"We're going East." You decide.
Eli grinned, looping her arm over your shoulders. "A man after my own heart," she cheers, before pausing as a strange look appears on her face. "Figuratively speaking." She tugs at you, turning the both of you around until you face the direction.
"Maybe it'll come to literally," you suggest drily.
"Heh," Eli snorts. "That would be fun."
You hum in agreement, walking into the thick bushes. "So, where are you from?"
Eli pauses, before turning at you mid-step. Her left brow cocked in confusion. "Eh?"
You shrug lightly, stepping over a fallen tree. "You know, before you got into Beacon? You don't look like someone from Vale."
"Eh…" She trails off, tilting her head left and right, coincidentally keeping the low branches from swatting her face. "You wouldn't even know where it is, but I lived outside the Kingdoms. Some boring village guarded by a pair of Hunters. How about you?"
You hum, before shrugging as you carefully step away from a falling branch. "I used to live in Vale, though I'm not sure if I was born there. Orphan, but I got adopted by a family soon thereafter. They're dead, now."
Because you killed them.
"Oh." She winces, somewhat sympathetically. "That sucks." There's a pause, before she opens her mouth, "I was an orphan as well."
You blink, nearly tripping on a poking root. "Huh. Must be tough."
She shrugs lightly, grinning. "S'not bad. Village was small, and in the middle of Grimm territory, so we had to take care of each other. Until the White Fang came by and recruited me, that is." She adds after a short pause, almost as an afterthought.
This time, you actually stumble on a piece of rock. Only Eli's arm on your shoulders keep you from actually falling. You turn to the Faunus, who was apparently a member of a worldwide terrorist group, with a bit of surprise on your face. "What?"
"Hm?" She glanced at you, looking like she didn't confess being a terrorist. Not that you care, but even
you know that discretion is needed at times. "Oh." Realization dawns on her face, before she brushes it with a shrug. "Well, it's not bad. The Mayor was apparently a supporter of them, unsurprising, considering he's a Faunus, he saw me killed a Beowulf under one of the Hunters' watch. Said the working for the White Fang would be great, I agreed, and then a few days later a man whisked me away from my Village." Her eyes suddenly narrow and she gives you a dangerous look. "You're not going to treat me differently because of it, right? 'Cause that would be a shitty thing to do."
You shake your head. "No. Nothing like that. Just…" you thin your lips into a flat line. "I would think that's the kind of thing you don't want people to know about. Especially those who you just met."
She shrugs easily. "Meh. It's not like it's a secret or anything, and besides, I quit. Got a permission from my Handler, and all that jazz." She waves her hand in a lackadaisical manner.
You sigh, rubbing your face. "That's not—"
Eli again freezes in mid-step. In response, you take
Carnwennan up to your chest. Her eyes are wide, nose twitching as she sniffs her surroundings. A moment later, her head shifts into that of a wolf, and she takes another sniff.
"Shit." She remarks, her voice throaty and guttural. Unnatural, is the word you would use. Quickly, she reverts back to normal, and her hand slips from your shoulders. Her body is tense, and her eyes narrow. "We're not facing small fries." She says seriously, before tilting her head up to the tree branches. "Let's get up here."
You nod silently, following her after she jumps onto one of the tree branches. "What is it?" You ask from her side.
"I dunno." Comes her reply. A dangerous smile takes its edge on her lips as she turns to you. "Dangerous."
Belatedly, you realize you've also adopted the same dangerous smile. It's a cold, unfeeling smile not used in a 'friendly' battle, but one used when facing something truly strong. One you usually use when going in for the kill. One you use when you're not going to afford holding back.
"Let's investigate."
Eli's smile widens. "Exactly what I thought." She hops to another branch. "Follow me."
You do.

Your silent tree hopping comes to an end as you reach your destination: a cave. Even as you crouch there, you don't need to be a geologist to know that the cave is
large. Its entrance craggy and wide like the maws of some infernal monsters. Loud breathings, either by the air or the creature inside, blow out as if to send a warning to whoever unlucky enough to get this close.
For a moment, you are reminded of that movie Neo watched. A group of curious teenagers in a forest, stumbling into a cave, they decide to take shelter because why the hell not? Only to realize too late that they just entered a nest of nocturnal man-eating beasts.
The only difference is, unlike those teenagers, you and Eli are trained to kill these sorts of beasts—
and more—and you certainly have the ability to back it up.
You share a look with Eli, before nodding. Nimbly, the both you hop silently onto the ground. Silently,
carefully, you make your way into the cave's maw. The air gets hotter and hotter with every step you take, and you could smell something rotten coming from inside. By the grimace on Eli's face, you guess she's taking it worse than you.
Eli takes the lead into the cavern's entrance. The temperature of the cave rises to a nearly unbearable degree as you sneak deeper, soaking your outfit as sweat pours out. The
sulphuric rotten smell becomes stronger, and you can feel your lungs burn with each breath you take. You're not just walking into a furnace, you're diving into a volcano, you belatedly realize.
Looking up to your partner, you note that she's taking a worse toll than you. You imagine having a canine's sense of smell wouldn't do her any good in this situation. Despite so, her steps never falter. In a way, you could take respect in that.
After what feels like hours—and it may have been so, for all you know—you finally reach to a hollowed cavern. Columns of stalactites on the ceilings, and rows of stalagmites jutting off the ground. There's a red tinge on the ground under you, telling just how
hot it is in here. But your eyes immediately focus on the Grimm in the middle of the cavern.
The word
large registers immediately in your mind, and doing a quick calculation in your head, you're not going to be surprised if your size is the same of its paw, height-wise. The next you immediately notice is its odd morphology.
Head of a lion on the fore, face covered in white material with its six eyes closed, and the only thing telling you that it's indeed a lion is the thick jet black hairs circling around it. On the hinder, the head of a snake that would dwarf a King Tajitu, lay coiled around its leg—red paint-like markings on its forehead, forming an abstract image that make your eyes slide away despite your best effort. There are fins on its sides, casting a draconic look.
Finally, on its side, there's the head of a…
goat. Deformed, and ugly. Its horns cracked and damaged, and the mask over its head seems to be
bulging. One eye seems to be… gone, leaving a dark abyss of nothingness, while the other looks damaged beyond use.
Your smile stretches as you brandish Carnwennan. Despite knowing the potential danger, your heart drums to a beat of excitement, and thunder fills your veins.
Death Perception activates, and you finally confirm that Grimm creatures are killable just as everything you've seen. Lines over the body, Lines on the snake and lion heads, more Lines on the goat. Even the legs, and the parts the white bone-like materials protecting aren't safe.
Yet, despite the urge to just get close and carve as many pieces as you could, you hold that desire down. The creature is stronger than you, and spars with Neo and Roman have taught you that charging an enemy like that without a plan is a bad idea. It helps that the creature seems to be
unconscious, utterly ignorant of your presence, and looks to be severely wounded—cuts and damages seem to cover its body.
You share a look with Eli. Her eyes are wide. Small part fear, and larger part eagerness. You make some gesture to her, and she seems to understand as the both of you retreat back from the cavern.
"What's the plan?" Eli whispers once you're sure that the both of you are safe. Briefly, you take note that her sweaty hands are shaking. Either from fear or excitement, you're unsure.

Note for those pussies: retreat is a viable option. However, because of your and Eli's status as Blood Knights, it will need a roll wherefore it will be given a huge malus. And there's a possibility that Eli wouldn't retreat even if you would. If you want to retreat anyhow, it's advisable to put a backup plan in case retreating fails.
