

"He's annoyingly more famous than I'd like", she said before bitting hard on her food, "on all the wrong circles at least. I rather not talk about him."

I nodded before finally starting on my food.

~~O~~

"It was nice talking with you Rinne. Are you going to stay for all days of the fair?"

"My teacher will tell me how long I will stay, though since I haven't meet him all day I can't really say how long I will be here."

"Alright then", I said while pulling my phone, "would you mind if you told me your What's Up number? So we can talk?"

"I... don't really use it. Or cellphones, either."

"Oh, alright. It was just a thought I suppose. I guess we will see each other on the fair later if we get the chance then", I said while pulling back my phone. Awkward. "So, do you have anything scheduled for now?"

"Actually, no. I came here as a guest so I'm not subscribed to any seminars."

[ ]Invite Rinne to watch some of them with you.
[ ]Say goodbye and get back to your own thing.

Crystallography is one way to describe multidimensional refractive phenomena eh?

what ever happened to participating in the fair?
