Adhoc vote count started by Sapient_Ham on Mar 10, 2021 at 8:50 AM, finished with 182 posts and 109 votes.

Ingaba Research Agreement bare minimum 10 dice
Research Tree's- Elsecaller, T2E- 10 dice
Elder Mind Tree's- GnichTree- 4 dice
Eldest Tree- Thor's Alumni- 3 dice
Mind Tree'- Pyran, PurposefulZephyr, Faucor, Esprit- 8 dice
Total 25 dice.

We are more than sufficient for the deal to hold, any more and were not benefiting more than the Ingaba. A good rough half can safely switch votes if they wish and need not worry about defaulting on the treaty.

Switching my vote; the current tally among * techs is pretty dumb. I encourage at least a few other Mind Trees to switch, too.

[X][Action] Research the Laser Power (Crystal, Light, Magnetic)*
[X][FOCUS] Upgrade Elder Collector Tree
[X][FOCUS] Upgrade Elder Collector Tree x2
[X][FOCUS] Upgrade Elder Collector Tree x3

[ ][Action] Assist the Ingaba Research Base (General)
-This action works to pay off the Forest's side of the deal with the Ingaba Directorate. In order to not default on the Treaty, at least ten dice must be paid into this action every turn for ten turns.
-Effect: For each die paid into this Action, the Forest will obtain one success to the most voted for Research Action with an asterisk.
8 Voters: 2 Research Trees, 1 Elder Mind Tree, 1 Eldest Tree, 4 Mind Trees
25 Dice

Current leading * tech: Superconductive Root Network (6 voters, 17 dice) (0/100)
Second place * tech: Crystal Formation (5 voters, 12 dice) (41.8/50)
Third place:
Laser Power (3 voters, 8 dice) (28/100)
Plasma Tree (3 voters, 9 dice) (0/360) (why?)

Due to the Worm and our 3 Tranquil Trees, it's currently more effective to directly vote for techs instead of contributing more than the bare minimum needed for the Research Agreement. Worse, these 25 dice are going to the most-voted * tech, Superconductive Root Network. Since we're unlikely to focus enough to finish it anytime soon, this pretty much means the investment will be wasted for several turns.

If Laser Power gets just 4 more votes — less if anyone voting for Superconductors switches — then we can easily finish it in 2 turns. This could be critically important if a hostile force exits the Wormhole.

[ ][Action] Research the Laser Power (Crystal, Light, Magnetic)*
-Derived from a direct energy weapon provided by the Ingaba Directorate, the Laser shoots beams of aligned, amplified, and focused Light, containing immense amounts of energy.
-Effect: Unlocks the Beam Offensive Action, which directly damages targets that it hits. When the Forest Focus is applied to this action, it obtains the automatic successes provided by Collector Trees.
-Requires 100 successes to research. 28/100

At Mag 4 with 10 Elder and 4 base Collectors, each Focus will be worth 28 to 36 successes, depending on sun proximity. With Worm lvl 3, each is worth ~45.

Multiply by 4 Focuses, and we can have about 180 successes of high-energy DOOM ready to welcome anyone who dares look at us funny. That's the lower bound, too; if the Collector-Lasers benefit from high solar activity, then we're looking 330+. For reference, the stray shots that hit us in Turn 5 were worth 9. The laser memes are real.

I'd switch myself but that would leave Crystal Formation on the razor's edge of being likely to complete, which would risk the growth plan - it only has 8 dice without me, and while I am an elder mind tree, I'm not enough on my own to put laser power into the lead.

As ham notes, the ingaba are themselves getting worried about possible hostile forces coming through that wormhole in the future. Getting lasers now is a very prudent idea.

Switching from reflecting tree because I just want to finally finish one of the big research techs and continue to complete unfinished big projects. Rather ridiculous we don't have the laser's yet, the more we put them off the more vulnerable we ultimately are when an enemy shows up catching us with our pants down.

Edit- back to reflecting for me with enough dudes on laser's

Too many people are doing the research agreement, so I might as well switch.

Well, looks like no one wants to work on hoop trees to help heart trees have things to do after the worm is over, and people seem to want to overfocus on forest growth. Might as well give in and join the plan fully.

Definitely on the concerned side of things w.r.t The Worm.
I'm not that concerned.
For breaching one hundred initial voters, a Special Project, decided at random, will be made available on turn one! Ordinarily the result of successfully navigating specific possible Events, these Special Projects will, upon the completion of all steps, result in the growth of a Unique Tree! Unique Trees are either very powerful, or alter the very framework of the game! Be careful, for they are generally very fragile, and upon destruction are not as easily regrown as the rest of the Forest!
This is how we got the Worm. It's eldritch, sure, and will probably make us spooky and unsettling to other species when we finish it... but it's fundamentally a reward and not an enemy.

[X][Tree] Heart Tree

Pretty sure I haven't voted here before. Neat!

[X][Action] Sacrifice to the Worm (???)

Let's get a proper start by joining a tree cult!

3225. Trees worshiping Worms. It's only natural!

o_O
"or alter the very framework of the game!"
Worm Ultimate effect: You are now a Devourer Swarm, you grow by eating inhabited planets. Everyone is (justifiably) trying to kill you.

Rewards are not inherently good. Not in a game based on Stellaris.

Laser Power only needs 1 more vote to ensure it receives the successes from the Ingaba Research Agreement.

A Mind Tree would obviously be preferred, but even a vote from a random Root or Heart Tree works. Soon, the glory of crystal pinecone laser arrays will be upon us. The galaxy shall bear witness to our ascension, and tremble before our infinite cosmic might. Pew pew pew

Would someone care to do an effort post of our current chances of success on anything.

There's a couple scattered about, but my checking has crystal formation at comfortable safety unless I switch at which point it's more likely to complete than not but could fail to some bad luck,

Worm is definitely completing,

Magnitude 4 has so many personal actions allotted to it that we could (and should) change our focus actions to Upgrade Elder Collector Trees to reap the higher efficiency there, but we're nearing vote call, few of the people who used my original focus action set based on my plan are switching over, and new voters are bandwagoning the original set despite me asking people to change over so I'm pretty sure that's not happening.

We're looking at one elder tree upgrade this turn,

...and laser power, if it gets just one more vote even from a non-mind tree, is starting to approach the possibility of finishing this turn if it gets lucky, though admittedly I'm more eyeballing that one.

Basically, at this point we've got decent odds of getting everything we want, plus talking to the Ingaba about some stuff.

Now, everyone needs to vote to upgrade our Soothing Tree to an Elder Soothing Tree so that I can have more communication dice. That's Priority 1.

[X][Action] Sacrifice to the Worm (???)

Whew! Almost forgot to praise the Worm.
I know it might be outside your specialty, but if you could instead vote for [X][Action] Research the Laser Power (Crystal, Light, Magnetic)* , you'd tip the scales so the 50-ish ingaba research go towards that and help get our weapons online in case the folks that have the ingaba worried come knocking.

Hopefully a mind tree comes by and lets you switch back, but we're very close to the vote being called, so if you could help us out here that'd be mighty appreciated. Don't worry - we have enough votes to upgrade the worm to level 3 this turn already, they'll understand.
