Especially since Renji is only injured, not dead and should probably make a full recovery given lots of time.
I think he's already healed physically, or will be soon, it's that his Bankai was destroyed, and destroyed Bankais are permanent unless reforged by the guy who makes zanpakutou.

Edit: The grudge was about the injury to his pride. It was apparently very demoralizing to Renji.

I'd rather stick to the character who's had a prior and ongoing subplot.

Hiyori does have a prior and ongoing subplot!

She tries to take one day off to relax and play some pachinko but all her idiot friends get themselves tricked by some asshole in a rubber suit and lost in Mexico Ghost Hell the minute her back is turned. (One of them is also perma-dead but she doesn't know that yet...)

Children. All of them...

"What's this?" the Sexta says, frowning as he picks up the wide card and reads it. "'Zommari's reiatsu feels like gravity, pulls you in, makes it hard to look elsewhere - hypnotic powers?' What? 'Much faster than his rank would indicate, visual tricks, afterimage-illusions… Weak senses; failed to notice me and Luppi spying on him.' Are these notes on Zommari's powers?"

Not a lot; you only saw him for a short time, and only had the briefest demonstration of his combat style, but any help is good, right? You look expectantly at Grimmjow, and he gives you a suspicious look.
Oh hey, that sensing perk came back to help us out! Nice.
But that sword truly is a snake. The very blow that pushes it back twists its shape, making it curve around Tousen's guard, and the tip of the blade lashes at his exposed back.
Interesting, didn't know his sword could do that. Thought it was just a straight shoot (if at an insane speed).
"If there's one thing I won't do," Gin says with mock solemnity, "it's get between a guy and his sweetheart. If anything I'll bother him when he's around the Quinta. I can't believe I missed the opportunity to pester her—she just hasn't been an Espada long enough for me to get 'round to it, I guess."
Oh man, Gin messing with Cirucci... yeah, that really feels like a missed opportunity lol.
When you do it again, it will not be an ephemeral abomination. You have glimpsed the secret of creating life…

"And you think it a wonder."
Sequel quest with Cirucci/Nemo baby as MC confirmed. That character creation omake is now canon.
You take a deep breath, and when you exhale you exhale shadows that pluck at the seams of the world. You exhale a thought with that breath, a memory, a sight. A pale, petrified face, a barren plain… a bargain refused.

The shadows split the air, dripping onto the roof, and the gate whispers the legend of Luna.
Ooooooh, now that's interesting.

Given the framing, I assume Tousen's plan involves the fact that his bankai counteracts Aizen's shikai, and people like Kenpachi can still beat Tousen's bankai.

Now, does his plan literally involve challenging Kenpachi to a rematch, dragging him into Aizen's throne room and pulling a bait-and-switch under cover of his bankai? Perhaps while eating popcorn? Maybe, maybe not. But it's possible, is what I'm saying.

Ahh, but the reverse (inverse?) is also true: He's seen her at her most embarrassing, too!

With the recent canonization of SatelliteFool's omake, Tousen has watched Nemo geek out over a smoothie, forget how to use boxes, and crush her toes trying to lift a car. Not exactly the most dignified way for a scheming mastermind to act, wouldn't you agree?

(Unless that was her plan the entire time! But no... not even Aizen could be that sneaky... Right?)
I choose to interpret this as evidence that Aizen gets into exactly the same kind of stupid bullshit that we do and just hides it with his illusions.

Tousen is the only one who has realized and had to put up with his stupid nemo-esque nonsense.

That would be glorious but I'm not sure it fits the "irony" theme.

More screen-time for the REAL main character.

The problem is they ALL kinda do. Tatsu's the backup protag since Ichi got benched, and she needs to redeem basically losing that third invasion battle for her side, Rukia has that thing with the bull, but also the incoming sucker-punch of happy healthy Ichigo instead of 'reduced to Kurosaki-kun machine Orihime.' that would fit into her world-view neatly. And the shorty has a grudge the size of Las Noches with the rightful target dead by another's hand.
...Of these though?
I want to see Rukia's perspective, if only because this time around she can't be summed up as 'traditional Shinigami perspective'. She's got skin in this game beyond that.

So, looking back on the Luna vote, I see that it was both a literal and metaphorical salt fest. It seems to have worked out very well though, and I'm glad Walk Away won since the follow-up effects of that was a major part of what made this quest so interesting to me.

Love the title of the latest chapter. It fits very well with how Tousen and Nemo interpret what is presented to them so differently. Was the dance intended to be about Aizen or Nemo? Does it really matter?

Interesting that Tousen picked up on Nemo's future plans to create life, though he misinterpreted a bit. I think, subconsciously, he wanted Nemo to be more like Aizen because then things would be so much simpler. If there was some sort of moral equivalency, then Aizen would be the best route for Tousen since Aizen is so much more capable and wise a god than the foolish moth. But in the end, he had to think about it critically. He had to face the truth and pass judgement.

Well that's more Luppi's fault than AAA's and Mr. Noodly is still alive and kicking.

However that is not a fight Hiyori can win.

Really her best bet is to do as she said she would and skedaddle as soon as she can to go after her mates.

arrgh, I can't choose! so I'm going to default to our foil. because seeing a nemo boss fight from the other end somehow would be hella cool.

And that would suggest Aizen and Nemo secretly playing high-stakes poker for the fate of the universe.

Wait a minute, this isn't the thread for May the Invisible Hand Be With You.

Does anyone outside Las Noches know that Luppi and Cirucci had anything to do with that? I know AA shapeshifted back to Espada form, but I don't know if anyone else actually come up.

I don't think we've had Rukia's PoV before? I also want to see her in MUST PROTECC THE CUTE mode.
That would be glorious but I'm not sure it fits the "irony" theme.
We're talking about Kenpachi here. 'Death by Natural Disaster' seems suitably ironic enough for someone like Aizen.

that chapter was great.
you really bring the best and most interesting parts of Tousen. I think yours is the best, and most thoughtful and deep writing involving him I read in the fandom. you really make him shine and be distinctive fascinating character, beyond the antagonistic role he had in canon, or the side role he is usually relegated to, when written in fics.
