Operation Spyglass (IWIW: Spy x Family)

Heads-up, Code:White is now on Crunchyroll (maybe also other streaming?).
- Didn't really see the point of the "we're taking Strix away from you" plot - it's obviously not going to happen in an at best canon-adjacent movie, so the risk isn't there and the prospect of getting a Stella should have been motivation enough to get things rolling. It's barely even mattering in the movie and the few times it does could have likely been substituted for the already existing threat of the family breaking apart once the mission is over in one way or another.
- Yor's fight was neat, but the character should have been introduced earlier. They pretty much just dropped him in as the "we need someone for Yor to fight"-guy. Also aside from a full-on Cyborg (or even Android?) feeling a bit out of place for the setting - given how comically strong Yor is, I don't think a bit of metal would really prevent her from doing serious damage. If you're putting a tank against Yor, you'd probably have more chances if it'd be an agility- rather than a defense-based one. :p
- Kinda miffed we were denied the Anya version of the dessert. The kitchen exploding was probably a quicker way to wrap things up, but let's face it, given how complicated it looked, there was no way Anya could have actually pulled it off. Especially if you'd play it further like if she was missing some ingredients for one reason or another and she'd start to substitute them.
Overall still liked it though. A lot of "best-of" moments, but with a fresh enough coat of paint that they don't just feel copy-pasted, and aside from the one thing mentioned in the nitpicks, continues the tradition of anime-only material that fits right in, unlike oh-so many anime tie-in movies.

Also some damn good Anya faces.

Don't recall seeing him, but I'm pretty sure Jeeves was namedropped before. Maybe on the phone?

For recent chapter, I honestly kept thinking it'd turn out to be just fantasy play by the boys in one of their backyards or something. Sure a step up from their last outing.
yes, he has. I know he has because a liveblogger I follow has a crack theory that he's Damian's real dad

Great chapter, always good to see Franky being a great dude.
But man, I should stop looking at comments. Feels like the lengthy Martha/Henry flashback right after Anya told Damien broke some people. While people forgetting/ignoring that this was always Slice of Life at heart had always been a thing, it feels like it's now 90% "Where's ma plot?" "Gimme more of [insert ship here] already!". As if we'd get more than some bits and pieces every now and then until the endgame and I for one would like that to be still far off.

MangaPlus commentators seem to have a very short memory. :V

Personally didn't care for it that much. Toilet humor rarely lands for me and this was no exception. And Yor seemed strangely reluctant to kill for most of it which couldn't even be a rating thing, not with the villain ordering his men to vivisect a kid.

I especially enjoyed that he and Frankie escaped in a Frankie balloon

... That was wildly uncomfortable for what was just dinner. And yet I believe Donovan when he says it was worthwhile. Though I can't put my finger on why.

One of the comments on Viz noted Desmond Sr has cranial surgery scars and wondered if, perhaps, he has given himself mind-reading abilities through Project Apple. Which is... an idea, certainly (I imagine it's what he's going for eventually) but I think he had those back when he met Loid too. *checks* Yup.

the symbolism of Demetrius taking after his father and Damian taking after his mother with just EYE SHAPES was well done

I hadn't really been a subscriber of Donavan being a mind reader (he'd have too much of an up against Loid, and also because I'd like Anya remaining "unique") - but that sudden eye squint and the "worthwhile" comment after the entirely silent meal from someone who hasn't exactly been shown himself to be happy just being around his loved ones, I'm... not sure I'd rule it out entirely anymore...

That and the seating positions - while seeming to have as much space between another in general - Damian sits closer to his mom, Demetrious closer to his dad.

Jesus Christ how horrifyingly tense and uncomfortable that diner was! Props to Endo for manage to convey so much with a chapter devoid of dialogue for the most part, just with the imagery and Melinda and Damian's utter discomfort while Demetrius acts like an automaton and Donovan observes everyone with the tiniest eye movement like a fucking cryptid.
I admit that his weird satisfaction at the end of the diner started to make me believe in the theory that he has mind-reading power.

Okay I wasn't the only one who noticed the surgical scar either
I'll note that we've actually seen it before (went back to the scene where Donovan meets Loid in chapter 37-38 to check)

Re: Donovan mind reader: I don't buy it. If Donovan does have mind-reading ability, then from the chapter 37-38 conversation he must know Loid is a spy. Which he would have undoubtedly reacted to in some way by now, whether that be forcibly removing Anya from school or getting closer to him in order to learn more by reading his thoughts. At the very least he doesn't have such abilities *yet*.

I disagree. If you are in position of power and have a superpower than no one knows and give you the upper-hand on everything, your priority is to keep your power hidden, except if your life is in immediate danger.
Continue to act normal is the crux to protect yourself. Acting suddenly different will bring suspicion, specially when you have spies in the game.
Loid is not dangerous at all for him for now, no reasons to do something about it.

But yeah, this dinner was... Displeasant.

there was so much slice of life goodness in this chapter that the reveal of Melinda being a very bad fortune teller on the side gave me whiplash

Anya, you really need to work on your abandonment issues.
And Loid, you really need to learn to not constantly think of work, you're setting a bad example for your daughter!

Poor Anya still believes Loid will abandon her if she doesn't ensure she succeeds.

I really did like the slice of life showing how much Anya has grown and developed friendships over her time at Eden. Other point of observation I can't tell if there's something more to Jeeves but his motivation of wanting to see the kids safe from troubles and it's similarity to Loid's similar thoughts makes me wonder if he's clocked that he isn't Anya's biological father?

For a moment there I was certain the clairvoyant was going to be Anya's bio mother and was freaking out

It's nice to see slice-of-life stuff like this.

and it's similarity to Loid's similar thoughts makes me wonder if he's clocked that he isn't Anya's biological father?

... that's a leap and a half? >.> Loid wasn't the only parent he was talking to. Butler just cares about the kid.

Kids playing around, parents meeting up, Loid musing about the important things, plan c in motion - great chapter all in all.
