Of Reconstruction and Rosaries

Instead of waiting to die like dogs at the hands of a executioner, I'd rather give our soldiers a chance to fight back even if they're severely disadvantaged.

That, and the ensuing chaos is sure to send a strong message that His Imperial Majesty's supporters will fight on no matter what.
Common infantry tend to escape outright executions. The officers are dead though.

I'm loving the amount of discussion here. People seem to appreciate a 12 year old war criminal who's been fighting since she was six. My sources of inspiration include pumpkin sissors, full metal panic , Suikoden and Tanya the evil.

Rescuing soldier's could also end up with a fair bit of them dead if the enemy goes lethal. A smaller group would be easier to protect and extract

I rolled and there needs to be a complication. I have two ideas for a great complication, but I can't decide between them. I thought about it, and realized that this is exactly why I incorporate voting. So, I'm letting you'all choose the complication
Complication 1
When you go to rescue the officers, they turn on you.
Complication 2
When you go to rescue the officers, one of them turns out to be the child psychologist who took care of you during your training. He refuses to leave, and says that he's a monster for his role in creating you.
Complication 3
When you go to rescue the officers, one of them is the head of the program that created you. As soon as he sees you, he grins a nasty grin and activates a subliminal program.

[X]Complication 2

It's emotionally devastating and better from a story perspective, much more than traitorous riff raff or mind-control.

Redemption for what you've turned me into!? You taught me to become the Fairy of War! It's by your help that I became the BUtcher of Barbarossa!
EXACTLY! I've stained you until you can't even recognize how far you've fallen!
...The back and forth present here is so very very fun.

In that small, forgotten space between the walls, you decide that the first person to rescue should be lt corporal Greta, your right hand woman. Having her free would make the whole jail break more simple. To do that, however, you would first have to find her. You don't really have any maps of the prison... and you strongly suspect that the space between the walls that you are currently picking through wires behind isn't even on the maps.

Methods to locate her would require sending out a mana pulse, and waiting for her to return it: A process that would alert every guard in the building with any trace of magic. Keeping in mind that the alarm has already taken care of alerting them for you, someone intelligent could still triangulate your position from that.

So, it's either wandering around breaking into cells at random and hoping for luck... or grabbing one of the defending guards and interrogating them.

You don't trust luck. You don't have time to interrogate. You'll have to improvise. You hate improvising.

You hear guards outside your hiding place. They're trying to be quiet, but to your ears they're as loud as water buffalo. Four of them. "We're detecting the escapee somewhere in this area" you hear one whisper. Sloppy.

You burst through the wall like a vengeful ghost, grabbing a guard in your magic and grinding his face against the opposite wall, sweep the legs out from under another. One of them fires at you, point blank, and the bullet slams into belly, shattering on your shield. You can feel the dark bruises spreading beneath it. Two more bullets hit the back of your head, sending you sprawling.

Ears ringing, You grab a gun from the ground and fire back. One falls, the other's shield sparks and fails, that one takes cover as you dart behind the man you are still keeping pressed against the wall through your will alone.

"Demon" he whispers. You shoot him, then grab the locator he had been using to track you. This will do.

You dart away, enveloping yourself into the shadows. Your belly hurts, and you're having a hard time moving the muscles in it. You poke at it, and your hand comes free damp. A long thin splinter of a bullet, like a shard of glass, is lodged in the flesh of your belly. You'll live.

The FIRST thing you do, with the tracker, is find out where the locator spell is tagging you. Inconveniently, it seems the tracking bead is in the meat of your thigh, too close to the femoral artery to risk removing with a knife. You burn it out with pure mana. Now you're untraceable.

Lawrence, in fact, is the closer of the two. When you find him, he's being hustled back towards his cell. "Seriously." He asks his four guards "What's going on? I hear an alarm. If there's a fire, shouldn't we be headed to the exersize yard."

"It's just a drill, relax" one of the guards says to him "Everything's fine"

"If it's just a drill, did you really have to interrupt my study time? I earned time in the library through good behavior, you know. I'm hoping to get certified to serve as our lawyer."

"Don't worry about it, Lawrence, everything is going to be alright." The guard says "Someone as friendly and kind as you won't have any trouble. I'm sure those charges they have against you are fa..."

You dive into the hallway, perforating the four guards with quick, staccato, bursts. Lawrence brushes himself off, and grabs a key casually off of one of the dead guards next to him, then unlocks his own cuffs while you reload. "Ma'am" He says, offering you a proper salute. "Pardon my lack of salute sooner."

