Yup, I want to use all the toys after all and the justification for this battle is that Bacta supplies are running low and the Republic needs to secure Manaan in order to use Kolta to supplement their dwindling supply.
They don't have to be old, deaths, incidentally, but I suppose such a place will be fairly more spiritually-aligned.

Wookiepedia says Manaan was aligned with the Republic during the CW, are you keeping that here or is it going to be more nebulous?

Well actually while Manaan was officially aligned with the Republic it wasn't considered overly important as Kolto wasn't in that high a demand. In this RP that changed as the Republic's supply the Bacta began to dwindle and they needed to the Kolto to help supplement their supply. As a result (and Palpatine being himself) the Republic dispatched forces to secure Ahto city, which was soon followed by a Separatist force seeking to cut them off from those very same supplies.FTFY.
