Panzer Vor! (Girls Und Panzer Quest)

Sorry, that was a reference to a different Girls Und Panzer quest.
...Goddamnit, I trawled through that entire quest in 8 hours straight. Got me playing World of Tanks too... Good sodding god, after taking a break from that game, driving any of the more complicated vehicles is complete suicide.

After bumping into the British Tier 10 turreted tank destroyer (again), I also have this to say: Mother of God, load HESH.

Just listen to this to relax

So I did some research and I need to quickly ask exactly how heavy is our tank? Specifically I need to know if we'll have any tanks under 10 tons since then they'll be able to participate in the occasional Tankathalon matches and possible win some extra money for us to use.

We have that taken care of; We have a tankette and an armored car in our lineup.

And I'm awake again, lessee...

Main lineup

Mk. IV Cruiser
TOG 1
Matilda II
Mk. I Valentine
Ram Mk. I
Sentinel AC1

Tankettes (under 10 ton)
Light Tank Mk VI
Marmon-Herrington

This good? I went with the Marmon purely on the basis of 'gives South Africa representation', and we already have the Sentinel for Australia.

Posting the vote-Count again.

Options:
[ ] Go around finding crews first; the more the merrier! Pairing them up with tanks will be difficult without breaking people up, and it'll look kinda bad, but you're sure you can pull it off.
- [ ] Look for club stubs.
- [ ] Raid the Student Council some more.
- [ ] Make a speech during an Assembly.
- [ ] Just drive the tanks around a lot and make as much noise as possible. None can resist the allure!
[ ] Track down the missing tanks first. It'll give a better first impression if you've already got them all, and you'll know how many people you'll need.
[ ] Have Rebecca hunt down the old Tankery club members; both graduated and not. Their input will probably be valuable.
[ ] Negotiate with the Naval Cadets; you can't recruit anyone of them because haha, Naval Cadets having free time, but they probably have a much better idea of where everything is likely to be. Both for parts and the missing tanks.
[ ] Negotiate with the Automobile clubs; these old tanks are likely going to need some repairs once you've found them...

Alright.

Historical Knights Club
An odd club of the College oriented towards historical study and reenactment of Sir Arthur's Round Table. Proper members of the club frequently style themselves after their favorite knights and historical figures from Arthur's stories and even adopt their titles in common speech. Regardless of their eccentricities, a surprisingly large number of them are willing to volunteer for Tankery as a modern extension of their knight's actions, and due to downturns in their club's funding and activity.

Lance Team
Tank Preference: Cruiser Tanks

Commander: Isabella"Sir Gallahad" Radcliffe
The Commander of Lance Team and one of the senior members of the History Club, Gallahad is a stern and cool leader in all particulars. Yet while able in clerical administration and leading her club's activities, she was always more interested in Gallahad's combat feats in searching for the Holy Grail, and sees tankery as a way to experience similar situations herself. Mindset in history aside, she has very keen eyes for observation and spotting details, but is less able in thinking beyond duels. Which is what Lucan is for.

Skill: Sniper's Eye
Flaw: Duelist (Tends to get single-minded on individual tank battles unless Lucan is on the crew)

Gunner: Elaine "Lady Elaine" Kent
Loader: Ramilie "Sir Tristian" Kent
The Kent siblings are the more outspoken members of Lance team and least attuned to their given titles and characters, tagging along with Gallahad into the Tankery team mostly out of friendship and boredom at the History Club's lack of "real" activities in their opinion. Tendency towards childish pranks towards eachother aside, they have shown surprising aptitude at loading big guns effectively. Using smaller guns accurately, less so.

Skill: Big Gun Tag-Team (Better at using big cannons than smaller ones)

Radio Officer: Tatiana "Sir Lucan" Thomas
Arguably the smartest one in Lance Team, Lucan is one of the more hard-line historical scholics of the club and takes her role as the club's purser seriously. With recent downturns in club activity, she is intent on making every pound sterling count, which includes tagging along Galahad's mad team-up with the tankery team to make sure every shot counts and they avoid unnecessary (and expensive) risks.

In event of 4-person tank selection, Lucan is the one to dismiss herself from the active crew and focus on support roles and research for the team.

Driver: Emily "Sir Lancelot" Roland
The youngest and most timid of the crew, looks up to Gallahad as a role model. Is easily startled and apologetic about anything. Nothing comes to her naturally, but will comply with Gallahad's orders to learn something to the letter. Surprisingly able at driving a tank decently, after hard instruction and practice.

Striker Team
Preference: Sherman Lend-Lease Tanks, Sherman Firefly

An assorted collection of students from across campus who heard the call to tankery and didn't have anything better to do. Oddly, they are extremely unremarkable and hard to remember by just about anyone. Not helped (or perhaps because of) their tendency to wear goggles, filter masks (they dislike the bad ventilation), and helmets during Tankery hours and go by callsigns instead of names in wanting to keep Tankery and their personal lives separate.

For lack of a better term, they are a crew of generics. So generic, that everyone thinks they are unremarkable and generic at first glace. Even if they are driving a tank. Its nigh-uncanny. Still, they do bring plenty of safety equipment on their own money. Filter masks anyone?

Team Ability: Generic- Pooling their collective unremarkableness, Striker team draws less aggro than usual.

Commander: "Foxtrot-actual"
Gunner: "Echo"
Loader: "Golf"
Radio Op: "Sierra"
Driver: "Tango"

Perfect then we'll be able to get those crews some proper combat experience.

I've noticed that the Mk VIC was equipped with a 15mm machine gun. For those of you who don't know why I found that interesting, I'll explain. Traditionally, anything smaller than 15mm is classified a machine gun while anything larger than 15mm is a cannon. What that means is that 15mm can be either one.

What does this mean for us? I have no idea. I just found this particular histo-fact interesting.

Well at the very least we should remember to use our machine guns to check our aims and lead our targets.

So… I was reading up on inter-war tanks and found an interesting variant of the Medium Mk II.
  • Mark D: The Vickers Mk. D was a one-off design built for the Irish Free State and delivered in 1929. It had a more powerful, water cooled, rear mounted, 6-cylinder Sunbeam Amazon petrol engine, developing 170 bhp at 2100 rpm. A 6 pdr gun was fitted and as many as four Vickers .303 machine guns. The tank was scrapped in 1940.
There's probably an Irish school or school-ship somewhere thats rocking half a dozen of these things.

Haven't fully fleshed out the idea for it, but we need a team of Canadian Exchange Students from the Ice Hockey team who "body-check" other tanks by ramming them in their Ram team (that or inevitably their Grizzly I cruiser if they get upgraded to that).

As hilarious as that sounds, the 6-pdr on the Ram will be one of our best anti-tank guns for the early game. We'll need it to preserve it in our matches instead of having it ram things.

True true, but just because we're a good commander doesn't mean our teams necessarily have to be good 100% of the time. Besides, I doubt they'd just be ramming other tanks in every battle, just when it comes down close encounters in urban environments or in forests or whatnot they might be more inclined to surprise enemies with a ram followed by a close range shot, that or maybe they try to do that when fighting more heavily-armored tanks.

Additionally, regardless of whether the team rams other tanks or not, the team members should be characterized as incredibly polite, friendly and just generally Canadian (even their token Quebecois crewmember!) outside of tankery, except for when in matches, in which the gloves come off and they are incredibly competitive and aggressive.