"Apology accepted corporal." you reply, saluting back "Arm up, we're going to rescue Lt. Corporal Greta."

"Acknowledged" He replies, rapidly stripping one of the dead guards he had been chatting with moments ago. "I'm aware of Lt. Corporal Greta's cell location."

"Lead the way." You reply, stepping up next to him. You grab his thigh as you go, and he whines softly as you burn out his tracking bead, whispers a soft 'ow', then nods.

The two of you operate double time through the corridors, getting into three fast firefights, each of which end before the enemy can respond, and find Greta with no difficulties. She's sitting in her cell, whistling softly to herself. As she sees you approach she stands up and salutes "Ma'am" She says "lt. Corporal Greta reporting for duty."

You salute back, and unlock the door. She's out in a flash, and catches the spare rifle you throw in her direction. It takes but a second's work to burn her locator as well.

The three of you begin to make your way to the officer's quarters. As you do so, a warm feeling fills your chest. The feeling of

[]Freedom
[]Victory

Officer part will take a bit to right, so take this first half here.

You'll be given some chances to back out of such an option, but that seems to be the direction the players prefer... for now. It's been 4 and a half months since the end of the war, and the UWA is starting to realize it's bitten off more than it can chew. They have no real, definite plan for the Empire, other than not permitting Barbarossa to take the throne once more, and wanting some form of reperations. It doesn't help that they're a bunch of independent countries that agreed to work together solely to take you down, and now they all have different opinions of where they want things to go.

We could easily use this in order to get freedom for us and the Companion instead becoming another drone for the stupid ass Barbarossa.

Now, now. Barbarossa's not exactly a stupid ass. No one wanted this war to start in the first place, it just was too much trouble not to have a war. The conflict started when separatist rebels killed a duke in one of the Empire's vassal countries, and the Empire sent in troops to maintain order, but it turned out that the rebels were funded by a member of the Republican Alliance, so the Empire invaded, and then various defense pacts came into play...

The three Empires all quickly decided to work together, but unfortunately that meant that the lesser countries mostly joined the Republican Alliance, which started calling itself the United World Alliance.

Barbarossa's cousin in Africa on the glass throne fell first, to a peasant rebellion. They instilled communism and declared neutrality. Barbarossa tried to take back the Iberian Peninsula from the communists and rescue her, but that just wasted army effort, and he was forced to burn the Vatican when the pope declared against Empires.

The Indonesian Empire fell second, being economically fairly weak once the UWA began unrestricted submarine warfare against them. They had the better surface navy, but they were not prepared for the effects that submarines had on shipping. It basically shattered their economy. Eventually they surrendered and accepted sanctions as well as losing a great deal of their territory.

The UWA then turned it's focus on the Holy Teutonic Empire, and at that point the united UWA was much larger than the Teutonic Empire. They did some intelligence tricks, got him expecting an attack from the north, but the enemy came up from the south through the alps instead. They tried something very like operation market garden, and it worked.

Both sides were full of brilliant tacticians and strategists. The three Empires were the three largest countries in the world. Now, only the Southern Empire is largely intact, and it's now calling itself the United Worker's Confederation.

The Holy Teutonic Empire stretches from part-way through what is modern day Spain all the way to the Urals, and it stretches from just south of modern day Finland to about half way down Italy. Much of Greece is under their rule, but not all of Greece because the Grecian city states are fiercely independent, as are the southern Italian and Sicilian city states. Most of those city states are vassal nations, however.

Your administrative capitol was in what is modern day Switzerland, protected by the alps, and each emperor chose a city to be the 'ceremonial capitol' for their reign. Each emperor's birthday is still celebrated, even now, in their former capitol cities.

Doctrine says that the Emperor is descended from Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, and Czernobog the god of winter. The moon is his uncle.

Now, I'm not saying Barbarossa needs to be your god and ruler. You can certainly strive for independence! But he's not The Emperor from 40k, and he's not Hitler. He's more like the King of England, or the Emperor of Japan.

For the record, your Emperor is part-African, and looks kinda like a cross between Bob Ross and Marcus Aurelius with dark skin. He wears a lot of purple and gold.

There's a reason that the last Pharaoh, on the glass throne, who rules most of Africa and the Middle East is refereed to as his cousin. Though 'Egypt' is now a communist country.
