Of Winding Ways and Cunning Devices

Frankly I don't think we could have entirely avoided these sorts of issues regardless of where we are. At least here we can just sail away if necessary.

Oh and incidentally you may have noticed that Eriol calls Fálki old even though he is older in years, that is because the Numanoreans have two words for old: a more neutral one that simply means 'this has existed for a long time' which is mostly used for objects and one which would more closely translated as 'aged' (though it would have felt odd to use in context without explanation) which has an obvious negative connotation since it means 'worn/close to breaking/close to death.' Immortal is the reverse of the latter so it translates literally as 'imperishable, undying', which is how they refer to both elves and the Ainur.

We still have our boat, and if worst comes to worst we can always sail west into the Baltic.

Displacement: 200 Tons
Length: 28 Meters/92 Ft.
Cargo Capacity: 60 Tones
Ok looks like we're not going to be able to move our ship through the proto-Rus, unless we somehow learn some pretty powerful magic.

Maybe as a wizard Eriol knows some ways to boost morale?
He does in the whole Melkorite singing magic but that's the thing, he can only channel negative emotions at least for now.

Or you know we can sing but with no magic and they can be regular numenorean songs. Unless Eriol can't sing unless it's magic which would be funny.

He can sing, though it should be noted that the songs of the Discord are not very melodic. They are the clang of steel against steel, the sound of fire racing though dry wood, of ice crushing stone, the screams of the dying and the call of brazen trumpets.

That sounds like some of the modern proponents of atonal classical music would love him.

That's quite metal or the classic one with lots of drums and metal sounds associated with military music.

Partytime!
I hope the Faithful among our crew have used our frequent journeys to the Havens to learn some elvish songs.

Because you do not have the voice. There is nothing inherently magical about elven song, but Eriol would want to do them justice to a level that is really not possible for him if he were to sing them. That pride is not just for the mechanical bonus.

Sounds like a fun side quest for us to pursue in Eriol's free time. Can't be a Middle Earth-born protag without a good singing voice. That's just embarassing.

True, improving our musical ability does seem like a nice side project given all of our elven instruments and the fact that our magic is based on music.

Very unanimous it's seen.

Yeah I was pretty sure it would go this way, given how bad your morale is I would not really expect you to chance a roll even though DC 45 is pretty easy all other things being equal.

Another thing I've just thought of though is, you guys might have books on you, I mean you do have decent learning and you choose a learning-centric profession. There really should be books on that ship, but I am not sure what to give you. I mean on the one hand histories of Arda would be cool and fitting, but they would hardly be of any great help. Maybe some books on navigation and astronomy would not go amiss as well as some on healing and herbalism.
